Fledglings are awesome in August - the Flylady thread

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

This is the August thread so I am reliably informed that it is usually more of a general chat thread. Links won’t be posted by an official ‘thread leader’ every day but I will leave some links in this OP. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

August’s habit is laundry

Happy flying everyone.

Going to be honest but just want to go training again tonight. But laundry. Gotta wash some training kit and as it is hand wash no dryer tonight is not an option. Soon. I have promised myself soon. Grin

Right I should probably head out and get the first lot of stuff done...

foxessocks · 17/08/2018 18:00

Thanks for the tip sc i know I'll forgetGrin

Done lots of tidying and we've had dinner just waiting for dd to arrive home to tell us all about her theatre trip. Wonder if she managed to sit still for 2.5 hours!?

SassitudeandSparkle · 17/08/2018 18:41

Just quickly coming on to say that we are going away for the weekend - I will try and pick up tips from the completely bare plush hotel room to inspire me on our return.

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/08/2018 19:10

Given up for today.had scrape of some wallpaper which was soul destroyingly difficult.id hoped paint over it but had odd plasticky feel that paint wouldn't sit in.has balls up my itinery for the weekend.iwanted a paint complete today.i still need finish scraping that wall, paint it with four coats of lilac(dd1 got some at lunchtime and just drop it on her way home from work bless her) then need to skirts of that wallI'd hoped to do a house blitz tomorrow
Dd1 has asked if id like to go IKEA Sunday and then her fiance has been volunteered to put up shelves and a desk so dd2 will have her study area finally sorted as part of room make over!!
Assuming. Up to it that'll be Sunday
Thenonday will need finish sorting homes in the girls room for things so it's ready for their return.no time for a day of just chilling and baking as I'd hoped Monday would be.oh well!

I am go vegetate in front of TV.ovens on I think i might roast me some veg and add cheese at last minute so it melts invitingly over the top.i am beyond bone achingly tired(3hoirs sleep,up before 5)but alas not sleepy..hope I feel bitore cheery tomorrow.now I've stopped I'm missing the what times dinner,X did this/that/the other, can I have a drink/snack/insert whatever else here.
Miss the conversation too,but most of all i miss my funny little family

HillsBesideTheSea · 17/08/2018 21:20

Hope you manage to have a good evening Zoo

Ran one errand - unfortunately it was the school uniform errand and they didn't have ds' size in so going to have to click and collect but at least i know what size he will need now well until he comes home a few days before school and has grown several inches

Contacts and eyes were not playing nice together so took them out when I got home (the contacts not eyes) Kinda hit a slump and curled up in bed with more energy than to permit sleep but so tired all the mehs are present. Frustrating is becoming my word of the month...

Hope you are all having lovely evenings

Spreadingcudweed · 17/08/2018 21:22

Have a lovely weekend away Sass!

Your weekend plan sounds good Zoo although sounds like a lot of work too! For the stubborn wallpaper, could you hire a steamer for the w/e maybe? It might do it in half the time!

Waves to Foxes and Hills and everyone else! We've been out for another long dog walk, followed by beer and frites tonight; followed by Sherlock at home.

MeetOnTheLedge · 17/08/2018 23:13

Mammoth charity shop run today - two big boxes of books bought two books on the way out of the shop. Three binbags of clothes and three carriers of random crap. Introduced DS (14) to the expression BRC - he has a lot of random crap. We cleared all his into a box today for sorting tomorrow. Feeling determined to get clutter back under control.

Bowerbird5 · 18/08/2018 00:41

Imagine lots of teenage boys saying BRCs😁

Well we got back at tea time picked DD up from work, went to supermarket where I met a member of staff who tells me she has resigned in hols. Shame she was good with kids and I helped her last year when she was training as a TA. Little one gave me lots of hugs. They invited me around to their new house. 😀

Saw lots of stoves. Different sizes and colours. Still not 100% sure but DH says Everhot so probably get that it seems to be cheaper to run my only reservation is it might not put out as much heat into the room as the AGA. DH informed me he had ordered the WM😳 Without asking which I wanted. He hadn't checked the depth against the plans but arranged for it to come on Tuesday.😗 No mention all day about holiday. Not so much as a weekend away. The thought of two hours looking at kitchens and lunch late plus the longish drive being my holiday got me a bit weepy. I can't seem to get through to him I really need a few days away from everything. Eventually he agreed to take me away... For the night! I was really pissed off so went to see BF. Tea and sympathy. I wished I had never believed he was going to take me he is just full of shit! Sorry.😢

Sc DD used to get a veggie box from that company when she was at uni( so we knew she wasn't starving) the recipe sounds good I used to make something similar with plums but on top. Will try to remember to look out recipe tomorrow.

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/08/2018 04:47

bower sorry DH is being such an insensitive TWUNTFlowers

SC alas, funds are more watertight than a ducks arse so no stripper for me!!

Scoutcat has been allowed a second night indoors he thinks this means he can wake me at 4am for breakfast.he was headbop/rub me and when I put hand over face his foot slip in and gentle claws.erm no love I am not getting up at this hour esp when you have a bowl of kibble feet away(I was asleep on sofa)
My to do has my head whirring,so no more sleep for me but principal of no breakfast til at least 5 means I can lay here and MN/Pinterest/alphabetty for a little bit!!

Cagliostro · 18/08/2018 06:16

Cass I forgot to say the BRC is usually the result of a 'stash and dash' (which I think is an original flylady term?) - when you end up shoving everything into a bag or box to get it out of the way (especially common when expecting visitors). Story of my life.

Ugh anxiety high this morning so have come downstairs. One day I might actually start cleaning at this ungodly hour. But for now I have a headache and just meh. So I am curled up with MN instead.

Bower please just book something for yourself and go! I reckon DH doesn't think you will do it. Show him. Seriously. 😘💐

I said to DH we need to have another unpacking day. We have definitely relaxed into being in our new home and have been doing pretty well at cleaning it as we go, but there are lots of BRCs left and we totally stalled on sorting them out. I've been doing little bits and pieces here and there but it's time to attack it properly. Cagletini's bit (in the big bedroom, she will be in with us for another year or so but we have already put a divider up ready for when she moves in with DD1) is full of boxes! And there's a few downstairs still too. Plus we really need to sort out the downstairs cupboard before term starts.

I may have to write a new list in the Moving Notebook!

IVEgotthePOWER · 18/08/2018 06:33

Morning all

bower sorry to hear you are also suffering with the man in your life

zoo good luck with the wallpaper/paint

Yesterday i painted the longest wall in the kitchen, white. Boring.

Couple of short days in new job next week. Also need sort childcare for sept.

Bowerbird5 · 18/08/2018 07:22

Thanks folks I feel a bit better this morning.
It does seem to be doing the rounds at the moment...men behaving badly.
Part of the problem has been DD coming home with the cat. She is a dear little cat but I didn't sign up for looking after her instead of going on holiday. When I said she could bring her home I didn't know DD had booked a festival and the long weekend away( my church weekend) and I also thought DD would get a job locally which she has had before and could cycle to work and look after her own cat while WE went on holiday. In hindsight I should have left them to it and gone by myself. It just isn't much fun on your own. I think I will book something for next week but it also limits the area. Due to stress I feel quite anxious at the moment and the likes of France, Channel Islands etc is therefore out. It will have to be fairly local and it is raining up here. 15 C yesterday all day.

To Do
I have a washing mountain.
Sort two bags of RC school.
Tackle the craft room.
Pile of ironing. DH got ironing board out a few days ago. Not sure what that gesture was about as he didn't actually do any !
This is if we are not going. Or I might just pack a bag, take car and go with tent.

IVEgotthePOWER · 18/08/2018 07:25

We havent had a holiday this year. Its crap. I am looking at going somewhere early april i think. 🏖

foxessocks · 18/08/2018 08:22

We did have a holiday this year but I think that'll be it for a few years unless I start earning more as now dd starting school holidays go up in price don't they?! (As you are all very aware of Grin)

HillsBesideTheSea · 18/08/2018 08:24

Morning

About to become caffeinated and get going. I have promised myself I can go training IF I get enough done today. I feel that that will be sufficiently motivation. And will definitely result in laundry getting done which is getting into ridiculousness as currently no training clothes clean...

Ta da list to follow in a while but the computer is going to get turned off and put away for a while. Needs must.

IVEgotthePOWER · 18/08/2018 08:29

foxes my usual tactic re holidays and school aged dc is to take them out of school a couple of days before they actually break up. This does reduce costs. I believe they cant fine for less than 5 days

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/08/2018 08:32

bower can't you go few days with bf?
Cag at present D's room is received(room random crap) housing stuff exodused(sp?)from girls room

I have finally got last bastardjng bits wallpaper off(3fecking hour of scraping this morning)

As many of you reember dd beloved cat died (a year ago march) and I've beeneaning get a gorgeous photo I have of him in santa hat reprinted and framed for her.i got frame a while ago,but funds get diverted to next bloody emergency so I've not got the photo done.anyhoo yesterday j discovered I can get it done locally note trail into town as I'd thought so that's next on the list

To do
4coats lilac on walls
Skirts,sills and curtain post painted
Second coat doors and panelled cupboard doors

Blitz house

All this HAS to be completed today as I will DIE if dd2 fiance comes in to put up shelves in this state of dishevelment

Must crack on!!

Cagliostro · 18/08/2018 08:33

We didn't either due to moving costs. Would like to next year, probably same place as last year but longer (Jurassic Coast, fossil hunting) as it'll be the first trip with five of us. We are going to stay with DSD at her uni house next month though which will be fun!

Sounds like you have a DD problem as well as a DH problem, she could surely use a cattery or get a taxi to work for a few days?! It is a shame you are limited on area now, what about a nearby city and travelodge or something? Is there an exhibition or anything that takes your fancy. It's almost as much for the principle of it now, to say look, I really meant it you inconsiderate git and hopefully they will both learn to be less selfish.

I managed to doze off again for a bit but was woken up first by the DVD player going funny, then the phone ringing. Also had an episode of sleep paralysis which always unsettles me so now I feel all weird.

Parcel collecting and printing to do today, friends popping by too but no idea when yet which isn't terribly helpful.

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/08/2018 08:33

Recieved,curse you phone RRC

HillsBesideTheSea · 18/08/2018 08:34

Some school will fine for less than 5 days ive it is very area and school dependant. I was speaking to someone at work who is getting fined for 3 days. But in her words the fine is £160 for her child, the child missing the 3 days saves a grand she is just paying the fine because it is the most cost effective way for her to have the holiday.

IVEgotthePOWER · 18/08/2018 08:39

A fine for 3 days is pathetic hills! Our local authority also dont fine if attendence is over 94%. Seems we are lucky.

HillsBesideTheSea · 18/08/2018 08:43

Hmm plan of attack
find something to throw on for now
hand washing
1st load into the washing machine
rest of laundry
board - out and cleaned - leave to dry before away
foam mats - ditto
clean clothes into neat piles on the bed from floor mountain
clear path to wardrobe
clothes away!
count how many hangers are needed - write on list
Create list of ikea bits I have forgotten but need to get
wash stones for fish tank
cut underlay
fill tank and add chemical treatment
rubbish out
recycling out
Opticians appointment Don't forget this leave at 1pm!
========================== (minimum before i can go training)
add new poppers to duvet cover - i have a machine thingy it is easy no idea why not done before (doh moment when I realised it was fixable)
Sort paperwork from floor
finish making the thing that needs to be delivered
Get machine made up for the finishing of things - encourage the person to finishing something (4 button holes and some edging is needed to finish 3 things)

And that is more than realistic for 1 day. Especially as tomo i need to spend the day plugged into the computer doing all the techy things. Gotta finish a work project and am getting absolutely no time at all at work to do it atm, so just going to have to get done on a day off. Will be a huge weight off my shoulders when it is done!

HillsBesideTheSea · 18/08/2018 08:46

I know ive and I don't know another school locally that fines so readily. Definitely seems to be done to the head teacher and school ethos. It is madness!

Ds doesn't take him off for holidays but his attendance is SHIT. And he has a lot of time off poorly. It is an issue. Which reminds me, I need to hunt out ALLLLL the paperwork and ring school when they go back. schedules were not able to be coordinated so we never did get a follow up appointment.

Bowerbird5 · 18/08/2018 08:48

Goodness I don't think our school has ever fined anyone.

DD came in plonked the cat on the bed and said she didn't know if DH was taking me but she had sorted her OH to come and stay for weekend.

Catteries up here are all full. Neighbours had to ask someone in village to feed and put theirs out.
I didn't have a holiday last year either. I had a couple of days near sisters. I have had a couple of weekends with church but it was working party weekends. Busy but fun.
It wouldn't matter so much if it wasn't the stress from work.
If DH had come home and said we weren't going I would have arranged a few days near sis or down at house with church. I could have gone there for nothing. It is the leading me to believe then not going. DH has a bit of form for this. DD and I went on holiday for 8 years without him. A taxi would be about £30. I will go away for weekend if he doesn't take me.

HillsBesideTheSea · 18/08/2018 08:56

Sounds like a plan Bower Do it!
