Fledglings are awesome in August - the Flylady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 31/07/2018 19:05

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

This is the August thread so I am reliably informed that it is usually more of a general chat thread. Links won’t be posted by an official ‘thread leader’ every day but I will leave some links in this OP. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Happy flying everyone.

I can only assume the school may have problems with attendence on the whole maybe hills

Ds1 is year 6 this sept so obv i need to be more aware of making sure he is not missing his sats stuff etc. Need to look into this.

Then next year ds2 is year 6 so i can do it all again Shock

HillsBesideTheSea · 18/08/2018 09:09

Possibly or just a head that cares more about rules and rule adherence than the actual welfare of the kids. there are too many of those about, but they can kill a school. And from what she was saying the head is fairly new at the school, there has been all sorts of changes like complete uniform redesign etc. which makes me think it is a head issue.

HillsBesideTheSea · 18/08/2018 09:11

I am just glad it is not ds in that school but he is secondary and heading up for GCSEs rapidly... days off are not in ds' favour, hey ho. We will have to see what the pead says when we eventually see him.

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/08/2018 09:35

Agree hills D's school is like bloody Gestapo on uniform/attendance.ive had numerous unannounced homr visits when he's been off(concussion/chrst infection on antibiotics and not eating/labrynthitis-hardly fit to go)someone at my church was threaten fines for orthodontal in school hours.nhs service is whatever time they offer, private are out of school hours.she gave them the £4000 bill and said you can pay or he has NHS work.tjat shit them up!!😂

Tada
Photo dropped off, ready to collect after one or tomorrow if I don't get time to pop back out
Picked up cheap litter picker as there are loo roll tubes breeding behind as well as beside loo.i think last time record has been beaten😒😒😒

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/08/2018 09:36

Should've said shut them up but it did shit them up a bit too.hahahaha

HonkyWonkWoman · 18/08/2018 09:41

If I was you Bower I'd book something myself, either on my own or with a friend.

We've got a df with a husband like yours at the moment, he won't do anything for her relaxation, like going to a Show or little weekend away, so she's started joining in with me an my bf (both men free) and left him to it.
We were out last night at a Great American Singers Night, (impersonators)
Johnny Cash, Niel Diamond, Everly Bros and Elvis. It's was a great night and she loved it but she said even if she'd booked something like this for her and "D"h, he would have moaned and if he'd gone, he would have pulled his face and spoiled it for her.

What's wrong with them????

HonkyWonkWoman · 18/08/2018 09:47

Xpost Bower! I didn't see the post where you're thinking of booking a little trip for yourself. Just do it!
Do you draw or paint? Or just make it a relaxing, sightseeung, reading, cinema week somewhere different. It isn't as much fun in your own but it will be very relaxing for you.
Leave him to look after the cat 🐱 😂😂😂😂😂😂

foxessocks · 18/08/2018 10:29

[Snaffles a fig roll from Zoo's supply]

Go Bower! The force of the fledglings is with you! A painting/cultural holiday is a great idea Honky !

I've and Foxes sorry that is really crap about lack of holidays ; you really deserve a break.

New wm has arrived this morning! Thank heavens ; clean clothes supplies were running low! A Samsung. Looks pretty good. Going to try it out. Then need to put away the dry washing up in kitchen. Then off to buy more horse supplies in nearby village. Then helping DH moving wood piles with tractor. Then horse poo picking and water trough emptying, cleaning and filling.

Good luck with your humongous list Hills hope you get to training!

Meet good work re: BRC declutteration!

Sorry anxiety is high Cag Flowers

More power to your elbow re: painting deadlines today Zoo! The force of the fledglings is with you too!

Wing flaps to all (not forgetting Honu)!

foxessocks · 18/08/2018 11:17

Tbf we did have a holiday this year (this country but I certainly don't mind that at all!) Just don't see us having another for a year or two but you never know. Our savings keep getting eaten into for the car, house etc. Anyway holidays aren't really holidays with really young children!

Ta da
Washing on

Have given myself a scratchy throat shouting at the dc this morning they are just constantly fighting because they're both tired. Dd was up at 6.30 which isn't usual for her so now she's grumpy. And ds is just always tired and grumpy because he's nearly 2 and everything is so frustrating for him! Dh has gone somewhere to help my dad with something and I'm really looking forward to him coming home so he can help although probably by the time he gets in ds will be having a nap and peace will be restored and he'll wonder what I'm complaining about!! Hmm

We got the train set out but ds kept hitting dd with the trains so I had to put it away which isn't really fair on dd but she wasn't really helping matters as she kept shouting at ds every time he tried to help. Anyway. The TV is on now which I don't feel that good about but at least they are quiet.

I should get on really but feel tired now. And we are going out later on and the dc are probably going to have a late night so that's going to be fun Confused

foxessocks · 18/08/2018 11:18

Sorry that was a mega whinge!!! It's really not that bad

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/08/2018 12:02

Aw.you should have Cake before you stop any partyGrin*foxes"

Spreadingcudweed · 18/08/2018 12:04

Don't apologise for whinging Foxes it is relentless with little ones your age (I found it hard going with just one on occasion) and it is particularly crap when one's other half disappears off on a Saturday when you were anticipating sharing the load a bit!!

IVEgotthePOWER · 18/08/2018 12:08

foxes my ds3 and dd are similar ages to your too, i find it a tricky age gap. My dd spends half the day winding him up on purpose Hmm

foxessocks · 18/08/2018 12:44

That's it ive she winds him up but in a very subtle way (she's too clever for me!!) so then you're never sure who's actual fault it is! I totally understand both their points of view tbf, he spoils her complicated games because he doesnt really understand what she's trying to do and she won't let him do any of the things he is trying to do because he's too slow or not doing it properly!

Made pancakes for lunch zoo with lots of chocolate spread it definitely helped Grin

Thanks sc I do feel at the end of my tether by the end of the week! Dh usually works weekends as well so you'd think I'd be used to it!!

IVEgotthePOWER · 18/08/2018 13:02

Our dd is as subtle as a brick Hmm

Ta da

Wash on x2
Dryer on
Washing on line
Kitchen bin empty
Recycling out
Shopping picked up
Emailed new job
Stripped cot

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/08/2018 13:19

I'm sure pancakes with chocolate spread did help foxes

DS is my winder upper,he excels at the subtlety too.dd2 blows when she realises he's been reeling her in and BANG ww3 erupts!!

HillsBesideTheSea · 18/08/2018 16:47

to do list
get up
hand washing 2 loads done
1st load into the washing machine
rest of laundry - 3rd load on
board - out and cleaned - leave to dry before away

clothes away!
count how many hangers are needed - write on list 1 pack

Oh and sort sill and paint blanket box!!

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/08/2018 17:28
Honu · 18/08/2018 18:04

Bower Dh has just got more sense than to try making any decisions about the kitchen! But I do love my Everhot which I have had for over 8 years. They give out about 0.5 KWh. I think the new (and very expensive) Total Control Agas do roughly what an EH does, cost more money but have better snob value. I wouldn't dream of having a more conventional Aga - as so much more difficult to switch off in the heat, to control, they need servicing ...

Really sorry to hear of niggling children. I remember longing for the summer holidays then, a couple of weeks in, thinking I'd had enough of them.

This summer has been rubbish. 2 months of very hot was much too long. I am ill and need to get better SOON! House is a tip - no flying!

Spreadingcudweed · 18/08/2018 19:35

Great to "see" you Honu really sorry you are unwell though. That must be doubly tough in a caring role Flowers. Do you get any respite at all?

[SC carefully manoeuvres mini-tractor with trailer-full of Belgian chocolate in to naughty corner for Zoo and others to help themselves.]

Bloody well done for 12-hr decorating stint Zoo!! Star. Don't forget to eat some supper with the chocolate!

Great lists I've and Hills! Star and Star

Enjoy training Hills!

Waves to Foxes and everyone else!

Dhorse was trying it on a bit with DD tonight the blighter. She was a bit taken aback I think as he has been so kind to date. He just look one look at big field and thought "bugger I'm going to have to do some work here" and tried to head back the other way.It is admittedly a bit disconcerting when he does this as he is a big boy! I told her it was classic horse behaviour once they get comfortable somewhere; they always test you a bit, so she got off and walked him for a bit and then got back on and there endeth the lesson on a positive note. Phew! She is going to have to be stricter with him from the offset tomorrow.

Horses are just like DC in this respect; they can really tell when you "mean it" and vice versa! They can sense your energy; not in woo woo way at all but in same way if you are telling off a toddler for painting themselves purple while secretly laughing inside!! They just know you are not saying it with inner conviction Grin

Just typing this while stirring some tomato sauce that has been simmering for a couple of hrs this afternoon! Pasta again for supper!

Ta da:
Horse poo picking
Trough cleaning & water changing
Grooming
Tack cleaning
Trip to feed shop and chemist

Two loads washing! Yay! We now have clean smalls!
