Fledglings are awesome in August - the Flylady thread

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

This is the August thread so I am reliably informed that it is usually more of a general chat thread. Links won’t be posted by an official ‘thread leader’ every day but I will leave some links in this OP. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Happy flying everyone.

Mercury - a couple of months back Zoo staged a protest carried out an experiment to find out how many empty big rolls would pile up in bathroom before someone else but her took action. I think the result was a staggering 70 something before she cracked!! (Is that right Zoo; can't quite remember exact number now!!??)

Scoopofchaff · 09/08/2018 04:57

Big rolls = loo rolls!!

Bugger! I can't sleep! May as well get up!

Bowerbird5 · 09/08/2018 06:02

Hi,
Foxes a very special letter. Sad about not meeting her own grandchildren. I am starting to worry that will be me.

I went out with my friend and two of her 6 yesterday as she had appointment at hospital. Had a lovely few hours out. The countryside was beautiful over there. We could see right up to Scotland from the top it was so clear. The children were fine when out but bickered in the car. We stopped for tea and cake at the farm cafe. They have about 8 large cakes and small ones and tray bakes to chose from mmmmm.
Had to stop to let them have a roadside wee later then they played in my garden for about an hour while friend had a break and tea before driving home. Best friend called in just as we were speaking about her so they had a catch up which was lovely. Arranged afternoon tea for the opening of the summer house next month.😄

In the morning I got some de cluttering done and DH took four loads to son 2s to wash😀 While I was out. Went to pub and didn't come home. Now have a job for a fortnight house and dog sitting for a new local! Yes, alcohol did fuel my desicions. It was offered to a young lad we know who couldn't do it so DH said you could do it. So I went out and offered.😳😁😱
I know the house well as I was great friends with someone who lived there and DD also had a friend who lived in it.
Plan for today
More decluttering
Going to change kitchen plans and see when they could do it. Speak to them about washing machine too.
Garden centre for lunch and replace plants in one wall basket,
as died.
Iron and put away clothes.
Declutter one school bag.
Change bedding as DH hadn't done it yesterday😗
Vacuum downstairs as DH didn't put box on lawnmower and has walked in grass and bits through downstairs. Never wipes his bloody feet. All our kids do still because they were well trained( shouted at!) and they take there shoes off in own houses. All their houses are tidier than mine☺️ As no clutter so easy to clean and keep tidy. DDs wasn't.
Hate to tell you this but still picking up after her and she is 27. I just chuck it on her bed though.

I gave away two jigsaws yesterday. Felt good. Two more to church on Sunday. Might clear a space on table and DH and I could do another and give to friend for hospice. Did think about keeping a couple to do for summer house.

Supper tonight. Smoked salmon and toasted crusty bread.Quiche I bought at farm shop with new potatoes and salad. Cheese and crusty bread or oatcakes. I have managed to buy sheeps cheese and tried some goats which wasn't goaty so going to try it and see what happens. Very easy tea bought all but salad at farm shop all lovely local products cheese the furthest was Harrogate and Wednesleydale cheese. Mmm. No cooking to mess up my very clean hob.

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/08/2018 06:12

SC it was 70,and it's almost u to same again I fear...I am NOT doing it this time!!
Enjoy horses visit!!

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/08/2018 06:14

Gah up not u.andi give up on punctuation,I know how many equine you have visiting....

Bowerbird5 · 09/08/2018 06:14

Sc exciting. Imagining horse arriving now. Can remember how excited I was at fourteen. Then he didn't arrive that night as expected but I woke at 4am and went out and thought I could see something in the paddock through the misty morning and there he stood. I was so thrilled. I hadn't seen him before as he was given to me by a previous owner who had been offered him back. Broke my heart when I had to leave him and always intended going to get him back. Promised him but met DH and still in this country so never saw him again. Still have photos of him.😪 enjoy yours.

Funny how they can work computers and mobile phones but loo roll changing is beyond them! Have the same problem. DH can get one out of packet but leaves packet somewhere ( not necessarily in the bathroom) and sits loo roll next to it in basket or on top of loo not actually on the rack specially bought as it holds one ready and three or four spare. Perhaps in house training today is required today!

Bowerbird5 · 09/08/2018 06:15

😁 Morning zoo.

foxessocks · 09/08/2018 07:12

Morning all!

Oh yes zoo I remember the 70 loo rolls!Shock

I'm just relishing in the fact that it's dark and cool in my room this morning! We are due to have rain all day which is much needed I think. And luckily we didn't have any plans to be out much today. We are going to swimming and then going to run some errands which the dc will hate! I want to take all the recycling and a load of towels to the RSPCA and I need to go to the butchers. Might have to bribe the dc with some ice cream the butchers sell some nice locally made ones.

Hope all going well with dhorse arrival sc

IVEgotthePOWER · 09/08/2018 07:39

Morning all

How old are dc mercury

foxes think i still have maternity file from all 4 dc no doubt containing random useless leaflets and stuff. What a lovely letter though!

I have been painting on and off past couple of days, just an hour or two a day while ds3 is asleep

Should be starting new job in next two weeks so would like things to look a bit better before that. Reduced hours in holidays though, full time in Sept 😑 can i do it or will my house fall apart.....time will tell.....

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/08/2018 07:48

As long as you don't fall apart I've that's the most important thing!

Tada
Wash on
Lav cleaned
Littertray and bins sorted
Deep clean living room(moving EVERYTHING)in hunt dvd remote.bastard was wedged under a sofa along dd2 missing sunglasses
Also found a banana skin liquidating.ffsAngryI seem have drop where I am people dominating my house too SC.it's seriously getting not my goat but a whole herd...

*Foxes real butcher, real ice-cream and rain- a forgot mix to many!!

Zoolets are fed and watered, washed up.need clean the debris of cereal off dining table before steroid kitty Hoover's it up(increases apetite, darn thing eats everything itshouldnt.i mean nut milk cereal.spinach poisonious to cats really?)

IVEgotthePOWER · 09/08/2018 08:17

I will keep some duck tape to hand zoo incase i need holding together Smile

I would be going MENTAL over the banana skin. Yuck. I get the rage enough about penguin wrappers on the kitchen table. Aside from ds3 everyone here is capable of using a bloody bin.

Scoopofchaff · 09/08/2018 08:24

Hello all! Thanks for the good wishes! Dhorse rolled up this morning with his suitcase and sunglasses ready for his holiday with us!! 3 seconds after arriving he was eating grass like a trooper, so doesn't seem too bothered by his change of location. He's a very laid back boy! Grin

He's done a quick tour of the field, first walking and peeing, then at a canter. Just waiting for him to encounter the electric fence (ouch!) don't worry he's a big lad and it's set very carefully to safe levels.

Bower what a beautiful story (and memory) about your pony appearing in the mist!! It's so sad though when you have to leave them behind!!

Zoo bloomin' eck, it was 70!! Grin That must be some kind of record! Yurgh about liquidating banana skin!!

I've glad you finally have start date! Hats off to you for juggling it all!

Aw that's good of you to take the trouble with the towels Foxes, I'm sure the furries will appreciate it!

Excited wing flaps to all!

We have had three visitors since dhorse arrived this morning; he is apoarently the talk of our little hamlet! Just as well I was up at 5.00 am to clean the lav Grin

IVEgotthePOWER · 09/08/2018 08:28

3 VISITORS! please tell me its like 2pm where you are....

Bowerbird5 · 09/08/2018 08:49

3 visitors already 😳

Funny thing is when I had to wait for my children's pony( from vet I used to work with at stud) it was a smaller version of my old pony only her star was slightly larger. Both bright bays no socks just a star. We couldn't part with her even when DD was too big for her so retired her and she lived out her days in a beautiful place. She was 30 and we had her for 22 years. She was a 12:2 Riding pony with lots of famous Welsh blood, her dad was a bit of a star.

HonkyWonkWoman · 09/08/2018 10:07

How exciting for your Dd having her pony to stay sg! Lovely for all of you really, they're such beautiful animals.
Good luck with all your extra visitors over the day! 😂
Very sad about your sil mum foxes, it brings things in perspective really.
Glad you enjoyed your day out with friend and her Dgc's Bower. Where are you, if you can see Scotland from where you are?
There was a bit of a "to-do" when Dgd19 went up to the stables last night. Two sheep had got into Apache's field and locked horns, Dd and her tried to calm them until the owner came. He had to cut one of their horns off, they are so badly stuck. Pretty traumatic!

Ta da
Fed 🐱 and 🐕
Empty dw
Quick Swish and swipe
" Hoover
" Dust
Take Buffydog a walk.
Rush over to Dd to look after Dgs10
Get him up
Fed him French toast with a Brew (he's such little old man with his brews)😂

We're off to play Crown Green Bowling now, it's free in the Local Park every morning through the holidays and even though it's sort of an "old man's" game, it's apparently getting popular with young ones. He really likes it and is pretty good at it.

Anyway, back later.... Wing flaps to all......

MercuryRising · 09/08/2018 10:14

70 foxes that is shocking! Although if I didn't pick ours up I dread to think how many would collect on the bathroom windowsill before anybody else moved them!!

I've ds1 is 12, dd is 10 and ds2 is 2. Ds2 is a tornado which doesn't help with trying to keep the house tidy. How old are your dc?

I had a horrible nights sleep due to heartburn so we haven't long come downstairs. I have some uni friends visiting with their dc today so I need to get motivated.

Ta da
Bleach in toilet
Last nights washing up put away
Breakfast done and washed up
Microwave decluttered
Kitchen bin changed

To do
Empty bathroom bin
Swish and swipe bathroom
Bath ds2
Dust and hoover downstairs
Move sofa and retrieve toys from underneath
Make beds
Get dc to tidy their rooms
Pop to the shop to buy cakes and juice for this afternoon.

IVEgotthePOWER · 09/08/2018 10:22

mercury ds1 is 10, ds2 is 9, dd is 5 and ds3 is 21 months Smile is new baby boy or girl do you know?

HillsBesideTheSea · 09/08/2018 10:28

SC long rule the farming community who have been up since five and consider 8am visiting hours because they have been up for hours Grin they'd find me asleep or in pjs but yep gotta love them crazy people (ignores fact used to do 4am starts herself)

About to go throw water over the boy. He was warned. Today is the only day we can go to the uniform shop and he needs a new blazer. can't get the old one over his shoulders and move anymore, and even if it could I am NOT patching those elbows, pockets, hems etc that would need it. 2 years I am considering a win for it for the age group.

Cagliostro · 09/08/2018 10:40

I still need to actually buy a bin, we are just bagging everything up.

Ikea just delivered everything, baby is dropping off so as soon as I detach her from the boob Hmm :o we can crack on

Cagliostro · 09/08/2018 10:44

Oops the screen hadn't refreshed so I shall catch up later. Ive do you have childcare sorted or is that a job for the next few weeks?

We've already set up the clothing rail, it's very flimsy so I'm glad it's temporary! Trousers and underwear are on the tall thin kallax which is temporarily in our room while we work out what to do with it.

A wash is on as well. It's annoying that this is the time I can't do ta da lists (typing is a faff in this phone so it'd take too long) as I'm certainly more productive since moving here! Really need to stop procrastinating over the internet deal.

Scoopofchaff · 09/08/2018 10:51

Ooh she so sounds so beautiful Bower there's nothing like fine Welsh blood; 22 years really does qualify as member of the family!

Thanks for good wishes everyone!! Nah it's only 11.30 am here I've but all very early bird in them here agricultural climes Grin

And sorry, gave wrong impression, visitors didn't come in or anything (offered them coffee but they were only interested in dhorse whose reputation precedes him!!) Grin. So entertaining consisted of leaning on a fence, staring in a field, and chatting!

Visitors were:

  • sister of farmer where dhorse resides in term time who we met purely by chance when furry escaped, and was I believe God-sent because she has been so helpful and kind, introduced us to everyone, made us jam and cakes, slaughtered us chickens (!!), set us straight as to when one should drain ditches or prune trees in which season!
  • neighbour (who doesn't get on with first neighbour) who is one of horse keeping couple and is a small animal vet/artist/has organic potager who knew dhorse was arriving today and popped in on her way to work when she saw horse box)
  • mother of Dutch family who own holiday cottage down road (various branches of family visit it intermittently) who came to say she had heard about arrival of dhorse from neighbour1 and could she bring her 4 DC to visit him at 4pm this afternoon?

Suffice to say, everyone seems to know everyone's business here!! Grin

It is now (unbelievably!!) tipping it down with rain!! To think only two days ago we were worried about dhorse getting sun stroke! Now we are contemplating making up his stable for him (although he is a hardy sort) to get him out of the deluge. Rain is set to continue for hours!!

Waves to all! 🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎

Scoopofchaff · 09/08/2018 11:00

Ooh exciting about IKEA order CAG!

Indeed Hills most farmers seem to start work at 5.30 /6 am (well judging from the sound of the tractors rolling by anyway!). Good luck with blazer shopping!

Oh poor you Mercury hope you are not too tired today; heartburn is horrible. Enjoy your visitors (if you feel well enough)!

Oh no Honky that sounds awful about the sheep!! Enjoy the bowling!

Scoopofchaff · 09/08/2018 11:01

And great lists everyone btw!!

MercuryRising · 09/08/2018 11:22

I'VE the new baby is a boy which we are happy about. I think it will be lovely for ds2 to have a brother close in age to him and it also means we can reuse his clothes and toys.

foxessocks · 09/08/2018 11:46

Ta da
Dropped off towels to RSPCA - got soaked
Picked up order from butchers - got soaked
Took dd to swimming - got soaked
Attempted to take recycling but there was a lorry collecting from the bins and there wasn't really room for me to park and didn't want to get another soaking anyway! So that's all still in the boot of my car
Dishwasher emptied
General tidy
Chicken breasts in oven for lunch , going to make wraps but the dc were so hungry they are having a tuna sandwich as a snack while they wait Confused

To do
Swish and swipe bathroom
Book in MOT
More decluttering - want to do the paperwork that's all round the house next so we end up with everything in one place hopefully
Cook dinner later - pork chops tonight
Make biscuits

Didn't get ice-cream in the end as it just didn't seem like the weather for it now! Dd wanted hot chocolate instead!Grin
