OK so maybe not new and improved exactly... but a more slimline, concentrated version!

Huge thanks to Hills for guiding us so slickly through September Flowers Cake Brew!

Many of us have been here forever; the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine chat and mutual support along the way. For that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees and (intermittent) regulars are hugely welcome!

We are not posting links to the Flylady site on a daily basis anymore, just the daily baby step and flight plan, and the missions and zones on a weekly basis, but don't hesitate to ask questions about the system if you have any!

More information available here and from the launch pad here.

And borrowing heavily from Hills September introduction ... .

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks

  • Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage) - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
  • Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's.

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and tangible support from fellow fledglings.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 16/10/2018 19:55

Well done at dentist Cag Flowers.

So sorry to hear so many people having a terrible time. SC, perhaps worth a trip to doctors if hair loss worsens, at least they might do some blood tests.

Ta da:-
Did a bit of extra (unpaid, seems to only extra work I can get these days) work
Both DDs in PJs
DD1 watching Strictly catch up, just need to encourage her to bed as I think it’s just finished
Homework done
Discovered long list of clothes / kit / shoes that both DDs need for autumn / winter Confused.
All eaten except DH and his tea is in the oven - only fishfingers and chips but at least it is cooked

To do:-
Bedtime routine
Look into finaxnces
Couple of other bits

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/10/2018 20:55

Foxeshope you get some me time and that little ones are now settled(or nearly settled)
Cag hope rest day panned out ok and you are hanging in there!!

DS is fretting/pacing,so we are in groundhog anxiety day

I need more hands and waaaay more patienceSad

Bowerbird5 · 16/10/2018 23:20

Just a quick hello and to say henny was back in her coop cheeky little bird. There’s me worry about her and she is strutting around her patch this morning. She must be flying to and fro. No easy to fly back in as not much of a run off.

Off to catch up on your lives.

Ta Da
Washed the sink before work. Washed up the pans and loaded discovered —doesn’t mention forgetting to put it on—

Cagliostro · 17/10/2018 00:09

Oh that’s a relief bower naughty henny though!

Aaargh zoo that’s such a shame after all your work on the girls’ room 😡 hope DS settles, he’s done so very well the last two days going into school

Sorry about all the continuing illness.

Foxes you sound ever so anxious lately :( 💐

Interesting about the baking. I still haven’t tried any, maybe I should go straight into this new world of “healthier” alternatives instead of regular baking?!

ta da
✅got up on time for dentist and walked there
✅dealt with drilling etc and didn’t even avail myself of the “put your left hand up if you want to stop” offer. Actually hardly any of it hurt apart from the X-ray and the cauterising (at least I assume that’s what was happening 🔥😂)
✅walked home again which I really wasn’t expecting to be able to do
✅put some washes on
✅put some clothes away and gathered the rest for tomorrow
✅gathered wet towels and bedding to hot wash
✅remembered bins needed to go out, Caglets did it (it’s one of their jobs now but I’m still not used to the different day since moving here)
✅gathered rubbish and recycling
✅put some of the earlier washing up away
✅did washing up
✅scrubbed and sprayed high chair
In “long cupboard” off hallway:
✅hung coats up
✅put shoe tubs away
✅moved lots of stuff out that shouldn’t be there
✅rearranged some of the drawers in said cupboard
✅emptied tae kwon do bags into one of the drawers
✅started gathering dance shoes

Feeling really happy with progress today considering I felt a bit weird after the dentist. Lovely friend took Caglets to tap for me and Cagletini slept the whole time they were out so I got a few bits done and then rested with itvplayer (watching Strangers but it’s a bit meh) and then did more little bits in the advert breaks.

Hoping tomorrow we can pull everything out of the long cupboard including the two tall trofast frames - there’s some dust etc from when DH took the crappy shelves down and put the coat hooks up, and I want to vacuum properly in there for a fresh start. Then we can make sure all the drawers and hooks are properly organised, well before the new half term.

Big news here... DH has finally been told that he can change his shifts. He will be doing some mornings instead of lates, and crucially will no longer be doing Thursdays!!! Looks like I just have this Thursday to get through. Not sure exactly what the rest of the week will look like going forward but it is guaranteed to be an improvement really. Yay!

Yay to HennyPenny being OK Bower

Zoo/Foxes recipe if you are interested here it doesn't have very good ratings on another site though! Just happened to see it being made on the telly and thought I might try it out one day!

Yes thanks Toostressy I am taking a wierd concoction of hormones before op so I am sure one of those is to blame, but will ask gp about it anyway!

Mahoosive wing flaps to everyone else!

Hope all those ailing/struggling have better days.

foxessocks · 17/10/2018 06:44

cag good news about your dh shifts!

Ds awake before 6am shouting "I want to drive a racing car!" Over and over again GrinHmm he came and sat with my in bed so wasn't too bad.

Yes I have definitely been feeling anxious in general, think everything has been a bit full on of late. Onwards and upwards! Going to try and find my positivity again!

foxessocks · 17/10/2018 06:45

*sat with me in my bed obviously!

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/10/2018 07:39

Tada
Ignored alarm-these darker mornings are seriously messing with my early bird attitude!!
Fed cats
Wash on
Swept living room floor
Seperate cat scrap(scoutcats started lunge at the girls randomly.yhink he's cross it's getting cold and they are indoor kitties but he has to go out when I'm not here/at night as he can't be trusted not to do bad things spray, find and eat human food as can open bloody doors)
Put out scoutcat in disgrace, check cossima is ok(experience in expense at vet bills infected bites and scratches taught me that)
Breakfasts and packs ups
Wash in dryer
S+s bathroom

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/10/2018 07:58

I found a "potion" in a plactic cup down corner of bathroom.no ones admit who did it or any knowledge of it,so I'm making dd2 in charge littertray and bathroom cleaning til someone owns up and admits wtf is in that cup!she's storm off livid to school but I'm tired these kind of it wasn't anyone antics that make extra work.she will be so angry someone will break and confess

More wash on
Plaited lil zoo hair as can't find a "big" bobble
DS meds

Cagliostro · 17/10/2018 08:22

Ah yes, that person called Nobody who commits all the mysterious household crimes 😡 I’m quite glad that my two are seemingly incapable of denying stuff like that, they generally own up shamefaced

Cagletini slept 6hrs straight but I still woke up twice in that time! 😡🤦‍♀️ DS is still asleep, we aren’t doing very well with enforcing early wake ups or bed times. I think part of the plan will have to be that we get stricter after half term. Evenings are tricky though (although will be easier on the days DH is here, if we are strict about a routine).

Thanks sc I’m really proud of what I got done yesterday 😀 hope to continue today but really sleepy. Really glad DH is off. It’s art club today but they have asked parents to stay for this one as they are doing something for a science award instead, so I’m a bit sad as we miss out on our now weekly brunch date! Right at the time we need to really talk about stuff 😖 I am just trying to talk about individual ideas at the odd snatched moments instead of saving it all up for some mythical time.

Spreadingcudweed · 17/10/2018 08:29

Huge sympathies Cag about trying to find a suitable time to talk to your DH. Virtually impossible here as dh is always working or on his phone or dashing out of the door or travelling. I have taken to sending e-mails. At least then I don't have to hold a tick-list in my head!

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 17/10/2018 09:57

Not a bad idea! DH isn’t that great at discussing stuff like this TBH. He is immensely practical which of course is for the most part really good, as I am not! He will just get on with stuff. I think it comes down to him not quite getting that I NEED to plan and micromanage in order to get more done, my autism/executive function difficulties mean that I find this stuff much more difficult than he does. So while having him around more will help it is not the extent of the solution. And the Caglets really need a good routine too. Generally he is happy with me just doing the thinking for this kind of thing though, he will just do what I say :o and often that’s fine, for example I actually really love planning the home ed stuff myself generally, but this just feels so BIG and like I can’t possibly comprehend it all myself and I need to bounce ideas off him.

Argh must go to art now.

danigrace · 17/10/2018 11:01

Zoo I honestly don't know how you do it, you're awesome. Hope you get to the bottom of your potion mystery!!

Bower glad henny returned!! I wonder what she got up to?

Cag very impressive list yesterday and great news about your DH shifts! Will that lead to you having more time to talk?

SC how are you feeling today?

Foxes that's really cute, but obviously better done an hour or so later!! Sending positive vibes your way Star

Well sickness still rife here, so much coming out of both ends of DS (14 months) and he's not eaten for the past 2 days so no idea where it's even all coming from. All hopes I had of not fully getting it have been given a huge knock as the last sick included projectile spray that went right into my nose and mouth Confused

Ta da:

  • sink shining
  • wash on
  • tidied round (all one handed with ds glued to me)
  • cleaned ds sick x 4 so far
  • cleaned ds bum x 2 so far including overflow on kitchen floor that he walked around
  • emptied bins and put out

To do:

  • more washing
  • try and prep some dinner
  • be kind to self
Stilllivinginazoo · 17/10/2018 11:11

Oh dear Dani you never know you might have some resistance if you've been exposed before as a child?
Is he keeping any liquids down?two days I'd be start wonder worth ringing doctor if not.hope he turns a corner soon.its awful taking care of poorly bunniesFlowers

Cag I text DP when I need something.he finds "talks" a bit scary/confrontational.he can't then digest exactly what I'm asking of him and come back to me with a clear idea what he can do.makes him feel more confident
SC that sounds tough.like being single parent but not,and over two houses.braver than iStar

Well, school wasnt a good day.cant nail it everyday I guess but he is disheartened.
We have had a snack chocolate
And I'm getting a mental list of what needs get done formed
He's researching garden spiders on internet....

foxessocks · 17/10/2018 12:15

Looked for simple piano learning online as lil zoo has had a keyboard two years at Xmas and still we haven't got to grips how to play!!found a couple simple chords to start practising!!

Mooch on Pinterest for snack ideas(for me) found couple nice seed mixes may have to try out!!

Time go get lil zoo,and return to trenches over" potion gate"!!

HillsBesideTheSea · 17/10/2018 15:37

zoo - youtube. Seriously there are tutorials on everything. How to play x, how do to do y etc etc. Ds has taught himself more keyboard using it. Youtube taught me to knit. And I am hoping that Youtube is going to up my photography game too.

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/10/2018 16:07

Hillsmay have to hunt out how to crochet once we get to grips on piano playing(well keyboard)Grin
Snack given to little ones(please note Maryland dessert cookies are AWFULMississippi mud pie are choc chip choc cookies with caramel.caramel don't work and not as nice as regular double chocolate chip, cheese cake are vanilla with white chocolate and just taste bloody nasty!)

Cagliostro · 17/10/2018 16:36

Oh is there anything worse than a disappointing biscuit? :(

I’m on the sofa with a poorly DS, he’s got a really bad tummy ache which isn’t like him. He’s complained occasionally over the last week or two so I did find myself googling appendicitis! But it’s in the wrong place. So not sure what is going on. He’s had a bit of calpol (discovered we have 4 yes 4 bottles of the infant one and can’t find the 6+ anywhere) and is curled up with a hot water bottle watching powerpuff girls.

I did manage to stick a wash on before this started though and DH and I cleared and cleaned the long cupboard and I put most things back. Got a few more drawers to sort though and also wanted to declutter the coats before hanging up.

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/10/2018 17:32

Poor D's.hope feels better sooncag
Lots laughs with keyboard!
Potion gate sorted .was(as expected) lil zoo...
Dd2 grumping not fair still got play but I said she's had darn thing near two years and I had promised.there will be a consequence once I've thought of one
