Fledglings are awesome in August - the Flylady thread

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

This is the August thread so I am reliably informed that it is usually more of a general chat thread. Links won’t be posted by an official ‘thread leader’ every day but I will leave some links in this OP. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Morning all! (Can't sleep for toffee!). And signal seems to be strong ...so...

Yes that's one version of the phrase Hills glad first session not sore-inducing!

Hey Meetontheledge! Glad to hear things still ticking along ok Wink Wink Good luck with giant hot-spot obliteration!

Zoo and CAG can't do spinning nowadays either!

I really miss the days of reading before bed CAG!

Poor Little Zoo must be miserable for her Zoo Bear

Oh no Honky hope sore throat and headache etc does not develop further FlowersBrew

Good luck to decluttering today Foxes and yay to a delicious dinner!

And thank you everyone for advice about DD/pre-period pain etc. I will indeed get her checked out thoroughly. It really is grim what she goes through each month and I'm determined she won't be fobbed off like I was! Having said all that, I gather that being slightly underweight can apparently effect pain levels (negatively) so constantly trying to feed her up, but not easy when she is off her millett for at least four days every month; it becomes a viscious cycle (sigh).

Early morning wing flaps to everyone else!

Sewage system seems ok for now thank heavens but all a bit tentative ATM until fundamental works have been undertaken!

Tractors have started rolling here which means it will be light soon.

With dd under par, I have a day of plodding riding, grooming, horse poo-picking and tack-cleaning ahead, in addition to meal planning and cooking for tomorrow. Must admit, although I could have done without earlier stress, having one unexpected day without all the guests (well, only one guest left now and they are not back until early evening) is quite nice!

Have a good one everybody and over and out for now! Xx

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/08/2018 05:48

I have been awake since 4
I fought urge to get up and lay here listening wind and rain(quite soothy when snuffled up in bed)
Zoolets leaving at silly o'clock tomorrow so today's plan is uniform shopping, washing what they want to take that's not clean, painting, cleaning and drop everything by lunchtime to gather up some much needed time and cuddles with them all
Meet my house is one giant hotspot in hols I can so relate to that!!

IVEgotthePOWER · 16/08/2018 07:31

Morning all

Took DC to a thing in nearest big city yesterday. Public transport, 3 walkind dc, pram. Depending on google maps to show me the way. STRESSFUL. Anyway they enjoyed it, we all survived and its ticked off the list now!

Zoo sorry to hear your OH is being a dick again. Hes really not worth prison, i bet chocolate is limited in there.... Mine is on/off being a dick. Last night he was tired (as was i) grumpy and being ignorant. Seemed in a better mood this morning so will see what the day brings.

We have one of those little life back packs, i have used it with ds3 a handful of times and hes been happy enough with it. He is usually in pram in shops though as i dont drive.

Speaking of ds3 the little love was up roughly 4-5am slapping me in the face Hmm i managed to ignore him and he went back to sleep

Think im going to sign back up to a supermarket delivery saver for when i am back at work. Asda does mid week deliveries £24 for 12 months. So think ill go with that. If i can get a midweek shop with them then go elsewhere and pick stuff up at weekends it should be ok.

Would like to do a bit more painting today. Problem is i have lots of white bits to do and its boring 🎨

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 16/08/2018 07:49

Morning all. Welcome back Meet Smile. Sorry things are so awful SC, sending Gin.

I’ve only skim read the thread so apologies if I missed anything big and CakeFlowers for anyone who needs it.

Day 4 of staying with my parents. We leave today and I am SO ready to go Sad.

HillsBesideTheSea · 16/08/2018 08:10

I had the opposite problem and couldn't fall asleep last night. slept well when I did sleep but this morning is a bit too early for me.

to do
work
early. night.

Cagliostro · 16/08/2018 08:52

I couldn't sleep due to pain and then Cagletini woke earlier than normal in the night.

Little bit nervous as we have a big meet up today, we chose the park by our house so people can come and see that too (only a couple have already seen it). But it is maybe raining all day so we may all end up back here... Like 20+ people... all afternoon.

Bowerbird5 · 16/08/2018 09:05

Morning all.
Didn't get much done yesterday (as I had planned) as DH seemed to be on another track but doesn't communicate this so a lot of time wasting. I hadn't slept well then woke up too late to get to Mass on time by about 7 minutes.Damn. So went to later at 11:00 then DH decide he would take me and do a load of washing at DS1s failed to check and DS1 had load in. Went to check on summer house as guy hasn't been to measure. Now coming today( mucking up another one of my plans) so had lunch there. This was very nice but I wanted to crack on with sorting. DH then decided on way home to check on kitchen without phoning. It was ok as they had no electric and could spend the time, luckily. Kitchen plan 4 is the best we have seen so just waiting for price. Need to chose worktops so had to go back there and find someone( previous no one about but we did look) to get price. Did but she didn't know price😣 Kitchen people will apparently. We eventually got home did one hour plus of decluttering then he wanted to go to pub for one before supper😗 Turned into four because met friend in there. I left him to it and went to make supper then brushed the cat and spent another hour or so decluttering. DH did nothing in the house all day! Sorry for long rant. It was school stuff but couldn't he get on with something else.
I'm not saying too much because of kitchen and summer house purchases. Inside I want to scream. There is no mention of a holiday. He knows I want to go and why( because I was really stressed and know there is more to come) he looked at accomodation for about three days, so I thought we were going, but has done nothing about it. I just want a few days away. If I had known he was going to do this I would have gone while he was here. I could go and see two of my sisters. I would go at weekend but he will need car to take DD to work.
Now I will end up with taking DD to work and looking after cat while she has bank holiday off with friends to same village as I was supposed to be going.
Why do mums end up trying to pussyfoot around everyone and get little consideration about there needs. I know I can say that here because some of you are in the same boat.

Bowerbird5 · 16/08/2018 09:09

Meant to say sorry about your problems SC you must want to scream too. I did write a post yesterday and just remember I lost it just as I was about to post.
Cags lets hope it stays dry.
Waves to Meet.

Will pop back to see others apparently MY cat has been sick. It is DDs cat ! Have to go clean it up.

IVEgotthePOWER · 16/08/2018 09:14

cags i could not cope with 20 people in my house Wine

Cagliostro · 16/08/2018 09:41

I'm not sure I can either TBH. At the old house even one extra person would make me stressed and anxious but there is much more space. There were 12 of us on moving day and it was fine.

Scoopofchaff · 16/08/2018 10:11

CAG you have my sympathies. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst as they say! Hoping it stays dry for you though!

Bower when I protested to a very wise friend about DH never letting me know plans in advance for holiday (he was never sure when there is going to be a brief respite in work that he can take advantage of) and how it was driving me mad because my family in the UK and Ireland needed to make their plans too, and I was waiting to make arrangements, she said "why do you need permission?". Still crap at it but she was so right! Hope you can sort a mini much deserved break for yourself!

Hi there Toostressy ta for gin and sending some back in exchange Gin as it sounds like you need it! Are you off on holiday now? Have a lovely time if so!

Well done for surviving yesterday I've! Cake

Good luck with school uniform shopping Zoo and have a good day at work Hills!

Chirpy wing flaps to everyone else!

Well this morning I ruddy forgot (duh!) that proper septic tank specialist was coming until she rang to remind me but happily was up and about and not out on dhorse when he arrived! I now know more about septic tanks than I ever want to know! I also found out that original owner put in inadvertent right angle in pipes which is contributing to problem, and that when our plumber added extra lav, the camber of those pipes (counter-intuitively) were too steep - as he explained expressively in French - making the liquids rush past the solids which then get left behind. Apparently the camber should be less steep which means the poos can sail "serenely" to their destination.Grin. Anyway, he has gone off now to design a Rolls Royce of a septic tank system! And if that means no new decoration/furniture/heating system for a good while then I am happy with that! As long as there is no recurrence of the now legendary emergent turd (shudder).

We also discovered two whole new rooms under the house which I didn't know were there!! Shock

Scoopofchaff · 16/08/2018 10:13

She? Until DH rang to remind me!

foxessocks · 16/08/2018 10:17

cag I feel for you, I have space but rarely invite anyone other than a few close friends or family over! We don't do big gatherings very often. Maybe we will when the dc are older...

Ds birthday is coming up (2 years old how is that possible?!!!) and we haven't planned a single thing. Which I feel quite bad about not that he'll know. But I feel like we should do something. No idea what and not much time to plan it now anyway Confused

Ta da
Made picnic for later
Swish and swipe bathroom
Dishwasher on
Washing on

To do
Decluttering!!!

Going for a picnic soon though. Not really the weather for it but never mind!

IVEgotthePOWER · 16/08/2018 10:30

Hahahaha

Turns out OH wasnt tired last night. He was having a MANTRUM!

🤣

Cagliostro · 16/08/2018 10:30

Argh just lost a post. SC secret rooms! Are you in a famous five book?! Plumbing fiasco excluded of course. But :o at serenely travelling poo.

I am an odd mix of terrified and excited, the latter because I am just so happy to finally be able to have anyone round. There were only a few people I'd let in at all and it was just so tiny.

I wouldn't say we are totally visitor ready yet but we are pretty tidy, I am going to dash round the bathrooms in a sec having already cleaned the kitchen. Anyway we are still within the window in which we can say "just moved in hence the boxes" ponders just how long one can get away with that

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/08/2018 11:19

Arf a serene poo!!SC secret rooms?!all very james bond!!
I've mantrums are no worst imo that toddler ones-best ignored but as he's ment to be adult competent plot revenge at later date

Survived uniform shop.lil zoo has couple shirts, skirt, bag and pe bag.pe kit.dd2 pe shorts(leggings out of stock her size,D's has order his thru school at ridiculous prices)all have shoes girls have trainers.id call that a good start..
Still need trousers for the girls, tights for lil zoo,D's trainers(need check specifics as school fecking awkward about type.all I remember is have to have white soles)dd2school bag(D's has to have the academy's own one)possibly new coats(but not essential as old ones fit)all in all job well done!

Bit food shop
Pop pet shop for litter and cat shampoo.scoutcat had oil on his fur(slept under a leaky car I think)he's neurotic but the fool trusts me implicitly so I lob him in bath, held scruff tight and dd2 lathered him up as he was damp from rain and I held and rinsed.couple attempts to get out.both dd2 and I got showered when he shook soapy liquid mid wash but he's clean again without any major trauma(bonus is it's a flea treatment too).we bundled him in a towel and sat pet him by fire whilst he dry and ply him half large can tuna..at this point he revelled in the fuss and food and has now taken position on back sofa and licking his undercarriage dry and styling it back down(spikey looking)Grin

Bleached out bath after removing all shed fur

Washing sock monkeys ready for trip tom

To do

Painting, more laundry then spend time with my babies before they leave me for four days(longest ever had all away at once as dad has taken them twice before but only for 3days and that tore my heart out)

Cag good luck with visitors
Stressy happy homecoming!!

Scoopofchaff · 16/08/2018 11:21

Oh don't worry; you can get away with that excuse for years CAG well I have Grin

And no, I'm afraid they are more liked lined bunkers than rooms I suppose ... made for plumbing works rather than adventures sadly ...!!

Enjoy your guests!!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 16/08/2018 11:23

Nope, we are on the way to my in-laws now. Longish drive in the posing rain . At least one parental visit is over, although DM wants me to phone her later (when I arrive at in-laws) so we can have a chat Hmm. FFS.

Glad that you have a future solution for septic tank SC. Sorry to hear of ‘D’P situation Ive and about your holiday Bower. I can relate to mums putting themselves last. foxes, there is just so much to do with small DC that things rush up on you. As you say, DS won’t mind if things are late or just a small event and you can spin a reason for this for your DD. A day trip out or a birthday tea maybe.

Cag, totally agree, the just moved excuse lasts for ages.

Big wing flaps to all. Going to try to sleep on the journey.

Ooh what are you going to do with your child-bearing days? Something nice for yourself I hope!

Oh dear re: mantrums I've. Think you should have some thoroughlypissedoffwomantrums in return!

Enjoy your picnic Foxes!

Gawd. I'm a bit de-mob happy and can't settle down to cooking. Really must!!

Scoopofchaff · 16/08/2018 11:34

Argh Zoo I'm sorry! That really was a typo and a half!! Meant child-free days!!!!!! Grin

Safe travelling and arf at posing rain too Toostressy! Grin. Goodness, think it is very noble of you to go from one set of parents to the next back-to-back. (Think I would be chugging Gin like there was no tomorrow.)

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/08/2018 12:05

If child bearing was an option still SC if be up for thatGrin

Sadly I'm decorating and cleaning like possessed woman whilst I have fewer interruptions(only kitty "helpers")should really rest, orsort trip gp as still feel rough but you have to make most of opurtunities present right? and not like I have RL mates to cavort off with
Plus hopefully be nice for them to come home to bit more organisation and fingers x the girls room rejig and looking good!!

I've just walked I to front room and scoutcat has got quite vocal that I needed to sit so he can be petted.he is now in situ on my lap, purring.clearly I'm not in his bad books over his bath.bless him, daft old bugger!!

Stilllivinginazoo · 16/08/2018 12:08

zoo enjoy time off. Make sure you relax
SC the horror of the poo story is only outdone by the amazement of the secret rooms
toostressy hopefully the good thing about seeing all the parents at the same time means you don't have to do it again for ages
bower that's really disappointing about your holiday or lack thereof. Put yourself first in future (I know, it's tough and that sounds sarcastic but I totally understand, I feel guilty taking ten minutes to do a yoga you tube video in the spare room) and tell dh that you're going to x place on x date. He can come or not
