Building our bonfires with clutter, and cruising towards Christmas, it's the NOVEMBER fledgling Fly thread!

Many of us have been here forever; it's the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. For that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are hugely welcome!

We will be posting the baby-step and flight plan (which will point you towards the current zone and missions) on a daily basis, but don't hesitate to ask further questions about the system if you have any!

More information on getting started available here (containing baby-steps!).

And borrowing heavily (again!) from Hill's September introduction...

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks

  • Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage) - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
  • Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't sound you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and tangible support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows:

** launch pad (general info)

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home)

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends)

** [[http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/flying-lessons/zones/
info about zones]] (explanation of how zones work)

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself)

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task)

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!)

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Oh dear SC the joys of teen angst..I was wasting hours on Pinterest yesterday and I saw a pin and thought of you "this too shall pass.i may be like trying to pass the biggest kidney stone ever, but it shall pass"

I am awake as I fell asleep on sofa and woke up cold and in need of a wee!
Now in pit I'm hoping of chance at least an hour but odds aren't favourable as Nellie and cossima are pacing around/rubbing me trying their luck for an early breakfast but I know if I surrender they will then expect to go down into front room afterwards and yowling and door clawing will follow.

Staringcoat · 18/11/2018 05:56

Urgh. Morning all!

Zoo arf at kidney stone analogy and hope you got back to sleep!

DH has heroically made toast and tea and lured DD out of bed. Yes, it's head torch, boot and jumper time again! Off out in to the dark and cold shortly to stumble around a muddy field with a headcollar and a bag of horse cubes. Dhorse, having gone half feral while we've had the flu, is definitely going to cooperate I just know it not.

Have a relaxing Sunday everyone!

danigrace · 18/11/2018 20:55

I've missed you all!!! Been wondering how you all are. Especially how your DS is getting on Zoo.

I have had a bazillion hospital and doctor's appointments and all the time I would usually hop on Mumsnet (when DS is napping) I've been working my ass off getting a work project finished which I happily presented last week and now have something else to work on. I'm too head gone to work tonight though - what should have been a 50 minute drive to my sister's took 3.5 hours bc of motorway closure and I was wedged in the 6 inch gap between two car seats in the back with bored grumpy 15 month old DS and 2 year old niece Confused

danigrace · 18/11/2018 20:55

LOVE the thread title btw!!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 18/11/2018 21:38

Welcome back Dani Smile. Bet you’re glad to have that journey over with Shock.

danigrace · 18/11/2018 21:42

Thanks girls!! I most certainly am!!
Ready to get back to the normal grind tomorrow all being well

Staringcoat · 18/11/2018 22:49

Helllooo all!

Sorry to hear you've had such a hideous weekend Foxes - there are a lot of bugs about currently - hope the DC recover quickly Flowers and that you get some rest too!

Great to have you back with us Dani was wondering how you were getting on! Many congrats on successful conclusion of work project!

Zoo oh that's rotten about dp! I have every sympathy for someone suffering from depression, but you don't have the option not to go food shopping.

Waves to Toostressy and everyone else!

Hesitate to say it when everyone's having such a tough time, but I had a fab weekend all in all! Managed not to get mown down by the entire herd when catching dhorse in the half light this morning thank heavens (was worried because farmer wasn't going to be there to help fend the others off as usual) and dhorse was an absolute angel Good bless him. His winter coat has come in fully now and he has this lovely woolly soft white and pale chestnut mixed layer on top! Dd and I couldn't stop burying our faces in it Grin. Was expecting him to be quite antsy through lack of exercise but he was a complete gent and utterly gorgeous and DD had a great hack on him 💓

Also feel chuffed because this is the first weekend in about two years when I felt we had the logistics down pat, ie we left promptly (both directions) just as it was getting dark with everything packed promptly, nobody forgetting anything, food and clothing properly organised and no traffic whey hey!

As for Flying, moved a load of chopped wood, cleaned kitchen, made cheese scones, did rubbish and recycling and bought scrummy root veg at farm shop.

Once back: unpacked car, carried dirty laundry downstairs, emptied dw, did on-line supermarket order, bought some Christmas presents on-line, served home made soup (broccoli and leek) , bread and cheese supper, tidied up and watched Strictly and the most AMAZING programme about penguins (David Attenborough's Dynasties series). One of the most amazing tv progs I've ever seen I think!!

Ive had one of those nights and to quote a friend "feel rough as a badgers arse" as D's was in and out panicking and I was so tired I managed a few words then fell asleep again so he kept coming back...

Dd1 popping in later to talk gifts and I'm toying with a slightly drastic haircut(she trilms it for me) hair currently near waist to shoulders level,so from wound up in a bun to barely scrape it up able....

SC your weekend sounds fab and you have every right to blow horns of triumph.i love hearing SOMEONE'S had a good time.tbh perks me up in my current doom n gloomSmile

Right Mondays bin day so I need get my cosy bum out of bed and make a start!!

foxessocks · 19/11/2018 08:01

sc I second that - lovely to hear about your fab weekend, you deserve it and aww what a gorgeous horse! We were planning on watching dynasties with the dc so glad you would recommend it!

Zoo sorry you had such a bad night, I would go for the hair cut it can always grow back!
Yes, dd off school today because she has diarrhoea so can't really send her although she does seem better in herself this morning. She hardly ate yesterday so we need to get her strength up too. Ds up once or twice and still quite snotty.

Dh has the day off and was going to do something with ds while I work so he's just deciding whether to take ds out and leave dd with me (I can work while she watches TV) or give up on the idea altogether and just do some DIY or something!

Consequently everyone in the household is slightly grumpy! (I'm hiding in bed drinking coffee Grin)

Need to ring the school shortly and then get on with my work I suppose.

SassitudeandSparkle · 19/11/2018 11:12

Sorry to be quiet, I am around - just posted on another thread to say I am using a timer and doing 15 minutes in each room to stay focused. Will catch up with the thread properly at lunch, back later!

Staringcoat · 19/11/2018 11:23

Aw, thanks both and I hope your respective Mondays are improving as they go along!

Foxes I 'm not sure I'd recommend penguin prog for very young dc tbh! There were bits where DD and I couldn't watch and were in tears (no exaggeration!). Suffice to say, the life of an Emperor penguin is not exactly a walk in the park and this was quite a grown up documentary. Photography and filming was spectacular though!

Hope you manage to get your work done and DD continues to feel better!

"Zoo* deffo go for swanky new hair cut! It'll give you a boost after your rough night! V fond of the Badgers arse phrase Grin !!

Ta da:
Laundry triaged
Emptied all bins and changed bags
Overnight washing hung up and td
2 more loads in
Kitchen surfaces and bin wiped down.
Made marinade for chicken drumsticks0 put together in fridge
Ordered Christmas cards!
Extra thorough s &s of bathroom
Wrapped two parcels
Walked furry who is still quiet tired after weekend!
Another Christmas present order!
Put Christmas photo of DD (for extended family) on memory stick and dropped off at developer.
Moved all of dd's books and stuff from one dining room table to the other

To do:
clean downstairs lav
hoovering
more Christmas prep
more in boudoir

Can't believe I'm saying this but having felt perfectly fit all w/e, I seem to have a bit of flu back; the virus that keeps on giving ... ! Eyes and ears and throat hurt again! Bugger!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 19/11/2018 13:07

Morning all. I agree it is lovely to hear about nice weekends.

Agree with SC foxes. I think if you watch with DC you will need to be ready to fast forward. I watched it and it was excellent but hard going at times. They are very much showing nature as red in tooth and claw.

Go for the haircut zoo!

I saw that other housework thread Sass but feared I would just end up posting and not doing anything!

Ta da:-
Ordered one of DD1’s Xmas presents online
Got gift box for my parents’ present so that is their main present bought now.
Went to a physio appointment
Calendar check
15 mins decluttering. Unfortunately didn’t actually get rid of much but did go through out of season coats and hoovered the bottom of the cupboard.
No gym on physio orders so had a bit of extra time to declutter today.

To do:-
Lunch
Prep tea
Make packed tea
School pick up etc
