Fledglings are awesome in August - the Flylady thread

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

This is the August thread so I am reliably informed that it is usually more of a general chat thread. Links won’t be posted by an official ‘thread leader’ every day but I will leave some links in this OP. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Happy flying everyone.

Morning everyone! Excellent start cineraria!

hope you're feeling better this morning

Well, yesterday was a rubbish day all in all, feeling unwell, dc fighting a lot (mainly ds actually), dh grumpy and then a less than relaxing evening trying to sort out grown up stuff like finances.

I'm resolved to make today a better day, so far so good as don't feel ill , have had a coffee in bed and can hear ds stirring now. We have swimming lessons and then meeting a friend for lunch. And from what I hear this is the last really hot day for a while...hope that's true!

HillsBesideTheSea · 07/08/2018 08:00

Going to be honest SC i am impressed you understood it. I switched languages twice so it is written in 2 different languages.

Morning.

Muscle spasms in my back so it is a case of to do: survive work, take ds to hobby craft.

Scoopofchaff · 07/08/2018 08:08

Well I only understood the German Hills , must confess to having had to Google translate the penultimate line Grin. (Danish?? But was expecting Norwegian!). How about you Zoo?

Scoopofchaff · 07/08/2018 08:14

Hope you get through the day pain-free Foxes and Hills!

I'm on the pain killers this morning but happily they seem to be doing the trick! (Waiting to have my op when ob/gyn back from hols and, believe it or not, when hospital finishes moving locations!).

Had better get going! Farmer has just arrived to start baling and DH and DD over with dhorse, so I'm in sole charge!

HillsBesideTheSea · 07/08/2018 08:30

German
Norwegian
German

Danish is fairly similar to Norwegian in a number of respects considering both Denmark and Norway used to be ruled by Sweden. (hence the 3 crowns in the Swedish national logo)

Google translate helped me with the french, i never studied it despite officially having taken it for a year. It was an interesting year but language study took virtually no part in it. HmmGrin

Scoopofchaff · 07/08/2018 08:44

Grin Like all the best language exchange progs Hills !!

We have a Danish colleague who says he can read and understand (generally) Norwegian but not speak it; and a Flemish colleague who insists that Danish is like German but Danish colleague not impressed by that pov! Grin

IVEgotthePOWER · 07/08/2018 08:55

Morning all

Not much flying going on here

Having OH issues again. Nuff said on that.

cag the spot cleaner i use on carpets is Dr Beckmann Carpet Stain Remover. It has a brush and sponge on the top and i buy it in Aldi

Scoopofchaff · 07/08/2018 08:56

Interestingly, if you put "I want to sleep well" in English in Google translate it shows "jeg vil sov godt" exactly the same for Norwegian and Danish and for Swedish it shows "jag vill sova bra!! Every day is a school day and all of that!!

Scoopofchaff · 07/08/2018 08:58

Oh no, that is thoroughly crap about your oh I've. So sorry to hear that.

HillsBesideTheSea · 07/08/2018 09:00

but I agree with the flemish colleague because I get norwegian and german mixed up. However, remnants of the 2nd World War will make that a huge insult. Even if linguistically they are considered Germanic languages.

MercuryRising · 07/08/2018 09:27

Hi all. Can I please rejoin you? I used to fly a few years back when I just had 2 dc. I have since had ds2 and I am due dc4 in November. I am feeling massively under pressure (from myself) to try to get organised before the new baby arrives.

We definitely live in CHAOS and most days I would be mortified if we had unexpected visitors.

I teach 3 days a week and I'm hoping to use the next 4 weeks until we go back to school to get on top of things...I know the system works it is being consistent that I struggle with.

Bowerbird5 · 07/08/2018 09:27

Cineraria super sorting. Picnic sounds lovely.
Foxes the one good thing about getting older😄 Hope you have an easier day today.
Hills hope you feel better soon.
I've. Sorry to hear OH issues again. DH has been ok except not really bothered about a holiday and I desperately need one because of stress and the year I have had with illness as well. DD is here and needs taken to work and when she isn't we have The Cat - hers! She is off to festival for a week then work then long weekend when I had planned to go away with church. DH is saying we might manage a few days next week. Bloody hell I was expecting at least a week but preferably ten days abroad. Be lucky if I get a swing on the gates on Yorkshire Coast! Might look for something today although I would like to crack on while no one here today. DH has gone on course. I could have gone but DD needs to pick up her bag for journey to festival. Aagh! Will enjoy quiet day with me and the cat. And hen.
Summer house man cancelled. Going to have a pale sage green on outside and an off white / cream inside. DD will moan because she likes colours but I think I can decorate it and change colours with season with fabric. Thinking shabby chic or fresh garden fabrics. Might pinch some of her samples. Won't be having electric as too far down the garden but have camping light but think I will want in by then.
Right need to get cracking, I a had lie in because I had a bad nights sleep. DH, dog fighting outside window, nightmare.

Bowerbird5 · 07/08/2018 09:34

Of course you can. Welcome.
Are you Primary or Secondary?
I am HLTA and have RBC from school to sort out about 8 and a box. I would also be embarrassed and I only have one DD that has just returned to live here. She has brought loads of stuff home and I am trying to sort mine. I just can't get motivated as last term was draining. I need the pointy stick!
We've been doing lots of gardening as we are changing it and we had loads of weeds.

IVEgotthePOWER · 07/08/2018 09:50

Mercury I remember you and it does not feel like YEARS ago (i was Afreshstartplease)

IVEgotthePOWER · 07/08/2018 09:51

Welcome back that should have also said!

Scoopofchaff · 07/08/2018 09:54

Fascinating Hills! Especially being (literally!) bang on the divide between Germanic/Romance langs here.

Scoopofchaff · 07/08/2018 10:01

Yay Mercury (SC here) great to have you back!! Flowers Cake Bear. Congrats on your pregnancy and take it steady!

Hope you can arrange the much-deserved holiday you need Bower! Would you consider going by yourself/with friend if dh not amenable? Hope you are not held back by your dd's cat!

CassandraLamontaigne · 07/08/2018 10:03

DM had a nice visit, gone now. The local bf group will be here in an hour.
Tada
Dw on. Kitchen relatively clean and tidy - needs 5 mins
Hoovered sitting room and hall
Accidentally bumped baby's head with Hoover. Twice ConfusedBlush bad bad parent
Gave up on Hoovering
Took crying baby to bed for a cuddle and a feed
Baby now asleep in bed with no sides so can't go far in case he wakes, rolls over and falls out Shock

To do
Finish Hoovering - kitchen and baby's room and rest of hall
Swish and swipe of bathrooms
Replenish loo roll
Tidy bedroom
Tidy kitchen
Lay out food for guests

Think that's it!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 07/08/2018 10:37

Welcome back Mercury Smile

MercuryRising · 07/08/2018 11:21

Thank you for the warm welcome back SC, I'VE and Stressy.

I teach primary KS1 Bower. In September I will be teaching year 1 (my favourite year group) but only for half a term as then I go on maternity leave. I haven't even started to get organised for September yet. I feel overwhelmed enough thinking about everything I need to do at home.

Scoopofchaff · 07/08/2018 12:13

Hope your bf group meeting went well Cassandra ! Fab lists btw!

Wow you have a lot on your plate Mercury (doffs hat in respect)

Farmer has not baled hay yet, he just moved the small rows in to bigger rows this morning ready for baler. He's coming back at 5pm to bale but he's cutting it fine as the wind is getting up and a few clouds are gathering! Still steaming hot though!

Ta da:
tidying
30 mins picking up bricks and tiles
strimming
quick nip to town to nearest supermarket to buy bicarb and scrubbing brush

Just about to prep lunch.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 07/08/2018 13:21

Ta da:-
Laundry on line and more in machine
I packed my clothes for holiday while DDs watched a film. I had started organising my clothes already and downloaded a packing list but I can’t imaging packing my clothes in an hour pre-kids. It would have taken weeks of deliberating Grin. Can’t fully pack as we don’t leave until Monday.

Welcome back mercury !

Washing on

That's it! Been a busy busy day and we've not long been home.

To do
Meal plan for next week
Food shop online
Check calendar
Swish and swipe downstairs loo
Finish daily routine
Decluttering if I get time
Cook dinner - fishcakes and green beans

Bowerbird5 · 07/08/2018 17:15

😭😪
All these people with washing on.😥

Have organised all the washing into loads in bags have four and DH can do his own. He has gone and taken car to exam sort of. If he doesn't pass that is the end of his job😳😱 So hope he passes. Not sure when his present certificate is up but if it is this trip then he will be home for good. He is planning another year because if he can do that we can buy the new cooker as he wont have to pay tax. It will pay for more than half of it. If we do that we can then decide and order cooker this week. Gulp!
Mercury: I work all over the shop but will have some Yr1's for Phonic group. I am going to spend a day in last week.

Ta Das
So sorted some old jigsaws for little boy at church. Noah's Ark and world one. Made them and wiped over.
Tried to find out how hen is getting out. She must be flying over. She waits until I am out of sight. I sat with a mug of tea watching her this morning. Plugged up another possible escape route and we re jogged the fence completely putting tent pegs in to stop and commando crawling escapades but still she gets out.
Wiped cupboards. Thinking about new ones being lighter.
Swept and washed floor. Did about 1/2 hr gardening.
Did about 1/2 hr looking for things for DD she is very upset as somehow during the move she has lost a special tiger headdress, a pair of harem pants and a beautiful one off waistcoat which was expensive. Not sure if she means the one we made from Merino and Shetland.anyway they will be nearly there now. Festival.
Vacuumed most of house. Cleaned kitchen washed up and tidied some. Need to crack on and get more done before DH comes home. Think I would like to go to Austria as I watched TV Escape to...while coffee break, amazing views. DD thinks she might take cat to partners house. I suggest they stay here and look after chicken and tomatoes and other veg otherwise I won't both going and have some days out instead. Did consider going on my own but not much fun. If I had known this was going to happen could maybe have treated sister 1 or baby one.
Not very motivated but need to give self a kick up butt now.

😚 Did watch Four in a bed because two on there we knew. We went to France and stayed in their gite. Mum and daughter and they were lovely. It must have been the only one I hadn't seen. The gite was gorgeous and nothing was too much trouble. Daughter had a lovely singing voice and sang and played guitar in their garden and we sat on balcony and it made a perfect evening.
Right off to whizz around in a one hour frenzy!

300 posts in first week!

foxessocks · 07/08/2018 18:46
