Building our bonfires with clutter, and cruising towards Christmas, it's the NOVEMBER fledgling Fly thread!

Many of us have been here forever; it's the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. For that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are hugely welcome!

We will be posting the baby-step and flight plan (which will point you towards the current zone and missions) on a daily basis, but don't hesitate to ask further questions about the system if you have any!

More information on getting started available here (containing baby-steps!).

And borrowing heavily (again!) from Hill's September introduction...

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks

  • Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage) - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
  • Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't sound you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and tangible support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows:

** launch pad (general info)

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home)

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends)

** [[http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/flying-lessons/zones/
info about zones]] (explanation of how zones work)

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself)

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task)

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!)

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Zoo no idea if this is pertinent to your situation but this charity offers mh support to DC in schools. In particular, thought this crisis contact list may be of interest. Just happened to see a snippet about it on telly recently so please ignore if not helpful.

Hope your list is going ok Bower. Don't overdo it!

Very slow start to the day here although walked furry at crack of sparrows. Dh still feeling grim, which is just so unlike him. He has the flu back (and indeed a colleague's wife has just had flu, got better, and then it came back again so we think this must be the same bug). However, he is going back to doc on Mon.

Very slow start here. So grey and cold and overcast, it is hard to get going despite good intentions for today! We've been kept apart from dhorse by a combination of dh's illness and les gilets jaunes 😪.

On a positive note: dd decided to cook lunch for us all today, took herself off to supermarket to buy ingreds and promptly cooked and served it. So dh and I are feeling very spoiled indeed.Smile

Dd's maths tutor arriving shortly so had better look lively!

Hope everyone is having a good w/e as humanly possible!

Only in my mind sc 🎄

Staringcoat · 24/11/2018 15:41

Ok. Phew. That's allowed! Grin. How's the old/new job going? And the study?

Foxes sorry! Forgot this! Pretty bog standard mind. (Comes from one of dd's cookery books!)
"Barbecue" chicken. Serves 4.

8 chicken drumsticks
2 tbsps tomato ketchup (think I used paste)
2 tbsps soy sauce
3 tbsps runny honey
2 tbsps fresh on
1 tbsp sunflower oil (think I used olive)
1 garlic clove (can take more imho!)
1 tsp of mustard

  • Put all marinade ingreds in bowl and whisk together. Pour mixture in to large shallow dish. Pat chicken pieces dry with kitchen paper, score with sharp knife, put in dish and roll in marinade. Leave in fridge for one hour. Pre-heat grill to med heat. Lay coated chicken (uncut side up) on foil lined grill. Grill for 7- 8 mins each side. Turn and grill on other side for 7-8 mins. Turn again. Spoon over half the sauce. Grill for 5 mins. Turn. And spoon over rest of sauce. Grill for final five mins.
  • That's the official recipe fyi. I couldn't be bothered with grilling or turning though. I just bunged chicken legs in large plastic bag, poured marinade ingreds in there. (Think I added fresh thyme, splosh white wine or balsamic.) Squished bag about and sealed. Bunged bag in fridge to marinade all day. Then just put bit more oil in oven tray and cooked in oven (180- 200°c) for about an hour or more (obv depends on amount of chicken legs and oven temp and what else you have in there.) I did enough chicken legs to have cold next day, and roasted a large tray of root veg alongside. V easy!

Oh yes, I also put splosh white wine and more thyme in oven tray Italian style for flavour/tenderness and 'cos my oven is always on cremation setting!

Send husband out for a bottle of red. Going to clean living room and assemble tree to see if it fits. It usually goes in the aging, freezing conservatory but we have plans to knock it so we want to try the living room as the tree's home.

Next weekend is 🌲 decoration day.

foxessocks · 24/11/2018 16:13

Thanks for the recipe sc 🌟

FestiveForestieraNoel · 24/11/2018 16:29

Thanks SC, saved the recipe. Sound yummy.

IVEgottheJINGLEBELLS · 24/11/2018 17:11

You have a naked tree for a week? How rude.

IVEgottheJINGLEBELLS · 24/11/2018 17:12

Oh the old / new job and study is just all a massive load of bollocks

foxessocks · 24/11/2018 17:36

Uh oh ive that doesn't sound good, are you back in the old job role now?

Ta da
Went to shop
Dh wrapped presents for birthday party
Took dd to party and picked her up again
Did a few hours work
Dh made a nice windowsill box to put our herbs in 🌟
Dh cooked dinner - scampi chips and peas
Dh done two lots of washing
I folded a load of laundry and put away
Dishwasher on X 2
Put jogging bottoms in dd school bag for next week

Tomorrow I need to go to the shop for ingredients, make a crumble to take to a friend's house for dinner and finish off some work. Ds still sleeping very badly so hoping for a better night tonight 🤞

foxessocks · 24/11/2018 17:37

Oh and I ordered a new cat scratching post and a present for dd online!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 24/11/2018 18:38

Sorry I have been AWOL. Stupidly got sucked into another thread last night and seem to have volunteered to encourage MNHQ to do a thread about over zealous secondary school uniforms Hmm.

So if you hate overly strict secondary schools (in the UK, sorry SC!) come over here. If not then each to their own, have no wish to fall out!

Will be back on the thread later. DH decided to clean and empty whole kitchen today! Kitchen looks good but you can imagine the current state of things with emptied cupboards etc HmmConfused.

FestiveForestieraNoel · 24/11/2018 18:52

Ive - it's topless!! The ceiling is quite low...

FestiveForestieraNoel · 24/11/2018 20:08

Actually, it fits with the top on. Hurrah!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 24/11/2018 22:40

zoo, just seen your post on my thread thank you! Feel a bit overwhelmed with what I am meant to do next with it all. Only started it on a whim.

Forestier, fab tree.

Love the namechange Ive. It is indeed Christmas Grin.

Sounds a productive day foxes.

Bower, you’ve reminded me we haven’t heard from Cag in a while. Hope all is ok Cag?

Mixed flying day today. I have done no flying, am behind on laundry and also bought myself a new too as an extra Christmas present which I of course should not have done. Cannot spend any More money now until payday.

However, DH did clean the kitchen very well and I managed to through out two lunch bags which are no longer needed. There is now a big BRC in the kitchen which needs sorting and there is stuff all over the ining room table but hopefully it will all be worth it. Also managed to find the difficult to find toy for DD2 on Amazon so it is in the shopping basket ready to check out on payday.

I’ve done my usual trick of thinking I would get loads done but actually faffing on here and achieving nothing Angry.

Off to bed now, big wing flaps to all.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 24/11/2018 22:41

Meant to say I am ok with the December thread yes. So unless anyone wants to jump in (will not be at all offended) I’ll do it for December.

Staringcoat · 24/11/2018 23:23

That is so brilliant of you Toostressy!!!!!! HaloStarHalo. And good luck with other thread too!

Very Envy of dhs doing kitchen reorganisation/present wrapping/herb box construction!!!

Enjoy the recipe Foxes and Festive!

Sorry to hear about the general bollockness of things I've .

I have had a fat Flying FAIL today. Maths tutor didn't turn up. DH miserable because he's ill (he's a terrible patient). And DD upset tonight because she has spent too long on the Internet reading about the destruction of the Amazon basin and has convinced herself the world will end when she is 47. Even the dog couldn't put any enthusiasm in to his evening walk. Got as far as nearest lampost and he turned straight back around and pulled for home. I have had Wine

Tomorrow is another day ... .

I can’t find the soy sauce. I had two bottles in the cupboard and used up one. Looked in three boxes DH rang so I asked him and he said try upstairs in DD’s room. Well of course where else!

Anyway I couldn’t find it so did one dozen with cajun spice fresh ginger nd lime. The other similar to your recipe but chilli sauce instead of soy.

Vacuumed upstairs, sorted some washing. Taking it to son 2’s tomorrow evening and he has asked me out for dinner😯😄 will take casserole dish and give it a proper wash.

Managed to get some of my list completed. Finish the rest tomorrow hopefully. Had a bit of a rest and went to see best friend and cute grandson.

IVEgottheJINGLEBELLS · 25/11/2018 07:35

Morning all

Yes, i am back at job i was at before last christmas. Its not ideal though.

Went to a christmas thing last night, it was disapointing. Too busy and ds3 not happy at all.

I am struggling for what to buy for dd (5) and ds3 (2) for christmas. She wants everything, but a lot of it just looks like tat. Ds3 just had a birthday which makes him hard to buy for.

🎄in 6 sleeps

foxessocks · 25/11/2018 08:51

I've that's a shame about the job. Know what you mean about all the tat! Grin I'm trying to buy more quality over quantity this year but it's hard as dd mainly wants pink sparkly plastic things Grin

Well ds was sick in the night so maybe that explains the poor sleeping recently. I feel bad as I got cross with him and told him I wasn't going to come back into his room (it was 1am!) and then next thing I knew he was screaming heeeellllppp so we ran in and he had been sick Sad

So plans for today cancelled although I might take dd to a Christmas fayre later. And we are just hoping me and dh will still be able to do our Xmas shopping tomorrow as he took the day off especially. Ds was only sick once nothing since...he seems okay this morning pretty happy and eaten his breakfast.

Happy Sunday!
