FLYing Babysteppers, Graduates and Newbies

CindersNeedsHelp · 26/10/2007 22:11

This is a thread for anyone who feels daunted by the grown-up FLY thread!!! Particularly those who:
Are starting FLYing (Newbies)
Have just finished babysteps (Graduates)
Or
Are experienced FLYBabies but, for whatever reason, want or need to babystep again (Babysteppers)

Here are links to the mission page, the sneak peek page and the Riley challenge page.

And those all important reminders:
Mon reminder
Tue reminder
Wed reminder
Thur reminder
Fri reminder
Sat reminder
Sun reminder

I am a babysteps graduate. I don't FLY everyday, but on the days I do, I really find it helps.

And I never said hello to Skribble so hello!!!

I think some time ignoring MN is a good idea Cinders, I'm feeling particularly infuriated this evening, there seems to be a lot of bullying going on, so I'm going to sign off and go to bed with a book.

Have a good weekend all, I may not be back until Monday either.

CindersNeedsHelp · 09/11/2007 21:49

And Bienchen I look forward to reading your lists and nagging you if you don?t get things done [manic grin emoticon]

Can I be excused FLYing today?

I took the boys to school, then went to work, ending up there til 6pm (should finish 3ish) dashed Tesco to pick up snacks for the school quiz night, had about 30 mins at home to eat tea, sort out prizes and catch up with the boys, then took DS2 to scouts, caught up with the rest at the quiz night and got back in at 9.30ish.

Am away for the weekend, and have done a list for DH with the boys' commitments (and a list of jobs - am ever hopeful!). I still have to pack, but thanks to FLYing I at least know where everything is!

Have a great weekend everyone.

systemsaddict · 10/11/2007 10:43

Yeah, I love mumsnet and have learnt a lot here, but it can be a bit bruising, can't it? I think the trick is to avoid the hot button topics. I posted something on a breastfeeding question that hadn't had any replies quite early on in my mumsnet membership - really just enthusiastically sharing my experiences as OP hadn't had a reply and didn't want them to be ignored - and was Told Off in no uncertain terms by Someone Who Knows About This Stuff for spreading myth - even though some of the 'myth' I'd had from a breastfeeding advisor. So have avoided all breastfeeding topics since - didn't realise how easy it was to step on people's toes!

Funny how it affects you though, considering we don't know who anyone is. I was shook up about it for days and it still makes me feel a bit uncomfortable thinking about it. Hope you're OK Cinders. Like the painting idea - might try something similar with ds, although he might be a bit young - we'll see!

Congrats on graduating Tiger!

Plan for today is to babystep round house - ds is exhausted and will hopefully sleep a lot - he's currently napping so need to make the most of it! Next tasks: empty recycling, clean kitchen counters. Hoping to get a 15 minute decluttering session in in bedroom too.

Shannaratiger · 10/11/2007 11:30

Morning all

Cinders glad you've got over the rough treatment u got.

MonkeyTrumpet i agree with u about the bullying, alot of the time's i keep my opinions to myself, especially since i am not very good at getting done what's in my head.

Have had a really busy morning, haven't got the timer out. So far have:
done morning routine
defrosted and scrubbed the freezer
scrubbed adn sorted out food in the fridge.
still haven't cleaned floor though, will do it monday with bathroom floor.
after lunch we r going to iceland to restock the freezer.

Hope u all have a good weekend

MonkeyTrumpet · 10/11/2007 13:31

Well I'm back, weak principled me . I've decided to keep away from the contentious threads, I might even block 'chat' which will stop me being tempted in. Glad you agree with me ST and SA, we're never going to fall out on here! MN has been very useful to me in the short time I've been on here.

DS had a bad night last night, whimpering most of the night, full on crying at times which is unlike him. I brought him into bed with me. He also had a particularly foul nappy this morning. Not sure if it's the teething or if some food disagreed with him (I've been giving him a bit of pasta now he's hit 6 months, perhaps he's a bit wheat intolerant). He seems a bit happier today but has slept for 2 hours this morning which is unheard of. Think I'll just keep with safe foods and give him plenty of milk and try to flush it through.

ST and SA it sounds like you are both FLYing this weekend! I've got a very houseproud cousin coming to stay next weekend which is focussing me on getting the last bits of serious clutter sorted.

Hope everyone's well.

systemsaddict · 10/11/2007 16:21

Well ds has obliged by having 2 2-hour naps (v. v. grumpy in between! he didn't sleep enough yesterday, has a cold and was exhausted) so I have caught up on washing up, cleaned kitchen counters, washed nappies, and the big job, sorted through all my and ds' clothes that were shoved in carrier bags under the bed. Have 5 bags of clothes to recycle in the yard, and have discovered why I have nothing to wear: am too big for my trousers now and all my decent maternity clothes were lent out to a dear friend, who now has a 5 week old, I can't bring myself to ask for them back just yet, she has enough on her plate - and she may still need them, after all I was still in some of them 6 months post-partum . So, next step: ebay!

MonkeyTrumpet · 10/11/2007 17:42

I need to sell my maternity clothes SA (well, the decent ones anyway), but I don't suppose you're 6ft tall with a 36" leg are you?! No, didn't think so, not many women are!

systemsaddict · 11/11/2007 10:02

Thanks for the offer Monkey but at 5'7 regular leg not sure they would be much good to me!! I bet someone else would be really grateful to get the chance to buy that lot though, I found it hard enough finding nice maternity stuff in standard sizes, did it take you ages to put a wardrobe together? I now have a picture of you in my head as willowy and elegant btw!

Bienchen · 12/11/2007 08:38

SA - willowy and elegant I may have been when I was 18 and three stone lighter! Now I'm more amazonian at best! It was a nightmare buying maternity clothes and I ended up with just a few fundamentals that got a lot of washing!

I'll be back in a little while with my list (following Bienchen's good example).

SuperMonkey · 12/11/2007 10:03

Today's list:

CindersNeedsHelp · 12/11/2007 15:36

Hello all. FLYing OK today:
Get dressed done
Make bed done
Take dirty clothes downstairs and put laundry on done - two loads done today
Breakfast and clear away done
Check calendar for today's events done
Bathroom swish and swipe done
Weekly Home Blessing activity done (two day?s worth - dust/vacuum whole of upstairs)
Made up and delivered xmas shoe box done
Took DS to drs done (he has bad eczema but thankfully not meningitis or whatever worse rash fear I had brewing in my mind !)

Need to get off my a55 and do:
Decluttering
Put clean laundry away
Kelly?s Mission (bathroom cobwebs/light fixture & PC book shelf ? which is to the left of the PC)
2 minute hot spot
Prepare dinner (enchiladas ? yum!)

Will go do them soon ? ish

SA last xmas DS was about your LOs age, and I did feet and hand prints on paper, laminated them and gave them as placemats for people! That might be an idea! Also, this year I am doing this wreath. I?ve done it with plain white paper and it looks really effective, so will be buying nice green card and red ribbon!!

Bienchen I am going mad, because I read your post and thought you wrote ?
Walk dishwasher
Empty dog

And, finally, I just wondered how you girls all approach the Weekly Home Blessing? I?ve split it over the week, and my weekly list is:

MONDAY - Dust/vacuum landing & main bed room
TUESDAY - Empty bins, purge magazines/recyclables & put wheelie bins out
WEDNESDAY - Dust/sweep/mop bathroom & polish bathroom mirrors & bring in wheelie bins
THURSDAY - Dust/vacuum DS room & spare room
FRIDAY - Dust/sweep/mop living room & clear out handbag & sort out paperwork
SATURDAY - Clear out car & vacuum stairs
SUNDAY - Mop kitchen. Clean out fridge. Check contents of fridge and freezer. Plan menus for week. Change bedding. (Sunday DH helps me).

Although it?s on my list, I haven?t yet cleared out my handbag or my car . However to cheer myself up again I remind myself that I dust/wipe down and sweep kitchen at least twice a day, although it?s not on any list, as it needs doing with my LO who throws food every where every mealtime!!!

Ooops, long post. Sorry if you can?t be bothered to read it!!!

Bienchen · 12/11/2007 20:32

Evening all!!!

Mission not done as it is rather late. Then again it was an ambitious list for today and I sort of expected that some things would be shelved.

I have to carry over:

  • planting raspberry canes; had ordered a few more than I needed for Leicester, so will plant them in our garden instead
  • mission: will have to be done tomorrow
  • post office: posted a whole heap of staff today but there's more to go tomorrow
  • secret mission: will have to wait a few weeks

Tiger - my lists are on a simple word document that I amend every night for the next day. Highlight whole document (edit, select all) then press CTRL + C buttons at same time. Text will appear white on black, change screen to your mumsnet page and goi into message box, press CTRL + V buttons simultaneously. Should work! I then just change stuff to bold manually. Can I get a job in tech support now?

SuperMonkey - have you namechanged again? Fed up with trumpeting? BTW, I have sold nearly all my maternity wear on Ebay and some through a maternity exchange. Made enough money to buy new room divider/massive playpen for DD, so v happy.

Cinders - you have a cleaning rota. I just do a bit when I think it needs doing (and when I can rope someone else in as well)

Hope that Rebel gets on ok.
Anyone heard from Skribble?
I presume Flowery is still lying low, metaphorically speaking of course! Or is that FLYing low. I go now, my jokes are getting worse.

unknownrebelbang · 12/11/2007 22:00

Evening all. Just signing in. Had a great weekend, but several hours driving, a night clubbing and little sleep have not done wonders for my FLYing, lol.

DH managed to sort the lads, the uniforms (and more washing) and kept the house reasonable over the weekend, considering he was a not feeling well (he's had a crud couple of weeks).

I had a lie-in this morning before work, so didn't do my morning routine.

Did get on my ex bike tonight and got the lads to do 15 minutes tidying up each before we all had to go out again.

I've just tidied the sink, so reckon I'm back on track to start again tomorrow.

Hope the babies are all well tomorrow.

And Flowery, if you're lurking, trust you are well. Please come back and let us know how you are.

unknownrebelbang · 12/11/2007 22:10

Cinders - the weekly thing I keep planning to do on a Thursday, as this is only day none of the boys have any commitments, only things keep cropping up (music teacher appts last Thursday, lol).

Some of it is done as and when required anyway, but a regular hour would really help - especially wiping down the woodwork - the boys get their filthy mitts everywhere!

On the positive side, my handbag is kept fairly tidy, and my car is immaculate (only cos I emptied it Saturday morning, lol, before I put my suitcase in.)

funnypeculiar · 12/11/2007 22:19

hello everyone
Sorry - have been avoiding the distraction that is mn for the last week or so - but have been FLYing and thinking of you all! Sorry you've been having a battering, cinders. I've never been brave enough to post on a contentious mn thread yet [coward emoticon] - I just avoid stuff where I know I'd get shouted at!

Cinders, I was going to do something similar to your day by day split for the weekly blessing hour - I tried to do it as an hour last time I did flylady, and it never worked. I work Tues & Thurs, so thought I might split mine over the other weekdays - I'm also going to work just on the basics for now (babysteps!)

Mon - change bed sheets (my least favourite job, so tackle on Mon & get it over with )
Weds - hoover upstairs
Fri - mop kitchen & bathroom floor

Shannaratiger · 13/11/2007 07:55

Morning all

Have just looked at last night, sorry 4 the repetition computer was playing up.
Bienchin will try that later, wait 4 the results
funnypeculiar i'm the same with the weekly home blessing hour.
When i get the hoover out, (takes about 4mins by the time have got pipes adn attachments i want out & filled wiht water), i want do a proper hoover everywhere which takes about 45 mins inc.dd 'helping'.
Am trying really hard to think of daily routines though, esp. as it takes a total of 3hours to take and pickup dd from playschool 4 days per week which eally breaks the day up & am very worried about ds not getting enough playing time with me.
Anyway my 15 mins MN time is up.
Have done most of morning routine. back later hopefully with list cut & pasted.

Bienchen · 13/11/2007 08:02

Good morning!

Glad you had a good weekend Rebel.
Nice to see you back Funny.

We have rain today and it was already freezing last night but has warmed up overnight, so no ice. I do worry about ice as DP leaves the house at 4:45am!

Here's today's list chez Bienchen:

Walk dog
empty dishwasher done
make beds done
Empty washing machine and load tumble dryer done
hang up washing done

2 minute hotspot (put dry washing away) done

How much will I get done...?

SuperMonkey · 13/11/2007 09:01

OMG minimonkey slept for 12 hours and I didn't even give him a dreamfeed! Incredible, hope I haven't jinxed it.

Recapping then: I'm still working on my weekly home blessing to get the routine right Cinders, but it looks something like this (I'm taking it slowly!)

Monday - Half hour cleaning - throw papers and magazines, clean mirrors, vacuum upstairs

Tuesday - Wash and change bedlinen

Wednesday - Clear out fridge, empty bins, make shopping list

Thursday - Supermarket

Friday - Clean out car, half hour cleaning - vacuum and mop downstairs, dust

Saturday - Clean out handbag, file papers

Sunday - Ironing

I'm carrying a few things over from yesterday too Bienchen, I still have to clear stairs, mop conservatory floor and do Kelly's mission. In my defence though, I did clean up the front step which wasn't on my list. It was a sunny day so decided to wash the door down, get rid of the cobwebs, brush the step and trim the plants. Looks a lot better.

Tiger I have my routines in my control journal and I just cut, paste and edit from a previous entry.

Yes Bienchen, I have namechanged again. I'm having real name issues, I have a number of different user names on different websites, I have never been able to find one I'm happy with that I can use universally. Anyway, I tried to use SuperMonkey on ravelry.com and some bugger has already taken it . So I'm trying to find a new name.

Blimey Rebel, how have you found the energy for clubbing?!

Hope everyone is well. DS has just gone down for his nap so I must get on.

Catch you all anon and hello Flowery if you're lurking.
