Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

This is the August thread so I am reliably informed that it is usually more of a general chat thread. Links won’t be posted by an official ‘thread leader’ every day but I will leave some links in this OP. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

zoo a tip run Shock you are seriously going for it at the moment!! I never manage a tip run ever. One of those things that literally always needs doing here!!

Sc dh is making the apple cake as we speak. I was going to make it this week but he decided to do it tonight because he's hungry and wants to eat it right now Grin I'm not complaining!

Ta da
Dishwasher emptied and reloaded
Quick tidy of toys and other junk
Washing hung up and more put on

Also good deed of the day - I found a £10 note when we were out today and I handed it in at the gift shop. I was slightly tempted to buy ice creams with it but my conscience got the better of me Grin karma and all that!

Not actually sure what else I've achieved today...not a lot. And we have visitors tomorrow, relatives we haven't seen for years. Feeling slightly self conscious about the house.

No decluttering as yet today Hmm

To do
Make dinner - mackerel, potato salad and green salad
Decluttering

Hope everyone ok I'm feeling ever so slightly harassed as ds hasn't had a proper nap for three days and counting.

Spreadingcudweed · 22/08/2018 17:18

Fingers crossed you all like it Foxes! Always slightly nerve-wracking when one recommends a recipe; the only slightly tricky bit is the point at which you combine melted butter and eggs - obviously melted butter can't be too hot - and did I mention (can't remember) that I cooked it for a lot less time than recommended because I used a 23cm cake tin (one where bottom comes out) instead of 20 cm? Hope it goes ok anyway!!
Very useful recipe s good as desert or cake ifyswim. Oh yes and I used mixed spice with cinnamon because I didn't have ground cloves. All much of a muchness I think.

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/08/2018 17:19

Oh dear foxes hard when they get over tired but don't want that top up nap ..
Dinner sounds lovely

I'm making spaghetti with roasted squash (with thyme and garlic)and chop raw tomatoes tossed thru it.sprinkled drowned in lashings of grated cheese

Tada
Sorted 4crates that had been stashed in the boy dungeon.we have two playmobil horse farms(one big, one small) and had about 20 pots Rock hard playdoh(plus crate cutters)cutters can go into loft ready for grandchildren one day
Desicion pending which horse farm gets temporary right to stay.oolets been asked for ruthless decluttering if Playmobil as it's taken over and isn't really play with muchhardly ever anymore.cash made selling will fund some furniture requirements to do up the dungeon....
Rescued demolished Playmobil mansion.discovered mould/mildew spots...wipe over and rebuild
Move Lego and jigsaws into corner where unit was
Borrow mower and cut grass
Return mower

To do
Ironing
Dinner
Flop in exhausted heap!!

Spreadingcudweed · 22/08/2018 17:20

You are on a roll Zoo!

Hope your ds goes back to napping soon Foxes!!

foxessocks · 22/08/2018 17:21

sc well I have no idea what dh is doing I'm not getting involved too much as I've already made a comment that it's taking quite a while and he's in the way for me making dinner and he got cross so I've backed off Grin we shall see!

foxessocks · 22/08/2018 17:22

Tbf I think ds would still nap when at home but we've been out over his usual nap time a lot recently and he hasnt slept in the car like he used to. I hope he still sleeps at home anyway!! Shock

Spreadingcudweed · 22/08/2018 17:25

Oh dear! Perhaps he is taking his time arranging apple slices in circles! Smile Hope you all enjoy it anyway!

Spreadingcudweed · 22/08/2018 17:28

I remember when dd was that age one of my "guru" infant advice books saying that if your baby or toddler automatically fell asleep in the car then they are definitely tired and need a nap (ie that was a good way of testing it). I am sure there are others on here who can offer much better advice though!

foxessocks · 22/08/2018 17:34

That's interesting sc. He never does anymore really Confused but last time I put him down in his bed he went to sleep so...not sure what that means then!! That was only about 4 days ago. If he's giving up his nap then I'm going to officially lose my mind!!!

HillsBesideTheSea · 22/08/2018 17:54

Infant books are a lot of bollocks. has opinions your child can be absolutely cream crackered, not sleep in buggy or pushchair or fucking at all anywhere and still be very tired.

foxes could it be that his routine has been disrupted and that is why he is not napping. Some children are very sensitive to routine changes and this can lead to impact in sleeping. some children just don't fucking sleep no matter how much they need it

goes to grab a very large drink from the naughty corner bar because opinions need stiffling

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/08/2018 18:13

Lil zoo and D's gave up naps at a year and were bloody horrible by 4pm

foxessocks · 22/08/2018 18:14

Probably hills we've been out and about at different times than usual because of summer holidays , I can't always stick to being at home olin the afternoon as not fair on dd. He does like a routine when he's at home definitely! Fingers crossed he gets back into it. Think we'll be here for nap time tomorrow so we'll see how it goes!

foxessocks · 22/08/2018 18:15

zoo Shock how did you survive?! Dd was 2.5 when she dropped her nap completely. Exactly when ds was born in fact Hmm

foxessocks · 22/08/2018 18:31

sc no pretty patterns with the apple but it looks good I think and it's delicious (especially with lots of Ice cream!)

foxessocks · 22/08/2018 18:32

Not sure if the photo worked ...

Spreadingcudweed · 22/08/2018 18:50

Whey hey! Very well done MrFoxes!

I think some infants can get over-tired and then adrenaline kicks in and then they don't sleep because of that, even though they definitely need to ifyswim. DD definitely went through a phase of that! Hope a more structured routine (easy to say I know!!) sorts it out anyway Foxes.

foxessocks · 22/08/2018 19:17

Hope so sc I'm sure things will settle down once dd at school full time

And now I have cake to offer my guests tomorrow morning! Good result.

Ta da
Washing folded and put away
Dishwasher on again
Tidied toys before bedtime
Wiped kitchen sides

To do

foxessocks · 22/08/2018 19:31

Sorry I've really thread hogged today! Final work from me today - ds has learnt how to take his nappy off and discovered it delays bedtime really well 🤦

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/08/2018 19:53

Oh no foxes
And it's not thread hogging at all!!cake looks delish!
I was like an apocalyptic zombie, that's how I survived and required copious amounts of chocolate and sweets to keep me awake!

Tadas
Pile ironing demolished and put away
Darned hole in bum if lil zoo favourite mlp leggings
Sewed up seam that split on pair dd2 oh shorts(freshly ironed not worn n stinky!!)

Made lil zoo and D's meatballs, pasta, roasted squash and raw diced tomatoes with garlic n thyme
Washed up

My dinners in oven
Lil zoo taking her laxido(2sachets twice a day and increments go up two sachets a day til she blows, then 2-4 sachets a day to maintain a daily(or twice daily) movement)as I type.ds scoffing Maryland coconut choc chip cookies...if my dinner wasn't near ready I'd be pinching one or5

Have good evening everyone!

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/08/2018 19:54

You know I ment pj shorts....

MeetOnTheLedge · 22/08/2018 21:12

Sorry, been AWOL again.

Zoo - what an amazing job you did with the decorating, well done!

Bower - so glad you managed to get away in the end, sounds as though you had a lovely break.

Foxes - car mat was popular here and remains in DS's room even though he is a teenager, he is still fond of it.

Well, it's been a busy few days. DH was away over the weekend, and is away again now till next week. I've been out the last two nights, to the theatre in London last night so not back till nearly midnight. Therefore not much Flying. However I'm at home for the next two days so can hopefully get back on top of things.

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/08/2018 01:06

zoo ds also gave up naps early (7months) and was never keen on sleep so never really did that newborn sleep all the time thing. I suspect this and the fact he still does not fucking sleep despite his level of exhaustion might be why I have opinions

ta da
Procrastination!!!!!!!!!

Blush Grin

I did go training though and will completely regret it tomo as I pushed a little too hard and stairs are way to much effort for tired and sore muscles.

Bowerbird5 · 23/08/2018 02:55

Zoo can I have some of your energy please. You are on a roll.

Ta das
Went to optician and need new glasses as suspected.tried on a few pairs but needed to be back at car.
Did three loads of washing. Sheets, duvet, towels.
Wiped around kitchen after DD made lunch and washed up.
One and a half hours ironing
Changed bed sheets for friend of DDs to stay.
Dd made lunch and supper And vacuumed through.
Had a good day all in all

Spreadingcudweed · 23/08/2018 04:22

Bloomin 'eck! There are two bats in our bedroom!

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/08/2018 05:36
