Fledglings are awesome in August - the Flylady thread

Welcome to the August Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

This is the August thread so I am reliably informed that it is usually more of a general chat thread. Links won’t be posted by an official ‘thread leader’ every day but I will leave some links in this OP. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Girls fetid pit of despair-pass

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 06/08/2018 09:09

Oh foxes, how rubbish Sad.

We are having a catch up day today. We had a play date but thankfully friend has cancelled as she also has loads to do so DDs are happy that we will rearrange. Yesterday it was (genuinely) impossible to get basic stuff done in the house so we need a big catch up on laundry and dishes etc. Also the girls have started packing stuff for their holiday so I found some packing lists on the internet in the hope of having some order to this packing! I’ve printed them off this morning. Gymnastics later on plus I need to get milk at some point.

Afternoon all!

Oh no Foxes hope you are ok? Take it very steady!

That's a truly amazing list Zoo!

Lily scent sounds divine Bower!

Good luck with catching up and packing supervision Toostressy!

Waves to CAG and everyone else!

We were woken at crack of sparrows this morning by farmer who looks after our fields. He cut the grass three days ago and it's been lying in the sun drying ever since. Today he had different attachment on his tractor that lifts/flips/aerates the cut grass so that it is left in lovely long rows that stand slightly proud of the ground. Tomorrow will be baling day apparently!

Left him and DH to negotiate about payment/ how many hay bales we retain for dhorse and there seemed to be lots of hand-shaking and gesticulating going on but all was resolved amicably.

Then dh and I capitalized on early start and did some tidying up of stone/broken tiles on drive left by builders. There is loads to do and it is utterly knackering work. I had to stop after only 30 mins. More strimming. Then we baled out filthy water from old stone trough with an old jug and got out the silt from bottom with dustpan. Found drainage hole and ancient bung! Then dh connected three hoses together and we washed whole thing out with clean water. Left it to be dried by the sun. Tomorrow I am going to repeat the process with scrubbing brush and bicarb in preparation for dhorse coming to stay for a bit!

Did more strimming.

Then finally we looked in ancient stables that we had cleaned out thoroughly in the autumn. Unfortunately, they are entirely full of builder's mess and crapola once more, so we need to start all over again... Sad Dd was not amused. Tobe fair to her, she is pulling her weight as far as dhorse is concerned so hopefully she will get stuck in again tomorrow!

In the meantime, DH and DD have gone back to town for the afternoon (DH has meeting) so me and furry are holding the fort. About to take advantage of their absence and tidy up interior which is in a dreadful state! Feel quite tired now though so may need pointy stick later!!

Is it true the weather is going to break on Wed? I really really hope so!

Cheery wing flaps to all!

Scoopofchaff · 06/08/2018 12:20

X post Foxes

So glad you made it - that DD had fun - and that you are ok!

Don't go and over do it this afternoon though (stern look over pince nez).

foxessocks · 06/08/2018 12:51

zoo I missed your epic list! Amazing!

Thanks sc I'll try not to, it's too hot as well so will be doing little bits here and there with plenty of breaks!

Great list zoo! Glad you are feeling a bit better foxes.

Ta da:-
DDs’ clothes mostly packed for holiday and note left on suitcase for extra bits to add. Unfortunately this includes a little bag that would be so handy for DD1 to take which I can’t find anywhere Angry, wonder if we decluttered it Sad. DD2 still has hers so have left that on the list to find with DD1’s stuff.

Laundry caught up and more in progress now
Caught up with dishes

To do:-
Lunch and make packed tea.
Will have to do something with DDs as they enjoyed helping this morning but are now restless.
Debating leaving early for gymnastics as taking them to supermarket which is just a bit out of the way in the hope I can find a bikini / tankini there but not sure if that is madness??! Couldn’t bring myself to order online with all the hassle of returns etc if it doesn’t fit.

Big wing flaps to everyone.

Can't mop as have run out of floor wipes - that's a shame!! (I could mop another way but it seems like a good excuse!)

Hope you find a bikini toostressy

Bowerbird5 · 06/08/2018 14:24

Well when I was off school poorly I should have made decision about kitchen. We still haven't decided whether to go with bespoke or Howdens. I could have had it in during this hols wish I had now because...
Washing machine has died!
I told DH we should buy cheap second hand one that people were getting new kitchen -Gumtree. He thought it would be fixed but parts obsolete. I really want integrated machine as short row of units.
WM, sink, slimline dishwasher, corner. Might not be able to have integrated. Good news is it is covered for new one ( insurance) so some off the final bill but might either need to buy second hand one or wash at sons until new kitchen.DD has just sold one too.

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/08/2018 14:57

stressy good luck with bikini hunt
Foxes no floor wipes is perfect reason not to clean a floor esp in this heat
Bower that's a pain but better it packs up summer than winter...I remember when dd1 tiny mine die(twintub) and was clothes out on line to drip dry in winter was bash them with stick once frozen get worse ice out then bring in to dry!!

2loads wash all dry on airers so been ironed and put away i hog fan whilst ironing btw

To do
Dinner-large mix of salads with cheese and gf crispbread/partake crusty rolls
It's too hot and I cba!!

foxessocks · 06/08/2018 15:02

zoo I thought so ! I'm getting some in the food delivery later so will do it tomorrow definitely (maybe)

Ok the dc are driving me bonkers. Climbing all over me when I'm feeling a bit poorly again. Just trying to have a little rest and I'm used as a climbing frame! Luckily dh will be home soon and has promised dd he'll do some cooking with her. She has been on at me all day as she's been watching a cookery programme. Usually I would love this but just not feeling like it today Sad

Cagliostro · 06/08/2018 15:06

Afternoon all. Cagletini had her longest night ever - normally don't put her down until 10/11 but she fell asleep on the sofa at 7, and then slept till 9.30am with two night feeds. I didn't put her back in bed after the second one but it's definitely the longest she's had sleeping on her own!

However the change in sleep pattern got to me (normally I get a 6-7hr stretch but that's it) and now I feel totally out of sorts, DH and I are really wobbly today, not sure if we are coming down with something. No idea what to do about dinner either as we haven't got a stocked up kitchen yet! We aren't taking the Caglets to Tae Kwon Do either as not well enough.

Grin
TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 06/08/2018 21:21

My languages aren’t good enough to contribute but Grin.

I sort of got a bikini. Steps involved (for anyone interested):-

Go to supermarket having bribed the girls that if they were good and helped me they could chose comics for the plane.

Survey poor selection of swimwear left and regret not doing this earlier in the summer or at an actual clothes shop rather than the more convenient supermarket.

Pull myself together and select the best of the bunch to try on.

One bikini sort of fits but not really. One fits but no matching bikini bottoms. One tankini top is actually ok and would much rather have tankini than bikini. No matching bottoms.

Buy comics and leave for gymnastics.

At gymnastics go online with DD1 as style advisor and order two bikinis which look kind of ok and luckily manage to find the bottoms for the tankini top which is what I wanted. Pay delivery charge.

Take kids back to supermarket after gymnastics to buy the tankini top which was out of stock online. This time bribe for the kids is to choose ice cream to stock up the freezer.

Resolve yet again to become an organised person.

The End.

Hope you and DH feel better soon Cag.

Oh no, just seen about your washer Bower Sad

OP posts:
Scoopofchaff · 06/08/2018 21:41

Oh dear Toostressy that all sounds rather onerous; but glad you sorted something in the end!

Oh sorry CAG missed that you were below par. Hope you and your DH are ok - possibly an understandable post-move reaction - you've both been hard at it for ages now without a break.

Hope you are ok too Foxes!

And that you have resolved kitchen issue Bowerbird. Have you decided on colour of summer house?

I genuinely tried but I achieved very little this pm owing to (a) ovarian cyst pain and (b) the heat. It was so hot this afternoon - the sun was like a grill - that I honestly thought something was going to catch fire. Did do some hand washing in sink and hung it up, tidied one floor, spoke to rellies on phone, tidied kitchen and prepped easy supper for dh and DD return (frozen fish with oven chips and salad) but had to keep lying down in between.

We are now watching Sherlock. G'night all!

Cineraria · 06/08/2018 23:13

It's lovely hearing how everyone's day has gone. Sorry to hear that quite a few of you aren't feeling well though. I hope you'll all feel better tomorrow. Bower I hope you manage to sort something out for your washing soon. I'd be lost without my machine. I appreciate it so much more after a recent holiday we had where there was no washing machine and everything needed to be done by hand.

Today is day six of baby steps so I'm supposed to tackle a hot spot for two minutes. I have one on the table next to my side of the sofa. It has some of the boys paintings on it that I'm planning to turn into cards for various family members. The paintings and other stuff have gone to the dining room where the dresser contains art stuff, there are also some toys, which have gone back in the toy bags but I'm at a bit of a loss to know what to do with a baking tray housing a magnetic alphabet. If it is within reach of the baby, he eats the letters and most other places are out of reach of the toddler, who it trying to learn the sounds for each one. I was planning to do the zone missions this week too as the kitchen looks like it needs it but missed today's as the boys woke up quite grumpy just as I was about to start. I did get the floors done throughout the downstairs and washed all the laundry from this week (apart from nappies and bibs which are done more frequently), so did feel productive.

Over the weekend we sorted lots of no longer required baby stuff out, bagged it up according to whether it was to give away, sell or keep safe until we have finished using something that goes with it. I also listed a few items on eBay, which I have never used to sell before, and already today my TENS machine sold and has been posted off to someone due in a few weeks time. So we gained space and a little money out of that. Hooray!

Other than that, I took the boys to see a Punch and Judy show and have a picnic lunch in a local park and they were really well behaved and enjoyed it a lot, which I had worried about as it clashed with the start of their usual nap time.

Scoopofchaff · 07/08/2018 06:33

Morning all!

Cineraria sounds as though you have got off to a great start with the decluttering; not easy with small people in tow! Star
