Fledglings are awesome in August - the Flylady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 31/07/2018 19:05

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

This is the August thread so I am reliably informed that it is usually more of a general chat thread. Links won’t be posted by an official ‘thread leader’ every day but I will leave some links in this OP. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Happy flying everyone.

I've I had the rage and more than words were said.i think ears have been firmly singed by my fire breathing as cups are on table not distributed around house and the snack consumed rubbish made it to the kitchen binWink

Wow SC you have a celebrity in your midst.glad it cooler for his visit!!

IVEgotthePOWER · 09/08/2018 12:08

Ah i would have loved ds3 to have been a girl to even things up! Dd was not impressed at another brother..... "but i ordered a GIRL" Blush

IVEgotthePOWER · 09/08/2018 12:09

Well done zoo i may have threatened to make them eat it 🤣

Cagliostro · 09/08/2018 13:42

Sounds like when I had DS, everyone popping their head round to see the big baby (he was 11lb14oz), we were like celebrities those three days I was in hospital :o I could tell when the shift changed as we'd get a whole new lot of visitors :o

Unpacked more into the kallax although the Caglets are now making a den. It'll take a while to get everything in the right places but for now at least stuff is off the floor mostly. Still more books to bring down. Old trofast is in the shed so will get whatever buckets we don't need for toys, to store all the small sports club stuff and tools. Progress! But tired and shaky today so taking it slow

Scoopofchaff · 09/08/2018 14:12

Grin Cag

foxessocks · 09/08/2018 14:22

cag Shock wow that is a big baby!

Ta da
Made biscuits except they look like a biscuit / cake cross so not sure I was quite right with the recipe!!
Booked in MOT
Put washing on

To do
Put dishwasher on
Swish and swipe bathroom
Decluttering
Dinner
Collapse

I'm exhausted today!

Cagliostro · 09/08/2018 15:51

:o he certainly was (undiagnosed GD hence being tested early with Cagletini) he's totally normal now though, average height and weight so you'd never know. It was literally the first thing the midwife said though, oh my God he's massive :o also said he'd need a school uniform rather than a babygro which is ironic really as he doesn't go to school now.

I am so hungry today! We are having turkey dinosaurs (well actually they are emojis Hmm) as I forgot lunch. I am not organised today!

I was going to do bolognese in the slow cooker but I'm thinking it's too late now

HillsBesideTheSea · 09/08/2018 16:56

We are having oven chips and battered fish for tea tonight (well the men of the house are). I am having ice cream for tea. Feeling crap, antibiotics are making me feel more crap atm. But having only had 2 doses of a 14 dose course it is not really surprising I am not feeling great atm tbh. I just have unrealistic expectations of myself too often atm Blush

foxessocks · 09/08/2018 17:04

Now I really want turkey dinosaurs and chips!!

Ta da
Decluttered letter rack, all of dd school paperwork as loads was really unnecessary , all papers on the table and kitchen side
Swish and swipe bathroom
dishwasher on and emptied again
Roast potatoes in oven

To do
Finish dinner - pork chops and veg to go
Hang washing up

Dc have started their pre-dinner fighting Angry

I've actually managed to play the 🎹 today and I've been listening to music instead of the dc watching TV for once Grin

Cagliostro · 09/08/2018 18:25

Yay for piano! I haven't touched mine since we moved.

One trofast unit left to build today. Tomorrow we will do the girls' kallax and the little glass cabinet that will go in the kallax downstairs for our "geek shelf"

I am irrationally pleased by one particular bit which has a tray for paper, and pen pots fit neatly underneath. Yay! It'll take a long time to organise all the shelves though. Currently the books and games are in no order at all. Not that it matters as obviously the baby is pulling them all off anyway!

I got a rudimentary bolognese in the slow cooker, put it on high. Lunch was so ridiculously late anyway. Meh

Cagliostro · 09/08/2018 20:13

Bolognese was good. Couldn't stave off the Caglets any longer. I've left it on low though as we've got plenty left... Assuming DH doesn't eat it all. I think next time I'll have to get double the mince if I want to batch cook to any significant level.

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/08/2018 20:28

It's finally proper raining hard here
Scoutcat come in and laying on dd2 shaking water over her and stamp excitedly bless him!!kits are banished to upper floor so the old fella can chills and be fussed over by his human slaves in peaceGrin

HillsBesideTheSea · 09/08/2018 22:24

I do hope it is a quiet thread because people are enjoying rl and it is not because bat shit craziery is going on.

May holidays be nice, children not completely ferral and wars short and graceful. also minions to do all the chores plentiful

Bowerbird5 · 09/08/2018 22:46

Our excuse now not to do anything is " I've got the cat!" DH got me to make the cheese and biscuits and I got him to take the plates out and make a cup of tea😄 DD is away so cat is needing a bit of cuddling. It climbs on DH who isn't that keen on animals. Cats are funny like that aren't they. We discovered that she likes sheep cheese but not goat!

SC ahhh! Lovely news re dhorse and dneighbours. Ours was sometimes tethered on the village greens and lots of the locals used to give her titbits or just a good pat or stratch.

We've been to kitchen place again and had good chat about changing design then went to look at Everhot range and chat to them. They are bringing out anew one and we could have one in 8 weeks. If we make our mind up about kitchen we might be able to get it started Oct/Nov. I would say yes but I worry about the expense. It will be my last kitchen though. DH says I overthink things. We then went to look at worktops. We always had Formica but looked at Quartz this afternoon. Massive pieces of beautiful stone. Only one I would actually like in our kitchen which was very unusual especially colours in it. Lots were really meant for islands but this would split well for worktops. There was no one around to ask about price. Then at 3pm we went for something to eat. I had a sweet potato, carrot and coconut soup with soda bread yum. Going to try and recreate it at home. If not I am going to take them a recipe for vegan cake and see if they will swap. DH had the same and a cheese and chutney panini.
Easy tea. Not much flying done just S&S, dishwasher, kitchen floor washed.vacuumed sitting room.
Off to look at IKEA to see what Cags has been buying. Sounds good Cags and you have really been busy.

Bowerbird5 · 09/08/2018 22:52

Oh zoo re teens and laziness, leaving stuff around. DH got fed up with DD doing that and one day went around after her and put everything and I mean everything that she left around in her bed. He never said a word and when she went to bed great cries of " What the hell?" I didn't know he had done it. She became more careful. There was a bowl of left over cereal amongst it.😱

Cagliostro · 09/08/2018 23:16

That is genius! I would totally do that to my DCs but I am just as guilty so it would be a tad hypocritical. I'm getting better at putting things away and cleaning as I go but there's still a gap between using and resolving!

Didn't get to build the other trofast. But DH is off tomorrow. This house is really taking shape! I'm a little concerned all this kallax still isn't enough. But we need to get DD's up and unpack more boxes. They are reducing. In particular the big pile of stuff next to the TV is gone which makes this half of the room look bigger.

So tomorrow, build furniture, unpack more boxes. Get blood test (follow up). Decide a damn internet provider! Enjoy our first roast dinner in the new oven. Get Caglets to sort pens and pencils, I may need another set of pots (sainsburys picnic tumblers). Put all the random cables in a trofast drawer to go in long cupboard. General housework no doubt.

That's enough I think. Still been feeling weird, shaky and insatiably hungry. Odd.

Cagliostro · 09/08/2018 23:39

I'm trying to think of what will actually go in DD's kallax other than her and Cagletini's clothes. They could have books etc but I'm also quite taken by the idea of keeping all like things in one place. Simple and easier to tidy etc without arguments over whose book goes where etc. Argh it's a thinker.

Also complicated by the fact Cagletini will obviously have more toys in future (she's already got things like duplo as we were about to get rid when I got my BFP), at present her baby toys are all downstairs but when she's older she will have the same rule of toys being upstairs (obviously can play down here but have to put away upstairs - Caglets are doing brilliantly adapting to this). DD1 doesn't have many toys that are just hers but those she does have fit better in trofast which are in the hallway upstairs. DS just has a few toys in his room like transformers which are only his.

And I still haven't figured out what the Jeff to do with all the Lego!

Cineraria · 10/08/2018 00:24

So exciting to hear about your horse arriving, SC. How long is he staying with you? I think I'd want to go and be nosy if one of my neighbours had a horse arrive to stay for a while too!

IVE I complained to my mum about my brother too. I'd written quite clearly on my letter to Father Christmas that I wanted a Girl's World and twin sisters, so I'd been pretty sure he'd arrange things as requested and then somehow a boy turned up instead!

Good luck with the unloading and the first roast tomorrow, Cagliostro!

I was thinking I'd get lots done today as we had to stay in for a builder from the insurance company to come and look at a leak from our bathroom to the kitchen to cost the stripping out of bath, tiles etc. Normally we go out most days so the DSes don't have time to make much mess but then I only have nap time to do housework. The baby was so clingy though and was climbing my leg the whole time and then he made a mess whilst having some nappy free time and crawled it across the room. Ugh! The poor thing's reflux was also bad and it seemed like every time I left the room, I came back to a puddle and so I spent the morning cleaning with no progress to show for it. I think it's his top front teeth cutting through as he has a slight temperature too.

Anyway, I got very little done today, here it is:
Called the HV to chase the baby's 12 month review then spent ages working out where the centre I have to go to for it is located and how would be easiest to get there on public transport with a pushchair and buggy board
Swept, mopped and dusted the downstairs
My baby step was a five minute room rescue, so I cleared through the stuff in our spare bedroom, most of which is to be bagged up to go in the loft or got rid of, so I can get to the futon, the wardrobe and the windows.
I got confused on the missions and did tomorrow's kitchen mopping rather than today's countertops but that should be ok.

Have others here made up their control journals? I don't think I found mine useful after its initial creation last time. I don't like papers in folders really so I was thinking of doing an electronic version in Google Drive but maybe there is some advantage of a paper version that I've not thought of.

Callmecordelia · 10/08/2018 06:01

Hills, just wanted to reassure you that I'm not here much because we are on holiday (at home). Can't afford to go away, but we live in a lovely place where people go on holiday, so it's fine. We did one big clear up last Friday and then fun things after.

I use the Google keep app on my phone for lists. Gradually I've built one up that has most household tasks on it, and as you can untick stuff and put the task back to the top it works quite well.

IVEgotthePOWER · 10/08/2018 06:34

I have still been plodding on with painting

Yesterday painted a wall, a beam and a window sill. Also washed and dried a pair of curtains which now need ironing. Went to the shops for top up and sorted a birthday present.

Return to work childcare is partially sorted. Dont need it for older 3 until September so dragging feet a bit....

Ds3 up at 5am. Yawn.

HillsBesideTheSea · 10/08/2018 08:29

Urgh.

Someone got a delivery this morning. Very glad as my alarm didn't appear to go off and if it did I slept through it. Blush

To do
Laundry
work
pack ds' stuff
and that they say is that.

HonkyWonkWoman · 10/08/2018 08:44

I dropped a pile of towels off at the RSPCA yesterday as well foxes!
Went round to my DDad's bungalow to get them with Dgs10 and he got a bit tearful, he adored his GGDad, he'd been going out for lunch with him every week and playing domino's with him, since he was 2.
I distracted him by getting him to look at ornaments and said he could have anything he wanted. He chose a miniature wooden sailing ship and said he'd always wanted it. Bless him!
We went for lunch to a country pub after dropping the towels off, he's such good company.
My flying has consisted of tootling around at Dd's house, keeping her washing up and swishing and swiping around mine.
Wing flaps to all.....

IVEgotthePOWER · 10/08/2018 08:54

Oh bless him honky Smile My 10 year old only talks about computer games and football....

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 10/08/2018 09:03

I’m here, have been trying to get things finished at work as I’m now off for my holidays! At home I have been attempting to pack for holiday. I wish I could master packing light.
