FLYing Babysteppers, Graduates and Newbies

CindersNeedsHelp · 26/10/2007 22:11

This is a thread for anyone who feels daunted by the grown-up FLY thread!!! Particularly those who:
Are starting FLYing (Newbies)
Have just finished babysteps (Graduates)
Or
Are experienced FLYBabies but, for whatever reason, want or need to babystep again (Babysteppers)

Here are links to the mission page, the sneak peek page and the Riley challenge page.

And those all important reminders:
Mon reminder
Tue reminder
Wed reminder
Thur reminder
Fri reminder
Sat reminder
Sun reminder

I am a babysteps graduate. I don't FLY everyday, but on the days I do, I really find it helps.

Oh dear, everyone seems to be ill at the moment!! Flowery sorry you've had such a scary time of it, hope ds gets all better soon. Mine had a d&v bug at about 5 months and we were told to just keep spooning Dioralyte into him in between feeds, seemed to help perk him up more quickly. It's so frightening when they're ill when they're so tiny. PDT hope you feel better soon too.

We had ds at dr.'s Friday afternoon after a 45 minute coughing fit - coughing every breath - very scary - I was supposed to be going into work for a presentation so dp had come home but didn't feel I could leave him. All well, just a cold, but we have all had really stinking colds all weekend and are competing as to who can be grumpiest! Got so overwhelmed with state of kitchen last night I wept ...

On plus side, emotional meltdowns are rare from me always seem to end up with a good result in the end. This time, and dp has spent the afternoon decluttering our living room - we need to get house ready to sell asap and I didn't think we were ever going to start, so that feels good!

unknownrebelbang · 18/11/2007 20:24

Can I join in the sickness stakes??

I'm on my third cough and cold in four weeks. DS1 was offside during the week, DS2 is on antibiotics for an infection in his leg, and DS3 is sharing my cough, and it's nasty for him.

Hope everyone is feeling better vv soon.

Anyhoo, not done masses over the weekend, but I did defrost the freezer yesterday (long overdue). DH has switched the other freezer off today(in the garage) and left it to defrost rather than doing it properly...he can clear it out tomorrow.

And today we've had the joy of a blocked toilet, just as he was walking out the door to work, lol. Thankfully he hung around and sorted it out (phew) and it's fine now.

Shannaratiger · 18/11/2007 21:14

Evening everyone

Where is everyone, it is very quiet.
Flowery welcome back. Hope ds is back to normal v. soon.
Just a quick post. DP had week off, have done v. little FLYing. Survived weekend at my parents (DP adn myF)
Next week have really got to start sorting my self out.
First need to sort post/paperwork as have lost £65 tesco vouchers
Second need to sort DC's room, lost a piece from dd's new toy on her birthday, 1 month ago!
Third need to sort out our wardrobe, still have baby stuff not used for 6mnths etc., can't see floor and have nowhere to stash Christmas presents, which can't buy until find the vouchers!!
I'm getting stressed thinking about it so am going to watch ghost whisperer, and make a start tomorrow.
Back tomorrow

Bienchen · 19/11/2007 07:29

wb Bienchen, sorry you've not been too good.

Lol, Cinders, like everything else you just get on with it I suppose, but it's very wearing with being offside myself. Thankfully, they're not ill very often. DS2 has to go back to the GP tomorrow, as he now has a lump in his groin, although the infection seems to be clearing up. DH is out of sorts again, but I think that's the shifts rather than anything else.

Done very little today, but have had a sneak at the missions and have noted it's the bedroom again. I'm nearly there with our bedroom so rather than do the missions my target for the week is to actually finish the room completely.

May have to consider doing some lists for Christmas too....

Shannaratiger · 20/11/2007 08:59

Morning all

I have found the vouchers, yes i had thrown them in the recycling bin

ds woke up at 5:30 this morning and woke dd up. have therefore done all morning routine and nearly done mission, will put dc's clothes away when ds wakes back up.
DD doesn't have playschool today i'm therefore going to stop procrastinating(?) and pull out our bed clean/scrub the window sill & hoover.
rebel hope u and the dc's r feeling better today.
Cinders looks like you're doing really well.
I am now going to carry on working out office calender, it beeps reminders at u! need to find my address book and it will auto remind me of birthdays i think.
back later

unknownrebelbang · 20/11/2007 21:36

Glad you found the vouchers.

The boys are all ok thanks. DS2's lump is a swollen gland, so nothing serious.

Have had a lazy evening because although I am feeling better, thought I'd not push things too soon - and DH had done a quick scoot through the lounge and kitchen.

Excuses, excuses, lol.

funnypeculiar · 20/11/2007 21:44

Mad busy with work, not much flying (makes me realise how much I AM doing on a normal day now! )
Bienchen - are you OK?

flowerybeanbag · 21/11/2007 09:43

morning all!

DS is much much better and guzzling his feeds to make up for the weekend.

As a result I am doing much better, getting back on track with FLYing, did morning routine this morning.

No more blackouts or anything and I'm feeling ok at the moment, not too washed out (although haven't been out and about) so I'm avoiding going back to the doctors for the time being.

Hope everyone and their DCs are well and getting better after illnesses. BC that doesn't sound too good, how are you feeling today?

Bienchen · 21/11/2007 19:31

Hi all,

glad to hear most of you and LO are picking up again and I laughed at Tiger's efficient recycling. You must be so relieved.

Am just sticking to morning routine for now and not even looking at missions.

Thanks for all your kind words. I think I am beginning to deal with the effects of being made redundant this time last year. At the time I just pushed it to the back as I did not want my pregnancy to be affected but now that DD is coming on well it is raising its ugly head. I also miss an income of my own. Money is tight but not desperate but we are budgeting v carefully and this is our first Christmas with 2 kids. And we are planning to get married in March, so saving for the rings but each month there's something else cropping up like a car service or insurance or a broken appliance... anyway, will stop moaning now and put out clothes for DD and myself.

Hope to check in tomorrow.

CindersNeedsHelp · 21/11/2007 20:31

I?ve noticed this thread has less traffic these days, but I don?t think it?s necessarily a bad thing. We are all very successfully FLYing in our own way and I think that has a lot to do with the support on this thread. I like the fact that I can dip in and catch up everyone, but at the same time not have loads to read through!

Bienchen I hope you can come to some kind of terms with your redundancy. It must be difficult. Plus the money side of things. As a SAHM I know what you mean about things being tight. It?s Christmas on a shoe-string for us, with angels made from cuts outs of DS feet/hands, and homemade wrapping paper! And there is always something else cropping up ? and it always costs a lot!!! And here is precisely the place to moan! We are your FLY friends and (speaking for myself only) struggle too. This is my sounding board!

Flowery glad your blackouts appear to have stopped.
FP any mums? normal day is tough, but add work ?
Rebel so glad DS2 is well! And what is going on your list for Christmas? Just out of curiosity (and to see if I can nick ideas!!)
Tiger over misplaced vouchers. I?m glad I?m not the only one who does such things!!!

Hello everyone else!

OP posts:
unknownrebelbang · 21/11/2007 22:20

I give up.

Cinders, not got there yet, but we're away for Christmas so not the usual stuff.

Will have to plan:

pressies for everyone here
stockings to take with us
cards (much reduced list)
packing, hehe.

and that's about it really.

Still got to sort out airport parking; flextickets and dollars.

I would also like the house to be in some semblance of order, but at the moment I'm really struggling.

Shannaratiger · 22/11/2007 07:04

Morning everyone

flowery glad u and DS are better
FP i don't know how mums manage to go out to work as well. the money would be really useful but my stress levels wouldn't cope.
Rebel i'm sure you'll get everything organised v. soon

Had a lovely 5:30 start this morning
At least have got dressed
Washed up & put away from last night. (I just forgot about it until got up in night to get a glass of water. Have got so used already to having a shiny sink am ws so horrible to have washing up like it always used to be.)
W/M has nearly finished
Me adn DD have finished breakfast.

Have tdlr grp today = no 3 hr round trip taking dd to playschool.
DP has today off so delayed tackling bedroom window sill etc. so he can help me pull out the furniture.
Am also getting DS's hair cut again, he's only 14mnths but this is his 4th hair cut
Hope everyone has a good day, had better go w/m has just finished

back later

funnypeculiar · 22/11/2007 22:04

Don't give me too much sympathy, guys - I work 2 days from home and do a job I love - it ain't so bad! But when I'm busy, I work eves/when dd sleeps - ie flytimes!

Bienchen - I can totally understand - I found it took me a long time to get used to the drop in income going to p/t after being a f/t earner. But, for me, totally worth the pain Me & dh keep discussing setting up a little account for each of us & paying it a little bit of our own 'spening money' - I always feel bad spending money on myself out of the joint account.

FBB - glad you're feeling better ... but would it not be a good idea to go to the GP & just get checked out??

Unknownrebelbang - where are you going for chrimble?

unknownrebelbang · 22/11/2007 22:35

We're off to Florida FP.

I work more or less school hours (25 hrs pw), so most days I drop the boys, go to work and come home to pick them up. If DH is around he'll sometimes pick them up and I work late to meet deadlines etc. Don't have school holidays though.

The lads have various activities four nights out of five, plus every Saturday and Sunday, and I help out with some of the activities, although I am working on cutting back, but you can't just drop people in the lurch.

They do far too much tbh, but they enjoy what they do, and it keeps them occupied, but it means we're home long enough to make a blardy mess, but not long enough to clear it up!

DH is usually very good, but since we came back from half-term, he's been out of sorts, as have I, plus the lads blah blah blah.

Anyway, today I have issued my orders to the boys and we've all mucked in tonight. Now, if they could put stuff away, instead of dropping it wherever, life would be soooo much easier.

And I still aim to get the bedroom done by the weekend.

PuppyDogTails · 24/11/2007 15:32

Hello gang - hope we're all well. Just a quick check in from my parents house, haven't caught up with all the news. So I've got a whole ten days off chores, I'm sure I'll have to make up for it when I get back and the house is in a state .

flowerybeanbag · 26/11/2007 19:03

Anyone about today? It's getting all quiet here!

We were away for the weekend at PIL. My dad came over from France for a friend's 90th birthday so we went down to meet him, staying at the inlaws. Day with my dad and one brother was really lovely, but inlaws irritated the hell out of me.

FIL basically ignored DS all weekend
MIL announced that they wouldn't be around for DS's 1st birthday in May because there are cheap flights available to Spain that week.

WTF?! I am SO angry and upset. I feel like DS is missing out on having a grandad and will also miss out on his one and only 1st birthday. Yes I know he won't remember but I still think it's rubbish. Especially considering the fact that 4 years ago when my niece had her 1st birthday, if anyone had suggested that they might miss it for something else the very idea would have been absolutely .

It's not f*%"ing fair. Arrrggghh. And we've invited them here for Christmas. I now feel like cancelling that and either having Christmas by ourselves or going to my parents in France for Christmas instead. In laws do not deserve to spend Christmas with DS.

Hope everyone else is ok, I'm not too bad, getting back on track with FLYing although finding keeping up with the kitchen tricky. DS is doing BLW and the result is er..messy to say the least

Bienchen · 28/11/2007 19:02

Puppy - enjoy the time off!!

Flowery - how are you doing? No more black outs? Sorry to hear about your inlaws. I can understand that you are annoyed. Maybe it is grandchild fatigue (have they got lots of GC already)? DS was the third GC for my ex DP's parents and we got a pack of vests for his birth. The first GC got a pram from Harrods . Oh and they came to visit us but booked their return flight to Oz for a few days before DS's due date. I beat them to it by having him early

I got myself a prescription for some AD's on Monday. The bl**dy job situation is driving me mad. So far so good, as I have stopped bursting into tears over nothing. No side effects either.

I am a bit behind on FLYing, getting mainly only morning jobs done but the house is reasonably tidy.

Hope I have not killed the thread now...

CindersNeedsHelp · 29/11/2007 09:06

Just read through to catch up and Flowery I totally agree that PIL do not deserve 1st Christmas with DS if they can?t b a55ed with 1st birthday. I would go to France and say ?I managed to get cheap tickets?!!!! See how they feel about that!!!!! Honestly, don?t spend Christmas with them! It?s a special time and they make you feel bad, not special!!!

Hope everyone else is getting on well. And I think it?s a good thing in many ways that this thread has got a bit quiet, because it means we have all been successful in getting our chaos in order!!

Anyway, for me, all weekly home blessing activities done yesterday as had guest for tea. House was clear and clean, except spare room that is just junk room at the moment. Considering it was my first FLYing task, and I did get it clear, it?s disappointing that it has reverted back to its previous bad state. A lot of it is xmas pressies and rolls of home-made wrapping paper etc., so hopefully I will be able to get it clear again in the New Year.

Still to do this week
Clear out handbag/change bag
Paperwork hot spot (as always)
Vacuum stairs
Mop kitchen
Plan menus
Change bedding
Kelly?s Missions

Still to do today
Laundry
Bathroom swish and swipe
Get meat out for dinner and clear away
Evening routine

Those lists don?t look too daunting!

Take care all.

systemsaddict · 29/11/2007 22:03

Hi guys, been off for a few days as had nasty ear infection but all cleared up now, morning sickness totally gone now too and I feel NORMAL for the first time in months! I can eat Real Food and everything! So am back to FLYing 'properly', even did a Home Blessing Hour of sorts yesterday morning (though did have guest coming at 11 which helped with motivation!) Off now to get clothes ready for tomorrow, washing up is done and sink clear. Will keep focusing on those two as my baby steps for now but am now able to write short lists of things to do in a day and actually COMPLETE the list for the first time in ages.

Flowery, your in-laws sound like complete pains and agree they don't deserve to spoil your Christmas! Bienchen, glad the anti-d's are helping - they're such marvellous things when you get the right ones, I think you often don't realise how low you've got until things start to improve. Hope you carry on feeling better.

CindersNeedsHelp · 03/12/2007 17:23

Hello everyone. I?ve been on a thread talking about whether xmas theme photos of LOs are naff/poor taste or not (here). I think my xmas piccy is cute. What do you think? (I?ll put it up on my profile!)

WalkingCinderWinterWonderland · 04/12/2007 11:47

Name change here. Hi everyone, how are you all doing?

Bienchen · 04/12/2007 13:16

Hi everyone. Is there a guilty emoticon for not posting for so long?

I have managed to carry out most of my basic list most days but can't get round to the missions. Then again I am slotting in other jobs and on the whole the house is reasonably tidy.

Found this morning that my MN Christmas appeal parcel has arrived, so am v happy

And managed to plan Christmas menus (we don't do turkey but enjoy our foreign food instead...

Systemsaddict so glad to hear your morning sickness has cleared - did the scan go ok?

Cinders I like the idea for family and friends

Off to fold nappies....
