OK so maybe not new and improved exactly... but a more slimline, concentrated version!

Huge thanks to Hills for guiding us so slickly through September Flowers Cake Brew!

Many of us have been here forever; the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine chat and mutual support along the way. For that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees and (intermittent) regulars are hugely welcome!

We are not posting links to the Flylady site on a daily basis anymore, just the daily baby step and flight plan, and the missions and zones on a weekly basis, but don't hesitate to ask questions about the system if you have any!

More information available here and from the launch pad here.

And borrowing heavily from Hills September introduction ... .

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks

  • Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage) - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
  • Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's.

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and tangible support from fellow fledglings.

foxessocks · 24/10/2018 19:24

The crystal sounds like a great idea zoo something for him to focus on.

Ta da
Deep cleaned fridge
Cooked dinner - cheesy meatball pasta bake
Cleaned kitchen after dinner
Tidied toys
Put laundry away
Dh collected ds car seat and picked up loaf of bread and got dd her black paint (anti procrastination she has wanted it for ages strange child!)

Unfortunately dh didn't succeed fixing windscreen wipers as ran out of time but he knows what the problem is now so can do tomorrow. Which does mean I had to cancel day out tomorrow but hopefully we can do it on Friday instead. I don't want to take the car out without windscreen wipers it was really annoying this morning and could potentially be dangerous I guess there's a reason it's an MOT fail!

I think we are getting better at this bar the days we all feel crap.
I do think posting on here helps because no one at home ever says the house looks lovely, despite a busy day you have a great dinner on the table etc. However, we each appreciate each other and that encouragement goes a long way.

Zoo I also just clean cat food off the side of the fridge. This will make you 😬 I was sweeping floor when I stepped sideways right on the cat litter tray luckily I had scooped the large poo earlier but the rest of the widdly cat litter went all over the floor. Aargh! Why is it when you are trying to tidy up you do something to make more mess.🙄

Took stuff to school but couldn’t get into gate and couldn’t get anyone to hear buzzer. Lights were on but nobody home.so still in car. Went to Hospice shop and asked about electrical stuff. Yes they take it but not cooker. However told me who might so will ring them tomorrow. I will miss that cooker racing green and brass handles onoven but new one will be much loved in winter.

Ta Da
Vacuumed downstairs, stairs and rug in bedroom as need to swap plugs by then and came down with load of washing. Taking 5 mins.
Dishwasher loaded throughout day now on.
Sink shined and tea bags etc binned. Won’t miss that sink and leaky tap. Getting Belfast one with copper/brass tap can’t remember which.
Tidied up pile of school crap.
Worktops wiped.
General tidy around.
Right off to get DHfrom train.

Bowerbird5 · 24/10/2018 19:36

We knew what you meant zoo😬

Slitheringcorpsefeed · 24/10/2018 20:08

Wow - great lists on here - very well done everyone Star Star Star

I do agree Bower and it's great to hear so thanks for posting that Smile. I find house-work so tedious and lonely and "unacknowledged" without this thread and the encouragement from everyone (no one honestly notices or gives a toss in my gaff tbh!) I wish I was one of those people who could find self-motivating satisfaction in having a clean and tidy home a rare event but I'm just not! Smile

Parsnips is a fab idea thank you Zoo! Sorry they were so unhelpful at library; just what your ds needs NOT!! Crystal sounds lovely! I always carry conkers in my bag for when I am anxious nowadays and used to have a lovely moss agate stone that I have mislaid when I was anxious as a child.

Trying to discover boudoir here too Hills; tackling it every so often but it keeps getting messy! Hope the keys turn up! Did you find the recipe the other day btw?

Foxes don't worry, every infant has to go through their black period Grin

Waves to Honu I've Meet Sass Toostressy HauntedForestier Dani Steggy and loads of others I have missed!

Well not a terribly fun afternoon/evening as school managed to organise parent-teacher slots and dd class theatre trip on the same
night tonight! OK so theatre trip a bit later but still a bit of a pain logistically back and forth and trying to fit dinner in and picking up friends etc. Anyway, anyway, saw teachers (and engaged a new maths/chemistry tutor in process - yippee - although all very clandestine because teachers aren't encouraged to tutor on the side so was trying to whisper in French out of the corner of my mouth and the poor woman couldn't understand a word I was saying! Grin). Was grabbed by titulaire and thanked profusely for donated apple juice which was nice too. Have just dropped dd off at Molière play poor love (although I was more enthusiastic about it when talking to her in rl obvs!!) . I loathe driving in to town at the best of times, especially at night. And I have to go and get her at 10.30pm and its cold out there (whinge). Oh dh why did you choose this week to be away? (Also school day trip on Friday which will involve driving dd to coach at 6am and collecting at 10.30 pm again grrrrr) But seeing as he isn't here... do you think it would be very extravagant if I got a cab....[mmm SC strokes chin... he wouldn't approve normally but while the cat's away etc etc ..mwah, mwah, mwah.]

Hope everyone is having a lovely evening!

Slitheringcorpsefeed · 24/10/2018 20:15

Sorry Zoo obviously I didn't mean to cross out the NOT there! Meant it was just the reaction your ds DID NOT need!

And embolden fail there too around your lovely quote Bower

HillsBesideTheSea · 24/10/2018 20:23

Evicted some more dust bunnies, keys did turn up but the teenager might not make it through the night AngryAngry

HillsBesideTheSea · 24/10/2018 20:26

Should add room is still ressembling the site of several bombs but at least the crud is going even if the clutter is being dumped back in the mean time. Less and less clutter going back each time which really helps.

looking forwards to getting the last load of washing in the machine, taking some pain killers, making a hot water bottle and going the fuck to bed. Yes the alarm goes off at 5:30am but bed is soooo appealing right now, spasms in my back muscles most of the day. Hmm

Did I tell you I picked up a new outfit for my trip next week when I picked up cloths for the growing weed? It gives me the happy. And it looks really put together so really chuffed with it.

Slitheringcorpsefeed · 24/10/2018 20:39

Ooohhh sounds nice Hills! Bit of retail therapy always lifts the spirits!

Stilllivinginazoo · 24/10/2018 21:00

Good to see you putting yourself first in line and a treat that makes you feel good hills

I won't talk about my boudoir suffice to say it's chipping away each month but still a hovel of clutter, half of which is in the not mine but where to put it stage...

Sc I'd get a cab

foxessocks · 24/10/2018 21:52

Get a cab definitely sc don't even feel guilty for a second!

Sounds great hills Smile

My friend is going to come to us instead tomorrow as I am car-less which is lovely but I do now need to clean up and bake something by the time they arrive!

Bowerbird5 · 24/10/2018 23:18

Thank you SC

Ta da
DH now snoring 💤 🛌
Collected from station but he wanted to go and watch Liverpool game in town. I thought the DS1,2,3 were going to meet him there but oh no and because they were winning he wanted to stay for second half. Then stop for a carry out on the way home. So the 8 pm pick meant I have just got to bed.

Another one to say get a 🚕 SC.
Education sounds interesting over there. I really love the snippets of people’s lives on this thread. We’re an interesting bunch that’s for sure.

DH decided on the way home that we should buy another car when we retire. A Mercedes! I asked him if he has a secret stash of money 💰 somewhere. This is on top of telling me in the pub that he is going to buy a 🏍 bloody recycled teenager. I don’t know how many he had on the train but his imagination is running riot. We’ve got a secondhand Astra at the moment and very glad I am to have it.
He also thinks I will be disappointed in the amount of money I will get if I retire early. Eh no I know it won’t be much.

Slitheringcorpsefeed · 24/10/2018 23:27

Thanks all, I did get a cab in the end on the grounds that I could honestly say "I drove DD to the theatre" Wink and more fool me, DD LOVED the play, said it was hilarious and we must all go! Who knew Moliere was so popular with teens eh? (Btw, I realise I'm making dh sound like a tightward - it's not a money thing (although cabs at night are ££££ here) - it's more of a ducking out of driving thing, particular re: his car.

Ta da cont'd/..
Parents afternoon/early evening
DD theatre there and back (plus two friends outward journey)
Cleared and wiped down dining room table
Decanted leftover soup and pasta in to bowls and in to fridge
Tidied and wiped down kitchen surfaces
Stacked dw
Paper & cardboard recycling
Emptied kitchen bin/wiped down/new liner
Separated tangled duvet covers and span separately
Prepped tiny canvas with gesso

Slitheringcorpsefeed · 24/10/2018 23:33

Sorry you were on chauffering duty tonight too Bower! Hope your dh doesn't have too much of a fuzzy head in the morning!

I simply must finish boudoir before half-term hols Zoo so am with you there!

Have a lovely time with your friends tomorrow Foxes and hope prep not too onerous.

Bugger. I am wide awake now!

SassitudeandSparkle · 24/10/2018 23:34

Need to pull on my positive pants tomorrow Grin

DH seems to be feeling better, DD has plans for me tomorrow (I have similar plans for her homework tbh) so may go out, may play a bit and may get her to work. Half-term is running away with us, been lovely so far.

My own DD fell off the bed many times Blush as a toddler.

Oh that's good your dh is feeling better Sass; enjoy the rest of half-term hols!

Cagliostro · 25/10/2018 00:45

ta da
✅went to Asda twice
✅washed new Tupperware to get rid of plasticky smell
✅rinsed new Tupperware to get rid of washing up liquidy smell 🙄
✅lots of walking
✅made dinner
✅slow cooked a huuuge stew, just portioned it up in fridge (with note on door requesting DH puts lids on in the morning and shove them in freezer
✅got baby’s presents wrapped, this involved the Caglets drawing on paper as they used too much on the first two and we ran out of the only non festive paper (having a December birthday I refuse to use Christmas wrapping paper on birthday presents)
✅made some plans with other people for various things
✅cried on DH, turns out DD has been left out of something and I am heartbroken for her, and pissed off. It says nothing about us and everything about them (long, outing and complicated) but kids can’t be expected to understand this shit and it’s just plain not nice. On the upside finally realising that others had been feeling the same has been quite liberating. But I’m sad and I really didn’t want to spend my evening feeling like I’m back at school. They are coming to baby’s birthday thing too and I have to just suck it up and pretend not to be hurt as hell. It’s not deliberate really just thoughtless.

Gaaaaaaah.

Anyway. Happy birthday Cagletini. She is finally asleep next to me on the sofa. I shall spam the thread with photos tomorrow.

Aaaaaaand just as I type that she’s woken up. Fucksake.

Cagliostro · 25/10/2018 01:07

God sorry about the above please ignore. Just annoyed and probably hormonal so everything seems worse. 😳😳😳

Bowerbird5 · 25/10/2018 03:40

But it is fine to tell us when others aren’t quite what they seem. I hope DD is ok.
Happy Birthday 🎂 I cant believe you are 1. 🎂her too as she was born on DHs birthday he is 65 today.

Stilllivinginazoo · 25/10/2018 05:55

Happy birthday cagletini🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂where did that year go?I clear remember squishy new baby photos
It's ok to feel sad for DD.some people are just thoughtless buggers who won't give it any rumination or worry unlike me.i. Hate thinking I might've done something like that, esp to a child

Drawing on paper reminded me of the Xmas dd1 was almost 2. We potato printed roll of lining paper with Xmas trees ,angels and various other Xmas shapes to wrap gifts for others with.she loved it(pity lining paper so think some items were tricky to wrap)

Bower birthday wishes to you midlife crisis man.motor bike and Mercedes eh?hope he's not expecting these as gifts and also that he's not hung over and grumpy today!

Lil zoos turn Monday!eeek.need try buy her couple bits today sneakily whilst out n about as DP in unreliable phase....same old same old.oositive pants hoik high and off we go!!

Slitheringcorpsefeed · 25/10/2018 06:41

Good morning all! [SC hangs bunting in naughty corner and starts icing fairy cakes.]

🙌🙌🙌🙌 Many happy returns to Cagletini and to your DH Bower! 🙌🙌🙌🙌. Hope they both have lovely days!

Can't believe that Cagletini is one already!! Wow, that went quickly didn't it!?! And please don't apologise CAG it's awful when children are left out. Hope your dd is ok.

Sorry to hear your dp being less than helpful again Zoo. Sad

Just waved off DD. Time to get cracking! Have a good one everyone! Cheery wing flaps to all!
