Many of us have been here forever; it's the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. For that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are hugely welcome!

We will be posting the baby-step and flight plan (which will point you towards the current zone and missions) on a daily basis, but don't hesitate to ask further questions about the system if you have any!

More information on getting started available here (containing baby-steps!).

And borrowing heavily (again!) from Hill's September introduction...

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks

  • Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage) - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
  • Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't sound you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and tangible support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows:

** launch pad (general info)

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home)

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends)

** [[http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/flying-lessons/zones/
info about zones]] (explanation of how zones work)

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself)

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task)

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!)

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

I am on a go slow

HillsBesideTheSea · 14/11/2018 14:51

No idea, maybe it has joined mine and gone on a jolly. I am still in bed. Hmm

Staringcoat · 14/11/2018 14:53

Glad not just me then....

FestiveForestieraNoel · 14/11/2018 18:41

Damp dreich day here. Headachy. Got more presents. Our cleaner in work became allergic to alcohol and chocolate after having her first child so I picked up megapacks of Golden Wonder crisps which is her preferred poison! We give her chocs and wine for her household anyway.

Have not touched the bathroom and other room. Researching kitchen on Pinterest though!

foxessocks · 14/11/2018 19:21

forestier I love golden wonder crisps our local pub sell them they are lovely and thick much nicer than walkers controversial

I've just spilt my g&t down myself AngrySad which sums up my day Grin

Stressy I didn't know about their delivery pass but tbh I usually use Asda or Sainsbury's I just wanted to use a Tesco voucher! I'll just use it in store instead but thanks anywaySmile

Ds has been a proper grump all day today and then I got a call this afternoon from dd school to say she had fallen over at playtime and hurt herself quite badly so I had to pick her up. It's just cuts and bruises and a bit of a bump on the head but she's been fine for the rest of the day so we are just keeping a close eye. I also got stuck in three separate traffic jams today! Just one of those days but we're all fine now, everyone fed and in bed Grin

Ta das
Dishwasher on / emptied
Washing on / hung up
Laundry folded and put away
Rang vets - anti procrastination!
Paid boiler service bill
Handed in dd flu spray form
Tidied toys away upstairs and downstairs
Cleaned out the kettle
Cleaned the knife block, oils tray etc
Cleaned a kitchen cupboard out and the doors
Cooked dinner - lamb steaks , mash, roasted parsnips and carrots
Cleaned kitchen and table after dinner

Also attempted to remove orange stains from Tupperware but it didn't really work. I used bicarbonate of soda , hot water and white vinegar as per Google...does anyone have any better ways of doing this?!

I'm going to go and eat chocolate biscuits and drink Brew now. The dc are quiet which is a miracle.

foxessocks · 14/11/2018 19:23

Btw toostressy I like Sainsbury's nectar cards for points as around this time each year they do double up on points you apply for the vouchers and essentially have one week to spend them. So for example if you have £10 of points it becomes £20 for one week. You can save them a year but can't double up to more than £200 I don't think. I don't find Tesco clubcard very good anymore either.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 14/11/2018 20:45

Oh thanks, I do shop in Sainsbury’s as we have a local one in the town but might look into changing to them for online too. Always seems such a hassle to change though!

Bowerbird5 · 14/11/2018 21:02

Foxes I have had tea and cake now I want GIN!
Hilss Ah I hadn't thought of that. Mine gone on the jolly too.
Waves to FFNoel Is it you that has the Everhot? Dreich is such a good word. And throrn I learnt that in the Highlands.
Right I have had to pour one for medicinal purposes. Dh postpone that he's been on the phone checking up on me. Had I gone to view the worktop again.YES!

So this Nectar point thing. I go into Sainsbos and ask how many and get it doubled and then I can spend them is that right? I have a card but never cash them in.

Meet0nTheIedge · 14/11/2018 21:16

Bower, yes but it finishes in the next few days. You go to customer services, see how many points you've got and then can get vouchers wirth double BUT they can only be spent on non-food items, you can't get change from them etc. You really need to get the leaflet. My technique is to get my balance from the app, get a scanner, fill the trolley with eligible stuff till I reach my total, go and get my vouchers, get any food I need and pay using the vouchers. Go when it's quiet! I've had a lot of free stuff over the years with this as I do 90% of my shopping and petrol at Sainsbos.

Bowerbird5 · 14/11/2018 21:31

Cheers Meet i will call in tomorrow. I used to go to Tescos but it is on the other side of town to where I work. I have to travel to any actually but S is nearest my work or the CoOp on the way home in a larger village. I tend to go to independent shops now we're just one or two to feed not the massive two hour shop with kids in tow.

I need some new things for my new kitchen. Pans but they must be magnetic. Maybe get some oven proof dishes although i do have some.Need to think this through.

foxessocks · 14/11/2018 21:41

Yes it ends this week bower and I'm not entirely sure you can still do the double up bit , I think deadline for that was Sunday then deadline for spending vouchers this Sunday? I might be wrong though! I have some more points I could double up so I might have to check!!

foxessocks · 14/11/2018 21:47

Funnily enough I've just read a few articles about the nectar double up and how it's over the top complicated which I agree with and apparently Tesco do a similar clubcard boost thing but I haven't heard of that!

Meet0nTheIedge · 14/11/2018 22:18

I was still getting vouchers today, I think the whole thing ends on the 18th. It is complicated but they have simplified it A LOT since last time (I'm a veteran). I came out of Sainsburys with 8 free bottles of wine and prosecco this week, plus a load of household stuff, so it's worth persevering!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 14/11/2018 22:19

Yes, they do clubcard boost where you can boost the value of the vouchers but not in Tesco itself or on Tesco direct which doesn’t really exist anymore (eg 3x their value at Goldsmiths is the one I can remember).

It’s easy to use but it is nowhere near as good as it used to be. I used to use it on clothes and toys where you could double the value and I got so many clothes for the girls there. Florence and Fred (Tesco) clothes are good value anyway so with double the value it was great. Same with toys. Neither of those are options anymore which is a bit shit Angry. Unless I have u limited jewellery to repair or buy or I want to do lots of experience days and meals out... which frankly with kids I do NOT especially as none of the restaurants are very near us Angry... then they are not what they used to be Sad.

Rant over! You’ve reminded me though I might see what pizza restaurants there are on there now as I could take DDs over Xmas or half term if we go into the city centre.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 14/11/2018 22:20

Free wine you say Meet ShockGrin?

Meet0nTheIedge · 14/11/2018 22:25

Indeed! It's only Taste The Difference wine though. After a frustrating time combing the shelves last year (the TTD stuff is scattered amongst all the rest) I twigged that they all have purple neck collars. That makes it easier to spot!

Hello. Better day here. Not due to tablets I’m sure (far too early) but just not as bad as the last few.

ta da
✅laundry
✅DH did some errands including putting dryer back together with spare part... seems ok...
✅cut DS’ hair while we watched greatest showman
✅hung out wet washing
✅showers all round
✅minimal home ed
✅bathed baby
✅got baby in bed at a decent time after bath, she did wake up later (just got her asleep again so will take her back up in a sec) but at least it gave me time with DS while DH and DD are out.
✅visited new temporary ice rink on way home and found out about season tickets. I reckon it is going to be worth buying these for the Caglets as the rink is in the park next to our house! Literally five minutes from our house to the reception desk :o worked out they’d need to skate fifteen times between now and January 20th, I’m pretty sure that is possible, so we are trying it this year with some of the money dad gave me.
