Fledglings are awesome in August - the Flylady thread

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

This is the August thread so I am reliably informed that it is usually more of a general chat thread. Links won’t be posted by an official ‘thread leader’ every day but I will leave some links in this OP. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Happy flying everyone.

IVEgotthePOWER · 20/08/2018 09:11

You done so much zoo ⭐ Bet your girls will love it

Cagliostro · 20/08/2018 12:32

Yes you've done amazingly! Glad DD1 and her fiance have helped out too.

Taking a break as I got all wobbly and shaky. But DH brought down a load of the BRCs remaining from the move and we sorted quite a bit. Mostly just shoving things in the right place for now but it's an improvement. We are now at the "worse before it gets better" stage as there's a lot of stuff we don't know what to do with yet. So we will still have a big BRC with all the last bits and pieces. We have also repurposed a couple of boxes for "random paperwork" (we will get a box file to put any new house stuff in to keep it safe, and then gradually go through the old stuff) and "home ed stuff" as we haven't decided where to put it yet. Also some of it is things like model kits that need using up, might use them for summer holiday projects actually, rather than waiting until term time.

HonkyWonkWoman · 20/08/2018 13:05

Wow Zoo! You've been so busy, I'm sure zoolets will be thrilled when they return.
Sorry he's still being useless Ive!
Everyone seems so busy, apart from Bower having your break in Northumberland! Great that you both got away in the end, it will have done you good.

Ta da
Fed 🐱 and 🐕
Empty dw
Towel wash on
Dust and polish downstairs
Wash faux flowers and peg on washing line.
Get distracted outside and start dead-heading.

To do
Clean bathroom
Clean kitchen
Vacuum top to bottom
Sweep and mop kitchen

It's very difficult to get my house guest ready as I have on going work still needs doing from having the new central heating system and kitchen work.
Any way Df is coming for the day tomorrow and I know friends don't really care about the state of your house but I need to make the effort so at least it will be tidy and clean.

Wing flaps to all.....

Spreadingcudweed · 20/08/2018 14:23

Zoo it all sounds amazing! The Zoolets will Iove it!! Glitterball. Hope you have a lovely reunion tonight!! X

Good luck Honky and CAG with everything that needs doing!

Wing flaps to everyone else!

Havent gone yet. Dealing with a vomiting dog and uncertain travel arrangements. (Sigh.) I get that dh can't plan because of his work but it doesn't get any easier as the years go on. No idea what we are doing as it changes from one day to next.

DD is in the do!drums because she has realised her maths re-sit in in a week and a half!! I researched a tutor at beginning of hols who lives locally and would come out twice a week to help her but she "preferred to do it herself". Half way through hols, when next to work has been done, I offered again but was met with same response. Now she is panicking. I despair!

Sorry for whinge. Bit tired today. Better go and check on furry.

Spreadingcudweed · 20/08/2018 14:27

Honky you have huge sympathies from me re: trying to wrangle house in to visitor-ready state when work is on-going. That is the story of my life and it is not at all easy! Good luck with it! Flowers

Cagliostro · 20/08/2018 16:14

Right so most of the stuff that we had got out of the boxes has been put away! Some in the big BRC as expected but not too much.

Have now got more empty boxes and the girls' room is a lot clearer. We also set up the BRCWSC (Bag of Random Crap Within a Specific Category :o) for paperwork and home ed stuff. I have been looking at storage solutions for the kitchen - little wire shelves to stack plates, tins etc, and mug hooks. Need to order tesco later. Caglets not doing taekwondo as they're both injured.

Realised we will have been here a month tomorrow!

HonkyWonkWoman · 20/08/2018 17:02

Been out to Garden Centre and bought three new houseplants. I realised that I hadn't bothered replacing some that I'd thrown away as I couldn't see the point until the house finished.
They have made such a difference!

Cagliostro · 20/08/2018 17:11

That's great honky what did you get? I asked my friend for something unkillable and she brought a phalaenopsis and a kalanchoe complete with very easy instructions! I'd also like a cheeseplant and snakeplant at some point.

I am feeling really blah this evening despite having achieved a decent amount, and may actually kill someone if I don't have chocolate.

HonkyWonkWoman · 20/08/2018 17:31

They didn't have a massive choice to be fair Cag but I got a Dumb Cane, a Heartleaf Philodendron and a good old Spider Plant!
I know some people can't be doing with house plants but I feel that they make such a difference to the house.
Or it might be just me that thinks that as flowers and plants really cheer me up.

Cagliostro · 20/08/2018 17:52

No not just you, I have always wanted to have some but with such a horrid tiny house there was no space or energy left to even consider it. I always said I want plants as soon as we move so when my friend who is a gardening expert asked what she could pick up in ikea I said plants! I would like to build up slowly over the autumn and winter as we won't be planting anything outside yet. I'd also like an aloe vera.

Ideally we will have plants all along the top of the kallax. The ceilings here are higher than the old house and there's a fair bit of space, I think it would look lovely with ferns etc. But there is currently stuff on top of them so I can't rush into any more purchases!

foxessocks · 20/08/2018 18:51

I love houseplants but I'm totally hopeless. My latest one seems to be dying Sad

Ta da
Worked
Made shortbread
Hoovered whole house
Swept kitchen
Put towels in wash
Cooked dinner - chicken pie and veg followed by berries and cream
Hung washing up
Dusted

Didn't quite get all the home bleugh done today but am trying to cut myself some slack, it's been full on today so I'll just do some more tomorrow.

Tomorrow's to do list carried over from today because there are just not enough hours!
Mop
Change dc beds
Empty nappy bin
More decluttering - probably jewellery and I'll just get it ready to go on my new shelf if dh finishes it at some point...I did all my make up and nail varnishes yesterday and actually managed to get rid of a huge box from my dressing table. Cut it down to two jars one with make up brushes in and one with nail varnishes and the rest of my make up in one small bag put away. I'm chuffed with it!

Then the usual Tuesday stuff of meal planning etc (which is my favourite thing saddo that I am!)

Hope everyone doing okay! Sc hope your dd gets revising , I remember being an annoying teen and putting everything off to the last minute.

foxessocks · 20/08/2018 18:53

Really need to load the dishwasher tonight as the kitchen sink is full to bursting.

MeetOnTheLedge · 20/08/2018 19:20

I've always had houseplants but I'm sad this year as my beloved schefflera (umbrella plant) died on me a few months before we celebrated 30 years and 11 houses/flats together.

HillsBesideTheSea · 20/08/2018 19:50

I bow down to your superior skills meet I am constantly baffled by how I have managed to keep myself alive for 30 years let alone a plant. plants have no chance atm and tbh I am not entirely sure how I am still alive either atm Blush

ta da
work
pick something up for tea
not fall asleep before 6pm

flying fail. night night

Spreadingcudweed · 20/08/2018 20:10

Grin Hills

Congrats on 30 yrs together Meet that's amazing!! (Wish they had champagne emoticon on here!)

11 moves must have been hard though ... hats off for that!

Btw, apologies for my earlier comments complaining about not knowing timing of travel plans. They were insensitive given that not everyone has opportunity to go away. This isn't a holiday (more of another flat clearing expedition with DH rellies) but still should not be whining as in nice place.

Didn't get a lot done today apart from horse-poo picking, dog-vomit clearing and trying to be patient with DD who is in pain again (female issues). Apparently all my fault because she has inherited my dodgy womb!! My stomach is feeling off tonight too so poss we all have bug. Who knows? Let's just hope dodgy plumbing stays in good order!

Can't wait to hear how Zoolets reacted to their newly decorated rooms btw! Love a big reveal Grin

Spreadingcudweed · 20/08/2018 20:11

Foxes well done re: make up & jewellery decluttering and organisation! You are unstoppable!

HonkyWonkWoman · 20/08/2018 21:54

That's amazing Meet!
The longest I've kept a houseplant is about 10 years. It was a succulent that Dd bought for a birthday or Mothers day and it just put up with any amount of neglect and grew and grew. Twice in that time, it threw up a huge spike and flowered which was a thrill.
I'm no expert by the way. I've tried all different sorts of things in my bathroom and nothing survives. One of my Df has a fern in hers and it looks lovely.

Bowerbird5 · 20/08/2018 22:03

Back home now.

We had a lovely drive along the coast and then went to Alnwick gardens. Really enjoyed it. Some beautiful roses. Spent about five hours there. We will go back to see the castle we thought there wasn't enough time to do both and we were right.

Back to flying tomorrow. New washing machine is being delivered so getting to grips with that. I have plenty of washing to catch up on.

Hills sorry to hear your feeling like that. I hope you feel better soon.

HillsBesideTheSea · 20/08/2018 22:11

Grin bower I have a tendancy to do stupid shit sometimes. I have lost count of the number of kettles and toasters I have blown up. Then there was the microwave on christmas morning one year. Seriously I must have some seriously patience guardian angle because really, I do some stupid shit Grin

SassitudeandSparkle · 20/08/2018 23:10

I am back from our short break, it was lovely. I am also guilty of being on the Christmas threads, I will keep it off here though.

I've Flowers be kind to yourself.
Good building work there zoo, feels great to get things sorted.

I am shattered, have not flown at all today. Tomorrow holds promise, coffee and chocolate though
