OK so maybe not new and improved exactly... but a more slimline, concentrated version!

Huge thanks to Hills for guiding us so slickly through September Flowers Cake Brew!

Many of us have been here forever; the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine chat and mutual support along the way. For that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees and (intermittent) regulars are hugely welcome!

We are not posting links to the Flylady site on a daily basis anymore, just the daily baby step and flight plan, and the missions and zones on a weekly basis, but don't hesitate to ask questions about the system if you have any!

More information available here and from the launch pad here.

And borrowing heavily from Hills September introduction ... .

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks

  • Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage) - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
  • Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's.

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and tangible support from fellow fledglings.

Sounds like yesterday was very stressful Bower Flowers Hope today less so!

Good luck at the dentist this morning Cag [hands over four leaf clover and Gin]

Wing flaps to everyone else!

Had the most wretched night's sleep. It was boiling hot. I woke about three times with hot flashes. Felt very sick and had stomach cramps too. Oh yes and my hair seems to be falling out too! Oh joy! Every time I wake a bit more of it is scattered over the pillow. Dd (who tends to look at life through equine eyes) just said that I'm "probably just shedding my summer coat" [mmm thanks for that].

But on a positive note, the piano mending/tuning bloke is coming today! Waited for this appt for five months believe it or not so fingers crossed he turns up!

Small steps everyone!

SC bad day academically or because still feeling out of sorts?(or both)

Spreadingcudweed · 16/10/2018 07:30

Ta Zoo she is in a very much tougher group academically this year (an inevitable result of only 50-55% of pupils passing their end of year exams which is standard rate they impose annually btw - and because they mix up classes of remaining pupils every year) and academic pace is very quick. She is doing well in everything but maths though (we've already had first half term report and parents receive all mid-week test results through computer hub straight to our e-mails) but she doesn't like it as much socially and her boyfiend has been placed in a different form. She just seems constantly fed up tbh and v irritable. Total tinder box time. Try to support her but everything I do/say/suggest is wrong somehow. DH no help at all because he went to extremely academically school and keeps saying she needs more pressure/competition/ responsibility as it's all too "easy peasy" nowadays apparently and "not like how things were done in his day" Confused.

On a positive note though, the curriculum has mahoosively broadened compared with first two years of secondary (which were hideously dry and regimented) , so loads of theatre and exhibition trips, day trips and trips abroad, speeches, debates, special projects, community outreach work, extra curric eco projects etc, so much better from that pov! It's a job for her packing it all tbh as holidays v long and terms vv intense!

Ooh yes, how did Henny Penny fair overnight Bower?

OP posts:
Stilllivinginazoo · 16/10/2018 07:40

Wow SC I think I'd either and die trying to follow what she has to do.fair play to her for keeping up.and fair play to you for balancing on the firing line!!!!

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/10/2018 07:43

Tada
Wash on
Fed cats
Littertray and bins
Breakfasts and pack ups

Ready to kill lil zoo...she's become a bugger for waiting up for dd2 to go bed then messing around into night so nietherget up.i left them this morning til 730,giving dd2 15 mins to get ready, and lilzok been firmly told bed early, lights out early and be woken at 530 every day to reset her body clock and more importantly let dd2 sleep when she gets to bed as she's a bloody nightmare if hasn't had enough rest!!!!

Spreadingcudweed · 16/10/2018 07:47

Thanks Zoo me too tbh! I'd never have coped at her age, especially the immersion langx2 aspect. It's an amazing education they offer tbh saying it's the state system, but it's very focused on core subjects and very much "one size fits all" and quite negative/old fashioned in its delivery.

Oh sympathies re: nightly high jinks Zoo! Hope they all get off to school without too much trouble (arranges rocking chair with fluffy patchwork cushion by fire in naughty corner for your return). Brew

Hope everyone else's morning goes ok! I am off to walk the furry!

Hope it's brighter there SC dank n dim here today.not at all inviting!but I strangely like the smell of damp leaves in autumn so I shall cling to that as we trudge the hour round trip, plus add in time for D's task at school before bringing him back for change of clothes then off out again...fun never stops!!

stegosauruslady · 16/10/2018 08:31

Checking back in after a relaxing couple of days.

Sadly, neither DP nor I slept last night (well, he is asleep now!) I wake up easily, so every time he moved/sighed/whatever I woke up and he was up all night in a funny mood. Not looking forward to today... My eyes are itchy already, but then I've been up since 4.30.

I've been getting a few jobs done this morning though before I get too shattered, so ta daas from me...

Laundry done and put away
Cat litter
Bins out
DD2 helped with times tables practice
Zen achieved with exH who keeps sending me aggressive text messages

I may go back to bed after the school run!

Cagliostro · 16/10/2018 08:40

Morning folks. I am up and dressed (in non BFing friendly clothes since I am not taking baby with me! Confidence boost provided by an underwired bra :o) and will leave shortly. Thank you for the good lucks.

Sorry about bad nights, changes at work and wandering Henny!

Back later. Advance warning I may talk more on here if I can’t speak IRL 😳😂

laurenamium · 16/10/2018 08:49

Good luck today cag

Yesterday was my birthday so zero flying was done! As a result today's list looks a bit longer

Ta da: kids dressed and to school
Beds made

To do:
Shine sink (and do pots)
S&s in bathroom
Task doesn't work for me as I have a wicker basket, so I will sort the cupboard of creams and potions instead
Sort laundry
Iron
Clean out car and take it to be hoovered and washed
Wash car seat covers
Iron
Poo pick horses field
Ride

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/10/2018 09:14

Belated birthday wishes LaurenCake
Cag chat away as much as you need, were here to listenFlowersI know what you mean about different bras nice to feel like a woman not a cow(I felt like that, not saying you do)sometimes😁

Cagliostro · 16/10/2018 10:14

No I know exactly what you mean. Plus a confidence boost from my top (which doesn’t lift up easy so don’t tend to wear it) fitting better woohoo!

Anyway all done it was actually fine. Walking home now (was thinking I’d need taxi if in pain)

Cagliostro · 16/10/2018 13:54

Quiet today!
Happy birthday for yesterday lauren forgot to say earlier in my nervy state 😳

I’m still feeling mostly ok but the injection is definitely wearing off now, so my face is a bizarre mix of useless (drinking water through a straw and spilling soup) and sore! So I declared it an afternoon off for the Caglets as talking is a bit tricky.

But I’m trying to get some housework done instead. Have put a wash on and gathered towels and sheets (and the laundry basket liner which was a bit ick), opened windows, got Caglets to clear the table a bit and am trying to sort out the long cupboard downstairs too. Cagletini not really playing ball though, she’s quite clingy. I am back in my BF friendly clothes. 🙄

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/10/2018 14:00

Yaycag .really pleased it went well.be proud of yourself❤️

Tada
Spent near hour locating all surfaces and floor or front room from discarded good/wrappers/crockery/stuff that's drop where they sat...

I'm in rant mode...
DS phones still missing.place a total sty due to me having no time do things unhampered by D's.....i went into girls room that's unrecognisable from the photos of less two months ago.im disgusted with it.in ten mins I picked up 6books,encountered half bin bag rubbish and more discarded dirty knickers on floor than I care to remember in twp foot square space😢.lost it and went into D's room.no visible floor despite shoveling it hunting phone other day...kits furball in there last week and was couple days before I located the same and end up throw away a pair jeans they had upchucked on as was combo furball and kibble(tmi sorry)
I despair his we ever going to have a usable uncluttered space if they are constantly making a trail destruction wherever they go😢

Spreadingcudweed · 16/10/2018 16:40

Glad dentist not too traumatic Cag

Hope you had a good 'un yesterday Lauren

Not surprised you were upset with girls after all your efforts on their rooms Zoo

Still feel a bit "off" today but ta da:
tidied kitchen
walked furry
emptied dw
washing x 2
tidied a bit more before piano restorer came
(he's gone off with innards), so relieved something can be done cos thought I'd bought a dog, but it's worth restoring apparently!
4 hrs office work

Now cooking several large vats of pasta as have been invaded by teens (DD and classmates have project work).

OP posts:
foxessocks · 16/10/2018 18:19

zoo it feels like such an uphill slog sometimes doesn't it Sad

Cag well done for today

Sc you've done loads if you still don't feel great Brew

I think I'm really suffering with my hormones at the moment. At least I'm guessing that's what's going on. I was fine yesterday but today I feel anxious, not with it at all. I don't know if it's hormones or just a lack of headspace. Love ds to pieces obviously but he's very chatty now (like his sister!) and he doesn't always nap. Then we had a surprise visit from friend and her dd who stayed until 5.30 so had to rush dinner and we haven't even eaten yet. I like to have the dc getting ready for bed by now!! Don't get me wrong my friend is lovely and she needs support at the moment but I just need some space!!

Anyway meant to be going to a committee meeting in less than an hour but I honestly don't think I can do it and I feel guiltySad

Sorry. Huge rant.

Spreadingcudweed · 16/10/2018 18:53

Thanks Foxes sorry to hear you are not feeling so chipper again; you are spinning so many plates and sometimes one has to drop so don't feel guilty!

Dh and I are hiding upstairs as teens have taken over downstairs.

Oh and to reassure the germaphobes among us (include myself in that description believe it or not!) forgot to say I wouldn't dream of cooking for teens if I didn't know my ill health was structural/ ovarian related. I overdid it riding at the w/e even though I only plod walk don't even trot currently. Think I may have to stop until after op sadly.

Anyone else had amazing weather today? People are wandering around in flip flops and shorts here! It's boiling hot!

OP posts:
Stilllivinginazoo · 16/10/2018 19:11

Nope.dank n dreary here SC.sorry to hear you feel so rough.and must be super hard trying not to rude your gorgeous boy but you have to be careful lovely.is the op far off now?(obvs don't have answer such personal question)

Foxesanother batch positive vibes and support for you too.i used to hate changes of plans that left zoolets up later at that age.i NEEDED that time out.dont feel guilty or apologetic you have to keep YOU well if you can't take care everyone else lesson learned here from bitter experience CakeFlowers

Little ones fed n watered
More riots with dd2/lil zoo
DS in full anxiety throttle
I'm feeling quite agitated n stressed myself tonight.need start ensuring out in adequate self care or as we move into winter I will crash and burn spectacularly...

Spreadingcudweed · 16/10/2018 19:27

[snaffles a cocolate] Zoo S'alright can still brush the beast Grin As for date nothing more definite than before Christmas. Sorry it's so tough at your end currently. You must be exhausted - self care sounds like an excellent strategy - take it steady Flowers

Dh running teens home now (thank heavens he's around tonight). Dd shattered but she has more hwk to finish unfortunately.

OP posts:
danigrace · 16/10/2018 19:30

Thanks ladies ♥️

I hope you had a lovely birthday Lauren

Ensuring adequate self care sounds like good advice to all of us at the moment Zoo!!

Well I have been taken down and DS still being sick and doing spectacular poos... Thankfully the "in case of emergency" antisickness stuff the doc gave me is working wonders and I think might keep me out of the hospital (touch wood).

Love to all

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/10/2018 19:31

If I'd not seen the evidence I'd not get why you call him a beast.he is a strapping ladGrin

Spreadingcudweed · 16/10/2018 19:31

Zoo & Foxes btw have you heard of chocolate mousse made with avocado instead of eggs/butter?
