DH has done ALL of the washing... FFS

Today, after I put in 1 load of washing, DH decided to randomly take over and empty the entire contents of the laundry baskets and do 5 loads of washing and drying himself.

He knows it pisses me off when he impulsively washes clothes and leaves them in piles for ME to put away.

So he's put away 2 of the loads and claims he'll put the rest away after work tomorrow.

He won't.

And the clothes will crease up as they wait...

I have 2 young DCs at home and plans to go out tomorrow so I definitely will not have time to put it all away. It's all kids stuff too and will take forever! We have classes on Tuesday and so I know I won't get chance to put it away until Wednesday inbetween entertaining the kids.

I've told him I'm annoyed. He says I'm unreasonable and most women would be delighted that he's taken on the entire washing and drying for the whole house in one day.

Would you be delighted?

This would drive me batty. One load a day. Manageable, cheaper and better for the environment

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 03/03/2019 20:29

Just go and put it away now? Confused

BruceAndNosh · 03/03/2019 20:30

Poor old you.

CottonSock · 03/03/2019 20:30

Yabvu

Decormad38 · 03/03/2019 20:30

I dream of dh doing the laundry!

Michaelbaubles · 03/03/2019 20:30

Yes, and I’m not one of those with a DP who does naff all around the house either, so not of the “count yourself lucky” crew. I don’t see how putting clothes away is so onerous? DC sit on bedroom floor with Lego/toys/whatever, or you ask them to “help”, and you just get it done. 10 minutes work maybe.

Lottalove · 03/03/2019 20:30

How when the kids are asleep in their rooms? Definitely not risking that!! I am also having a relaxing bath!

Why doesn't he fold into piles now and you put away tomorrow?

DramaAlpaca · 03/03/2019 20:31

Sorry, but I'd be delighted.

ineedaholidaynow · 03/03/2019 20:32

Why is one load a day better for the environment?

Leave the clothes out and let him put them away tomorrow as he said he would

TheInvestigator · 03/03/2019 20:32

Maybe I'm being dim, but how is one load a day cheaper and better for the environment compared with a few loads in one day, if it all adds up to the same number of loads overall?

Michaelbaubles · 03/03/2019 20:32

I’ve always put stuff away/tidied kids rooms when they’re asleep. Much better to train them to sleep through household noise!

How does it use less energy and money doing one a day compared with doing them all on the same day?

Lottalove · 03/03/2019 20:33

Not a chance. Teething velcro, reflux
baby and toddler into every thing. I don't get a minute's peace at the moment, there is no way I'll be able to put it all away easily. There's a mountain of it.

Creatureofthenight · 03/03/2019 20:34

Yep I’d be delighted too.

ineedaholidaynow · 03/03/2019 20:34

When were you planning to do the laundry if you had 5 loads to do? Also how many clothes do you have, if you were going to do the loads spread over the week?

avocuddl · 03/03/2019 20:35

Hahah 'train them to sleep with household noise' Hmm

Chilledout11 · 03/03/2019 20:36

Would you not have 8 loads by Wednesday? I don't really think he is doing anything wrong.

Lottalove · 03/03/2019 20:36

One load a day. Much easier to handle I find. I then put it away in small increments throughout the day (when I nip to the loo etc) as baby is stuck to me all day at present and toddler is into everything. I have communicated this to DH a few times as I find it overwhelming otherwise at the moment with how needy the children are.

I'd appreciate that he's tried to help

megletthesecond · 03/03/2019 20:38

Hang them over the back of chairs so they don't crease too much? leave them for 3/4 day a until you get time to deal with them.

DrWhy · 03/03/2019 20:38

If it’s been left in the kids rooms and they are now sleeping then yes it’s annoying. Would have been more sensible to Chuck everything on your bed and do it together before bed, everything folded and into piles for each room.
To be honest I think it’s an attempt to help and if he’s not done anything ‘wrong’ so nothing run or shrunk then he’s doing OK. Three loads of washing looks like a massive heap but with two of you sorting it then it wouldn’t take long and you’d be starting the week with empty baskets, which surely is a nice feeling.

sackrifice · 03/03/2019 20:38

Leave them for him then.

ShirleyPhallus · 03/03/2019 20:38

All other things being equal, if DP did 5 loss of laundry I’d willingly put them away

I suspect that things are not all equal and therein lies the rub

Meet0nTheledge · 03/03/2019 20:40

I'd be pleased too. I could sort and put away 5 loads of washing in half an hour. I'm another who used to go in and do it while the DCs were asleep.
