Fledglings are awesome in August - the Flylady thread

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

This is the August thread so I am reliably informed that it is usually more of a general chat thread. Links won’t be posted by an official ‘thread leader’ every day but I will leave some links in this OP. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Good luck with the meet up today Cag!

Yes that is the hope, get all the visiting done in one stressful lot. Although my dad has already messaged me asking if we would like to go and visit them again in half term. I have realised this week that nobody (except maybe you guys!) has a fucking clue how incredibly stressful it is for me seeing them and trying and failing to keep everyone happy Angry. I’m exhausted.

Scoopofchaff · 16/08/2018 16:14

Poor you Toostressy Flowers. Is it possible that you already have unmoveable alternative plans for half term?

Cassandra don't let failure to do housework ever put you off posting here Grin or I wont be able to post either

Well done Zoo I have an image in my mind of lots of sock monkeys lined up in the hall with tiny suitcases ready to leave on holiday.

I have had lovely ride (managed to persuade dhorse that he really didn't want to visit mare behind electric fence in opposite field). Shattered now.

Cagliostro · 16/08/2018 17:35

Keep losing posts FFS.

So at the most we had 23 people in here! Extremely noisy and I did get a bit anxious about things getting broken but it's all good actually, it's not even much messier as the toys all had homes to go back into.

I don't think I'd choose to have quite so many (a few of the boys - not mine - get extreeeemely hyper together, and some of them struggled a bit with group play, which ends up as being a bit possessive of DD) but considering they were all hemmed in due to rain - which obviously stopped just as everyone had to leave - and especially given that virtually every single one of the 16 kids has ASD / ADHD etc - it was very successful indeed!

Bowerbird5 · 16/08/2018 18:14

Glad you have had a better daySC really made me laugh about serenely sailing poo ( good alliteration but not sure I could use it) 😁andalso understand about septic tank difficulties as we are on a shared one. When we moved here the plumber discovered lots of broken pipes which meant sewage seeping down garden into field. We had allocated £500 for bathroom( inside toilet, take out old basin and bath- shame because Victorian and replace ) and it cost £3,500 instead😳. Pipes leading were lead and we didn't want to poison boys.
We recently were asked if we wanted to join bigger, new septic tank that some people went on for free we declined at the £5,000 fee.
Secret rooms 😀dry enough for storage?
DH has done bee all except read AGA v Everhot reports until I might have got a tiny bit pissed off. I have been sorting school bloody stuff all day. I suggested he might like to vacuum hall after I was sarcastic about putting ironed clothes on the bed. I knew he hadn't bothered to make it. I need to change sheets I have mentioned it three times. I find this difficult. He know this. It is probably time he went back I am getting annoyed with him and lack of empathy to me.
Zoo I do love your anecdotes about the family. You sound such a lovely, slightly crazy family. Weird that you washed the cat. I spent last night and today getting matted fur out of m'cat before DD sees her. I was contemplating washing her. Yours looks lovely and shiny now.
Cassie post away. We would rather you did. If you have done nothing it makes us feel better. Cos we might be the same.
Toostressy I remember taking children to in laws🍫🍰🍸🍹🍷🍸🍹🍷You might need this. I think I would have something important in Half term I'm having a kitchen hopefully.
Cags your house sounds so much bigger. I looked at some semi s in town yesterday and thought I wonder if I would have such a mess house if I lived in one of those. Ours is a small cottage. Our bedroom and kitchen are the biggest rooms at 12' x 14' and 12' x15' Approx. I love it but wish I could find a secret room or two. We have bats in the loft so can't put much up there and mice eat through sometimes so nothing precious. It would be great if we could. Christmas decs are in plastic lidded boxes.
Best get back to it. DH has gone to pick up DD who is gracing us with her presents( she could have come home Tuesday and looked after her bloody cat so I could have a few nights away) and so better clean up sitting room.
Ta Das
Been through six bags of RC from school. Sorted, burnt, chucked and re - filed paperwork. Have some left over to do. Could go in a RCB.
Summer House man finally turned up and then it started to shower heavily. Offered them a jacket but ok. Quick measure and getting a 10x 8 was hoping for bigger but DH there. Hope big enough for chest of drawers, table, two chairs plus Lloyd Loom one and an easel. Going to make me a little veranda too😀
Going to do ironing super fast because DH said he was going to do it and hasn't. My new iron😠 Don't want him to wreck it. He doesn't know how to fill it so probably won't.
Cleaned cobwebs off front door then got DH to vacuum so he would notice how tatty it is in hall. Wanted to paper four years ago but he said no to paper I chose. W.Morris willow. Too expensive. So I left it peeling off the wall now. I have found a dad at school is painter and decorator so going to book him when DH is awAy.😆
If DD will look after HER cat I will go away for few days when DH has gone back. Would prefer to have company, even his.
Will check back in later.

Bowerbird5 · 16/08/2018 18:16

🏆 For you Cags. 23 😳

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/08/2018 18:31

bower less of the slightly.we are a crazy family(hence my usernameWink)
Last coat paint done
DS and lil ok clean and hairs washed, dry and tied back neatly(both have waist length hair)
Got 10 mins on the drier then we can sort out what clothes they are taking

Think will play a card game (poss rummy) whilst pasta cooks
Then its pack suitcase, move furniture and try get excited younger zoolets to sleep!!

Raffertysdognuts · 16/08/2018 18:52

Yay CAG!! Glad it went well!!!! Star Star. Be careful that "going round to Cag's afterwards" doesn't become default fixture though! (Can you tell I am done with guests now? Confused)

Speaking of which, DH has brought last one back with him. He is taking him out for beers/supper though thank God so I am relieved of butler duty tonight! Yay!

Yikes Bowerbird girding my loins for heavy plumbing bills now! We had an idea it might be very expensive (everything expensive here!!) ; and as I said, would rather have proper sewage works than fancy decor any day but rather fearful of receiving specialist's quotes now!! (Can imagine a joint septic tank could lead to some "interesting" neighbourly conversations btw!)

Will have to check rat/slug population before using newly found bunkers for storage!

Very well done re: decluttering BRCs and cobweb clearance! Star. And I do hope you get that holiday! Flowers

PS love Lloyd Loom chairs btw - am very Envy of your summerhouse/art studio - it sounds so lovely!

Zoo meant to say earlier: that is one fine handsome cat Grin

Oh yes, Flying, I cleaned the windows!

Raffertysdognuts · 16/08/2018 18:59

Aargh, sorry, NC fail!!

Cagliostro · 16/08/2018 19:00

Good point dognuts! I will have to find the balance between showing off the new house enjoying hosting and keeping it a sanctuary. Thankfully hosting among this group doesn't involve catering beyond tea/coffee really, people tend to bring picnic/sharing food to this sort of thing.

Spreadingcudweed · 16/08/2018 19:26

Sorry to confuse everyone! (Have been experimenting with new nc over last week or so.). Can't be bothered to change between both anymore as it takes too long (and as demonstrated, I am crap at it Grin) so sticking to SC variations for now!

Here's the new one!

That's good Cag although I find tea and coffee for a large group one of the most stressful things about hosting large groups!

foxessocks · 16/08/2018 19:51

Well done for surviving all the visitors cag
Well-done for surviving your parents stressful Grin

Sc hooray for last guests departing!

Zoo our cat won't even sit on our laps anymore she just gets the hump after about two seconds and hisses at us so we chuck her off. Now she just sleeps on dd bed instead Hmm she is a strange cat though. Bad tempered.

We had a nice picnic although it did rain a bit but we didn't let that stop us! Dd also got upset because a seagull was watching her eat her lunch and kept following her round the picnic rug it was quite funny tbh

When we got home there was just STRESS. Dh has been dealing with some banking issues for us and basically it ended up with me filing my tax return (never done it this early!!) and then we lost a vital bit of paper dh says I decluttered it and then in the end it turned out it wasn't that vital anyway and he didn't need it. Angry . Ds then had a tantrum at bedtime as he had no nap today and was totally exhausted. So we've only just sat down and I'm totally worn out. I've just scoffed a cake.

Trying to make up with dh a bit as we are now both being grumpy. It wasn't anyone's fault just all tired and not enough hours in the day.

Ta da
Dishwasher on
Washing hung up
Tax return filed yippee!! (And was much easier since I'd already organised all my receipts when I was sorting paperwork!)

However - once again no decluttering acheived and my beautifully organised box files are now not so much.

foxessocks · 16/08/2018 19:52

That was meant to say toostressy but I guess it was stressful too!

IVEgotthePOWER · 16/08/2018 19:53

Our house is plenty big enough for lots of guests but i dislike people in my space Grin biggest rooms are 23 x 9 and 32 x 12
Well done on surviving cag

CassandraLamontaigne · 16/08/2018 21:33

A burning question that's possibly explained on the fly lady web site what's BRC or just RC??

Tada
Weeded patio, looks great
Trip to library
Laundry away/in hot press
Cloth nappies assembled
Tidied kitchen after dinner

DH made dinner while I did some things then watched me while I folded laundry, assembled nappies, cleaned kitchen. I asked him to tidy baby's toys which he did
Then after me cleaning for ages I said it was OK for him to see something that needed to be done and for him to do it (I said it more nicely than it sounds!)
He huffed and told me it was 9 o clock (I bloody know!) and he'd "made dinner and everything" not sure what the everything is Hmm. Does watching someone else work count as work!??

What do the rest of you do about lazy partners? No obligation to answer, I know that's a personal question. Just wondering if you have any tips (apart from burying him under the freshly weeded patio Grin)

IVEgotthePOWER · 16/08/2018 21:59

Box/Bag Random Crap
Random Crap

Its a thread thing i think also PRC (pile random crap)

Cagliostro · 16/08/2018 22:35

Yes I coined the BRC thing last year I'm pleased it has caught on, tis my legacy :o

Usually coupled with the explanation that I in fact had an HRC (H being House...)

IVEgotthePOWER · 16/08/2018 22:54

You know what doesnt get mentioned anymore?

The kettle pile.

Anyone still have one?

I dont! its now a basket of crap

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 16/08/2018 22:56

Grin at kettle pile. I still have one Blush although do try to keep it tidy. Hadn’t realised you coined BRCs Cag Star.

Bowerbird5 · 16/08/2018 23:09

Make silent plans to do away with them.
Why do men stand and watch you doing jobs. DH also does this it infuriates me. DH put the ironing board up and said he was going to do the ironing. I noticed the iron wasn't plugged in and couldn't help myself later tonight. " Is that ALL the ironing from today then" as I pointed to the basket, knowing full well it was the washing from yesterday still not ironed.😁 He didn't answer. He has been in a funny mood tonight. Went for drink to pub as I spied a local I needed to ask question to go past our window. I just had a half while DH had a few pints. He was a bit annoyed that I wouldn't stay but I was hungry it was 7:30pm and DD had only come home at6:30pm after festival. I made lovely veggie pasta(spaghetti) made sure I used a courgette. Cut another one yesterday. We can't eat them quick enough. Going to make soup tomorrow so wish I could put some blue Stilton in it.
Going to Skipton tomorrow to look at ranges. Then I suggested we went to Skipton Castle. I have always wanted to go there after seeing Anneka Rice running around it. Not many celebs I have wanted to meet but she is one. Mary Berry, Kirstie and most of all Alan Titmarsh. He can come and do my garden any time he wants. I did meet Monty once, briefly.

stilllivinginazoo love your username. It sounds such fun in your house. We used to play lots of games. I get to play them in Nurture Group now😁 And get paid for it! Most of the kids don't play them at home and they love it especially Snakes and Ladders and Concentration.

SC should be Spreading Crap at the moment😁 Since the turd episode.
Hope your bill isn't too big. By the way we have five shares so yes interesting conversations at times. I did get a bit fed up with a previous pub landlord trying to say that we were putting tampons down it and that it wasn't very nice when they have to clean the pipes because it was blocking them. Eh don't your customers ever use them! We burnt ours. I had a bin in the bathroom especially. The farmer used to come and empty it. I didn't ask. We had a yearly official empty as well. Makes the phase ...cheap shit...understandable!

Bowerbird5 · 16/08/2018 23:11

ahh! The farmer came and emptied the septic tank for slurry not my bin.😭

MeetOnTheLedge · 16/08/2018 23:37

Cag glad the hosting went well, we couldn't fit that many people in our tiny house, I'd love more soace for entertaining.

Bower - you need to come and live here, Alan Titchmarsh is just up the road and often seen out and about.

Cassandra - my most successful technique (apart from plain nagging) is pointing out what a bad example is being set to the DCs. DH has improved massively WRT housework over the years but I have no luck with getting him to organise anything. I do all the household admin, finances, cars, holidays, school stuff (not insignificant as DS has SENs and goes to a special school and DD who is dyslexic goes to a normal one), DCs clothes, hobbies etc.

Anyway, bad start today. DD has just been fitted with removable braces. She woke up and found they had come out and got lost in the night. She sleeps in a top bunk with the bottom bunk being chock full of teddies, cushions, books, random crap, next to shelves also full of random crap. So it took me half an hour to find them before vowing to blitz her room after work (1/2 day today). However in order to do that I really needed to free up space elsewhere to move things to so ended up doing the landing, which has wall to wall shelves full of books, boardgames, craft stuff in boxes etc. So the boot and back seat of my car are now full of stuff for the charity shop tomorrow. We had a nice hour out at a local cafe and garden centre after our decluttering efforts which was nice too, as it finally stopped raining (torrential all morning).

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/08/2018 05:52

Especially for SC
Sock mumkeys (key to mum's love, full her love to snuggle if you need her when she's
away and sprayed my deodorant so smell of me)saying bon voyage!
(DS is blue, rainbow is lil zoo, black and white is dd2(made of knee highs so super long arms and legs she used to tie around her when away from home!!not sure if can see also has a darned face as got chew by a dog on a sleep over once!!)

They are gone

House is silent

In flood of tearsSad
