Fledglings awaiting April organisation... and a plan - the Flylady thread

TooStressyTooMessy · 31/03/2019 10:12

Welcome to the April Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day I will post a link to the launchpad which has everything you need for that day if you do want to follow the system strictly. Plenty of options to follow the system more loosely as well :).

Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

April’s habit is usually making your bed which is a nice easy one Smile.

beginner babysteps.

The best place to look for an overall summary is the launch pad.

Happy flying everyone.

Also a huge thank you to Chic for a lovely March thread as always.

School restarts wednesday at chez zoo
One more day leftSad

foxessocks · 22/04/2019 19:27

Same here zoo we have one more day. I'm feeling quite emotional about it (which isn't unusual for me HmmGrin) I've really enjoyed these holidays after a bumpy start!

HillsBesideTheSea · 22/04/2019 19:40

Wasps: Take empty jam jar (jar scrapeings in the bottom encouraged) fill quarter full with water. If not jam add some sugar and a drop of vinegar. Give good shake (with lid on). Take nail about 5mm in diameter. Hammer a hole in lid. Place newly made wasp trap into garden and let natural selection do its job on the wasp. Does not get rid of all of the wasps but reduces the number enough.

Bowerbird5 · 22/04/2019 19:59

Been cleaning out sheds.knackered and back aching since using loppers on buddlia. Have one bag of stuff for school to get rid of around classes. Another almost full. A large box of books which I am not sure what to do with.

TooStressyTooMessy · 22/04/2019 20:38

Hello all, if’s back to school tomorrow for us too Chic so I have tried to get as much as possible ready today. I suspect it will still be a shock to the system in the morning through.

I can see why you need to avoid wasps then Bower!

Wasp info might come in useful Hills, I will squirrel that information away somewhere.

Hope you enjoy the last day tomorrow then zoo and foxes and that ‘back to school’ week goes well Cag.

Easter waves to Ive, SC, newbies and everyone else Smile.

My mother got badly stung as a child Bower. Cue family terror of wasps. There is no way I'm doing that jam jar thing hills though thank you kindly for the information Grin. Pest control, flame gun, small nuclear device etc

HillsBesideTheSea · 22/04/2019 21:30

suit yourself but 4 wasp traps turn our garden into a usuable space where as without them we can't be out in the garden due to them.
For us it works.

Atm we have a problem with bees getting lost and ending up indoors. We are letting the lose again but it is beginning to look like we might need to track and set the local council bee man on them- he relocates them to less problematic sites.

Lisette1940 · 22/04/2019 21:32

I was joking hills hence the grin emoticon.

Lisette1940 · 22/04/2019 21:58

I am very, very seriously wasp phobic. I can't even use the toilets in my work building as it's an old 18th century building with wasps' nests sometimes near the upper floors and there are wasp bodies littered in the loos. I would not be able to venture into the garden if there were dead or dying wasps in jam jars. I'd have a panic attack.

Lisette1940 · 22/04/2019 22:01

There is a non wasp infested loo in a nearby work building and I feel safe using that. I'm so phobic I can't wear perfume during the summer and I won't carry fruit around. I'm terrified.

Shadycorner · 23/04/2019 05:34

Good morning everyone! Hope everyone had a lovely Easter. Good luck to those of you returning to work and school today!

I can totally understand your wasp wariness Lisette as I am badly allergic! Which is a pain apple picking in Sept as some are waiting to ambush! Also I made the mistake of taking a small shrub out of the ground last spring and not filling in the hole and wasps have already made a nest in there.

Might try making that trap Hills because we ate out yesterday and were bombarded. Although I'm sure I saw some wildlife prog or other listing a number of very useful things that wasps do for us (like eating larvae of nasty critters) but can't for the life of me remember what right at the moment! But jar method at least leaves a few to roam free and do their thing!

I have just dropped off DD at assembled coaches ready to go off on a school trip. Please someone tell me she is not going to drown when kayaking [wibble] . I have a horrible deep fear of groups of children/teens and running water and only a few adults supervising . Don't get me wrong, supervision is completely adequate but slightly different culture here wrt DC and health and safety. One of my best friend's has a teen in boarding school in the UK where she jokes (rather exaggerating) that he exercises in a padded gym and plays cricket wearing full body armour, and a seven year old dd here who is encouraged to abseil down the side of buildings without a helmet!

Anyway, I am rambling because I feel irrationally sick with nerves.
Must think of positive side: DH and I now get to spend four teen-free days by ourselves in the country! Who hoo!

First though, need to clear up trail of clothing and cables that DD has left behind while packing. And sort house (for fourth time this Easter ) ready to be left again.

Tally-ho everybody!

Shadycorner · 23/04/2019 05:38

Happy to hear your visit was so successful Toostressy! 👍

TooStressyTooMessy · 23/04/2019 07:10

Thanks all Smile. It wasn’t perfect by any means but of course that would never happen visiting anyone. Certainly much better than usual.

Back to school today. Both DDs still in bed; need to wake them!

SC Flowers. I think all you can do is think of the positives as you say and she will be having great, vauluable experiences.

lisette Flowers that sounds really hard in summer.

I’ve learnt something Hills then, hadn’t thought of the council relocating the bees to somewhere better for them (and is!).

Have a good day fledglings Smile.

I might try that wasp trap! Yesterday i had to chase one with a brush 🐝

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/04/2019 07:59

I've hills method works a treat.we had damson plum trees as a kid and garden sometimes was full of little blighters.we had jam jars each end of washing line, replaced as bodies took up all the space of the liquid and significantly reduced problem!
I got stung once in NOVEMBER by a stray wasp that ventured out if a pocket if my dad's shirt as I was ironing it...let's just say he went to heaven in its best pressed suit..

Tired today, didn't get to sleep til 2
Loads to do
Best get up and crack on!

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/04/2019 08:20

Lisette I guessed you were joking. Wouldn't be much of house left if you randomly throw about a flame thrower... Grin

I have a very dry gallows type sense of humour. It does not translate well sometimes. Also it is an effective enough method to prevent having to come face to face with flying wasps, as long as you don't pass out with fear from seeing the dead bodies... Grin Always a minor hiccup to a plan passing out. Wink

I was promised a thunder storm. Apparently they have changed their mind and we shalln't have it. I am sulking as I want at least a good thunder storm to cull some pollen levels and dust out of the air. I want the weather to give the air quality some flylady attention...

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/04/2019 08:21

as least a good RAIN storm

See how much I want thunder?? Grin

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/04/2019 08:21

stressy they won't and can't move bumble bees (law thingy) but honey bees they will move.

Our wasp traps will be going up at the weekend when I get time to make them.

Cagliostro · 23/04/2019 08:28

Thankfully we don’t have wasp issues here so far!

Realised DS has a party this afternoon so DD has a friend round, in future weeks they’ll be doing some work but this time they will be watching the last Harry Potter (DD hasn’t seen it yet). I need to nip to town to get a pressie really or at least cash to put in a card. So it will definitely be a very easy start to term time :o just the usual daily stuff I think as we won’t have time for much else. It was DD’s last melatonin free night yesterday anyway so hopefully we can start getting back to normal. Need to discuss stricter sleep hygiene rules with DH too.

Lisette1940 · 23/04/2019 08:37

It was the suit yourself comment that I didn't take to Hills. And no, it didn't come off well.

ExpletiveDelighted · 23/04/2019 09:09

Morning all,

Got back yesterday from a few days with the ILs which was a nice break, I managed loads of crocheting while sitting nattering with various people. All meals eaten in gardens over the weekend, no wasps yet but we did get a bumble bee in the kitchen at home yesterday, managed to evict it before the cats found it. I've tried the wasp jam jar before but it upset DD. Did a bit of garden decluttering (weeding) and two loads of washing line fried yesterday, overcast and a bit muggy today.

TooStressyTooMessy · 23/04/2019 09:45
