Fledglings awaiting April organisation... and a plan - the Flylady thread

Welcome to the April Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day I will post a link to the launchpad which has everything you need for that day if you do want to follow the system strictly. Plenty of options to follow the system more loosely as well :).

Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

April’s habit is usually making your bed which is a nice easy one Smile.

beginner babysteps.

The best place to look for an overall summary is the launch pad.

Happy flying everyone.

Also a huge thank you to Chic for a lovely March thread as always.

Morning all,

Very little flying done here. A relaxed Easter, a few loads of washing and ironing done, but that's about it. Just chilled with the DSs.

Doing paid work this morning, before I can even think about doing any flying.

Lisette - the wasp traps actually work brilliantly, and if you catch some queens you will entirely eliminate a potential nest. Sometimes if you catch enough of the workers the Queen is forced out of her nest and can be lured into the trap as well. If you're really scared of wasps it might really be worth it for you. You don't actually need to do anything once its up, the wasps very kindly eventually go to wasp heaven after entering the trap. If you get a commercial one it fits in a lot of (dead)wasps. Leave it up where you can't see it. It can look pretty disgusting after awhile. You can send someone else out to clean it out and change the liquid every now and then.

But if you have lots of wasps around it's really, really worth gritting your teeth and having one, as you're phobic about wasps it must be very hard for you to even be outside if there are wasps there.

Lisette1940 · 23/04/2019 10:03

PrincessDanae thanks for the info. We had to call out people to deal with a nest on the roof last year and it was fascinating to watch the queen leave the nest and fly off. There were some very confused wasps buzzing around afterwards. I had to stay indoors while it was all happening but after a few hours it was all gone.

Lisette1940 · 23/04/2019 12:13

After the garden work over the weekend, I've now contacted a painter for the painted facade of the house and a gardener to get the tree stump pulled up and a proper path laid to front door. Hedge gets trimmed after green bin collection on Thursday. Rather comically the neighbours have done their side of the hedge with an electric trimmer and my side is wild!

ChicCroissant · 23/04/2019 13:43

Hugs to Lisette, one of my mum's friends had a pathological fear of wazzers too, it is definitely not fun.

zoo your appliances seem to have the seven-year itch or something Hmm

SC I'm sure your DD will love the trip. I have similar feelings about one that my DD is going on which involves a ferry ....

Haven't caught up properly yet, just having some lunch.

Shadycorner · 23/04/2019 14:48

Thank you Chic and Toostressy you are quite right that DD will love the trip and it will be a valuable experience! I know I am being completely and ludicrously irrational (particularly as riding a horse at speed over logs as DD does most w/es is probably far more dangerous then most water sports) and I am projecting my own fear of water which is deeply unhelpful. And DD is a good competent swimmer too (thank heavens she takes after dh and not me in that respect - I do tentative near- vertical scrabbling breast stroke trying not to get my hair wet Grin ) - so I shouldn't be worrying!.

Great list Zoo (despite hoover!).

Expletive I really admire people who can craft and talk at the same time! I have to go in to a people free zone to sew!

Hills I thought of you this morning as I was delivering a colis to colleague who is absolutely beleagured by hay fever atm, he can hardly function (or breathe) poor bloke. Never seen anyone with it suffer so badly. Hope yours improves Flowers

Lisette1940 · 23/04/2019 14:55

Maybe your next user name should be SelectCrack, SC Smile I'm sure kayaking will go well.

The neighbour has done the whole hedge before - perhaps the machine broke. I've something to work with in terms of depth though - I'll know how much to chop. I have old fashioned shears which I'm going to need to sharpen this summer.

We haven't painted the house since we moved here but it's only the top part of the facade. The woodwork near the eaves is fine as we've had that done. Need new garage door too.

Lisette1940 · 23/04/2019 14:56

Thanks Chic. I do like the garden and try not to let the wee beasties get to me.

TooStressyTooMessy · 23/04/2019 15:00

Managed to rescue some of the house but boudoir and landing still surrounded by clean laundry and unpacking. Time for school pick up though.

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/04/2019 15:35

SC just spotted the watersports trip.i get what you mean.even without water involved I always fretted when dd2 went on trips away with school D's did yr 4 one,but not year 6.ditto lil zoo(new to school yr 5,so not confident enough as current best friend wasn't going)and dd2 has never flown so opt out trips to Iceland and Spain that have been offered as she's to scared going up in sky first time with confident regular flyers..

Loads more washing done
Fixed some seams that were in sorry states in some freshly dry stuff

Need fix lil zoo drawers(for clothes, not her undergarments)they're not opening properly and vigorous tugging has pulled a front off one of them

MogTheSleepyCat · 23/04/2019 16:32

Afternoon all,

Ugh. First day back to school for DS today. He was rather unsettled this morning and needed lots of persuasion and encouragement to go in. When I picked him up he was happy as Larry and had had a really good day.

Pre-work TaDas
Fed cats and DS
Loaded up car with all work, school, parcels and charity shop baggage
Dropped of DS
Collected prescription
Posted three eBay parcels
Work (first day back after two weeks off - HOW MANY EMAILS?!?!?)
Collected DS

Must get on with a few more bits before all motivation completely deserts me....

Shadycorner · 23/04/2019 16:34

School trips are obligatory here in the state system Zoo. There is no opt out save for serious health issues. But they don't tend to involve flights and aren't expensive (it's mainly coach trips to adjoining countries). And every child goes on the same "traditional" trip in the same school year, just as their parents and grandparents did! (Very much group conformist culture here.) So school trips are seen as important rite of passage ifyswim! And particularly with DD being an only, I think it's important she participates. I just have that memory of that awful Lyme Bay tragedy in my mind from years ago I think. Ridiculous when travelling by road statistically much more dangerous than canoeing or kayaking! DH has just sent me this article which is meant to be reassuring! But health and safety procedures not as evolved as in UK I think.

Lisette Grin

Meant to say earlier Bower that I love buddleias for attracting butterflies!

Hills we've finished a jar of jam today so am about to make a wasp trap as per your instructions!

Shadycorner · 23/04/2019 16:40

Just to be clear meant health & safety not as good/evolved as much here as it is in UK

Shadycorner · 23/04/2019 16:41

Great that your DS had a good day despite nervous start Mog!

TooStressyTooMessy · 23/04/2019 20:48

Glad your DS had a good day in the end Mog.

Back to work for me tomorrow as well.

Bedroom, huh? Hmm, better get started in there tomorrow!

TaDa:
3 loads into dishwasher, 3 out.
Kitchen is less messy this evening than it was this morning - I consider that a win!

TooStressyTooMessy · 23/04/2019 22:23

Definite win Princess Smile.

I am out. I don't belong on this thread and I am not going to be made to feel unwelcome because people take offense if i don't give a shit if they don;t bother to follow advice that was offered freely without obligation to follow. This does not matter to me enough.

Enjoy the thread ladies but life is too short.

Lisette1940 · 23/04/2019 23:16

Oh for goodness sake hills calm down. We'll both go to the naughty corner and have a cuppa. Let's say no more about it.

ExpletiveDelighted · 23/04/2019 23:24

. Please don't go Hills, you very much belong here.

ExpletiveDelighted · 23/04/2019 23:32

SC - hope DD has a safe and enjoyable trip. My DD has just packed in Guides and says the one thing she'll really miss is the kayaking trips. I can only manage very simple crochet and natter at the same time, this was a blanket I'm working on in very simple stripes.

Lisette we are doing similar house jobs this year, had the roof and fascias/soffits done in Dec, about to replace windows and get rendering repaired ready for painting. The exterior looks really shabby ATM. Blush.

Tada!

Two loads of laundry, hoovered, tidied a bit, decluttered, dinner, helped both DCs with homework (DS has loads now in y10). Few emails sent, desk tidied whilst looking for missing homework sheet .

Lisette1940 · 23/04/2019 23:37

ExpletiveDelighted the painter is swinging by tomorrow to have a look but I can see cracks that need to be filled in before painting. It's just a small part that needs to be painted - the rest of the house is just brick. And the garage has a large dinge from the previous owners and the mechanism's not great. The whole house is just tipping into shabby. I've broken the work into three phases. We might get two lots done this year but due to money and time the kitchen will be next year. Gives me time to think anyway.

ExpletiveDelighted · 23/04/2019 23:46

We've got kitchen on the list for next year too. This year is exterior and re-do DD's room (needs replastering and decorating). The previous owners did the kitchen and windows about 20 years ago but both were cheap and cheerful and are now falling to bits. Kitchen still looks good at first glance but as you close in you can see damaged worktops (cheap wood), damage to doors and drawer fronts etc. The ceiling needs replastering and lights updating too.

Shadycorner · 23/04/2019 23:50

Oh no Hills I've only just seen your post. Please don't leave the thread. You very much belong here and it wouldn't be the same without you xx
