Fledglings are awesome in August - the Flylady thread

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

This is the August thread so I am reliably informed that it is usually more of a general chat thread. Links won’t be posted by an official ‘thread leader’ every day but I will leave some links in this OP. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

August’s habit is laundry

beginner babysteps.

Happy flying everyone.

Only 7 more days of the holidays left, routines are shot, Gin stores are holding up, house doesn't look too bad and I'm almost on top of the washing.

Cagliostro · 07/08/2018 22:45

Welcome back mercury & goth :)

Knackered. Spent the afternoon shopping with Caglets, got more house stuff. Spent a fortune.

Lovely friend said do we need anything from ikea... What do I need from the marketplace that can't be ordered online? Not candles or photo frames :o

Scoopofchaff · 07/08/2018 23:44

Good to have you back Goth!!

Whoo hoo!! Whooo hey!! Seriously seriously mahoosive lightening and thunder storm has just passed over us!

Bowerbird5 · 08/08/2018 04:50

Foxes nit is beyond repair so I will be getting a new one from insurance trouble is we were going to order an intergrated one from kitchen people.

Completed a bag of work from school. Now sorted and in some order😄

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/08/2018 05:20

IVEgotthePOWER · 08/08/2018 06:53

Blush was i funny zoo ?

Sorry to hear you are also suffering from sibling fall outs. Yesterday was BAD here. Dd spent most day winding Ds3 up. Ds1&2 argued over everything. Ds1 snapped at Dd about 50,00000000 times.

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/08/2018 07:13

I can see why you want them back at school in a week if your war torn that badlySadI've hope you get even a small ceasefire today.its usually dd2 rant other two or D's wind up girls together(which is disaster as they are a very very bitchy duo once get going)
Do had text say got tummyache, might come later so I think I'm shopping by myself (with kids instead in a car)in a bit...
I've warned him if not up to dentist he needs to cancel his app at 10(app for 1130) or they will charge him!

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/08/2018 07:14

Oh and I've how's your food budget in hols?feel like mines explodedSad

IVEgotthePOWER · 08/08/2018 07:27

Its not been too bad so far tbh zoo but we had a shop nearby close down so i swooped for bargins!

Ta da

Err nuttin

Cagliostro · 08/08/2018 07:49

Just got up. Last couple of days I've managed to fall asleep again with the baby (she's waking 5-5.30ish) and the extra dozing definitely helps!

DH has taken the shopping in, we have DD's friend arriving in an hour again so at least the Caglets will be entertained. CBA to do anything. So tired!

CassandraLamontaigne · 08/08/2018 09:02

I ticked off everything on my list yesterday and managed some laundry too - I took in clothes that had been on the line for 3 days! I'm in the west of Ireland, the good weather left us a good while ago!
Also did a dark load of clothes and a load of nappies.

To do
Take in laundry on line
One more load - colored clothes

I'm a teacher too! Hi mercury. bower term starts so early for you there. We're off July and August (back late late August) Secondary schools off June July and August. Though I'm on maternity leave anyway, I've been off since the end of June last year bar a couple of weeks working last September before I went on early maternity leave (mild SPD and serious tiredness)
mercury I can't imagine working, expecting DC 4 and taking care of the other three and housework. You're amazing!!!

Scoopofchaff · 08/08/2018 09:37

Ooh Cassandra Envy lucky you being in such a beautiful part of the world. (I have family in Galway!)

Well the farmer baled up about 20 big round bales and they are thankfully protected from the rain. Slept terribly again (the storm bought a plague of flying ants, wasps and flies to join the slugs and rats- ah the joys of country life Grin) and there was still a lot of residual heat in the house . There is a quite a brisk cool wind here this morning though which is beautifully refreshing!

Have to crack on now though to prepare for dhorse visit; a million things to finish on my list: last scrubbing out of water trough, more picking up of old broken tiles and stones, fixing of tying rings, last check of potential poisonous plants, clearing out of stables again. (He'll be living out but just in case) . Need to get to chemist to replenish a few things in horse first aid kit. And to equine supplies shop to buy a bit of equipment.

Meanwhile, entire house is a tip: next lot visitors due on Mon! Need to start getting things in order!

No excuses now it's cooler!

HillsBesideTheSea · 08/08/2018 12:50

ta da
Appointment with nurse
Wait for ds to wake up
deal with exploded nose Hmm

Now to persuade teen to eat and put on clothes so we can leave the house.

foxessocks · 08/08/2018 15:37

Loving the cooler weather today! Still haven't achieved much but we have been out most of today so far.

Ta da
Dishwasher on
Washing on
Washing hung up
Picked up a few groceries
Ordered some school uniform online (anti procrastination!)
Collected all the empty glasses from upstairs

To do
Swish and swipe bathroom
Decluttering
Cook dinner - veggie chilli with tortilla crisps and salad
Hang more washing up
Reload dishwasher
Sweep and mop

We'll see how much I get done. Not got long before I need to start dinner so going to do a power nearly hour.

Cineraria · 08/08/2018 16:07

Also enjoying the cooler weather. Here it seems to be switching between cool and cloudy with a breeze to hot, bright and still - get the hats and factor 50 out quick weather every half an hour or so. That's ok through, especially as the house is staying cooler and DS2 woke only twice overnight for a feed. He had been so desperately thirsty every night as our room is has been so hot recently.

Nice to meet you both Mercury and Goth! I've only been on the thread a week today so haven't met either of you before. Just a week had really made a difference though; everything seems a bit easier to manage already (could be the better night's sleep too!)

Today I have a good long list of things to do but some are maybes or maybe tomorrows.

Finished
Tidy downstairs
Fold laundry

To do
Sweep and mop upstairs
Dust bedrooms
Surface clean bathroom
Sweep downstairs
Clean fridge shelves (mission)
Ring HV to chase up DS2's one year check (anti procrastination)
Sent some cards
Start control journal (babysteps day 8)
More sorting of outgrown baby stuff in spare room

foxessocks · 08/08/2018 16:31

Ta da
Tidyied toys
Dishwasher on again
Decluttered another folder of paperwork - found leaflets from my bounty pack from when dd was born over 4 years ago Hmm. Have put aside anything slightly sentimental to deal with later!

Found a letter from my sil's mum when dd was born, congratulating us on dd and saying how excited sil and my brother were about becoming an aunt and uncle, also says that it gets easier and sleepless nights soon pass etc etc. This made me cry as she died about a year later and never got to meet her own grandchildren SadSad briefly considered showing it to my sil but think it would be distressing for her really as she never got to have the congratulations, advice when her son was born. Needless to say I've popped it back in the envelope and kept it! People don't really write letters anymore so they're special I think.

I need to start dinner now sorry for the long-winded post!! Nobody else to tell about that really.

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/08/2018 19:10

Dentist went ok
Zoolets fed and watered
Dinner-large potato and salmon fishcakes in bed watercress and iceberg lettuce, cucumber and diced red peppers
Pudding-koyo yogurt and blueberries with crushed meringues

Another lesser row with do.he never turned up.i am at point not really caring if we fight any more.not a good sign really but heyhoo!!

Time sit in my arse n watch TV!!

Have good evening fledglings!!

Scoopofchaff · 08/08/2018 19:41

Ta da (taking advantage of civilised temps once more):
went to tack shop, DIY shop, chemist
quick stop at golden arches on way home as DD was nearly fainting with hunger (that's our excuse anyway)
last scrub and rinsing of stone trough
a load more strimming
more picking up of bits of wood, some old bits of metal, old broken roof tiles, bits of sharp lead (anything that might damage a horse's feet basically)
initial brushing out of stable
more strimming
brushing out of stable 2
filling of stone trough with fresh water
hoeing of weeds
flame throwing of weeds in courtyard

2.30 pm - 3.30 pm
one hours worth of Flying indoors sorting rubbish, recycling, general tidying (still more to do)

got the rage with DH and DD who basically put towels, biscuit wrappers, empty loo rolls, magazines, dirty clothes on nearest surface and not in bin, laundry basket, paper recycling or where appropriate Angry. Frankly sick of both of them who expect place to be ship shape when inviting their friends over (and fair enough as that seems to be the role I have somehow been assigned) but they could clear up basic stuff after themselves. To be fair DD worked hard in stables but anything dh did to "help" involved sitting on a mini tractor and driving around like a twonk at speed funnily enough ! Angry

Beer with delightful farmer who came to collect some bales and expertly manoeuvred two of them in to barn with grabber machine
thing (really like him because he emits pure contentment somehow)
more general tidying up of builder's mess (sigh)
made veggie pasta sauce

Wing flaps to all and back to catch up with everyone later!

MercuryRising · 08/08/2018 22:07

Good evening fledglings! It has been a lot cooler here today which has made it so much easier to get things done. I had a couple of friends and their children over this morning so I tidied and hoovered downstairs. Dp questioned why it is only this tidy when we are expecting company ... I think I really need to get into the habit of trying to follow the babysteps and keep on top of the basics as the house feels a lot calmer when it is tidy. I guess I hate the idea of people judging my slatternly ways.

Other ta das
Small pile of ironing
A washload
Kitchen cleaned before bringing ds2 up to bed.
Online food shop ordered

Foxes that sounds like a lovely letter to find and treasure.

Cassandra thank you for the compliment but I honestly feel that often I am neglectong one area of my life (usually the house) while trying to juggle the others. I am adamant to try to rectify this before September. I live in hope and have said the exact same thing so many times, but I guess good enough is good enough.

I am also living in a war zone at the moment with ds1 and dd bickering constantly over anything and everything. You would think they would be more relaxed over the holidays but instead they just seem intent on winding each other up.

SC I sympathise with you constantly picking up after other people. Dd who is 10 and should know better is really bad for just leaving things everywhere. I'm also the only one in my household who can change a toilet roll and put the old one in the bin Hmm

MercuryRising · 08/08/2018 22:10

Sorry for the lack of paragraphs for some reason my phone doesn't post them.

I will have to experiment and try to work out how to make them work.

MercuryRising · 08/08/2018 22:10

Ah mystery solved!!

Cagliostro · 08/08/2018 22:46

Evening all.

Bog all achieved here.

Scoopofchaff · 08/08/2018 23:24

Ta da:

DD 45 mins of "power" tidying up after supper and it's made all the difference so feeling a bit cheerier about state of place tonight!

Very excited here tonight because dhorse is coming over to stay with us for a couple of days tomorrow so alarm clocks are set for 6am!! Everything is ready ... !!

Foxes that is indeed a lovely letter and keepsake from your sil's late mum. Dedinitely one to keep! And congrats re: rest of paper decluttering!

Mercury DD's usual refrain when she sees me cleaning is "who's coming over?" Blush so you are definitely not alone! Grin

Zoo hope tooth not bothering you too much post-dentist!

I'm afraid I have a lot of "maybe tomorrows" and even more "maybe some day" on my lists Cineraria Grin

Hope you can get some decent shut eye tonight CAG!

Content but weary wing flaps to all!
