Fledglings are awesome in August - the Flylady thread

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

This is the August thread so I am reliably informed that it is usually more of a general chat thread. Links won’t be posted by an official ‘thread leader’ every day but I will leave some links in this OP. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Happy flying everyone.

My dd does and it drives me nuts as I'm not much of a planner! Plus she tends to ask repeatedly due to her ASD and having learning difficulties she tends to forget or not understand what I tell her.

Cagliostro · 13/08/2018 14:11

I do need to get properly planning though. For the home ed, house rules etc. Actually the other day DD said how much she likes having house rules. So that's working well!

MercuryRising · 13/08/2018 14:15

The problem with dd is she isn't very good at occupying herself. Being 25 weeks pregnant I don't always want to be busy at the moment. Both of my ds are more happy to relax and entertain themselves at home but poor dd really struggles to do the same. It is nice to hear she is not the only one like it.

IVEgotthePOWER · 13/08/2018 14:30

HillsBesideTheSea · 13/08/2018 14:49

ta da
kick up a crap ton of dust into the air
Made some decisions as to room organisation
hide my bed under stuff...

I'm in that reall awkward phase of in the middle of doing things where it looks so much worse than it does better. Hmm

Weather or meds have given me a headache. Hmm

I have come to the conclusion my crafting stuff is not currently making me happy. I need to resolve this.

Cagliostro · 13/08/2018 15:46

My DD also struggles with entertaining herself, she is happy playing with DS and still loves toys which is good for her age I think, but she cannot play alone. She hated it when there was nobody to play out with and is always asking when we can see people. TBH it is a main reason I missed the autism so long as she is very different to myself and DS in that she craves social interaction constantly, whereas we need down time. Having said that while she craves it she does get overwhelmed from too much of it.

One of my aims for after summer is to increase the social side of home ed - I had become a bit too complacent on that side of things because she has good friendships but we weren't really seeing enough of most of them. Next comes the tricky bit of mixing friendship and academic work. Eep.

I antiprocrastinated again and set up broadband etc. 9 days till we have wifi!

Bowerbird5 · 13/08/2018 16:00

HillsYes, I just shut the door on it at the moment. I have too much stuff in there still. Think I might bag up all the felting stuff and take it to DS3 s attic room. DD has some stuff there and he said as long as visitors can get to the bed it will be ok. I feel then I could declutter rest then get felting stuff back when ready.
I've been in that stage for three weeks. It overwhelmed me. I didn't know where to start and DD brought hers and mingled it 😳😤

DH has helped today and we now have sitting room and kitchen looking ok. One table in each with clutter so I am going to add to dining room but then it will be all on one table not three. Then I can see what I need to do next - The Table.

I've DH is usually like yours so it maybe me you were thinking of. This trip he has been much better. I don't know what has changed. Long may it continue. We have been out together for days out so maybe that.

Ta da
Me. Him
Sitting room
Dusted Vacuumed
Kindling Coal
Sorted paper work
Returned things to own place.

Fifteen more minutes then I have to get ready to go out as I have a meeting. Going for a meal first. Sometimes it is nice to be on a committee!

See you later😄

Bowerbird5 · 13/08/2018 16:02

First step cags wow!
Mine were early walkers.

IVEgotthePOWER · 13/08/2018 16:27

How old is she now cag? My earliest walker was a week before first birthday

IVEgotthePOWER · 13/08/2018 16:31

Bower glad to see things a bit better with your dp. When i worked previously he still didnt do his share so i dont think it will differ this time unfortunatley

foxessocks · 13/08/2018 16:54

My dd walked at 11 months and I've actually forgotten how old ds was so now I feel terrible that I've forgottenSad think he was a year...might have to go and read my journal to check!

Tada
Finished work and picked up the dc who were over excited and sticky from a day with grandma and grandad. So pretty standard! Grin. They are now playing nicely together upstairs while me and dh have a coffee so I can't complain!
Dinner is cooking - spaghetti Bolognese so just got to cook the spaghetti in a bit. Have just rediscovered my food processor for chopping onion and carrots finely for Bolognese. I also buy those bags of mixed chopped onions carrots celery frozen from the supermarket so now not sure which is better / more cost effective!

Enough of my ramblings Smile

To do
Whatever can be achieved in the half an hour or so before dinner. Going to have a power half hour.

foxessocks · 13/08/2018 16:55

Meant to say cag do you think you'll count the grumpy first steps as actual first steps or try again for happier ones tomorrow?!

Cagliostro · 13/08/2018 17:02

That's always the way though with subsequent babies foxes DS has bugger all written in his red book!

She is 9.5m. DD was 10ish. I don't think she will walk properly for a while though, as crawling is quicker :o TBH I am more concerned about talking, both mine were late to get talking properly and I feel like I'm on the lookout for any signs of ASD

I have thrown out some more pens and pencils. Such a productive day!

Cagliostro · 13/08/2018 17:05

Foxes I'll count those ones, TBH they don't feel like a big deal being the third baby :o and I'm kind of "oh crap now she will be causing even more mayhem" :o the Caglets are super excited and proud though which is lovely! She was grumpy and crying and took a step towards her big sister so she feels pretty special!

foxessocks · 13/08/2018 18:02

Aah bless cag I know what you mean though walking just equals trouble!

Ta da
Dinner made , dd ate the whole lot including all the peppers which she doesn't normally like. Ds ate barely a thing but he's extremely tired and grumpy.

Nothing til 6pm..
Made vegan carrot cake

SassitudeandSparkle · 13/08/2018 23:28

I now look back with fondness to those days when DD would constantly ask what we were doing next (even as we arrived at something) as she would be happy to sit on the sofa all day in her nightwear with her laptop! Golden days ... Grin

The kitchen floor has just been swept because DH broke a jar of Barleycup but I haven't cleared up after tonight's tea. Yet another missed mark on my August habit tracker. I did go out and get my prescription, although I'm not sure that would make a good entry on the habit tracker being a bi-monthly thing, rather than a daily. Still, every entry counts.

Bowerbird5 · 13/08/2018 23:39

Mine were between 61/2 around furniture dS3 who was tiny.
Proper steps not holding on all were between 7 -9 mths.
Ds2 speech a bit slow as he was ' busy' then he came out in long sentences with big words at 2 plus. DDs first word wasn't mum or dada but hallo we reckoned I was because so many teenagers were coming around and everyone said hallo. She answered one day and we all swung around and couldn't believe it. She was 10 mths. Ds1 was about8 mths and DS3 later. He had hearing problems and was lip reading at 18 mths. The audio metrician said he was the youngest she had ever seen in 26 years of work. I had to prove it and she couldn't believe it.
Ta Das
Kitchen table clean bar one tray.
Bathroom shower doors I did while I was in there and squeezed them.
DH dropped me at restaurant then went to DS1's to do washing. Then I went to meeting. Very productive. Then quiz.
Fed cat then bed. Had several rhubarb gins 😄

IVEgotthePOWER · 14/08/2018 07:20

Ooo zoo we have a heron foods i wonder if it has that icecream!

Stilllivinginazoo · 14/08/2018 07:32

They had vanilla flavour too when we went in..D's hated it(but not a big mint lover) dd2 was a bit meh,but she's used to the mouth feel of milk(if you try df you know what I mean as tends feel thin and non creamy)she still wanted seconds mind😂

Stilllivinginazoo · 14/08/2018 07:35

Lil zoo asking if we might get the vanilla as dates next year on it,I said maybe she knows I will cos I'm a sucker

We have hospital at lunchtime today and am hoping for a plan regarding lil zoos ongoing tummyaches...

IVEgotthePOWER · 14/08/2018 07:40

We normally have that swedish glace icecream for the dairy free child and the rest have anything on offer lol. Swedish glace £2.80 in our co op!

Bowerbird5 · 14/08/2018 08:22

Mango from Sainsburys is yummy.
Our pub have chocolate and hazelnut, coconut and vanilla sorbets. Not sure which brand but they are all yummy.

Dull outside but warm. Up earlier as I have loads I want to get down.
Fed the cat
Made a cup of tea.😄
Going to whizz around the kitchen and wash the floor as we didn't get that done.
Then start sorting the pile on dining room table. Get DHh to move chairs and vacuum as too heavy for my wrists.need to put clock back. It has been for refurbishment.
Hall sort some of the 9 bags of school stuff.
Sort bags of RCs upstairs and reorganise so not trip over it in middle of the night.
Vacuum all areas.
Make scones. To eat with blackcurrant jam.😀
DH can do the door and hopefully realise it needs staining again.

Looks like it is going to be showery today. We have had rain on and off for at least a week. Been around 22 - 26 C. I have lots of tomatoes that are starting to turn. Courgettes we can't keep up with. If you like them but have never grown them just put one or two seeds in. We have had about eight, some have been nearly marrows they are growing so fast. Would certainly feed a family. Going to make soup today. Broad beans not doing as well but have had a few. French beans are stilted by the bloody slugs. Coming on now though. Need more egg shells around them. Birds finished the black currants only a few left. We can go pick friends plums though.
The one thing about living in the country is there is usually someone with a glut of fruit or veg. We share so after the plums it will be apples and pears. Free food.😃
