Fledglings are awesome in August - the Flylady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 31/07/2018 19:05

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

This is the August thread so I am reliably informed that it is usually more of a general chat thread. Links won’t be posted by an official ‘thread leader’ every day but I will leave some links in this OP. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Happy flying everyone.

Thanks cag.maybe I should move down southGrin
Well I was making lunch and sarky gob struck again.apetite vanishes, urge use sharp knife cutting tomatoes in his throat.i have retreated to my painting leaving them all eating.
I don't hope he chokes on his sandwiches,I merely gloat at the possibilityWink

He will be gone in ten minutes.i will eat copious amounts of chocolate then and continue attacking this stupid wall dd2 has booked in another slot to binge watch series we are indulging in on Netflix(safe if anyone's interested)

How's things at yours I've?I thought of you as I clutch the knife tighter in my hand and repeated mantra "prison is not an option" - doesn't help as I get older that a life sentence is less of a deterrent😂

SassitudeandSparkle · 15/08/2018 13:15

SC that sound dreadful - we'd all be wibbling in the corner at that.

I saw a mouse a few months back, I am still convinced they are around - we never found a nest or where they were getting in so I feel that I haven't stopped them even if we got two of them and haven't actually seen any trace of them since

Been out to the shops, dropped off item, now back and eating lunch before playing with DD this afternoon.

Need to make list of items needed for school in September
Empty dishwasher
Start packing lists for weekend away
Book activities for weekend away.

foxessocks · 15/08/2018 13:29

cag I think I've seen those - annoyingly I just got ds a little back pack of his own and he loves it, not sure I'd convince him to wear a different one especially one that restrains him Grin

foxessocks · 15/08/2018 13:35

hmm completely forgot about any lists!

ta da
dishwasher on
washing on
empty glasses collected from all around the house
got few bits from supermarket
few more bits of dd uniform
picked up present for bil and cards

to do
make cakes - lemon and elderflower cupcakes today
decluttering - aim to do CDs at least (we haven't got many anymore anyway), also want to do video games but need dh for that as I don't play any but he does occassionally. Still got some bits in the loft to do - few more board games and some old clothes of dd which I think I'll just put on FB. Then it will be time to move onto skincare products!
empty dishwasher and reload
hang up washing and possibly put another load on
cook dinner later - honey and mustard pork loin steaks with parmentier potatoes with bacon and brocolli / cauliflower cheese (bit of a tricky one tonight hope it doesn't get too stressful to make!)

Cagliostro · 15/08/2018 13:49

I have successfully pottered! Rearranged some books - they are mostly on the bottom kallax shelves so I sat on the floor. I have gathered all the sheet music together and have got some of the toddler books to go upstairs, I think we will have to just have some in the girls' room for now at least.

Stilllivinginazoo · 15/08/2018 13:56

Hmmm.dinner sounds lush foxes
Great decluttering!!

SC I forgot to add I've had rats in my old house..
We lived not far from a lake and for about a month I hear odd scratchy sound when I was in bed.thought next doors dog as adjacent bedrooms and was very old, going blind barmy as box of frogs and his bed was next to our shared wall.anyways one night my then partner was there (worked nights) and was like that is not a dog(his parents lived in the countryside) I wibbles and in the morning he poked head in loft and scan with torch and look and behold droppings.as council property they sent environmental health in.turns out next door but one had had them a cpuple months previous and had gnawed thru the terrace roof to mine(next door had them too it turns out)they lob rat poison up there, shut hatch and said they eat this feel super thirsty head to lake for water and innards with expand and burst.i felt bad they would die such gruesome death but for months was terrified every sound...

We've had rats in the street here-used be a lady that can only be described learning difficulties and her house was full of them.she delighted in tell everyone her daughter scream they ran over her in bed at night and son drowned them in bath!!anyhoo.came to a head when council wanted do decent homes upgrade her kitchen.pulled out cooker and a nest was disturbed.so I hear they hot tailed it out like arses were on fire and wouldn't go back in.she was evicted but as her kids weren't all there either they were vulnerable and sent to live in a block flat full junkies and prostitutes.they eventually rehoused.whilst they were there we often saw rats run out her cul de sac to check out rubbish on binday

Funny thing is I not scared in slightest of pet rats.must be a germ thing...

Stilllivinginazoo · 15/08/2018 13:58

Eaten chocolate, going for another coat paint then some binge TV for a bit!

GoingGoingGoth · 15/08/2018 14:32

Scoopofchaff · 15/08/2018 16:04

Thank you so much for the kind supportive words everyone! Flowers. Much appreciated!

And for the hugs and (much needed alcohol) Zoo! Very interested to hear your ratty tails/tales too!!!! Yikes at gnawing through roof terrace!! Shock

Indeed I've that would have been (literally!) crap!! Grin

As ever, this thread helps me through! Smile

Very well done re: painting Zoo and sorry to hear you have troubles of your own again. (Surreptitiously waves pkts of rat poison about; very good in cups of tea I hear WinkWink.)

Arf at holy crap Grin ! Wow to Cagletini taking first steps CAG bless her! Smile. Sorry you are in such pain though Sad

Hope wee squeakers do not reappear Sass! Have a lovely weekend away!

Your DH is a lucky man Foxes with menus like yours! Lemon & elderflower cupcakes sound luverly too! No, thankfully, guests not dh clients (that would be truly awful!) Think extended family/cousin-ish. Have had lovely friends here too but sadly they had to leave a while back. Gosh, CDs are a job waiting for my return; really not sure how to tackle but good luck with yours!

Honky thanks for cake! Happily, Neighbour Who Is Hub Of All Knowledge (God bless her soul) persuaded a rural Mr Fixer (man of few words) to come and stick his rods down various pipes which has (temporarily) eased problem. I also know what to do now should it happen again (and let's just say it's not pretty!!)).
Proper plumber coming 8.30 am tomorrow morning to follow up and start re-designing whole thing ! . He made some not altogether welcome discoveries about the system which our town plumber failed to do in four or five expensive visits ; in summary, tank is too small, middle old tank isn't working properly and whole thing was installed on the cheap with a following wind! (Like everything else previous owner did!!) Also, that our kitchen sink (in separate building) is not linked to any outflow/ system at all!! Shock. Lucky we discovered this before installing DW!! How the bloomin' heck did town plumber miss that?????!!!! (Sigh.)

Another problem: DD has gone to bed with stomach pain (no other symptoms). She seems to get pains before her period (when no actual period yet) is this a thing? Wonder if she has endo or some such? Can you have it at 15 yes? Not sure! Anyway ...I am staying here with DD and dhorse and DH will be ditching business dinner and joining guests in town this eve, who are probably going to be leaving a day early tomorrow morning now ...phew (meant in nicest way poss!!!!).

MsForestier very well done on cleaning entire top of house yesterday!! Star

MsForestier and Goth gosh that seems early to be heading back to school! (Goth I am sure our two broke up at roughly same time iiic.). Good luck with all the prep and early starts!

More power to your elbow Mercury!

Waves to Hills (sorry things are tough going with you too ATM), Bower and Henny and Honey and everyone I have surely missed!

Right, off to shovel shit of a different kind and do my daily horse poo collection rounds!!

Humongous waves to everybody!! And thanks again for the support. Feel duly bolstered! X

Scoopofchaff · 15/08/2018 16:24

Honey = Honu !!

Scoopofchaff · 15/08/2018 16:25

Dear Lord, it is all happening today! Man and child with drone have just appeared!

MsForestier · 15/08/2018 16:52

A college friend of mine used to get period pain a few days before her period arrived SC. My sister and I used to be incapacitated by periods as teens but she was much worse and she had endo

MsForestier · 15/08/2018 16:53

She being my sister

Scoopofchaff · 15/08/2018 17:00

Thanks MsForestier that is really useful to know! Have been meaning to get DD to have thorough gynae exam because like you and your dsis, I had awful period trouble as teen (and as an adult) and I am determined she is not going to suffer in same way.

Drone people were from neighbouring holiday cottage! They offered to take aerial pics of wreck2 and e-mail me the results! Very kind of them and I think they enjoyed it too! Told them to avoid flying too low over dhorse!

Phew! That is fourth set of callers today! Tired now.

Scoopofchaff · 15/08/2018 17:03

Can't relax entirely because one visitor (flying not driving) is staying until end Fri so will be coming back tomorrow so need to shop and meal plan!

HillsBesideTheSea · 15/08/2018 17:16

ta da
spent the most of procrastinating
sorted out work stuff - peace of mind sorted there
sorted some banking -gave up on the rest of it.
washed uniform
eat fish from chippy for tea Grin

Just going to throw on a change of clothes and wash my hair (not in that order) before going out. For the oldies - I am going to go do some gentle training with a view to getting back to training at least 5 hrs per week again... I need the mental boost that training gives me, need to shift weight and need to sort out my fitness levels. Hopefully make me feel happier in my own skin again. Whatever else it will get me out the house and amongst people I can ignore regularly. Grin Hmm Grin

Scoopofchaff · 15/08/2018 17:20

That sounds like a brilliant plan Hills! Enjoy! Smile. And glad work stuff sorted too!

Signal is wavering here so disappearing back in to the ether again... ta l l y h o o

Stilllivinginazoo · 15/08/2018 17:28

Good luck with the training hills

Watched two episodes

To do
Need do another coat painting beforei start tea
Wash some towels for zoolets to take on hols with them
Make dinner(jacket potatoes with minced beef, carrots and lots parsley/broccoli cheese with dd2 potato.side roasted med veg for her too)

Consultant rang about lil zoo.her colon is totally backed up.mega doses laxido then maintainance plan to keep things moving..warned acute pain likely in early stages.get Calpol n hot water bottles at readySadshe says will show lil zoo the x-ray at three month visit!!
Dd2 pipe up on be told she knew lil zoo was full of shit.gotta love sisterly love eh?!
Just need sort the script for meds for after their little jolly with "darling daddy"- doc says need confirmation from consultant to issue extra meds.ive left message her receptionist,in knowledge she's going away two weeks in next couple days on hols...then ring our doc asking them let me know when scripts ready.why are these things never straightforward?Confused

foxessocks · 15/08/2018 19:39

I usually get period pain just before my period sc but obviously good idea to get her checked just to put everyone's minds at ease! Glad the plumbing issues are being sorted, phew!

Dinner was delicious if I do say so myself and the cakes too - a resounding success hooray! It was all quite a bit of work though (not complaining because I do like to cook but slightly different cooking whilst trying to stop the dc fighting as I'm sure you all know too well!!) Anyway the result was I didn't get any decluttering done today but never mind.

Ta da
Dishwasher on
Kitchen tidied after a LOT of mess made while cooking
Toys tidied
More washing on and hung up
All laundry folded and put away
Cakes made and iced (and lots already eaten!)

Tomorrow I must try harder with the decluttering. A few things I do need dh help with and he has been working late plus busy sorting out some banking stuff so fair enough.

This evening to do
Get washing in
Put garden toys away - dd and ds were busy making "grass soup" in the garden this afternoon and it has resulted in lots of bowls and buckets all over the lawn. I was happy they were enjoying the garden though. It's a bit of a mess out there but the dc don't care!

HonkyWonkWoman · 15/08/2018 20:24

Waited in all day at Dd's for washing machine Engineer to arrive. He eventually rang to say he was on his way at 5pm, just as getting Dgs10 ready
for Rugby Practice. He's coming tomorrow now.
It has absolutely bucketed down for the whole hour, I stood for about 5mins under umbrella then told Dgs I needed something from Tesco and went and got a coffee.
The others parents/Gparents are so stoical and just stand there whatever the weather. I'm a fair weather spectator, I'm afraid!😂
One Grandma who is super keen, approached me after I'd been going a few weeks this Winter and mentioned how cold it was. I said that I was freezing, I'd absolutely no idea what they were doing, I was bored ridgid and was going to sit in the car.

My daughter laughed when I told her as apparently it's "frowned on" to not watch them, whatever the weather.

I've asked Dgs if he minds and he said he really doesnt and he wouldn't like me to get cold or wet. He's such a "gent" !
So tired tonight! I have a slight sore throat and buzzing ears and I've had a headache. Getting a cold I think!

Cagliostro · 15/08/2018 21:40

Aaaaagh well I'm an idiot. Managed to make it to gym, took the younger two to the park during DD's lesson and let DS push me and baby on the roundabout... Less than a minute but I still feel horrifically sick now! WTF?!

Anyway managed to do dinner as planned (have told DD we need to come up with some ideas for more batch cookable meals so we don't get sick of bolognese) and tidy up a bit, big two had baths and played a game.

We are on day two of melatonin break so being stricter about TV and sugar, also decided it's a good opportunity to start reading to her again as we were totally out of the habit. But as she is not sleepy we are going to start the second narnia book.

Stilllivinginazoo · 15/08/2018 21:56

cag as I've got older I can't do roundabouts at all anymore.even swinging high makes me start get dizzy..I am officially an old fuddy duddy!!

Cagliostro · 15/08/2018 22:46

It's weird isn't it, seems to be a Thing once you've had a baby, that your insides have been irreparably moved about! Lots of friends found the same, this was extreme so not sure if it's worse since Cagletini or just because of flare up/pain issues etc.

DD has just gone to bed, read three chapters of tLtWatW :o I hope I can continue this. It was much nicer having no TV on after 7.30 too although DS complained a bit. It's making me think how I want things to be long term. In school time they are no longer allowed TV either but with clubs etc that means there will be virtually no time, which seems a bit too harsh. But then home ed improved so much when we banned TV till 3pm!

Really just brings me back to the question that is the bane of my life, "how the actual fuck do you fit everything in". Sigh.

MeetOnTheLedge · 15/08/2018 23:09

Evening all, just popping by to say I've been away, but now I'm back and I've decided to have a little change of name. You may realise that my new name is connected to my old one, or you may not, Who Knows?

Hills - really pleased to hear you are feeling up to a bit of training again, don't overdo it, as if you would.

SC sorry to hear about your sewage woes. I also used to get fairly severe pain in advance of periods, definitely worth getting DD checked.

Zoo - sorry that Lil Zoo is unwell, poor thing.

Flying-wise. Tidying is the name of the game here at the moment - the house had really slipped due to hot weather/school holiday lack of routine/being away etc. Entire house had turned into one giant hotspot. So chipping away at it with a bit of help from the DCs after a lot of nagging.

HillsBesideTheSea · 15/08/2018 23:49

Ovulation linked pain is a thing. A pita of a thing but medically recognised. So yeah I'd get dd checked she is going to hate us all but hey ho joys of being female.

Meet couldn't over do it if I tried. My body would dump me unceremoniously on my ass if I tried to over do it. I am achy but not sore. No doubt doms will kick in tomo but meh. Training didn't hit the mental boost that I would like, being unfit will do that. One step at a time. Not planning on arse crack of a sparrow (is that the phrase SC) starts for training anywhere in the near future.
