OK so maybe not new and improved exactly... but a more slimline, concentrated version!

Huge thanks to Hills for guiding us so slickly through September Flowers Cake Brew!

Many of us have been here forever; the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine chat and mutual support along the way. For that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees and (intermittent) regulars are hugely welcome!

We are not posting links to the Flylady site on a daily basis anymore, just the daily baby step and flight plan, and the missions and zones on a weekly basis, but don't hesitate to ask questions about the system if you have any!

More information available here and from the launch pad here.

And borrowing heavily from Hills September introduction ... .

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks

  • Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage) - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
  • Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's.

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and tangible support from fellow fledglings.

Cagjust lamb mince,onion/garlic(either or both) diced courgette/mushroom(DEP on what your lot will eat)saute til meats browned.drain off any excess fat.add 1tsp dry cumin,1/2 TSP dry mint.stock to cover.simmer 20mins

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/10/2018 15:24

Or so.we serve with pasta but equally good as base shepherd's pie😋

Cagliostro · 03/10/2018 15:38

Yum :) thanks, is that like cumin seeds, or powder? I’m so clueless 😳😳😳I don’t really use herbs or spices due to my fussy lot but cumin is used in a lot so would be worth buying.

Oooh I also antiprocrastinated and ACTUALLY EMAILED A DENTIST

foxessocks · 03/10/2018 15:44

Well done re anti procrastination cag.

My brother sent me a message to talk about what we are doing for my mum's 60th in January so we have got some plans underway now - I wasn't procrastinating about it exactly just January is always a bit forgotten because of Christmas but it's a special birthday so needs more planning than usual! We also organised a meal out without the dc with brother and sil instead of buying Christmas presents for each other which I think is a fab idea!

Also ta da
Checked dining table and no clutter anyway
Decluttered in porch - sort of. It's still being decorated so a work in progress really. Lack of funds always delays us with these things .

To do
Hang washing out
Cook dinner - chicken tikka masala
Tidy upstairs

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/10/2018 15:53

cag good work on the dentist front-end I know how hard that is for you!!Star
I tend use dry as no buts to pick out if anyone's having a fussy day😏

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/10/2018 15:54

Missed your post foxes
That's a great idea about Xmas meal!!

stegosauruslady · 03/10/2018 16:22

Ta daas...my whole list. Including chivvying the DDs to take their stuff upstairs.

Daal and rice here for tea tonight, fire is on and I have knitting ready for while my friend's 2yo is over for the evening. Plan is to let the DDs entertain him until he gets sleepy, then put him to bed on the big beanbag in the front room ready for when his parents get here at about 10ish!

I have had the fire lit today, so the house is toasty...however, hoovering the hall, stairs and landing at 6 months pregnant means that I am now far too hot.

foxessocks · 03/10/2018 16:42

Ta da
Made lemon tarts
Messaged company re mum's birthday
Given dd more Calpol as she started crying again Sad now that means she can't have it before bed but hopefully this dose will allow her to get to sleep, early bed anyway I think. She's very tired from getting up so early.

Still need to hang this washing up! I'm doing everything except that!

Cagliostro · 03/10/2018 17:10

Have you got any children’s nurofen foxes as that can still be given when she’s had the calpol and may be useful for a top up if she is still in pain later.

Email from dentist said to phone them but that’s a step too far all in one day 😳😳😳

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/10/2018 17:44

One day at a time cag
Foxes kids ibuprofen can be alternated too(and is recommended by doctors for really bad earache as allows doses every few hours in daytime).if have any I'd add some at bedtime.poor little bean.i really hope she's feeling better tomorrow

Pop out to collect more A4 paper dd2 needs(at her school GCSE work is expected go into a4folders self provided)
Picked up a vanilla milkshake for her(still has bad throat.multiple colds going round her class and she's having them back to back) and more plastic wallets

I really CBA cooked dinner,but I must

Cagliostro · 03/10/2018 17:53

Ooo I need to buy paper too. I’ve used up my 100 pages for the month already 😂 it’s ok though as during the trial I get up to 300 regardless so trying to print as much as possible in advance. I got one of those expanding folder things from Poundland to store it all in.

Rowan keeps kicking the football (well, walking into it so it moves, but it’s quite deliberate) it’s ridiculously cute. I can’t wait to buy her shoes. I’m being sensible though and not getting the gorgeous patent buckled ones as they’ll scuff in no time :( but they’re SO CUTE :(

foxessocks · 03/10/2018 19:13

cag I love patent shoes but have never got dd any as I know they'll scuff so quick so she basically just has trainers and wellies (and school shoes now!) She has had a few pairs of party type shoes over the years but I tend to just buy them when needed!

Thanks for advice re ibuprofen I didn't think of that. I think we've only got Calpol though. She perked up a bit after dinner and has gone to bed fine so fingers crossed.

Stilllivinginazoo · 03/10/2018 19:39

When dd1 was little my then partner worked for griggs and she had factory seconds (with discount) doc Martin's in nursery❤️my favourite were blue ones with santa faces and a pair covers in smartiesGrin
I never bought patent any of mine.i notice these days getting harder to find school shoes that don't have any tho...

DS ate spoonful dinner face flushed into a panic attack and that was all he ate...now sit in bathroom floor crying😢

Thankfully lil zoo like it and scoff hers down(I'd expected him start get stressed as about this time night he starts worrying about tomorrow) so she had lion's share of what I'd cooked!

Must sort dinner for dd2 and I now(do gone bed as tired from so much overtime) or I may be tempted to faceplant any chocolate/sweets on the premises and call it dinner!

Cagliostro · 03/10/2018 20:13

Mindfulness exercise that might help:

He has to list things (say them out loud to you if possible) in the following order.
Five things he can see (as in right now from where he is sitting)
Four things he can hear
Three things he can touch
Two things he can smell
One thing he can taste

Not foolproof but has sometimes helped DD calm down a bit by the time she gets about halfway through x

danigrace · 03/10/2018 20:25

Zoo oh no big hugs! Has this been going on for a while with your DS? How old is he? Hope you manage some decent dinner and rest Flowers Those boots sound amazing! (As do your bread rolls)

Foxes I hope DD sleeps okay and feels a bit better tomorrow. Lemon tarts sound lovely!!

Cag ahhh that's so cute!! How old is Rowan? We got first shoes a couple of weeks ago, the cruisers from Clarks, he's properly walking now and it's become too wet to let him play out barefoot Blush And most of my issues (also a collection!) are "invisible" too (Ehlers Danlos Syndrome - a connective tissue disorder that means my joints are loose and painful and dislocate easily; POT syndrome - bouts of uncontrollable fainting; Crohn's, and bladder issues), what do you struggle with? (Only if you don't mind saying)

Steg I hope the babysitting goes well!! What are you knitting? We need to light our fire to burn some of our paper clutter I've launched in there!

Sass thank you for the welcome. Enjoy your game time!! Smile

Bower thank you. Yes I very recently was awarded higher rates of pip and said to my DH oh we can get a cleaner back now and he said yes if you feel we need it and it made me realise hmmm everything is actually fine at the moment since I got back to flylady!! BUT we have hired an ironing service which is a big help.

I managed to get through my list and am in bed with clothes for DS and I laid out for tomorrow, nappy bag packed, dishes washed and away, sink shining Star

Cagliostro · 03/10/2018 20:33

Aah I also have POTS! Not severely enough to faint thankfully, I have collapsed in a heap before but never lost consciousness. Also have fibromyalgia and ME. A lot of friends have EDS, it sucks :(

She will be a year on 25th. 😱 Must get her pressies.

I feel like I’ve done fuck all today. Just faffed online. And tomorrow will be so tough, I hate Thursdays. Going to try a different route home which involves more walking but means we should get home earlier as bus times didn’t work out last week. I won’t mind this so much in summer.

danigrace · 03/10/2018 20:43

Ah no way Cag. Yes it isn't fun is it?? I heard that EDS often gets misdiagnosed as fibromyalgia and ME as in many people they can be quite similar (the EDS also giving pain and chronic fatigue). Do you go to the hospital much? What happens on Thursdays? Or shouldn't I ask...
Oooh exciting 1st birthday!! I think I remember our pregnancies overlapping

HillsBesideTheSea · 03/10/2018 21:02

The great pie debarcle continues. - don't ask. I now hate pie. Thankfully it will be a very long time before I need to make more because I fucked up the quantities. But also not sure I have space in the freezer because I fucked up the quantities Hmm

FIbro, cfs and hypermobility here. Fuck knows how I function, it baffles me most days and then I flare. I am due a mahoosive flare, pay back for all the things. I am dreading it.

Taking a nap and will be up early to finish the pie, and to get ds to finish his homework before school.

Cagliostro · 03/10/2018 22:32

Oh no hills why do the other debacles always happen when heading into flare up mode too? It’s not fair is it.

I’m doing ok physically atm but mood is dipping quite low today, not sure if that’s down to hormones (ridiculous period seems to be on the way out thank goodness although what is now light is probably what I’d have classed as heavy before this pregnancy 🤔 so may have a couple of days yet 😡)

I’ve spent hours and hours faffing online and feeling guilty at lack of productivity but not actually doing anything about it

ta da
✅got to art class
✅chose shoes for baby (will measure etc another time)
✅print a few more maths sheets and activities for a live online lesson tomorrow
✅did a few bits of home ed with Caglets but not nearly as much as we should have
✅put clean bedding and towels away
✅got DS to dry his washing from yesterday
✅had some ideas for home ed projects
✅nice chats with friends
✅anti procrastination Wednesday - emailed two dentists, one has NHS spaces so now need to get courage up to ring them
✅ordered Tesco
✅remembered to take vitamins

I’m tempted to curl up on the sofa with a DVD rather than go to bed

Spreadingcudweed · 03/10/2018 23:01

Hey chaps!

Hats off to those of you ploughing on through with such debilitating health conditions; I really don't know how you do it. Life is hard enough frankly!
Star Star Star Star Star Star Star Star Star Star Star

Hills I now have an image in my mind of you sitting in your kitchen surrounded by stacks and stacks of delicious pies Grin

Zoo so sorry to hear your ds is finding things such tough going poor lad Bear

Steggy hope the toddler-sitting went well; what a lovely friend you are to watch him when you have so much on yourself.

Bower glad you are feeling so much better! I am certain I will feel just as anxious when dd leaves home and goes travelling Flowers

Foxes oh dear sorry to hear your dd's earache hasn't improved. Poor wee thing. I hope you all get some sleep tonight! How lucky you are to have a brother who initiates/participates in organising celebratory events! Bit of a bone of contention this with my db! Always left to us female siblings!

Hope you and your dd had a lovely time this evening Sass!

Yay to Cagletini and football prowess Cag! Grin Good luck tomorrow!

Zoo/Cag lots of cumin and tumeric (ground, powdered variety) used in this household - lots of health benefits apparently - as well as tasting yummy! Loads of ras el hanout too! (V good with lamb and cous cous and in soups.)

Dani/Foxes/Cag I have dd's first pair of shoes stored in their original tiny box up in the roof. They were navy blue with little red cherries on the buckle! Smile

Encouraging wing flaps to anyone I have missed!

I'm feeling very chipper tonight having had a lovely dose of dhorse today. Bless his heart. Spotted us, whinnied, came galloping at full tilt over the field to see us followed by his herd. (Quite an impressive sight as he's a well-built boy and the ground actually shakes as he approaches!! Grin) But he makes me laugh because he is a bit more reluctant if he clocks we are wearing jodhpurs and carrying a headcollar the blighter!! (And people say horses aren't intelligent!!) DD was standing there (on other side of fence) with bucket of treats and he chivalrously defended her from the others ok so he may have wanted the treats all for himself and he put his huge enormous calm head inside my coat and rested it there (at which point heart melted) ok so he may have been looking for more treats. I bloody luffs him. Breaks my heart every time we are separated!! Oh and his winter coat is growing back in (we've decided to leave him unclipped as he is no longer stabled) and it's so fluffy and soft and I swear his shape is so much better since he has been living out and having a more natural existence. He actually looks as if he is "growing younger" tbh! Trouble is, so is his behaviour when ridden Grin Grin.

Had meeting with architect which was ok but he seems very busy so god knows when he will be able to focus solely on our project. Also saw plumber who is trying to get the water pump going so that we can reconnect water supply to outside privy, ancient greenhouse and water troughs in field which would make life a lot easier.

DD and her boyfriend joined me by train/taxi for the afternoon (school half day here on Weds and dh travelling) and they had a good time dashing around on bikes in the country lanes and skate-boarding around the courtyard and they reluctantly helped me pick walnuts. Should have seen the look on bf's face when he realised that I was intending to run him back to station in my car (two-seater) and that he would have to endure 20 min conversation interrogation by yours truly. Every bashful 16 yr old's lad's nightmare, poor boy grin] Grin Grin Grin Did take them both out to café for a nice lunch though so I'm not that horrible really, honest!! Also picked up some tack we had ordered from saddlery.

Encouraging wing flaps to anyone I've missed!

I have done naff all Flying today. Put wm and dw on before I left this morning and still haven't emptied either Blush. Must go to bed. Meant to finish Monday's list today but will just have to add it to tomorrow's action plan, gah! Still it was worth it having got to see him with the kind eye, long and furry face and chompy soft muzzle Grin.

boudoir bed
gynae appt
towel wash
cooking for weekend

Bloomin' 'eck where do the days go?

OP posts:
HillsBesideTheSea · 04/10/2018 05:09

No idea SC
Wouldn't recommend sitting on the floor in the kitchen atm it is in dire need of post cooking blitzing Hmm
Off to shove pie batch 1 into freezer and then cook pie batch 2 before work.

It is always the the way though isn't it cag it's like the flare knows or it might just have something with the burning the candle at both ends and the middle to try to resolve the debarcles/chaos/crazy

I still have no proper voice, my sinuses still blocked and my breathing is still an issue Hmm I expect to be completely bed ridden this weekend - potentially sleeping most of it.

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/10/2018 05:09

Actually being bed ridden and sleeping the weekend sounds amazing right now Blush

Spreadingcudweed · 04/10/2018 05:58

Sorry so many have health conditions that are ongoingFlowers

Glad it's not just me up cooking in the dark hills (oven baked falafels for dd2 lunchbox I promised yesterday then forgot about and as promised would never hear end of it of failed to deliver!!)
Got plums that skins had wrinkled up stewing too for tomorrow's yogurt and granola breakfast(aka money's tight til Sunday and milk supplies are critical thinking up another option that won't decimate remaining bread)

SClovely stories, esp dhorse❤️how long will walnuts keep?hope app goes well gynae today

Must crack on!!
