Building our bonfires with clutter, and cruising towards Christmas, it's the NOVEMBER fledgling Fly thread!

Staringcoat · 30/10/2018 11:59

Many of us have been here forever; it's the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. For that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are hugely welcome!

We will be posting the baby-step and flight plan (which will point you towards the current zone and missions) on a daily basis, but don't hesitate to ask further questions about the system if you have any!

More information on getting started available here (containing baby-steps!).

And borrowing heavily (again!) from Hill's September introduction...

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks

  • Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage) - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
  • Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't sound you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and tangible support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows:

** launch pad (general info)

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home)

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends)

** [[http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/flying-lessons/zones/
info about zones]] (explanation of how zones work)

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself)

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task)

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!)

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Good luck cag

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/11/2018 18:31

Made tuna Bolognese for lil zoo and ds-sub out mince for can tuna...went down a storm and was super quick!verdict...loved it

Cagliostro · 12/11/2018 18:32

Well I’m bringing co-op gluten free Yule logs (omfg amazing and not just the normal “not bad for gluten free” type thing that DH normally has) and Paroxetine to the naughty corner 🤔

Worth a try anyway, feel a bit calmer for having talked to the doctor who was lovely and patient and listened (and wasn’t horrified when home ed came up in convo - in relation to the lack of support there is for the Caglets’ needs)

I went to tae kwon do with the others as didn’t want to go home alone. Saw them get their new belts as they passed their gradings :)

Cagliostro · 12/11/2018 18:33

That’s good zoo I sometimes sneak some tuna into tomato pasta as DS doesn't like fish 😳

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/11/2018 18:53

I have rampant fish lovers(not dd2 of course, but she did used love it pre veggie days)sardines,tuna,salmon...even smoked haddock they just shovel it in.ds likes the easy to eat texture

I've eaten some truly vile gf stuff whilst lil zoo was on her exclusion diet and attempts bake gf were...interesting....

Im having cod with tomato crumb topping(shop bought) roasted new potatoes and broccoli, squash, mushrooms and green beans(did lovely homemade soup for lunch)along with dp.dd2 having a lentil stuffing burger(nicer than it sounds)with the potatoes and veg

foxessocks · 12/11/2018 19:35

Evening!
Sc your dd definitely sounds like she's testing some boundaries! Well done for staying firm with the technology. How old do you think she'll be when you let her have it in her room at night? (I'm genuinely wondering as I have no clue about such things, my dc obviously too young for all this! I am storing these things away for future use)
Cag good news re doctors , sounds like a useful appointment
Zoo tuna Bolognese sounds interesting I've never thought of that. We love fish here too, dd especially has always loved it.

Well it's been a busy day here as I work on Mondays and have to go backwards and forwards collecting the dc and try and fit the home bleugh in too (I know I could do it on another day but tbh I find it easier to blitz it when I finish work but before I collect the dc!). Dh has a day off tomorrow though so possibly be more restful! Maybe I can skip the school run in the morning!

Ta da
Worked
Cleaned bathroom
Dh hoovered whole house when he got in
Mopped kitchen and bathrooms
Dusted
Emptied all the bins
Got rid of loads of boxes in recycling bin
Washing up
Dishwasher on
Washing on
Hung washing up
Folded laundry and put away
Cooked dinner - leftover gammon in tomato pasta with home made garlic bread
Changed all the towels etc
Got dd swimming bag ready for tomorrow
Given dc supper, showers and put them to bed
Got my mum to pick up few bits from shop Blush luckily she was taking ds to the shops anyway!
Got stuff out of freezer for tomorrow's dinner

Food shopping coming later but it's only a small one so won't take long to put away. The rest of the evening will be spent reading my book and possibly watching some line of duty which me and dh have just got into. Is anyone a fan?? We are only on series two and I have to say I'm totally confused by the whole thing. Maybe I'm not clever enough for it!!
BrewBrewBrewBrewBrew

Cagliostro · 12/11/2018 20:06

Oh I liked line of duty. I started when s4 was on then went back and watched the first three when they were on iplayer. I do find that sort of thing very confusing though, I always get muddled about who is on what side of the various conspiracies and bribes or whatever. I got a bit confused at the end of The Bodyguard for the same reason. I am watching Killing Eve at the mo.

SassitudeandSparkle · 12/11/2018 21:20

I complained only this evening that I was fed up of reminding DD to do her homework. I have made her revise for a test tomorrow (briefly) then said she could look through her notes for the homework due this week and then made her get in the bath!

Lots of weather here today, really heavy rain!

Need to do the washing up and some ironing tonight Did manage two loads of laundry today and DH cooked the tea while I picked up food for DD.

Didn't get much sleep last night and I don't think the two cups of coffee I've had today will help much tbh. I am yawning though!

Bowerbird5 · 12/11/2018 22:57

Hmmm! Seems like this mornings post hasn’t kposted.
Waves to everyone.
Very tired now. Will have to post tomorrow.

Staringcoat · 12/11/2018 23:04

Late surge ta da:
2 x more laundry
dog walk
sorted DD school trip admin
hung up laundry x 2
emptied dw
cooked supper
tidied kitchen
rubbish and recycling
sorted imminent clean pant crisis!
quick walk with rain avoidant furry who refuses to wear fetching doggy macintosh!

It's endless isn't it Sass? Even with one DC (although we have it easier than others on here I know). It feels like ground-hog day most days! It definitely gets easier re: hwk and personal hygiene but then other "challenges" crop up to replace those Grin!

Good question Foxes! I've no idea! As I say, I thought we were getting there wrt tech at night issue, but no longer! Will let you know though Smile.

I probably give opposite impression when posting about DD on here, as I'm inevitably venting about some conflict or other. Yes she's definitely testing boundaries but she is I reckon a fairly typical teen for her age. Very well behaved and helpful at school. Nice friends. Very kind hearted underneath the angst with good intentions. Great focus when she needs to have it! Funny and imaginative. It's just something goes a bit awry for a bit in some teens when the hormone cyclone hits! Honestly, it's quite surreal sometimes!

Hope those of you with younger DC won't be too worried about adolescent period anyway! Having spent a bit of time around dd's friends, I think the teens of today are generally much nicer and kinder to one another than we were back when I was at school anyway, and they definitely have a much stronger sense of fairness and social justice. Which is all good Smile]

Foxes meant to add that an incredible list of chores you have ploughed through today! Star

Snap re: cod tonight Zoo! We had it with mash and peas.

So glad gp was supportive Cag

Mahoosive wing flaps to everyone else!

Thanks for listening to my whinge earlier. Tonight has been much more peaceful and relaxed, DD was told yesterday that telly was going off at 9 from now on and she was ok with that and was in bed not much afterwards. She's a total telly addict at the moment. I got quite a lot of paperwork done tonight if not much housework. She is delightful a lot of the time but definitely knows which buttons to press and is obstinate takes after her mum.

On teen angst front the zoolets are lovely really too, just testing boundary's with those who have to take it!!
Foxes it DEP on the child.dd2 knows no phone at night but D's and lil zoo cannot be trusted to put it down and leave it.tech has to be taken and hidden in evenings or sneak back to it in night!!

I need to get up,just realised lil zoo pe kit in wash machine and she has pe today.ooops

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 13/11/2018 09:28

Morning everyone, I am off into the city centre to do some Christmas shopping (mostly research / thinking Grin but have a few little things I am definitely going to buy if they are in stock). Realised it makes much more sense to go now childfree so that I can physically get the stuff instead of risking an online order. Also DDs and I have seen some Christmas decorations that would be perfect for my mum and dad online but want to see what they look like in the flesh. If they are ok I will get them. They don’t want clutter presents but do like Christmas decorations and don’t have loads so it isn’t clutter... I think? Anyway, if I can get them that will be one present sorted and I will get them some food and drink bitlcallg if I see anything that would suit.

Ta da:-
Dishwasher on
Talked to

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 13/11/2018 09:30

Sorry MN was being weird and not letting me do anything in the text box so I pressed post so as not to lose it.

Ta da continued:-
Talked to DDs about what they could do to help in the house. MUST get better at this. We are going to start a chart. I am not optimistic!

To do:-
Christmas shopping (sorry to those who hate it!)
Laundry
Have awkward after school pick up today due to clubs etc so not looking forward to that. Tuesdays are meant to be our easy day!

Big wing flaps to all

Staringcoat · 13/11/2018 10:14

Good morning!
Work day here whilst listening to Brexit news and following Brexit threads and basically stressing about Brexit.

Before work ta da:
emptied dw
overnight washing in td
fed wms again

OP posts:
Stilllivinginazoo · 13/11/2018 11:26

Tada
Dry pe kit
Feed cats
Littertray
Wash on
Breakfast and pack ups
S+s bathroom
Wash in dryer

Forget bastarding pe kit AAAAAREEERGGGGGG

DP decided he fancied walking to town(drives everywhere so enjoys it as an occasional thing.me I do all f-ing time and would've appreciated luxury but no,a 45min walk each way,and bags to carry it was leaving me with really bad hip and back pain

Sent him to pick up D's(on foot as he took him in whilst I did the hour round trip drop lil zoo)

Still to do bake part bake rolls for lunch
Local food shop(bread, school lunch bits as wasn't willing drag them all the way from town)
Ment be attending church cafe meet but I'm tired and grumpy and not feeling myself.think I may skip and go to bed this afternoon despite this being a very bad thing mentally
How many more days til do clears off back home/to work?(answer wed lunchtime.feels like forever away)
Drop girls at fun and faith group later
And return to collect
Dinner tonight- med spiced lamb(rosemary, cinnamon and nutmeg)with mushrooms and carrots in it.rossted broccoli, squash, courgette and asparagus and couscous with parsley and flaked almonds.dd2 has spicy baked chick peas and cashews to replace the meat
Need make the (raspberry) jelly and add tinned peaches so it sets in time for dessert

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 13/11/2018 11:45

Your tea sounds lovely zoo.

Just finished attempting to shop which has taken up the whole morning as I expected. Need to be productive on the bus journey back so it isn’t a complete loss.

Presents bought: one stocking filler for DD2
Time taken: over 3 hours Shock

Remembered yet again I HATE city centre shopping. Just end up unproductive, hungry and grumpy! Going to stop off in town on the way home and check the shops there for decorations as there might be a couple.

The decorations I was going to buy for my parents are really not what I expected so luckily I didn’t order them. Trying to see the positive!

Going to see if I can declutter some emails.

Brexit implications very concerning, I agree.

Staringcoat · 13/11/2018 12:14

Yes, that supper sounds yummy Zoo! Hope you can rest up a bit this afternoon.

Sorry your shopping was such a wash out Sass. Would your parents go for a food gift/hamper instead maybe? Or maybe a voucher for a trip out for afternoon tea or something?

HillsBesideTheSea · 13/11/2018 17:38

I had a choice whilst I was trying to eat breakfast of an article about how biodegradable wipes aren't and are clogging the sewer system or Brexit. I decided it was all just shit and turned the tv off. It was putting me right off my breakfast.

Crap day, feel like crap, must look like crap as the boss boss suggested to take time off if needed. I suspect life and my to do list is not going to allow a rest though.

foxessocks · 13/11/2018 18:42

hills yep, I pretty much avoid all news. I can't deal with it!!

Sorry Xmas shopping not so good stressy I fear my experience in a few weeks time will be similar! In my head I picture me and dh ambling round the shops and stopping for a seasonal hot drink. In reality it will probably be a mad rush and arguing!!

Ta da
Been for a run - it hurt today!
Meal plan for next week
Washing on
Washed net curtains
Hung up washing
Folded washing and put away
Cooked dinner - piri piri chicken, home made chips and corn on the cobs
Bought myself a few new jumpers which j desperately needed
Tidied toys away
Dishwasher on
Cleaned up after dinner
Dh is currently wet vaxxing downstairs 🌟
Dh filled in forms for dd flu spray

And we also went to our first parents evening! Dd seems to have settled in well and they said her true character is really shiny through now - not sure how to take that! Grin They are going to keep an eye on her hearing for us too but think it was down to congestion as seems to have improved.

To do
Online food shop for next week, I attempted it earlier but got half way through a Tesco order as I had a voucher and then realised how expensive their delivery costs are Shock never knew how different the cost was between supermarkets.

Have a lovely evening everyone!

Staringcoat · 13/11/2018 18:42

Hills no option sadly but to watch the shit show when one's livelihood and residency status depends on the outcome, but I can see why fatballs and Brexit are a potentially indigestion-inducing combo in the morning! Grin. Hope aches and pains diminish pronto. (And boss sounds fab.)

Ta da:
"work" work
stressing about Brexit ALOT
dog walk

That is all.

Currently prepping supper late (pork with red pepper and onion thingy) and need to prep DC's school shirts for wash.
