Fledglings are awesome in August - the Flylady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 31/07/2018 19:05

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

This is the August thread so I am reliably informed that it is usually more of a general chat thread. Links won’t be posted by an official ‘thread leader’ every day but I will leave some links in this OP. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Happy flying everyone.

Circs - not circa!

Sorry you had such stressful evenings Meet and Foxes!

Waves to Cassandra and everyone else!

I can't really criticise DH because although he is incredibly messy around the home (leaves a trail of papers, books, cables, shoes, coins in his wake wherever he goes) and creates loads of mess in the kitchen (cooking is his relaxation) - and doesnt seem to "see" mess or dirt in the same way I do (literally if there is a c!ear surface anywhere he will clutter it up ) but he does work and work and work (almost to a fault). He also does all finances and cars.

Meet you do loads in addition to working!

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/08/2018 07:31

Tada
Two coats paint on wall (with brief break for a fig roll)
Off to shops in mind as zoolets took last bread after D's decided needed a pack up to remind him of home, then girls wanted same and I'm left bread, crisp and biscuitless,so I'm off to rectify and gain chocolate supplies, which are purely fortifying comfort don't you knowGrin

foxessocks · 17/08/2018 07:41

Bloody hell zoo I'm still drinking my coffee in bed!! You're putting me to shame.

HillsBesideTheSea · 17/08/2018 08:00

zoo the only survival tip is to keep busy. Doesn't stop you missing them, just stops it becoming all encompasing. And keep talking on here if you need this. I used to feel like this with contact visits when ds was little (and 5 is very little for being away a week at a time with no contact whilst away) It does get easier the more it happens but that is irrelevant. This is not about long run this is about not. Hang in there, it'll be ok in the end.

I got in from work, and went to bed. Was too tired to even eat tea. Slept 14 hours and now got a headache but am feeling a lot better than i was!

to do
work
early night
as for flying - nope no flying. Just watch out for the list tomo

HillsBesideTheSea · 17/08/2018 08:01

Ah I see in my half asleep brain you already have been - good plan on the chocolate!

IVEgotthePOWER · 17/08/2018 08:19

Bowerbird5 · 17/08/2018 08:48

🍫🍩🍪🍫🍩🍪 For you zoo.

In amongst the decluttering and painting please have a mooch Ŷ day to yourself. Either go for a massage or haircut if you can afford it or something otherwise a soppy film, pile of magazines soak your feet, hands and some lovely moisturiser but something just for you. You deserve it.

Meet - I love his new programme
Love my Garden I bought the book. We are clearing some of ours in preparation for the summer house. DH has done the heavy digging. I am considering enrolling for course at local college but Wednesday is my only day off. It is a full day.
Well I am actually getting a day out.
Dd has offered to go to boyfriends so I can have a weekend away. I would really like her to stay here and look after cat, chicken and greenhouse however she says she will take cat with her.
This was not how my holiday was supposed to be. I wanted a week on an island, away to relax, go to the beach, read a book, have someone make my meals. Be lucky to get a weekend in the Lakes raining! Feeling a bit huffy today😤
Want to get ironing and vacuuming done before I leave for day out ...looking at cookers...again. DH should just chose he does this every bloody time we buy something. Tries to make it like it is my choice but apart from last one( dear mum was with me and couldn't believe the pantomine) and the Dyson (thank you man in local shop) he spends ages, says it is my choice ha! If I don't chose his choice he spends ages in shop persuading me otherwise till eventually I give up with embarrassment. Happened with last cooker and mum went to town on him next day while I was at work. It has lasted a long time😄 Only realised recently that he is a bloody control freak. He even sulks if he doesn't get his own way. No offence intended but he was an only child. I think he was pander to as a child. MIL was the same.rant over.

Sorry seem to be ranting on here a bit. I think it is because I have more time to notice usually my head is full of school stuff.

Bowerbird5 · 17/08/2018 08:51

Zoo radio on helps too. I get engrossed in some of the plays and the chit chat of local radio often funny.

HonkyWonkWoman · 17/08/2018 09:08

Frantically trying to catch up with thread. It seems to have raced away!
Don't know if I mentioned that I waited all day Wednesday for Washer Engineer for Dd's washer making very loud noise when spinning.
Well, he turned up yesterday, gave the drum a couple of turns and said that it was knackered. It's only just over 12 months old!!!!!!! I must admit though that the amount of washing that she does is crazy (to me anyway). Everything is washed after one wear, even if only for few hours. It's the kids really, they just fling in washing basket or in most cases on bedroom floor. Then all the soggy towels everyday, bedding changes etc. Her washer probably works ten times more than mine. .
He said that they're making them to break these days. Most of them are rubbish! Apparently Indesit are rubbish and there's only one worse and that's Hoover. Great!!!! Both my washer and dryer in my new kitchen are Hoover!
Anyway, she's getting a Bosch.

Ta da
Fed 🐱 and 🐕
Wipe round kitchen
Wash on
Empty dw
Vacuum downstairs
Swish and swipe
Rush over Dd so she can go to work.

To do
Dgs had friend sleepover last night, so make breakfast for both.
Send out on bikes.
Wait for new washer to arrive.

Wing flaps!!!!

Spreadingcudweed · 17/08/2018 09:52

Honky agree the built in obselescence (sp?) is ridiculous nowadays!!

Zoo agree with Bower that you deserve to do something lovely for yourself Flowers.

Bower I am VERY sympathetic on your behalf about the control freakery. My dsis2 is the kindest, most selfless, hard-working, person you could possibly meet and less just say she married a very "traditional" man who definitely has his good points BUT but he is so controlling when it comes to choosing things for the house (and my dsis2 has earned just as much as him over the years, if not more, and she does all the cleaning/shopping/cooking and washing too). Anyway, they recently renovated their house and he insisted that they bought a certain type of job that she did not want because it "looked more stylish". This is the man who has cooked approx two meals in 30 years of marriage! And my sister lives for cooking and used to be a professional caterer. She was so upset but he is as stubborn as they come. Just as well I live abroad be wise I felt like whacking him one!!!

What is it about these men who have to have their own way? Angry

Wave s to Hills and Foxes I must jump in the (thoroughly scrubbed and disinfected) shower!

Invited a neighbour for lunch and she said she would be here for 11.30 am Confused

I have baked an upside down apple cake (bit burnt on top but I have removed that and will be other way up so hopefully ok!) and a squash, fennel, onion, garlic, celery and thyme soup. Dh rushing off to bakery for pistolets (feather light crispy rolls).

Have 10 mins to get myself ready and sort table. Eating outside. It's a lovely day here!!

Hope everyone has a good 'un! (Keep posting Zoo!). BBL!

Spreadingcudweed · 17/08/2018 09:54

Gah!

Hob NOT job!

Because NOT be wise!!

IVEgotthePOWER · 17/08/2018 10:30

We have an indesit dryer. Its about 4 years old. Its had a new belt thing and some bearings (i think) It gets a battering especially in winter.

HonkyWonkWoman · 17/08/2018 11:00

I know I've my last washer was an Indesit and was still going (10 years) when had new kitchen, I gave it to the Romanians that the Church Charity sent round.
I think the (all Indesit and Hoover are crap) was in the Engineers opinion of course. Not that he was after selling us anything, he just does repairs.

Cagliostro · 17/08/2018 11:18

Oh I used to love watching Challenge Anneka Bower!

And yes house is really indescribably bigger. It is actually less than double (I think it was something like 47m2 to 89m2) but it is bigger than the sum of its parts IYSWIM. More suitable storage, decluttered loads, things like the big hallway make it feel exponentially bigger!

We are going swimming. Then DSDs are coming for dinner and games later.

foxessocks · 17/08/2018 12:23

Hope your are doing ok zoo!

Hope ds naps for you I've

We have had a busier morning than expected. Was meant to be just going to the library then shop but my mum rang saying she had got last minute tickets to the theatre and could dd come so I had to drop her off and deal with a very upset ds as he wanted to stay with grandma but he's too young, anyway got him home and he's happy now having chocolate spread sandwiches to cheer him up! Can't wait for nap time I will have some peace!!

Finally got bank stuff sorted so at least that's a weight off.

Be back with a to do list once ds is asleep!

foxessocks · 17/08/2018 13:37

ta da
amended online shop
top up shop from supermarket
library to collect reserved books
dishwasher on
washing on

to do
hang up washing
decluttering - must try and get some done today
declutter bag and purse
hoover out car and dust in car - I always have this on my Friday list and I never get onto it!!! Really must make the effort today as it's disgusting in my car.
dinner tonight - spaghetti meatballs so need to get the sauce going at about 4.30 for lots of simmering time.

Spreadingcudweed · 17/08/2018 13:54

Yay! Guests have left! (One good thing about early start is that everyone leaves promptly.). All went well! Some neighbours popping in around 6.30 pm this eve for a beer and some nuts but apart from that, that's me done for the day! Glorious weather here so going to take the dog for a long walk! Washing up to do afterwards!

We had glass white wine with (supermarket) dips and crackers. Then soup with rolls, followed by platter of cold meats and cheeses.

Followed by this: this cross between cake and tarte tatin.. Can really recommend recipe. I put cinnamon and mixed spice in it. Best with a bit of creme fraiche/cream/ice cream. Really quick and easy to make as melted butter and beaten eggs get stirred in to flour, spice and apple mix; no laborious creaming required! I made it in 23inch cake tin (so slightly less deep than recipe) - suggest checking after 45 mins - as mine was slightly burnt on top (which became bottom ifyswim).

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/08/2018 14:00

Sounds yum SC the soup sounded delish too

One panelled cupboard done, door done.spent over an hour scrub remnants of fucking sellotape of other paneled cupboard.ready paint that now.think door/cupboards will need another coat(sobs) but by comparison the Woodworks deffo very yellowBlush

Time paint second cupboard then scrape last bit wallpaper off final wall...

foxessocks · 17/08/2018 14:04

sc thanks for that recipe I have added that to my meal plan next week! Got all the ingredients just need to add some ice cream to my food shop to go with it! Smile

Spreadingcudweed · 17/08/2018 14:17

Hope you get some time to yourself while ds napping Foxes. I used to sort out purses/handbags/cars while waiting for DD at ballet on Friday. Used to take with me a pkt of Dettol wipes, a kitchen roll, and an old plastic carrier bag for rubbish and a dust pan and brush. It was a really good use of time! Sadly they don't get done half as often now!

Well done re: the painting Zoo! Sounds as though you are doing brilliantly. It's all in the prep isn't it?

Great that you are enjoying your new space so much CAG!

I've and Honky our wm arrives at wreck2 tomorrow. Just in time as we haven't had a wm here since we bought the place, and we are running out of clean clothes! Have no idea what make it is. I wanted a Samsung Ecobubble (which everyone is raving about on Mumsnet) but dh said they were too €€€€ and he got a deal on another make. He got a deal on our fridge too (demonstration model) and that works ok so fingers crossed it'll be alright.

Spreadingcudweed · 17/08/2018 14:21

Foxes I rather thought you might enjoy that recipe!! Smile

Spreadingcudweed · 17/08/2018 17:37

Grin Hills have some motivation in the form of Cake and a Brew

Foxes as ever, really admire your consistent lists!

Btw, best to put baking sheet under upside down apple cake in oven, as a few of the juices leak through.

How y'doing Zoo? And what film have you and 😸 got lined up tonight, with a glass of Wine and a 🍮 maybe?
