Fledglings are awesome in August - the Flylady thread

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

This is the August thread so I am reliably informed that it is usually more of a general chat thread. Links won’t be posted by an official ‘thread leader’ every day but I will leave some links in this OP. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Happy flying everyone.

Yawn Brew

I had malteaser buttons last night. I prefer real malteasers i am afraid!

Thanks for all kind words relating to OH being a UC (useless cunt) The back story is more or less he likes to do the minimal amount in everything except things he enjoys. Meaning i do between 85 and 99% of everything in the house and with the DC. It just wears thin. He also doesnt like being told this and is unable to see his wrongs.

More of the same then ive Angry that's not good. I agree with you about malteser buttons I prefer real maltesers don't mess with perfection!

We've all had a proper nights sleep so feeling much better , ds is still asleep in fact. Today I am working and hopefully will get the home bleugh done too. I already swept the kitchen and swish and swiped the bathroom yesterday before bed so got a little headstart.

Welcome back sass!

IVEgotthePOWER · 13/08/2018 08:36

Nope its not good. I think as someone possibly zoo pointed out its going to come to a head once i am back at work full time in September. We are just not even on the same planet. It was very telling the other day we had a family thing on. I spent all morning rushing around organising it, for him to turn around and say "you do know we should have set off by now" while doing sweet FA to help. After the family thing we came home and he went and lay down and i rushed around again getting everyone fed and ready for bed and trying to tidy up.

IVEgotthePOWER · 13/08/2018 08:37

Welcome back sass Smile

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/08/2018 09:11

IVEgotthePOWER · 13/08/2018 09:13

Pah. It was someone. Unless i dreamt it.

We have multiple tubes toothpaste on the go too. Tbh i would have made him use another. But i am mean.

MsForestier · 13/08/2018 09:33

We're thinking of renovating our kitchen Bower, with perhaps an extension. Ramesh have been on my mind but not sure I'd use all the ovens enough to justify. I'm putting the whole project on the long finger - can't bear the thoughts of the mess...

Is it zone 3 this week?

MsForestier · 13/08/2018 09:34

Ranges I meant - who/ what is Ramesh?!

foxessocks · 13/08/2018 09:38

Ta da
Dishwasher emptied and loaded
Towel wash on
Living room hoovered
Downstairs mopped
Washing hang up

To do
Dusting
Hoover upstairs
Mop bathroom
Strip bed
Polish mirrors
Empty bins
Decluttering - still got last bits of paperwork to do, started going through my receipts yesterday but that was as far as I got.

Also got to do my actual work. My mum had collected the dc so I'm just relishing in the quiet before I get started. Will make a Brew first obviously Grin

foxessocks · 13/08/2018 09:41

We've been thinking of getting a new bathroom recently and we need new kitchen too but have decided to put it all off for the time being due to insufficient funds! It has got me thinking though whether we can kind of do up our existing bathroom and kitchen just by painting, new bath panel, mirror that kind of thing and same for kitchen. Dh painted our skirting boards yesterday in the living room and it's amazing the difference a little thing like that makes. Ive you've been painting recently haven't you? What were you doing?

MsForestier · 13/08/2018 09:47

Foxes, we need a new bathroom too. I think we'll get the floor fixed and out up with it. The house is beginning to look shabby and we're saving like mad to do stuff.

IVEgotthePOWER · 13/08/2018 09:48

Foxes i have been finishing my kitchen that was started a year ago lol. Last week i did a wall (3 coats, a beam and a window sill) All the walls that had already been 'finished' last year need redoing as the paint used wasnt the kind you can wash so you can imagine what it looks like after a year of ds3 throwing food around in there! It looks lots better from what i did last week though! I might do a bit when the small one has his nap 🎨

HonkyWonkWoman · 13/08/2018 09:51

Need to get going today as not much flying was done yesterday, due to being shattered after later Saturday night.

Ta da
Fed cat and dog
Empty dw
👀 at ironing pile getting higher.
Wipe kitchen tops
Sweep and mop kitchen floor
Swish and swipe.

To do
Polish downstairs
Vacuum all through
Including the dreaded stairs 😱
Food shop as only got bits yesterday.

Hope everyone ok!

Bowerbird5 · 13/08/2018 10:10

Hi Sass

I've what was it? It might have been me but I can't find what you are asking😟
MsF he never usually asks for a list. I'm doing it next. Hope he still means it.

We've Ben thinking about the kitchen for a year. Our kitchen is 31 years old so even though I thought about painting it some of the units are falling to bits the sink unit and a drawer unit. We never replaced the shelves with cupboards so it would be great to have more space. I am going to have a baking cupboard. It comes right down to the worktop but folds back so my mixer will be inside. Then all the baking equipment will be on one side and the ingredients on the other instead of me trying to find stuff crammed in to a base unit. We were going to keep the cooker but it started to go wrong at Christmas. It will be costly but our last unless we ever move.
Right off to make the list and get cracking.

MsForestier · 13/08/2018 10:27

Bower I had a baking cupboard but it was sacrificed to allow the tumble dryer in from the garage. Our kitchen was in the house already when we came so it's 17 years old. It's dark in a north facing drab room and beginning to look really shabby. I'd love a baking cupboard back and I'm going to have a look today at what we need to store. So the plastic crap cupboard will be decluttered. I'd like more freezer space too. Perhaps a double oven. It should be fun not daunting but it feels daunting.

Cagliostro · 13/08/2018 10:37

I agree ive I think once you are out working you will be even less inclined to put up with his crap.

I quite like the buttons! DH got heroes today as well since we have DSS round for the day playing games etc.

DH has been cleaning up this morning and I haven't. It's all about the resting.

I realised the other day that I can offer some of those plastic tubs (old trofast that we have replaced, and wilko lidded tubs we have too many of now we have unpacked some) to a couple of friends who are moving soon. Yay!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 13/08/2018 11:11

Morning all, we are on the way to visit my parents for a few days. I have packed too much stuff but we did actually make it out of the house by 9am which was amazing.

Great to have you back sass Smile.

MercuryRising · 13/08/2018 11:57

I've maybe dp will step up when you start working and he realises you can't actually do everything? If not I think you are right and it will come to a head.

It is cool and damp here today and our car is in the garage (the worst possible combination in the holidays) so I have been baking cakes with the dc and we are off to search for painted rocks which have been hidden around our village soon. Hopefully it will stop the moaning about being bored ( I'm sure when we were younger we entertained ourselves and didn't expect to be doung something every second of every day. Dd in particular drives me potty asking what we are doing every 5 minutes!!)

Flying has been minimal. So far I have hung washing on the airer, put another washload in, washed up and cleaned the kitchen and made the beds. I could do with decluttering a cupboard of books to see what I can charity shop.

foxessocks · 13/08/2018 12:21

mercury my dd does that she asks "what are we doing tomorrow?" And that's usually before we have even started that days activities!! To be fair though she is fine when we are at home and will happily play , but she just has to know what we have planned!!

Ive you've done well with all that painting.
I'm hopeless at it, luckily dh is very good at anything DIY related so I tend to leave him to it and stick to my own skills i.e. cooking and baking , he doesn't complain but I do feel like a bit of a stereotype sometimes 😂. He can cook and will cook though I just like doing it.

foxessocks · 13/08/2018 12:22

My house definitely looks shabby round the edges!! But it always has as it does need stuff doing but since we moved in we've had two children, dh works more than full time, I work a little bit, dh studying as well...not much time. And no money!

Cagliostro · 13/08/2018 13:31

I have antiprocrastinated and downgraded my bank account. Saves some money. Been meaning to do this for, erm, years.

Also played ticket to ride europe and won.

Also also... Cagletini took a step unaided. While screaming blue murder so it wasn't as happy a moment as it could have been 😂

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 13/08/2018 13:56

foxes and mercury, both my DDs are planners too. DD1 more so. They always need to know the plan!
