OK so maybe not new and improved exactly... but a more slimline, concentrated version!

Huge thanks to Hills for guiding us so slickly through September Flowers Cake Brew!

Many of us have been here forever; the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine chat and mutual support along the way. For that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees and (intermittent) regulars are hugely welcome!

We are not posting links to the Flylady site on a daily basis anymore, just the daily baby step and flight plan, and the missions and zones on a weekly basis, but don't hesitate to ask questions about the system if you have any!

More information available here and from the launch pad here.

And borrowing heavily from Hills September introduction ... .

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks

  • Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage) - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
  • Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's.

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and tangible support from fellow fledglings.

foxessocks · 21/10/2018 10:13

cag I find sleep is the key to everything!

I slept well until 5am then woke up with a very dry throat then couldn't get back to sleep properly. I think my eyes feel tired because my head is so bunged up. Determined to make it to the pub for lunch though!

Cagliostro · 21/10/2018 15:53

So sorry the new job isn’t working out ive but I agree if there is such a fundamental difference then it’ll never work long term. Great you’ve had other offers, I guess things will be better financially if you can bear to stick it out until something else is there to go to.

I’ve definitely had a better day so far but I am worrying about getting out for milk as most shops will be shut. Baby slept for ages and is now grumpy so didn’t want to put her straight in the buggy. Wanted to go into town for a bit, actually we could get a different bus home and get off at the small Tesco (small enough to not abide by Sunday trading, so it’s open late unlike other nearby supermarkets).

DH and I started having The Talk (that sounds like a break up talk, which it definitely isn’t) while DD watched the baby. I told him my idea of having a bedtime routine, we have tried this before but always failed in the end. However what I realised is that by expecting to manage the same thing every day I’m putting way too much pressure on myself because DH works lates. So what we need is two routines. One for the nights he’s here (and can divide and conquer with one to one time etc) and one for the nights he’s not home till 10.30+. I have also decided that on those nights I will make the effort to actually go to bed and sleep at the same time the Caglets go rather than waiting up for him.

We’ve also talked a little about morning routines and I’ve finally finished the long cupboard. I had been faffing around trying to decide which drawers etc. But all of them now have a place in here or the toy storage upstairs, with the spares put by for the old Ikea unit that is in the shed. So hopefully we can sort that soon.

Attached is said long cupboard, yay! (The black and rainbow thing is my Tula BTW dani :o)

Stepping forward in October: the new look fledgling Fly thread.
foxessocks · 21/10/2018 16:32

cag that looks very tidy!

Went to the pub for lunch, had one glass of wine and now can't seem to move from the sofa Confused . I think wine + cold was not a good combination.

In other news after talking to dh about my recent anxiety / bad pms I've decided to start running , I'm going to attempt the couch to 5k. And now I've said it on here that's it I've got to! Grin I think it will help my overall mood, space from the kids, time to think, exercise and fresh air. I'm not going to start until this horrible cold had cleared up though.

Cagliostro · 21/10/2018 17:45

It’s tidy for now foxes :o I’m just hoping we can prevent it getting too awful as everything has specific drawers (we do have a laminator so I may do labels) and I hope by being strict about unpacking bags etc that there won’t be any old crap bunged in there... famous last words...

Well I managed to get baby sorted (including post poonami clothing change) and still get to town in time! Walked super fast and did three different shops (nappies milk and DVD to watch with DS). Then managed to get the last bus (as it’s a Sunday there are hardly any) back up the hill. Fucking shattered now. Bunged some freezer stuff in the oven but also have experimented with roasting some cauliflower that was knocking around the fridge.

danigrace · 21/10/2018 19:19

Well done Cag sounds like you had a very successful day. I hope you aren't too sore tomorrow. Lovely Tula! And cupboard! Talk sounds very productive, and great idea with the two before bed routines.

Foxes I hope you enjoyed your wine chill!! Have you ever done a couch to 5k before? I did a couple of years ago before all my health issues. I won't lie it was HARD, especially the first few weeks, I thought there was no chance on this earth I will ever run 5k if the week 1 "easy" routine made me feel like I might die. However, eventually (took longer than the prescribed time bc I repeated weeks) I could indeed run 5k and actually really enjoyed it and looked forward to getting out to run Shock Sorry that was long - hopefully it can give you a bit of help in the hard start, totally worth it, hang on in there. You CAN do this!!

Zoo how was your movie afternoon? I hope you all had a nice time and your evening isn't too stressful Flowers

Well done with your list Ive. Wishing you a job you love Star Re. the autumn "bits" I made a front door wreath (well added lots of bits to existing wreath) and it looks pretty cool.

  • morning routine
  • took DS to see my parents and sister and went to look at the Christmas stuff in the garden centre Blush
  • returned home complete with big dish of chicken and veggie casserole with dumplings from mum Halloween Grin
  • nappy laundry load
  • changed sheets
  • after dinner clean up
  • before bed routine
  • currently tucked up in bed with sleeping baby, really hoping he doesn't cough himself awake all night again!

Hope everyone has a fun & productive week!

foxessocks · 21/10/2018 20:41

Thanks dani I appreciate that - it's good to know! I haven't done it before , I've never even been running as an adult , pre kids I played badminton regularly and gym / swimming that sort of thing. Post kids I've only done pilates / yoga / occasional work out DVD or you tube video at home! I walk a long way every day for the school run but at a snails pace as I have toddler ds with me Grin . I like to think I'm reasonably fit but we'll soon find out!! I'll report back...

Love the idea of an autumn wreath btw!

HillsBesideTheSea · 21/10/2018 21:48

It is a well known fact that we lie to ourselves about how fit we are.

Tempers are more than a little frayed over the topic of homework. Balls have been dropped and picking them up involves a lot of shouting, some grounding and us both sulking in our bedrooms. Halloween Hmm

Ta da
2 loads of laundry
ran a few errands
took a bit of time out
did a bit of studying - but not enough

Alarm is set for tomo, I have lost my car keys Halloween Hmm so am considering just taking the bus and dealing with it when everything has been done. Crazy talk as it will probably chuck it down and our bus services is unpredictable and unreliable.

Everyone fed, no one murdered for being a teenager/parent. It counts as winning right?

Slitheringcorpsefeed · 21/10/2018 22:20

Hey all! Well done with your very impressive lists everyone!

Foxes good luck with your new exercise regime! Hope you feel much better soon!

Cag great work on the hall area! And top marks for power shop!

V respectable list there I've Star. Sorry the job hasn't worked out as anticipated but good you have other options.

Dani Love the sound of autumn wreath and your ma's chicken casserole with dumplings! Hope you and your family have a better week this week!

Hope you had an ok day Hills, sounds as though you needed a rest rather then another long "to do" list after yesterday's.

Zoo Star and 🐎 🐎🐎 to your ds for getting to church and park, despite him finding it difficult! Love the sound of his "horse oats" down thread btw!

Bower sounds like you and I are on the same sleep schedule! Smile

Cheery wing flaps to everyone else!

Cosy mother-daughter weekend took a turn for the worse this morning as I'm afraid I was a total witch mother. Turfed DD out of comfy bed very early and "strongly encouraged" her go riding despite her having bad menstrual cramps. I felt awful doing it but (a) these particular specialist lessons are ££££ (b) instructor is much in demand, comes from a long way out, takes a while to set up and (c) is big on "commitment". Took a while to coax her (and duvet and toast and tea and hot water bottle and feminax ) in to car and nearly turned back at various points. Let's just say there were strong protests to which I responded that I wasn't exactly enjoying driving in to a low sun with sinus headache and we all have to do things in life when we're not feeling 100 per cent. It wasn't the best of experiences to put it mildly but she enjoyed the lesson in the end and improved a new skill. And I allowed myself to be persuaded to stop at the golden arches on the way home so retrieved a few brownie points I hope. Nothing else done except quick visit to dhorse (this particular lesson isn't on him), Mass & Strictly, help with hwk, house therefore a total pit!

Cagliostro · 21/10/2018 22:25

Definitely hills :)

ta da
✅finished cupboard!
✅put a wash on
✅DS put his clothes away and decluttered a few bits
✅sorted out where each Ikea drawer is going (we’ve only had them 3 months...)
✅fast walk to town (I would never deny how very unfit I am :o) for milk and nappies - pissed off though as Boots size 4 is MASSIVE compared to Tesco size 4 and there’s no way they’ll fit! Luckily we have a couple of the old ones left but will have to go to the shops tomorrow
✅started to have The Talk with DH, made some notes on routine ideas for mornings and evenings
✅read THE MOST BORING BOOK EVER to DS (marvel avengers crap)
✅played chess with DS, thought I was kicking his butt but we ended in stalemate

Got to upload shopandscan barcodes and go to bed. Will try and think up something nice to do tomorrow with DS and DH in the morning.

Slitheringcorpsefeed · 21/10/2018 22:36

X post Hills

I don't have to lie about my fitness levels; I know I have the vigour of a corpulent slug! Grin

Oh and I came close to being murdered by my teen today as well. But we both survived so a definite win I'd say!! Smile

Hope the car keys turn up!

Oh btw Zoo roasted pumpkin is for inevitable soup (very boring I'm afraid).

Slitheringcorpsefeed · 21/10/2018 22:40

Xpost Cag great list, especially for a Sunday! Star

SassitudeandSparkle · 21/10/2018 23:28

I have been away for a couple of days (IRL, not just MIA from the thread but that as well) which was fun, but now have some catching up to do. Will be out for most of the day tomorrow as well which won't help.

DH has some tests tomorrow so have booked DD on a half-term workshop, will drop her off first then sit at hospital with DH and take him home, then go back for DD later. Drinking wine tonight to help me cope with tomorrow! Will definitely sleep as I am shattered!

Will catch up with the thread tomorrow night, here's to a good week everyone!

Slitheringcorpsefeed · 21/10/2018 23:32

And to you Sass hope the hospital tests go well!

foxessocks · 22/10/2018 06:34

sass hope it goes alright at the hospital today.

Sc it sounds like you did the right thing especially if she did enjoy it in the end.

Ds has been up since 5.30 I think he has earache he has been pulling his ear and saying it's itching. He has also asked me to take his ear off Sad. Horrible when you can't do anything to help. He's meant to be going to my parents with dd later so I can do a few hours work. I'm going to give him some Calpol in a bit and see how he is.

I'm so tired! Think my cold is starting to get better but a few hours more sleep would have really helped.

Sorry, grumble grumble!

Slitheringcorpsefeed · 22/10/2018 07:21

Good morning all!

Foxes no wonder you feel tired! And your poor little ds wanting to detach his ear Sad. Earache is the pits!

I've just added to the kitchen chaos by cooking DD pancakes with bananas and maple syrup this morning (for the first time this year, it looks so dark and miserable outside). I hardly dare jinx myself but I think I actually feel better - whey hey - and have a full day to myself until 4 30 pm without even the furry to look after (he's taken his tiny suitcase and stripy swimming trunks to stay with his furry friends and trainer/dog-sitter for a few days) and I intend to get seriously stuck in to housework. Have to do a few hours work too so had better get stuck in.

Ta da:
carried washing g down
gathered in mugs, cups and mugs from around house
emptied dw
stacked dw
fed wms x 2
emptied out riding kit
folded pants and towels

To do:
work
home bleugh (including extra thorough s & s of bathroom)
packing up of parcel and several cards
continue laundry
make pasta sauce
make soup
baking?
make apple compote with last bag of apples
tidy and clean of bathroom
put away clean laundry
1 hr in boudoir
power walk/exercise
French study
start new creative project
set up various appts

Slitheringcorpsefeed · 22/10/2018 07:26

Oops!

ta da cont/'d ...
one more drawer of art cupboard decluttered
paperwork!

Have a productive day everyone!

IVEgotthePUMPKINS · 22/10/2018 07:30
