Fledglings are Flying into April, there's no fooling us.......

Welcome fledglings old and new, to April's Flylady thread!

For any newbies who have stumbled across us, we are following Flylady’s housework system which is based around routines and short bursts of activity to try to keep our houses and lives in order. (Sometimes we follow it more loosely than others). Feel free to join us, the more the merrier! We post our ‘ta da’ lists for motivation (no matter how long or short), and enjoy some random chatter along the way.

The link to Flylady’s ‘flying lessons’ is here Flying Lessons. Have a read, and if you have any questions, just ask. You can sign up for emails but be warned there are lots so most of us rapidly unsubscribed.

I’ll be posting links daily to keep us all on track. Jump in wherever you are, remember you are never behind.

This is a long running thread and we’ve developed some lingo along the way:
LOL = load of laundry
S&S = swish and swipe, a quick daily clean of the toilet and sink
PO3 = power of 3. When motivation is on the low side or you’re overwhelmed just pick 3 things at a time and do them
DNLMS = did not lose my shit
Ned = our mythical mate who helps with the laundry (hasn’t paid a visit to me for a while)
Pointy stick —-> = for when a fledgling needs a motivational prod (we can be gentle if required)
The naughty corner = a relaxing haven where we hang out when motivation is low, we are on strike, or we need a rest and some TLC

KCC - we don't do so many of these now, but these are little stories, photos, memes, off-topic questions, just to keep us all distracted from the general tedium of lockdown life. Feel free to chip in.

Thanks to Up for guiding us gently through March Flowers.

And off we go into April.

Oh you've given me ideas for recovery ice 😁 The surgeon had to press down hard alright to stop the bleeding. It's vascular central in the lip area.

halfhope · 16/04/2021 13:04

It's not too bad dancing Hope you are doing okay too 😁. I'm watching Line of Duty as I've taken the day off.

Redsquirrel5 · 16/04/2021 13:51

You can have a comic too Halfhope🤣

Ice ouch poor DD. Glad no I’ll effects other than fat lip.

I’ve turned the page and forgotten most of it sorry. Memory struggle worries me sometimes.

Zoo teens! 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ Have some me time!

So we had a lovely time at gardener centre come garden then at 8 pm DH went to pick up take away( we are too far out for delivery) and really enjoyed a curry. Nepalese so if you have those dishes something different. Shared two + a starter each. DH will finish it today as good portions and 20% off £ too.

Finished the bathroom and now gardening. Well I am boiling eggs. We have loads 33 eggs from past week + a bit. That is using some too. I will have to make cake. I didn’t end up making a b’day cake so might do one.

Better crack on or he will be looking for me

Dancingtomusic · 16/04/2021 17:13

Red- 33 eggs!

ice- you must hv been so worried.

half- good you hv taken day off. I really feel like watching line of duty...never seen it. Is it scary?

My CV has gone abit wrong. Dh told me...i need to add all dates for the jobs i did as i didnt think it wud be relevent.
I want to do hide under the covers and cry abit. I will pick myself up in abit.

SingToTheSky · 16/04/2021 17:22

Dancing I’d say LOD is not for the faint hearted, there’s some nasty themes in there.

I’m sorry the CV hasn’t gone right. Anything we can help with? Is it still possible to apply?

I’m just taking a break from playing gruffalo to Cagletini’s gruffalo’s child (in bed with teddies, I’m not needing to lumber about with turned out toes and terrible claws and such) and drawing pictures with matching letters 💖

I have also been watching some thriller on Netflix but the plot’s got more holes than a colander that’s been through a hole punch

Dancingtomusic · 16/04/2021 17:45

Sing- that sounds wonderful to play gruffalo! That is more my kind of day...or level. I have been ignoring my 2 to do CV.

You are lovely sing, thank you. Its my fault. I shouls have followed the National Careers service guide for CV. 😔

'D'h showed me the work i need to do. It was like Phil Mitchel explaining the work...🙄....while bursting in anger at some bits....'you wouldnt do that Would You!'

Me- 'erm, I have never seen this before...so....its difficult to say...but no...i wud not delete someone elses work.'

😖 you guys are correct. This is a terrible idea to work with Dh. I can now hope i dont get this job, when apply as my confidence and energy is gone. I havent slept. I am still looking after the kids. Ignore me...i will alright tomo.

SingToTheSky · 16/04/2021 18:15

Aw Dancing it does sound like it’s for the best. Why is he so keen for you to work there anyway? Would it be directly with him or just somewhere else in a bigger company?

You’ve made great progress getting any of your CV done (I still haven’t tackled mine 😬) - don’t lose sight of what you have achieved! Are there other places you could look for work instead? 💐

Iceisnice · 16/04/2021 18:22

@halfhope Grin
@Redsquirrel5 I am sure this will not be the last incident I experience in the perils of being a parent! Might not have any hair left by the time all 3 leave home.... Shock.
@Dancingtomusic I was terrified because I couldn't see her top two front teeth because if the volume of blood, both adult ones have come through so all I could think was that she had lost her teeth Sad. Thankfully once I managed to stop the blood I could see the teeth. To top it all my youngest DD was freaking out upstairs because I had to leg it downstairs to deal with DD accident, and baby ice decided to have a screaming fit because he wanted to cluster feed another bottle and obviously eldest DD was hysterical due to the blood and pain... all this before 8am. God knows what the neighbour's thought.
But we survived it with our nerves semi shredded and our sense if humour semi intact!

Iceisnice · 16/04/2021 18:24

@Dancingtomusic if there is anything we can do to help with cv etc let us know.

I think I would last about 20 minutes working with DH before he ended up under the patio....

EventuallyDistracted · 16/04/2021 18:35

Dancing Flowers I wouldn't be able to work with my DH either, I do half a day a week for his business but that is as far as it goes and I don't enjoy it (not particularly because of him I might add, but the whole dynamic is awkward). You can get good advice from lots of places about your CV, you've done well getting it started again.

Dancingtomusic · 16/04/2021 19:09

Ice- bloody hell that sounds scary that you could't see her teeth! Thank goodness they were still intact. Aww, you sound like you have all been through such a rough time. Hope you get some chance to sit and settle your nerves after such a worry. FlowersSending you hot Brew and comfy sofa and ear defenders....just so you get 10mins to yourself.

Sing- I dont know what to type. I am at that point. I am very happy I have done started Cv. One reason I started posting on this thread was to get my brain back used to typing and writing the words that I thought as after having babies I was struggling to do that. So this lovely thread has been a god send to me...as when I was typing my Cv, it wasnt such a strain. 😬

Ed- most people hate working with my Dh (i wonder why 🤷‍♀️) . I have decided to call it a night and get kids to bed and go sleep myself...or just read mn and not think of CV.

🍒👋everyone

SingToTheSky · 16/04/2021 19:32

Good idea 💐

HazelNuttyElf · 16/04/2021 19:34

dancing that sounds so stressful. Hopefully you can take your mind off everything and relax. If it was meant to be, it will be. If not, at least your CV will be updated for when something else comes along.
Sing oh no to waking up to a wet bed, that's never any fun for anyone.
Ice Hopefully DD will make a quick recovery re lip.
hope I hope you make a quick recovery from your procedure
Red it sounds like you had a good day, I'm wanting to go shopping for flowers/ plants, but have to wait until we're in the new house.
zoo how are you doing now my lovely? It sounds like you've had a very rough day so far and need some 'me time'
ED I did think about stopping down my ILs bathroom sink etc, but I'm not sure if I have that motivation. DC should be doing my own house today since they're home.

Full day of work today so not much to report 🍒👋 to everyone

Redsquirrel5 · 16/04/2021 22:12

Hazel you could start a plan of the garden😃 make a list of plants.

Dancing sounds very stressful have a Gin
Yes, we are getting about 21 a week. One hen sometimes lays two a day. I gave some to a friend’s two year old at church tonight. She was really chuffed.

Zoo did the day improve at all?

Sitting watching re runs of Doc Martin.

I was painting the door frame this afternoon & DH doesn’t think I should have painted the rubber edge ( to help give a good fit when closed ) but I couldn’t paint all the frame if I didn’t.I have a good mind to tell him to get the painter to do it. He said he could have done it but I insisted. I did because I thought it would save money. I wish I hadn’t bothered now and let the painter do it. I did the front door (2 coats )and the new back door ( 4 coats) and the shelves and the sitting room. Oh and the bathroom.Probably saved about £300 selfish git! Bloody men!

Cut back some plants and tidied up others.

HazelNuttyElf · 17/04/2021 03:26

Red that's so rude of DH! After all that work you did. I would start planning where to put things, but DH will be putting in a garage, and with the patio we'll add etc, it'll be hard to figure out where I can plant things. I know I want a lilac bush, roses, hasta, lavender and another plant that I can't think of the name. I'll attach a pic. I also want to plant another fire crab apple tree and some tulips for next spring. A lot of it will have to wait and be added over time, once I know where the sun hits and what time of the day. I have an idea, but might be different once the tree that's there gets its leaves.
I wish I could have some of your eggs! I love getting the farm fresh eggs, luckily I have someone close by who has chickens.

DC got the house cleaned today, vacuumed, mopped, cleaned the bathroom, LoL
I did sort out the papers that were piling up though.

HazelNuttyElf · 17/04/2021 03:26

Love the plant hazel I’m completely clueless about plants though!

I have been thinking about getting more indoor plants. I’ve seen some rooms on various TV shows where there are pot plants that sort of “spill over” the shelf like this pic, and I really like that look - would like some on the bathroom windowsill and I was thinking of putting something similar on the trofast units on the landing, so it hangs over the bannister. Does anyone know other plants that would do that? Although maybe ivy would be best for me as I’m assuming it’s quite low maintenance :o

Must put yesterday’s wash in the dryer. And do more laundry.

HillsBesideTheSea · 17/04/2021 09:33

I might as well have a hangover. I ate something for my tea that my body felt the need to have opinions about. I have a sore tunny and am really tired this morning.

To do
study
Study
Study some more
Study even more
Go collect teen
Throw tea at people
early night

The plus note of last night's misadventure is that I finished a book, and I am really glad I already have the next in the serious cos that was a cliff hanging non cliff hanger. Hmm But first the novella i started.
I am almost up to date with the 1 book a month (without having read anything for 2 months) total of 12 books this year goal i had. Yes i know it is pitiful but i read so much factual that i don't often have the time for fiction and it is 12 fiction books that is the goal.

Hope you all have lovely fun family fun days... Grin

HillsBesideTheSea · 17/04/2021 09:36

Ivy is not low maintenance I have killed 6 of the fuckers in the last 18months.
Spider plants are very forgiving and almost bomb proof and will give you extra baby plants so there is a good return on money.
What ever anyone says ferns are not easy plants either they are incredibly fussy and you need to be very on top of the enough but not too much water at all times. (killed several of those)

I have a parlour palm and have managed to keep that alive, i also have an african violet plant that seems to be doing marvelously. but they won't hang over the edge for you.

SingToTheSky · 17/04/2021 09:38

Oh no hills :( that’s what DH feels like after gluten. Nightmare :( hope you feel better soon. Glad you’ve been reading! It’s not pitiful at all, there have been some years where I’ve barely read one whole book. I was reading a fair bit until a couple of weeks ago and then I just stopped as the novel I’m on is a bit dull. And I am now practically inhaling crime dramas and thrillers on Netflix et al, so I’m obviously getting an easier dopamine hit from those 😂 must make more effort to read.

I haven’t moved yet. Can’t believe the holidays are nearly over. Really need to get a plan up and running for DS, likely a gentle one next week to finish up a few things and just get used to actually having HE meet ups to go to. Also got at least one appointment (although not had confirmation from camhs yet Hmm) - must fill in the weekly planner board today!

SingToTheSky · 17/04/2021 09:44

X posts - thank you for plant advice! I’ll look them all up - still want some other non hanging plants as well, for different locations. I just want lots of life in the house! I don’t think we had a single pot plant when I was little. We have a few in the kitchen (including an orchid - I didn’t believe my friend when she said it was unkillable but it’s still going) but I really need to learn more.

HillsBesideTheSea · 17/04/2021 09:47

I have little pot of lettice that I can pick the baby leaves off as i walk past and just munch. I have a number of pots of herbs on window sils. and again i will just pull leaves off some of them and munch them. I should probably have my summer plants all started and ready to go but I have not got around to it yet this year. It will be fine next weekend I am sure.

HillsBesideTheSea · 17/04/2021 09:48

Yeah orchids are not unkillable. I have killed many of those too.
