Fledglings are awesome in August - the Flylady thread

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

This is the August thread so I am reliably informed that it is usually more of a general chat thread. Links won’t be posted by an official ‘thread leader’ every day but I will leave some links in this OP. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Happy flying everyone.

Morning all! Hope the weather is good in your particular neck of the woods!

Hills I suspect my rambling tales of agricultural life may be putting people off!

Safe travelling and hope you have a lovely (and much deserved!) break Toostressy!

(I will be disappearing off thread shortly until the end of the month too owing to a combo of various sets of visitors arriving tomorrow, travel, dhorse etc.)

How you are fitting painting in on top of everything else I cannot imagine I've! Star

Oh your dgs sounds like such a lovely lad Honky I hope the boat brings him some comfort.

Waves to Cordelia hope you are enjoying your new garden!

Thank you Cineraria sorry to waffle on but I am finding it really exciting!! Grin I was so proud of dhorse yesterday because he stood so calmly and kindly as four visiting Dutch children groomed him all over! All in fairly new surroundings and with people he didn't know. (The children it must be said were very well behaved and polite with him too, as well as being engaged, which helps a lot!). Despite a 16 hr day ohydically demanding yesterday, I still couldn't sleep when I went to bed because I was still excited! Grin. We are p!aying it by ear as to how long he stays!

As for cjs, I have one in written form but is has sort of evolved in to a house manual for when we go away but it still does contain my weekly timetable, daily, weekly, monthly, 3-monthly, 6,-monthly and annual routines, important tel numbers (localmpolice, plumber, vet etc), important addresses (house insurance etc) and other important things about house ie (location of fuse box, stop cock etc). Can't say I look at it much any more and think CJ concept in general has been overtaken by technology and various house-keeping apps.

CAG hope shaky wierd feeling dissipates soon! Enjoy the Kallax!

Bower that is an absolutely evil genius tactic of your DH! (Noting for poss future use!!)

Zoo it rained here properly hard yesterday too! Couldn't quite get my head around the fact I had to put on a rain coat after previous heat! Bizarre!

Cheery wing flaps to Goth, Honu, Whoknows Foxes and to everyone else I've missed!!

Yesterday was a blur but ta das involved scrubbing lavs, scrubbing huge pile horse poo out of back of trailer, hauling hay, hoovered house, hauled water carrier in wheel barrow, hauled shavings, made deep bed with DD, dusted sitting room and hoovered, served tea for eight, strimming, got soaked three times, - DD helped and she was really pro-active, thoughtful, helpful and kind with visiting DC (proud old ma emoticon) - conceived and wrote a treasure hunt, hefted various DC on top of various hay bales, cooked and served and tidied up supper for three (home made burgers with salad).

Today DD and I have taken it in turns to ride dhorse, from him, I've cooked scrambled egg on toast for three. Now with strong cup coffee and contemplating much needed cleaning of windows!

Have a good day everyone -and if I'm not back - a lovely time for the rest of the holidays!!

Neiiiigggggghhhhhhhhhh and tallyyyyy- hoooooooo!!

🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎😆

Scoopofchaff · 10/08/2018 10:02

Gah! From him = groom him!!

Cagliostro · 10/08/2018 10:08

Tally ho sc :)

Right. Have had breakfast and now off to build trofast by myself - bliss!

Cagliostro · 10/08/2018 11:58

Built in just over 30 minutes, not bad! Maybe I should have taken my time a bit more though and enjoyed the relative peace for a bit longer.

I have also filled a wicker Kallax basket with nappy change stuff, I think I may put it in the TV unit as there's a spare space for now and that frees up more space for books in the other one. Plus it is most convenient (normally change her on the mat on the sofa as I can't manage the floor).

I have also put the unopened nappies and wipes packets in a trofast bucket, and filled another with all the random cables and batteries, to go in the long cupboard. Really trying to have a place for everything.

I can't see me leaving the house today, feel wiped out and a bit blah. Cagletini is like a little kamikaze demon ATM and it's very draining!

foxessocks · 10/08/2018 12:55

That's good going cag I'm hopeless with stuff like that Blush

Ta da
Last swimming lesson for dd
Been to park with friends , started raining hard so have come home for lunch
Sandwiches made for dc
Emptied out car

To do
Daily routine
Swish and swipe downstairs loo
Declutter bag and purse
More paper decluttering - last bit of paperwork upstairs not too much left thank goodness.
Dinner later - chicken and vegetable casserole with sweet potato / normal mash

Me and dd have got jumpers on it's chilly here! She was running around in the park in t shirt and shorts so think she got a bit cold. Bad mummy forgot any jumpers or coats as we haven't really needed them for so long.

MercuryRising · 10/08/2018 15:50

Tally ho SC it sounds like you are having a fantastic time with dhorse.

We had a lovely afternoon with friends yesterday. Last night we had the food shop delivered and I began ordering some school bits for dd.

Today has been a much lazier day. It has rained and been a lot cooler so we have coloured and snuggled under a blanket while watching TV and reading. It has been great after 2 days of entertaining.

foxessocks · 10/08/2018 16:08

I'm so so tired and I don't really know why! Maybe it's the sudden change in weather and I've been sitting around this afternoon, think I need to get on with my list might wake me up a bit.

Ta da
Collected empty glasses from upstairs
Dishwasher on
Washing on

IVEgotthePOWER · 10/08/2018 16:18

Same here foxes lay on my bed for like an hour before thinking 'i want a brew' Blush

Been out this morning and sorted more bits uniform. Not getting polos from tesco they can piss off. £5 for 2 when asda has 5 for about £8. Need suss out if ds2 actually needs any trousers. Lack of growth. Only ds1 actually NEEDS school shoes. So i might leave the other two for now. Picked up some sale bits for ds3 for nursery. Ds1&2 both need new bag. All 3 need water bottles.

foxessocks · 10/08/2018 17:16

We still need socks, water bottle , pe shorts and shoes I think I've (although obviously just dd starting school here so not as much stuff in general to get as you!!)

Ta da
Tidied up generally
Decluttered more paper from spare room - will it ever end?!
Changed dd bed sheet
Chicken casserole simmering, potatoes boiling for mash
Updated online food shop

To do
Finish dinner
Empty dishwasher
Hang up washing

Can't be arsed with swishing and swiping, think I have sustained an injury from picking ds up, feels like repetitive strain or something, it has been coming and going but it really really hurts now!

Asked dh to pick up some fruit from the supermarket earlier on his lunch break and he messaged me saying he'd pick up chocolate too as it's Friday, then he came home and said he got the fruit but forgot the chocolate!! ShockAngry what's that all about!?

Still tired but slightly more energy now I've actually done some stuff.

Cagliostro · 10/08/2018 17:19

Gah. Lost a post earlier. Was basically just thinking out loud though, about what to store where. I think all the decision making is tiring me out! I had a brief nap though and feel a tiny bit better.

Felt tips and fineliners sorted, chucked a load of pencils and cheap biros but still have more to sort out. Really quite silly how much we still had considering I got rid of lots in March.

Cagliostro · 10/08/2018 17:21

Forgot the chocolate!!! Awful.

I actually wrote "lots of yummy carby stuff" on the shopping list for DH earlier. I don't feel like he got enough to qualify as lots though!

IVEgotthePOWER · 10/08/2018 17:47

🍫🍦🥨🥞🧀🍔🍟🍕🌭🌯🍿🍩🍪🍰🥧

HillsBesideTheSea · 10/08/2018 18:16

I managed to try to put my head through a table this morning trying to pick up some laundry I dropped. Nice red bump and a sore neck for my trouble. Dealt ds' dad and managed not to call him names to his face, you can always tell when he is between girlfriends Hmm
ds has been feed what he feels to be a meal for kings lots of protein that he will eat So am currently curled up in bed waiting for an hour to pass so I can get food and take antibiotics, to sit reading or something for 2 hours before I can lie down and sleep. I just want to lie down and sleep I feel like crap.

Givemeallyourcucumber · 10/08/2018 20:45

Evening ladies (are there any men here?)
What a lot to catch up on!

Last day of holiday today. Looking forward to getting home and reading my fly lady book!

Will catch up soon

Hope everyone is flying high

Smile
Givemeallyourcucumber · 10/08/2018 20:49

Oh one practical thing I did on holiday was a 4 week meal plan!
I can rotate the weeks which means no more meal planning until we get bored of it.
I felt rather proud of myself!

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/08/2018 21:11

Been rough couple days.feeling rather low, zoolets are constantly fight or on devices regardless whether I tell them to get off.ive not really spoken anyone in days-dp was feeling rather antisocial and said little, mostly only to zoolets
Tired
Tada
Naff all
Enjoy time dhorse SC

IVEgotthePOWER · 10/08/2018 21:26

zoo Flowers

CassandraLamontaigne · 10/08/2018 21:29

foxesa how annoying about the chocolate
hills you poor thing, that sounds miserable. I hope you're tucked up in bed by now.
zoo in the interests of your own head space could you just let the zoolets on the devices? Or is that bad parenting Blush?

I've been keeping on top of laundry and tidying. Hoovering too. Will whizz around again tomorrow with the Hoover.

Ta da
Pulled up weeds from flagstones around house. Looks so much better. Nearly finished, will do it tomorrow.

To do
I also want to wipe the cobwebs etc off the front door and make it presentable. Irish - style we never actually use the front door but fly lady says it makes a statement about your house so I'm gonna spend 15 mins sorting it

CassandraLamontaigne · 10/08/2018 21:31

What I like about fly lady is the permission to only do 15 mins. I'm a perfectionist so if I can't do it all perfectly I won't start it eg if I want to wash the windows I'll have to do them all and that's a major job so it never gets done. But one a day is do-able.

Just wanted to put that out there!

Cagliostro · 10/08/2018 22:08

(((zoo)))

Completely agree cass it has really helped me to just start something as doing it quickly is better than never doing it.

Family fun this evening as DSD is here, we played a great little game called Randomise, it is like charades and pictionary and I ended up drawing a scared snake taking a selfie and a tired peacock digging a hole, while DH mimed a royal kangaroo hitchhiking.

Not much done in practical terms although I did wash up after dinner.

What are you supposed to do with used cooking oil?

Givemeallyourcucumber · 10/08/2018 22:36

Cagliostro

Sound like my kind of game. We get a new family board game every year as a Christmas treat. I think it will have to be this one.

And old cooking oil... Maybe save it incase we start running cars of it? Save yourself a few ££s in the future!! fly lady would tell me to shut up and stop hoarding

Cagliostro · 10/08/2018 22:44

:o I don't have a car but that made me LOL while also thinking good idea!

I love games, we have pushing 200 if you include stuff like top trumps, it is the main reason we needed so much kallax! I am already loving having them easier to access. It will take a while to get them all sorted though, ideally I would like to have them in some form of categories eg word games all together, cooperative games together etc.

My boob hurts :( baby is on the brink of three new top teeth all at once.

ILoveDolly · 10/08/2018 23:00

Hi everyone, just flying in lol, I try and keep up via the app but I have found this thread... useful. I like the rotating meal plan suggestion, I have started a list of my families fave meals but not done the actual plan yet.

Bowerbird5 · 10/08/2018 23:50

🐴 Sounds lovely and quiet.

Bloody IPad.I wrote and about to post this morning and lost it again. It just suddenly disappears and I lose connection to Mumsnet but straight back on. Grr so irritating. Going for short posts but might be lots of them instead of one long one! Bear with me please.
Had to go out to town.
Local show tomorrow always good so will be looking at horses there.
Went to interesting talk tonight.
Kallax good Cags. Looked to see on IKEA site. Oh yes,I have one of those. I have turquoise one in my craft room. Very useful for wool. Magazines. Felt etc.
DH is inebriated. I only left him for two hours. He was finishing his second pint and going home. He is snoring like a pig and farting. The other night I threatened to smother him with a pillow. He remembered in the morning😳 I would sleep in DDs bed but I might break my neck in there getting up for loo. I might have to go on sofa.
Went to look at kitchen and cooker DH thinks we should buy both.wonders if he has a secret stash of money.😮 Right post before I lose it again.

Bowerbird5 · 11/08/2018 00:01

I do that at school Cags.
Tray for card games.
Maths games- dominoes, Snakes & Ladders, maths lotto, Headache.
Literacy- speech, imagination( Never Ending Stories)lotto word games.
200 is a lot😳😁

DH has just got up and knocked into something. I suggested he put his bedside light on. 😳 He said, " I didn't know I had one."
It matches the one on my side. I bought them in LAshley sale about five years ago!
