OK so maybe not new and improved exactly... but a more slimline, concentrated version!

Huge thanks to Hills for guiding us so slickly through September Flowers Cake Brew!

Many of us have been here forever; the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine chat and mutual support along the way. For that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees and (intermittent) regulars are hugely welcome!

We are not posting links to the Flylady site on a daily basis anymore, just the daily baby step and flight plan, and the missions and zones on a weekly basis, but don't hesitate to ask questions about the system if you have any!

More information available here and from the launch pad here.

And borrowing heavily from Hills September introduction ... .

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks

  • Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage) - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
  • Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's.

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cake and Wine and tangible support from fellow fledglings.

Haven’t seen the Apprentice because I forgot it was on. DD not keen yet I think she will enjoy laughing at those who trek out there degrees then can’t do a basic skill/ have an idea. Will catch up. She introduced me to The Derry Girls today, bloody hilarious and I knew a nun worse than that a real larger than life figure who had my friend praying in the back as she drove down the M6 at about 90 miles an hour with a fag in her hand turning around to answer one of them in the back.
Then we watched Raised by Wolves which DD had never seen just the pilot so not as funny as a couple I watched.

Zoo Have you ever considered which a series/sitcom. I reckon you could and it would be very funny. You do have a great turn of phrase.

Went to Mass then returned and put some stuff away. Took DD to next village as a sale on. Bought a citronella melt and a vase. It is the peony one from Portmerion. £15 I wanted it ages ago and it was double that.
The came home made some soup and went to Choir. Sang a lovely Christmas song then a lively one.
Took a couple of clothing items to church and some books.
Need to go to sleep as i’m Dropping off here.😴

Bowerbird5 · 07/10/2018 23:52

It is extremely windy here. There are several very tall trees opposite!

Cagliostro · 08/10/2018 01:09

Flowers all round.

Also bleh with snotty very grumpy baby who wants to stay around my neck 24/7... Managed to do my 15 minute declutter, keep on top of dishes and shiny sink, and do my morning/before bed routines so definitely counting that as a winner.

If I can somehow muster the inner strength today..
To do:

  • morning routine (inc s&s, laundry on etc)
  • 15 minutes declutter
  • weekly home blessing hour (aiming for all of it bc never seem to manage one thing each day)
  • clean out bin (mission)
  • go to morning playgroup with DS
  • butchers
  • drop charity bag off
  • make dinner
  • before bed routine
-- keep myself and other family members alive and preferably sane...
HillsBesideTheSea · 08/10/2018 06:47

Morning all, thanks for links SC.

Also have the Monday morning feeling here. Back to reality as back home now and need to get kids ready for school. Stuff everywhere as got back late last night. At least I am up and sort of dressed and DD1 is up and dressed. Going to make a coffee and get on.

Brew for everyone who had a bad night.

foxessocks · 08/10/2018 06:53

Brew all round. My dd is also very snotty this morning , she can't seem to shake off this cold. Have a feeling it's going to be tricky to get her ready for school this morning.

stegosauruslady · 08/10/2018 07:03

Morning! Feeling pretty Monday-ish here too. DD1 was just talking about how pants Mondays are!

I had a good weekend, family over for lunch and a long walk on Saturday, then a chilled Sunday.

Today's main job is plastering a chunk of the kitchen and ordering the new hob etc. I'm better at plastering than DP, so he will be on mixing and making tea while I do it.

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/10/2018 08:12

foxessocks · 08/10/2018 10:08

Yep zoo she's been snotty since about week two. I think that plus starting school excitement means she is now totally exhausted poor thing! Half term can't come quick enough.

She was grumpy on the walk to school but went in happily at least. Ds picked up by my mum and I've just done a quick clean of the house now for Brew then some actual work at some point I suppose!

Ta da
Dishwasher on
Washing on
Tidied up
Dusted downstairs
Mopped everywhere
Kitchen bin emptied
Some washing put away
Changed all the towels

Cagliostro · 08/10/2018 10:18

Morning all. Baby actually slept through till 5 on the sofa. I then had my alarm set for 8 but then found out friends couldn’t come to do Japanese after all. So no need to get up and panic tidy and I had a lie in although I can never actually go back to sleep in these situations. DH took the big two to Asda for a top up shop so I could have some quiet, they got some cheap Halloween decorations, not exactly a financial priority 🙄 but we had promised them some for the new house so £5 well spent to stop them going on about it.

Need to crack on with some work now though, we normally try to start at 8.30. At least I have some things in mind that they can do today as I’m not exactly feeling inspired.

Bowerbird5 · 08/10/2018 10:30

Morning all.
Cags: Since they are in the mood what about writing a Hallowe’en poem to take if they go out. In Scotland all the kids did a ‘piece’ before they got sweets. Some used to write and recite quit long poems or ditties it was great listening to them.
Sorry to hear some had a bad night. I upped meds yesterday as I was a bit teary at church so I slept like a log. Sorry.
I think maybe I should stay on the higher dose for now. It helps pain and also stress but makes me feel dopey. It is only a small dose but I usually cut it in half to avoid dopiness/ sleeping in.

Plan for today

Remove and sort the rest of the stuff from the dining room
Tidy kitchen and wash floor

That will do I think.

Cagliostro · 08/10/2018 10:32

Ooh that’s a great idea bower thanks - we just did the poetry live lesson on bbc last week, and then DS has to write a poem for St. John so will take some time for that (on days when DH isn’t here as he wants to write it about daddy ❤️) but we could do some Halloween simile/metaphor etc 😀💐

Cagliostro · 08/10/2018 14:05

They’ve got quite a lot done today, I ended up going to bed for a bit but wrote a quick list of what they needed to do. I really need to get that whiteboard so I can write it up the night before.

I didn’t manage to sleep but am at least several chapters further on in the book I’m reading so that’s something.

DD keeps taking the baby outside in her shoes and reins. It’s ridiculously cute. DH and DS are going to build a model (one of those usborne cut out things that requires painstaking gluing etc) and I’m just a bit useless today.

danigrace · 08/10/2018 14:06

Sounds fun Cag!

Zoo well I got clawed in the face by an overtired raging toddler earlier so it seems that the answer is no... I cannot.

Ta da:

  • morning routine (inc s&s, laundry on etc)
  • weekly home blessing hour 5/7 so far
  • disinfect and wipe down kitchen bin
  • go to morning playgroup with DS

Still to do:

  • 15 minutes declutter
  • WHBH 2/7 (sheets and mirrors)
  • butchers
  • drop charity bag off
  • make dinner
  • before bed routine
foxessocks · 08/10/2018 14:29

Ta da
Dusted upstairs
Hung washing out
Folded some washing
Cleaned bathroom
Spent 15 minutes attempting to tidy and clean utility room (dh has a lot of random DIY stuff in there so I kind of cleaned around the edges!)
Cleaned the microwave
More washing on
Phoned place re my mum's birthday to get some info
Found some info out for Christmas meal with some friends

Oh and did my actual work. Phew. Had scrambled eggs for lunch too so have even managed to eat properly today!

Got to pick dd up soon so think I'm going to have half an hour on the sofa before I go.

Btw was it you cag who recommended the Method cleaning products? I bought some as they were on offer at Sainsbury's and the no chemicals / recycled packaging appealed to me. Haven't used them yet but the bottles are pretty!

Spreadingcudweed · 08/10/2018 15:19

Hey all! Sorry to be an absent thread leader. I've got a dodgy stonach and keep having waves of feeling faint and grim. DD is back at school but not feeling great. Dh is in Rome. And office website has chosen this day to crash! Arrgh! And I need to walk furry ... .

So sorry haven't caught up but hope everyone is ok!

stegosauruslady · 08/10/2018 16:02

Oof. Super tired now, but the wall is plastered. I'll skim it tomorrow, then it's ready for painting!

Other ta daas include, hoovering under the sofa cushions, tidying the living room and DP currently doing the dishes.

Tea is going to be butternut squash and chilli soup with cheesy bread.

I'm going to spend my evening fantasising about the food I will cook once my kitchen is finished!

I might also have persuaded DP that a nice vinyl floor would be ace in the dining room. It would be super practical and easy to clean.

Cagliostro · 08/10/2018 20:02

Thanks zoo

I told DH and he was like why would you do that crazy woman 😂 he’s even more phobic than I am. But we talked about it and agreed that after I sort myself out (I have a maternity exemption but obviously not much longer - in an ideal world I’d have seen them as soon as I got it but as you can see this has taken me this long 😞😖😳 - so will have some stuff to pay) he will try and man up and go! We also want to get the Caglets sorted as they did see one where we used to live but haven’t for ages and tbh he was a dick anyway so if the new one is nice (on the phone they said this particular one is great with nervous patients) we will switch them too. And actually do the proper grown up thing of regular check ups and such.

Ooh what Method fragrances did you get foxes we have grapefruit spray, rhubarb antibacterial, water mint bathroom and almond floor stuff. I’d like to get the glass cleaner when my current supermarket spray runs out.

I love the mint loo cleaner as I hate regular Harpic etc, but they’ve stopped it on Tesco and it’s horrifically pricey everywhere else. Any other recommendations?

Play date tomorrow :) here so I can chill downstairs and they have plenty of space to play upstairs yay! In future weeks they will be doing home ed with us as well but just wanted to play first, the mum has loads to do as well due to moving house so it’s sort of childcare too and a long chat afterwards hopefully!

foxessocks · 08/10/2018 20:48

I only got two cag I got the shower spray which is ylang-ylang (it was a substitute as I wanted the bathroom cleaner but I'm not fussed). And I got the kitchen cleaner which is Clementine. Sainsbury's are doing them for £2 a bottle or they were when I shopped online last week. They do laundry detergent too! As for loo cleaner I get the own brand ones which are okay but I'd like to try the method ones at some point I'll have to stock up when they're on offer I think. I didn't know they did that many things!!

Cagliostro · 08/10/2018 20:55

Oo thanks I’ll look in Sainsbury’s then. I just hate the bleach smell of the regular stuff.
