OK so maybe not new and improved exactly... but a more slimline, concentrated version!

Huge thanks to Hills for guiding us so slickly through September Flowers Cake Brew!

Many of us have been here forever; the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine chat and mutual support along the way. For that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees and (intermittent) regulars are hugely welcome!

We are not posting links to the Flylady site on a daily basis anymore, just the daily baby step and flight plan, and the missions and zones on a weekly basis, but don't hesitate to ask questions about the system if you have any!

More information available here and from the launch pad here.

And borrowing heavily from Hills September introduction ... .

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks

  • Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage) - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
  • Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's.

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and tangible support from fellow fledglings.

Oh no, hope you feel better soon SC. I can do links if need be? I suppose maybe that is the benefit of the new slimline thread, perhaps missing the odd day if thread leader is ill etc will be ok anyway?

I also love Method stuff, rarely buy it due to cost although my mum gets it for me sometimes. Good to hear it’s on offer!

Spreadingcudweed · 08/10/2018 23:12

Oh bless you Too stressy thank you. Am still feeling grim. Should be ok I hope - as you say - new slimned down links hardly onerous thankfully! Sorry I am not doing a good job of 'personals' though in circs.

Good work re:dentist rdv Cag!

Somewhat feeble wing flaps to everyone

Sorry that was garbled! Meant to say I should be ok to do links but thank you v much Toostressy Smile. Hope you had a good start to week!

Sorry to hear you have the lurgy SC it was almost inevitable though after DD being unwell. Hope it doesn’t last long. We will keep each other going don’t worry about the thread.

Cabs that sounds great. Whiteboard is a good idea as if Caglitini is poorlyor needing you the could get started. We had a new teacher do this as we had lots of lates or talkers coming in while we are trying to do the register. She put stuff on the board every day so they come in quietly, read the board, follow the instructions and get on with the work. The ASD kids love it because it is structured and everyone is quieter so they arrive in a calm classroom. Other staff have started doing it too. There haven’t been any arguments or fights since this started. It is all short sharp tasks. It can be one task with sections or a few tasks.

I’m impressed with the plastering. I can do tiling but never tried plastering.
I fancy getting my outside loo redone next year. The toilet is Victorian I think, well the cistern looks it, the pan is newer 1970’s maybe as previous owner moved in then. The cistern is leaking, rusting I think so will need new. The loo seat broke ages ago and is bloody cold to sit on but DH doesn’t care. The plaster is coming off in chunks. So I fancy getting a new loo and taking the plaster off and having new plaster and a roof, so bits and spiders don’t land on you when you are sitting there. I’m always quick.
I want to paint it terracotta in swaths of light and darker shades so it looks like the loo at a garden place we used to go to. It had a lion wash basin in the wall. I don’t suppose I can have one of those too.
First the kitchen though. I haven’t started doing any packing yet. Might do some tomorrow. Actually if I did a box a day it would help.DD packed all her stuff and instant pot and gave it to her brother today😢
Not long now. DH said she wept buckets when she saw him to the train.

Ta Das today
Swish and swipe bathroom.
Made bed.
Took washing down, sorted and washed.
Sorted my meds for two weeks into one of those pill things. I’ve lost Wednesday though so Tuesday has double dose.
Sorted all my cards in card box and wrote on two.
Found a RBC in the dining room half full of school stuff😫 I had nearly sorted it when DD & DS came home early from walk. Damn. Had to Chuck some back in so they could sit down. Filed the rest though.
Threw some out, yeah me!
Sorted some books
Wiped down worktops, washed up and shined sink.
Put dishwasher on.
Put washer on.
Cleaned microwave.
Sorted the pans into a tidier mess.

DD made salad for tea. We were supposed to be having take away Thai curry. She did a good job though. I find it hard to chop things. My wrist is still painful.
Then I went to quiz. We won!

DD told me about Method but I haven’t tried it yet. They sell it in the shop she worked in. I am going to get some when my current stuff runs out. I don’t want to buy it yet re the kitchen.

I am going out for a coffee in the morning. Must also ring GP and the man about the summer house then the farmer for access. Happy flying tomorrow. Stacks up naughty corner with Danish pastries.

Bowerbird5 · 08/10/2018 23:38

Cabs who is Cabs? bloody auto correct.
Great work re dentist. I’m the same, put off going but then am annoyed at self. I have gone private now as I didn’t like new NHS one. I have a lovely European girl who is the gentlest I have ever had. I don’t have to go for six months except scale and polish. Yeah!

Spreadingcudweed · 09/10/2018 00:05

Thank you Bower bird Smile. Not long now for new kitchen, how exciting! A cupboard a day re: packing stategy sounds like a good plan! Good luck with it

And Star for list (and to everyone who has been busy today!)

Urgh. Not a good sleep. Dd was coughing all night , ds shouted in his sleep waking me up several times and then the cat came in at 5am because her bowl hadn't worked (she has one that automatically goes round as she likes to have breakfast at 5am Hmm)

On the plus side I have coffee and the dc are still quiet! It's chilly this morning so I don't really want to get up.

stegosauruslady · 09/10/2018 07:04

Morning! Everything was annoying me yesterday, including DP who was migrainey all morning so didn't get up until 11 and was then grouchy too all day. Before bed we agreed on a less grumpy day today!

cag Well done on the dentist booking! If you feel like booking my DP an appointment while you're on a roll...

bower Plastering is fine as long as you don't let it stress you out, it seems that if I get stressy about it, it immediately goes wrong! I love your plans for your loo...you should definitely get a lion basin! One of my friends made (in clay!) an octopus basin for his bathroom and it looks great!

I love method products, but DP (when he does clean!) uses waaaay too much of every product, so I have a hidden method stash behind the cheap stuff he can splash around!

While on DP and housework, he is generally inept, but as we have this baby coming (its his first!) he wants to get better as he knows I'll be useless for a while. However, as an example, last night he was talking about doing the kids' lunchboxes, but explaining how to do them is more exhausting than actually doing them...how on earth do I get around this?!

Spreadingcudweed · 09/10/2018 07:43

for Bower Grin

Oh no Foxes that sounds like a very disturbed night (proffers strong [tea])

Steggy hope you and your dh have a less grumpy today today! And sympathies re: male ineptitude. No idea what the answer is! Funnily enough my dh suffers from SIS (specific ineptititude syndrome). When it comes to cooking he can julienne, de-glaze, flambé, griddle, concasse etc etc. But for some strange reason, those same dexterous hands are incapable of emptying a bin or fetching a new loo roll. Tis a mystery! Hmm

Very slow morning here. Saw dd off to school for lunch (she is still pale and wan) and tottered around the block with the furry, then went back to bed. Just emerging again now and tentatively eating toast.

Hope everyone has a good day. BBL to catch up!

Morning
stegoMake him a step by step plan. DP isn’t too bad with food related jobs although he puts some weird combinations on.
Other housework is a bit hit and miss. He vacuums but rarely moves anything; occasionally does bathroom but misses something every time, usually shower screen. Makes bed by throwing cover back over but doesn’t straighten sheet or put cushion back on. It seems to be a common link on this thread.
foxes sorry to hear you haven’t slept well. I couldn’t get to sleep then in the middle of the night had a lot of pain in my leg and hip. I went back to sleep and slept well until 7:15am but feel like shutting my eyes again. I could but I am trying to get back into school time.

To do
15 minutes in dining room. Look out for RBCs I found one yesterday I could have cried.
Clean around kettles area remove everything first.
Wash floor as I didn’t get it done with walkers returning early.

Cagliostro · 09/10/2018 08:45

Ugh tired. Same again last night slept on floor while baby had the sofa until she woke for a feed. She’s still asleep now, wish I was 😡

Play date kid arrives at 10. Caglets having showers first then my turn. Still need to work on getting that built into the morning routine. Starting to think that 7.30 alarm isn’t early enough if we want to start HE at 8.30 and they quite reasonably look forward to a bit of telly beforehand (it’s a new thing that they are actually allowed, as they get very little time in the evenings and it’s obviously switched off during the school day). Aaaaarggh.

I also felt really down last night as when I was ordering Tesco I looked at the recipe section and it all looked so nice and I was thinking what’s the point as the Caglets would never eat it. It’s hard to find a balance of how strict I am because they do have sensory issues from the ASD. But it’s also getting to the point where it may affect baby too - she is BLW and will eat anything but I don’t think she’s getting enough variety. I think we need a massive overhaul but it just feels like too much to think about ATM 😣

Anyway forgot my list for yesterday
ta da

Cagliostro · 09/10/2018 08:49

Oh. Oops 😂 almost sums up yesterday though 😳

ta da
✅loads of home ed including plenty delegated
✅ordered Tesco
✅planned today with friend
✅phoned dentist 😇

Don’t think I did anything else really 😳

Cagliostro · 09/10/2018 09:38

Right. Shower done. Now sitting with wet hair as CBA to move. But need to go downstairs as I can hear baby is awake (Caglets are with her while DH showers) and they need to get on with home ed quickly or nothing will get done 😳

Why am I so slow 🐌🐌🐌

Cagliostro · 09/10/2018 11:33

Where is everyone?

DH suggested moving the furniture today, we had been thinking about it a while as the table was in an awkward place which meant mealtimes were a bit annoying. So we’ve swapped it for the kallax corner and it looks like it will work much better. It now feels like we have a huge space to play, with a cosy TV bit in the corner.

I’m glad DH got on with it as actually it made sense to do it while we had the Caglets’ friend here as we weren’t focusing on home ed stuff. Sometimes DH’s “just dive in” personality annoys me as I’m a planner not a do-er 😳 but it is good really.

I do want to fully organise the kallax but we have just shoved stuff back on for the moment as baby is still uber snotty and grumpy.

Argh just realised my trousers have a massive hole. Fail.

foxessocks · 09/10/2018 13:02

I'm here cag! Sometimes with small children you may want to get a job done or finish a job but they have other ideas! I have been telling myself recently that's it's okay not to manage everything because it's bloody hard to when you have little kids. I'm fed up of being so self critical.

I'm struggling a bit today, ds over tired and I just shouted at him Sad he's asleep now anyway. Need to do some stuff but just want to lay on the sofa.

Ta da
Dishwasher emptied and reloaded
Washing on
Washing folded
Been to toddler group
Made cheese and tomato toasties and cucumber sticks for ds lunch
Put ds to bed (with some shouting Blush)
Been emailing a work colleague as I'm picking up some of her work when she's on maternity leave, I fear I have bitten off more than I can chew.
Meal plan for next week
Taken some random leftovers out of the freezer for dinner

To do
Hang washing outside
Do online food shop

Cagliostro · 09/10/2018 13:25

Indeed foxes :( I have filled the shelves and bizarrely there seems to be more space on them since moving them 🤔 which does give me a little leeway when I go to rearrange them all. I will start with the home ed section anyway. I’m thinking the best option may be to still have most of the books lower (I don’t want to put heavy stuff at the top) but then just have the textbooks etc that we are currently using on the top shelf. Eg we have RE books 1-4 but the first one will last us a good few months so will just have that on the top. Hoping that will make it really easy to access.

Bowerbird5 · 09/10/2018 13:53

I've been out for short walk but feeling it a bit now.
Haven't done the plan at all yet and now summer house people are going to come today instead of tomorrow to lay foundations. I misunderstood as I thought they were coming to put whole thing up tomorrow so DD wont see it before she leaves. He said they are still waiting for roofing material to arrive but the rest is done and in the dry shed. I can play with it in half term. I have decided to take a couple more days as foot still not quite right. It was throbbing last night right up my leg to hip. Ouch.

Unfortunately toddlers don't fancy falling in with our plans sometimes.
DH s can be similar.

Yep Cags DH is a doer he packed up some of the kitchen which doesn't need doing until November. I'm a bit of both i like to plan first though and I was planning to do it in half term the week before the cooker comes which makes sense to me. I know he is trying to help but the dresser looks so bare while the cupboards are full and some stuff has been piled in the corner which could have been packed. Ah well we just have to grin and bear it I guess.
Going to have a bit of lunch in the garden as it is sunny up here.

Bowerbird5 · 09/10/2018 13:54

Anti procrastination phone calls have been done and it is only Tuesday!

Spreadingcudweed · 09/10/2018 16:04

Sorry you are having such a frustrating day Foxes! We all shout occasionally so don't be hard on yourself! Sometimes it doesn't harm for DC to know you are displeased!

Well done re BRC hunting and destroying Bower! Hope all goes well with shed!

And good job re book reorganization Cag! Ignore if this is a crap idea but wrt fussy eating any good if you incorporate cooking in to home edding ie maths/volume, science/baking, five a day/biology/digestion/nutrition/agriculture. Maybe pick a topic/vegetable of the week according to seasons? Or one famous dish from around the world per month? I dunno! Just thought might help them to overcome suspicion of new ingred if they were involved with it hands on but you've probably thought of that before anyway!

Steggy hope plastering going well! Think you are ace to diy!

Danigrace hope toddler less ragey and baby less snotty and that you are all having a better day today!

Waves to Hills Bonus Toostressy Zoo I've Meet and everyone else I've missed (sorry!). Can't scroll any further on this device!

I'm going v slowly today. Stomach totally better thank heavens. So so far accurately following dd's trajectory but three days behind as now have the aches and the cough! Dd is still feeling very tired but at least has made it through another day of school. So frustrating as we both have loads to do! Did 2 loads washing, managed to walk furry in glorious sunshine, and worked on creative project but stopped after one hr as every bone in my body is aching! Going to rest and watch Kirsty & Phil now, then make chicken noodle broth for Dd and me for supper!

Have a good evening everyone and I hope the sleep deprived among us get better quality shut eye tonight!

sc were you watching location location location? I love that programme Smile

Ta da
Washed up
Fed cat
Collected dd and kept my sanity , ds even walked most of the way!
Cleaned the downstairs toilet
Cleaned the downstairs toilet window
Got rid of cobwebs in downstairs toilet
Emptied the dc bags of dirty clothes from yesterday
Cleaned mirror in downstairs toilet
(There's a theme here! It was overdue a proper clean!!)

Dinner will be easy later I just need to reheat the leftovers and see what we've actually got! Might do some beans with it if not enough. I think the leftovers are cassoulet, potatoes and veg and there are definitely some chipolatas and some bacon. Using up some stuff as the freezer was pretty full up.

Time for another Brew now.
