OK so maybe not new and improved exactly... but a more slimline, concentrated version!

Huge thanks to Hills for guiding us so slickly through September Flowers Cake Brew!

Many of us have been here forever; the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine chat and mutual support along the way. For that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees and (intermittent) regulars are hugely welcome!

We are not posting links to the Flylady site on a daily basis anymore, just the daily baby step and flight plan, and the missions and zones on a weekly basis, but don't hesitate to ask questions about the system if you have any!

More information available here and from the launch pad here.

And borrowing heavily from Hills September introduction ... .

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks

  • Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage) - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
  • Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's.

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and tangible support from fellow fledglings.

Obviously I'm going to chuck the food in the oven not the freezer Hmm

Cagliostro · 01/10/2018 18:09

So it's not ice cream for dinner then I take it? Shame :o

I spoke too soon saying things were improving. Currently curled up on the sofa, I am at least getting a load of printing done, finding maths drills and Japanese resources mainly (I have up to 300 sheets a month during my Instant Ink trial, after which I get 100, so making the most of it!). Wondering how much harder/more expensive it was to home educate before the internet :o

DH has done loads of laundry today so we are catching up.

Cagliostro · 01/10/2018 18:13

Sorry I posted without reading properly, foxes I'm sorry you feel crap. It's a time of big change, not just for DD! And I hope it doesn't sound trite (not meant to as I experience it myself on a grand scale) but the change in weather can have a horrible effect on emotional health. Thanks

foxessocks · 01/10/2018 18:58

Thanks cag you're right about change in weather. And honestly I would have happily had ice cream for dinner!!

MN's new cookie/access policies has pissed me right off. They have made things compulsory that no other website I have come across has made compulsory. Things that I would NOT give permission to. But no permission no worky of the website AngryAngryAngry

Ds is better today. Kitchen is not. To do list is not. fuck it all.

Spreadingcudweed · 01/10/2018 21:41

Hey I've! Hope working week started ok!

Sorry you are feeling low Foxes; I agree with Cag the change of seasons/light levels can really affect one's mood, especially after such a hot summer! Also, the relentlessness of broken nights and being in charge of small dependents is very draining Flowers. Sounds like you might need some time to yourself to go out and have a break?

Sorry you are feeling ill again Cag but good work re: the printing! Ink cartridges are extortionate and, having gone through many , I think the home office and professional office printer trade is all one big humungous rip off imho!!

I am shattered and heading for bed! Have been busy all day cooking and hauling paniers of laundry about. Made a good dinner though (even if I do say it myself) which should keep dh fed for two day (here's hoping). Roast pork (which I didn't cook for Sunday lunch yesterday), potato, carrot and turnip layer thingy with thyme and garlic, onion gravy, broccoli. Also made a squash and red pepper soup for weekday lunches and banana & oat and chocolate chip cookies for dd's lunch box.

Other than that will list tomorrow but 4 loads washing done and hung up to dry, towels and pants folded, and two more loads washing on timer for tomorrow morning.

Also decluttered two huge piles of papers/junk mail that have been sitting in the hall since the summer Blush while watching University Challenge (and scoring only 2 marks while dh scored 10; grrrr).

G'night all!

X post Hills

I agree the cookie thing is a bit of a pita. I just pressed "accept" (gulp) was that wrong?

[Backs slowly away from fire and toasting fork.]

Cagliostro · 01/10/2018 22:45

It's ridiculous TBH, as I don't even like the insane heat we had this summer. But the lack of light does things to my brain and I dread the clocks changing. Must make sure I continue my vitamin D.

I'd not noticed the change in cookie thingy, what is it they've asked?!

Signing in quickly as my ipad/phone charger is not working and I don't like MNing from the laptop.

But ta da

I seem to be doing anything except Flying at the moment, life is crazy busy. I am meal planning though, which is unlike me, and it definitely helps. Need sleep now.....

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/10/2018 05:53

SC he's not improving sadly.in state walking in lil zoo.epic anxiety by time got his school.they couldn't do anything with him.came home.told chase cahms app.four week wait was cahms response.look up headspace for breathing exercises...school aren't bother he's missing education"not like it's year 10/11"(GCSE)felt both frustratedly angry and deflated
Dd1 visited drove us to lil zoo eye app at hospital(been discharged woohoo)
Hunt decent scissors, then dd1 trim zoolets hair.22cm off D's,27off lil zoo that we've sent children's cancer charity.dd2 hair wasn't long enough to send, but trimmed also
Trip to dd2 school for lil zoo secondary school admissions meeting.as expected D's was nightmare of anxiety.traipse home cold and stressed as getting dark

DS got up again stressing as I try sleep

Thank goodness we don't bother celebrating my birthday or I'd have melted down over stresses on "my' day.dp still working stupid hours.im past caring

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/10/2018 05:55

That sounded very depressing.aorry for bringing thread down
Pulling big girl pants up so high peeping thru knicker elastic😂

Spreadingcudweed · 02/10/2018 06:07

Oh no Zoo that sounds absolutely awful for him (and you) poor lad. A four week waiting list must seem like an eternity. I wonder if the labrynthitis triggered this? I must admit I felt very anxious when I had my version of it (like you couldn't trust your own body any more) an,d it was really quite frightening at times when the room was spinning really badly. I don't know what else to say but if it is that, I hope he can regain his confidence soon Flowers

And many belated but heartfelt happy returns for your birthday yesterday (is that correct?) Bear Cake Flowers so sorry you didn't have a better day though.

Welcome back Ledge! Smile

Waves to Cag and to everyone else!

HillsBesideTheSea · 02/10/2018 07:49

I am beginning to think organised is an illusion to other people Zoo I got told I know things and was terribly organised yesterday, yet today I have been running about like a headless chicken that is up shit creek whilst the paddle is still in the coop. Hmm

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/10/2018 08:03

I feel I need to say that analogy made me Grin hills that is a very major achievement at mo.congratulations and cheers for that.x

stegosauruslady · 02/10/2018 08:22

Gods zoo that all sounds rough. I hope this week goes a lot better for you from now on.

I am returning after a weekend of little flying, but quite a lot of fun. New fire is purchased (being fitted on Thursday), kitchen facelift should then be ready to go (if we ever find an electrician who doesn't charge ridiculous prices for tiny jobs!). This means that I have a lot of extra jobs to do this week. We also went to see a fireworks competition and spent Sunday playing our nerdy pirate campaign board game with our friends...six hours of solid board game is not for everyone, but its our favourite!

To do today...

Swipe bathroom (done)
Laundry
Food shopping
Re-arrange some tutoring work as it clashes with my GP appointment
Post important letter
Get back room ready for fire fitting
Make final decision on kitchen
Daily mission
Drop DD2 and DD3 at circus
Dinner
Dishes

HillsBesideTheSea · 02/10/2018 08:57

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 02/10/2018 09:17

Hello all. Thank you so much for the busy September thread Hills CakeFlowers and thanks for starting this one SC.

Determined (yet again) to be a bit more organised this month.

Ta da:-
Nothing yet

To do:-
Gym
Morning routine
Work through to do list of lots of little tiny things - quite a few things to order on the internet (including a belated birthday present Blush) so need to sit down and do that
General tidy up and would like to do some decluttering in the study
Tackle the laundry mountain
Change sheets
Phone my parents

After school:-
DD1 needs help with some homework so I have told her we must do that when we get in. DD2 has a token amount of homework so going to hope she will sit and do that or at least be happy to sit and do something while I help DD1
Figure out tea etc

Soothing Brew for all of those in need of it.

Bowerbird5 · 02/10/2018 09:26

Good morning,
Sorry I missed you yesterday.
🎂zoo belated wishes. Nowadays if birthday (we don’t make a big fuss about b’days) I just think ...glad I have had one. Last year found out when I said to someone I was going to visit old friend that she had died about 5 moths ago. I was hadn’t bothered to tell me. Perhaps a reason I should join faceache. So be glad you are alive the alternative is not good! It does help to think like this as you get older. Do something lovely this week.

Sc don’t mind your long posts as we all do it at some time. I enjoy reading them. I imagine you and your life, juggling one to the other house and admire your ability to cope when things go wrong.

I to get organised too. This house is a tip. It is interesting having a fractured arm to see how little others do in the house. Some washing has been done but is living at the bottom of the stairs, including towels hmm wonder where they go? Meals have been made. Some excellent. DD cleaned kitchen very well on Saturday. Bed duvet has been thrown over . I’ve cleaned bathroom, cooker hob and sink area because I couldn’t stand it. Argh why can’t they step up.
Ta das yesterday
Two rBcs sorted and stuff in folders or files. Working on a bag a day when I go back as I have such a varied timetable. See one class and then don’t go back for a week. So thinking four bags and one for own things like pencil case, scissors, stapler, staple remover, a wad of paper.
Only have three bags to go.one very large two small. All in hall at the moment. Plan to take back and hope to leave some somewhere at school since I lost my little room it is a nightmare. I really don’t want all this crap at home. Nurture stuff can go in filing cabinet I hope unless that has disappeared while off and if it has I will be very upset and probably resign.
Today
RBC to sort
Dentist for filling, old one fell out eating a polo.
Coffee with friend and quiz member. We came third last night but high score and only four of us. Our music guru wasn’t there.
DH going back to work train at 4 pm
DR appointment not sure how I will get there. See what he says about going back to work though mentally I don’t feel up to it. I feel daunted by this term. Changes are being made and some have taken place while I have been off. I hope I will get laptop back as that will help. I have no access to planning just now.
Summer house isn’t arriving until 10 th which means DH won’t be here to help and DD wanted to help furnish it and she won’t see it for a year😢 at least. Houdini is still escaping. We need a cam on her to see how she does it. Now have stones around fencing and fence 6 ft in parts.
See SC long posts. 😁 sorry

Bowerbird5 · 02/10/2018 09:31

Sorry about missing text iPad behaving weirdly.

1st para
Birthday s crap
I was cross sister didn’t tell me.

I want to get organised

Hills I ‘ m still bloody coughing that is four weeks now, also immune probs.

Spreadingcudweed · 02/10/2018 10:28

Grin Bower!! Thanks for your kind words - very cheering - I don't feel I am coping really but I am trying to muddle along!

Very Angry on your behalf that you are not getting more support and help at home when you need it. That's the difficult thing about housework and delegating etc ...other people may do a tangible discrete task like wash towels but then don't do all the things associated with that task ...ie put them away properly, or distribute them around house, take old dirty towels away to be washed, tidy up shelf or place where they are kept, chuck out frayed ones or keep in a separate place for dog. That's just one silly example really but housework is made up of a million tiny tasks that one does automatically and others don't think about and are too numerous to quantify. (Which means we don't take any credit for them because no one notices them being completed.) Anyway, it sounds like even the major tasks are not being done for you currently which is not on and I'm so sorry work situation is so stressful currently too Flowers.

I hope your doc appt goes well and good luck with BRC attack.

I know it's not ideal re: summer house arriving when everyone else gone, but could it be an opportunity to decorate and arrange exactly as you would like so it becomes your place of escape and calm? I can just imagine you sitting at the entrance drinking a glass of elderflower cordial with HPenny scratching around contentedly nearby! Grin

Sorry, now I'm rambling again. Filing and updating information manuals at work today and it is boring as hell. Had better continue though!

Good luck with all your busy days too Toostressy Hills Steg Zoo and with your lists! Encouraging wing flaps to everyone else!
