OK so maybe not new and improved exactly... but a more slimline, concentrated version!

Huge thanks to Hills for guiding us so slickly through September Flowers Cake Brew!

Many of us have been here forever; the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine chat and mutual support along the way. For that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees and (intermittent) regulars are hugely welcome!

We are not posting links to the Flylady site on a daily basis anymore, just the daily baby step and flight plan, and the missions and zones on a weekly basis, but don't hesitate to ask questions about the system if you have any!

More information available here and from the launch pad here.

And borrowing heavily from Hills September introduction ... .

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks

  • Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage) - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
  • Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's.

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and tangible support from fellow fledglings.

Sorry to hear more sickness with DC oh Dani poor you 14 moths old and both ends poor little soul.
Everyone sounds very busy with DC who are well.
Cags well done re dentist.
Zoo think I would have been exercising vocal cords too sometimes a good rant helps. I hope they take notice.
My house is staying tidier as it is just me but the wrist is really painful and is very restricting regards housework. It even hurts to wash up. I have just moped the floor in two sessions oh my it was filthy. It didn’t look it but the water says different. I had to put a third of water to rinse the mop between first and second session!
I’ve done half the bathroom & toilet. Need to do shelves but can’t face taking everything off maybe later. I have photos, ornaments, pottery fish the boys made and pretty bottles of bubble bath( presents) in a little alcove. It would be quicker and easier not to have it but it would look boring.
My back has ached all morning after a session of acupuncture. Pain before the gain.
It has stayed dry most of the day but chilly so I put the wood burner on at lunch time. The cat is pleased.
I gave the kitchen a good clean. It looks much better.
Off to put dinner on. See what is in veggie box which just arrived.

Bowerbird5 · 17/10/2018 18:34

Super news re cancellation zoo hope something positive comes out of app.🤞🏻

Cagliostro · 17/10/2018 18:56

I just unexpectedly antiprocrastinated by getting my sling out. Basically I absolutely adored the first sling I had and used it lots but then she outgrew it and I couldn’t get on with the new one so gave up. But have decided to try in the house for brief periods and actually she was quite happy. Friend visiting tomorrow and I’m hoping she can show me how to back carry properly as I think that’ll be useful if I want to do stuff like washing up

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/10/2018 19:02

Well done cag for anti procrastination
Take it steadybower(I've not washed my kitchen floor since before workmen were im...on my too do.its guna need hand n knees scrubbing...

Bowerbird5 · 17/10/2018 19:31

I just mopped it.
Going to put the Lakeland drying rack out and hang washing. Still haven’t bothered with dinner. I need cat food so might nip into town get cat food and take away. I really don’t want to go I can’t believe we got through that much cat food. I should have bought two. I nipped to Lidl on the way back from school and before GP yesterday and never went down that aisle and never thought. I’m not used to having a cat to feed. About eight years since we had one.

danigrace · 17/10/2018 19:38

Zoo sorry school wasn't so good today, but sounds like forward progress being made overall?

Foxes glad to hear you're feeling a little better, your cakes sound lovely!

Cag oh no poor DS. I wonder what the difference is with the infant and 6+ calpol?

danigrace · 17/10/2018 19:47

Pressed post too soon!

Bower it sounds like you've got loads done! Go easy on yourself though especially if you are sore.

Cag what sling do you use? We 100% have baby carried from the start, didn't even get a pram. My sister bought one and never used it preferring to use her sling and prams are hard for me to push anyway so as sister accidentally demonstrated prams are not essential we didn't fork out for one and can't say we've ever regretted it.

Well we've had a lot more sick and poo today, of which I have been covered in both on multiple occasions. I'm sure our house must smell toxic. Poor DS just been resting and suckling and sleeping with his explosive interludes. DH syringed him water bc worried about him getting dehydrated. Fingers crossed things are better for him tomorrow than today!!

Cagliostro · 17/10/2018 20:53

You’re amazing for doing anything beyond mopping up bodily fluids dani ⭐️
I have a lovely Tula now. I had a Close Caboo first which I absolutely adored, but this one is totally different. I think I could get on with it but I haven’t really given it a chance yet. My aim was to start carrying her on my back but when I tried it the top buckle was right by my throat 🤔 so I need to get my friend to show me how to adjust it.
I definitely need the buggy as she sleeps better in it, and I usually prefer it to lean on slightly, and I can’t manage to carry her weight for too long especially if I have anything else to carry :( for the same reason I wouldn’t use a ring sling, I love them but I can’t manage with the weight being on one shoulder IYSWIM.
I do wonder though if I made a mistake and should have got something like a Mei tai rather than a buckle carrier. I don’t have the coordination for a proper wrap, I got all flustered and felt like a total failure :( I dunno. I think I’ll keep trying with this one and get my confidence back and then I’ll think about trying some other ones, I’m on a sling swap/sale group on FB.

I am totally touched out this evening between poorly DS clingy DD and grumpy boob monster baby 😭

danigrace · 17/10/2018 21:01

Ahh big hugs Cag CakeBrewFlowers

I've heard great things about the Tula, have you used it to front carry at all? I can't see it being that hard to adjust for back. I find front easier for getting in and out purposes. I also found fabric ones too difficult & it was important I got a good carrier that spread weight effectively so I could manage as long as I needed (baby Bjorn are horrific) but the ergobaby 360 has been wonderful. I can't turn corners or go up or down curbs or anywhere not entirely flat and smooth even with a hydraulic pram so that pretty much rules them out for me!

Cagliostro · 17/10/2018 21:22

Ergo was my other option! I chose the Tula as I found a great bargain. Yes have got it well adjusted for front carrying now but I don’t know why I just didn’t really get going with it. Possibly just due to being autistic and not liking change 😳🤦‍♀️ and then we moved house and it’s just been shoved in a cupboard. And then the longer it got the more I was panicking about it being too late as she’d not tolerate being in it etc. As she is super active and doesn’t like being still. But actually it was fine for a bit today, I think she liked seeing things at eye level (her face when I let her try the light switch was like OMG MIND=BLOWN) so that’s given me a bit of confidence back - it had just become one of those things where the longer you leave it the harder it feels. Plus I found it much easier to get her into it today rather than struggling like when I first tried it, which I worry about doing when I’m out and about as again I get all flustered and stressed. So I’m going to keep doing it in the house and then start putting it in the buggy basket for when we are out.

Sorry for the derail folks. I’m wittering on as I finally have some headspace. I just pretty much walked out of the living room and shut myself in the bedroom. DD1 was leaning on me which I really can’t handle when the baby is also constantly clambering up, pawing at me, grabbing me etc. And it makes me want to tell DD1 to get the hell off me frankly, but I can’t as it’s not her fault at all and I don’t want to make her resent the baby! I just gave baby to DH to play with and walked upstairs. He doesn’t really get it as although he plays with her loads and does everything else that I do, he obviously doesn’t get the full on boob monster experience as she only wants me at times like this. I can hear her playing happily now though.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 17/10/2018 21:33

Hi all. Really hope things improve for you soon dani. Cag, could you get to a sling library where you could get some tips and try some slings / carriers out? Bower, do you get any physio or similar for your wrist? Best of luck with appt tomorrow zoo, good that they got you a cancellation. foxes, I agree with Hills, you can learn how to do anything on YouTube Smile.

Been at work so not much flying today. Trying to figure out yet again how to make some extra money to fit in with the family / childcare and coming up against dead ends.

Cagliostro · 17/10/2018 22:29

Frustrating stressy childcare makes everything so much more complicated. I’m starting to really crave some paid work TBH.

There isn’t a sling library very near (without a car anyway) but my friend who is coming tomorrow has absolutely loads, she is amazing at slings! I’ll ask her tomorrow to show me the back carry and I can ask another time to borrow stuff.

ta da
✅helped out at art class, they made bath bombs which went towards their science award. Just remembered I saw a poster I want to enquire about (ASDAN award which I did as a student) so going to write that down shortly. I did miss having my brunch date with DH though (he took baby for a walk)
✅put a wash on
✅not killed anyone (biggest achievement, I feel unbelievably stressed today and just want the world to sod off)
✅tried sling
✅booked onto home ed trip (Kusama exhibit)
✅researched some Japanese info and messaged former colleague (who is Japanese) for ideas of cartoons and songs to look up on YouTube!
Long cupboard:
✅sanded walls in places (where shelves had been etc)
✅hoovered
✅removed unnecessary bracket from Trofast
✅put some coats back (the rest are piled up in the living room)
✅put trays back in and got rid of some shoes
✅emptied some backpacks

More to do but just couldn’t manage anymore with baby being so clingy and DS being ill. DH did some other housework though. I’m really glad it’s not trampolining tomorrow as hopefully we can get some actual HE done. We did the bare minimum today again, I am glad we did the cupboard though.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 17/10/2018 22:41

Oh that sounds good if your friend can help with sling Cag. That’s a great list to say your DS is ill Cag. Yes, so frustrating. Basically I am looking for the same 10am -2pm job that so many other parents are looking for Hmm.

Bowerbird5 · 17/10/2018 23:11

DCags great list😃

Toostressy no last time they took over a year then wrote to ask if I still wanted to be on the list so I rang to say yes. Three months later I rang again wondering how much longer to find out someone had taken me off and I would go to bottom despite the fact that it was the top consultant who requested it in the first place. GP says it sounds about right.🤔 not much point in trying again.
Long day tomorrow.meeting then teaching all day then off to kitchen people on the way home. Will buy something easy at butchers for my tea. Stir fry? I have noodles.
Better get to sleep soon.

Cagliostro · 17/10/2018 23:19

I should seriously be sleeping, baby has been asleep for an hour but I can’t switch off! DH is having a sleepover on the couch with DS who is still not too good although he can walk more easily now.

Sorry, links don't look pretty (on tablet thing) but think they work. Pls let me know if not!

Sorry to hear your ds is still so ill Dani poor mite. I hope you are surviving too! Hope you get some sleep tonight.

And that your ds is not on good form CAG. Obviously I'm no doc, but don't rule out appendicitis completely as pain only settles on right latterly (DD had investigations a while back for it when she had colic). Hope he feels better soon though.

Great that you got a cancellation Zoo! Hope it goes well!

Waves to everyone else! Sorry, tired. DD and I went to country this after noon (school half day) for long lining lesson with Dhorse. It was great but I'm not on best form, and have bad headache now. DD still below par too. Height ho. At least she got some fresh air. G'night all!

Hope you are feeling better today SC
Stressy that's a tough ask.hope job hunt proves fruitful-someone gas to get the actual position offered 🍀
Foxes I love Mini muffins on grounds I get to eat more of them
Cag great list!!hope D's feeling better today

I need get up and crack on,very busy day ahead!

danigrace · 18/10/2018 06:56

Great plan Cag. Could you do a 5 minute round walk in it from your front door to build confidence? DS also immensely active (never stops running around / climbing / wanting to go out etc) but he prefers it to the pram my parents have for him. Think like you say it must be interesting seeing things at eye level, especially out in public seeing everyone's faces rather than everything being crotch level And you are certainly not too late, still my niece 2.11 and goddaughter 23 months' preferred mode of transport. Great to have 2 hands when browsing shops and not have to steer aisles! Tula definitely one of the few good ones for ppl who struggle like us.

Stressy I feel you with the money conundrums, it's so hard!

Bower / Zoo I hope your busy day goes okay Brew

SC hope you are feeling better? Links look very pretty!

Well I've read online the sickness part of a bug should only last 1-2 days. DS started Sunday night and was properly sick 7 times yesterday so if it carries on today I'll ring the doc

foxessocks · 18/10/2018 07:19

dani that sounds like a good idea best to get checked

Zoo the mini muffins have been devoured!

Sc hope you and your dd feeling better this morning

I don't think me and ds are going to do anything today, I'd really like him to have a long nap later as he's been so tired and grumpy last few days. I did have a meeting but that's been cancelled so I think we'll just have a nice pottering around day at home. And maybe I'll get another decent list of housework done too.

danigrace · 18/10/2018 07:28

Enjoy your pottering foxes!

SC do you think we could add the holiday crusing missions to the links, it's day 3. Tis the season and all that Grin

Spreadingcudweed · 18/10/2018 07:34

No problem Dani!

Sorry for brief post. Migraine. Keeping off screens today.

Bonfire night. Bonfire night. NO christmas before BONFIRE NIGHT.

Seriously blowing things up and setting things on fire is the best holiday we have!!!!!!!
