Flying high in July (or trying to!) - the FlyLady thread

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 30/06/2018 09:14

A warm (or cooling with our current weather) welcome to the July Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day the thread leader (me this month) posts links and missions from the Flylady site and also some friendly (!) personal comments. This is quite a ‘talky’ thread but we try our hardest not to be cliquey and new members are very welcome! I will do my best to keep track of everybody Smile.

Please note that Flylady is (understandably) keen for people to click on her site so please do have a look around the site and the links. On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

The first day of the month is Sunday. Since it’s a weekend there is no official mission or zone work, unless you want to of course.

*
Here is the daily summary for Sunday (also available on the Flylady website at flight plan which should update automatically each day).

I assume we are going into zone 1 next week which is the entrance area. However this week we have been in the living room. The Flylady website can take a few days to update the zones when the month changes so I will have a good look at it tomorrow and Monday to see where we are.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

Spend 15 mins decluttering, or whatever you can manage, in Zone 5/ zone 1.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 5 is here.

daily focus

Once I figure out July’s habit I will let you know what it is!

Happy flying everyone.

Morning all. Slow start here and it’s not really any cooler today. Knackered. Cagletini did wake up earlier last night. Think she wasn’t warm enough overnight this time as it wasn’t quite so hot and she was only in a nappy the last few nights.

Mum coming up later, really want to try and get some stuff done!

CassandraLamontaigne · 10/07/2018 10:21

zoo glad DS is eating and drinking something. Love the "futility room" Grin

Bower a summer house sounds fabulous

Tada list
Swish and swipe
Stripped bed
Wash on
Duvet airing on line
DH took out bin for bin men but then I had to put the stuff from the bins in the house into the big bin outside. This is a recurring theme. DH thinks putting out the bins means wheeling the big thing out to the footpath Angry

That's it (not even dressed, sitting in PJs)

To do list
Maybe something in the kitchen?
Remake bed
Hang curtains in spare room

Scoopofchaff · 10/07/2018 10:29

Hi all.

Dh went to doc yesterday and is off to cardiologist this afternoon (again). Not very happy as we have already done all these tests twice and they all came back fine - and he is still having attacks - so wanted them to sort of suggest going to the "next level" of tests (whatever they may be) but anyway going to follow advice and do what they say again. Wish I could get across to doc that dh never makes things up or exaggerates, never worries about his health, never complains about it and if he says there is something wrong then there is something wrong ifyswim. But all they do is peer at the tests results and say "you are fine". I know, I know and completely understand we have to depend on the science of the tests and the docs are all really good at their jobs etc etc but it is frustrating. Plus I am not happy about going on hols until this is resolved.

Oh yes and dh's family is here again to "help". Had one hour notice this time!

It is much cooler here today outside but there is so much residual heat in the house that I am not feeling it tbh.

Ta da:
breakfast for all of us
walked furry
wms on
dw on
s&s
put away a load of clean washing and towels
quick flit to shops

That's all so far.

Sorry for lack of personals but wing flaps to all!

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/07/2018 11:05

DO NOT offer sumptuous food SC or you will never get rid
I'm sorry it's all a bit pants for you.its not helpful test ok when you know SOMETHING'S not right...Flowers and icy drink

Cass pinched that term from another fledgling cant remember which one to give them credit.hills/SC will know who it was

Tada
Wiped what can see of dining table
First set bedding n stuffed toy in drier
Second set(dd2) now in along comfort blankie and bashed up mumkey.everytime I look at her poor face darned toy I have to smile

Cagliostro · 10/07/2018 11:31

zoo is that the giraffe you posted a pic of once? Is it a beanie boo? And if so, does it come up ok in the wash - I really want to wash some of the Caglets’ cuddlies once we’ve moved but I’m scared of ruining them. Any tips appreciated!

Managed to get some stuff done this morning, DH has put more stuff in the cupboard ready for taking to the new house/charity later in the week. He put a wash on (including a pillow case as DS thought it would be a good idea to demonstrate what he learned in tae kwon do on himself, cue nosebleed 🙄😂🤦‍♀️). We’ve packed up some more stuff and thrown away a few bits.

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/07/2018 11:48

Nope she has bloody hundreds cag
If you can sponge clean it,do that.otherwise lowest setting( add bit napisan if super scanky) if look bit flat I pop in drier, low setting to fluff them up...and pray..it's trial and error im afraid.some end up like new.others look like I feel-flat and squished...be aware it's virtually impossible to wash a giraffe without a snap neck look after areathankfully lil zoo used drag them around by necks so they were already bit bent as she prefers to snuggle a clean smelling toy that's bit "well loved looking" than a smelly one that's new looking iyswim

Cagliostro · 10/07/2018 11:53

Thanks. Wondering if I could use the hand wash cycle or something.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 10/07/2018 12:32

Ta da:/
Item found in shop and wrong item returned
Laundry in progress
Slowly getting through dishes as dishwasher not working
Replacement car sorted so will be getting hire car. I HATE having a hire car.
5 mins decluttering, will do another 10 later

To do:-
Studying (very low on time for this now but will do half an hour)
Order DD1 school uniform (after school)

Cag, I wash stuff on the delicates cycle or a 15 minute cycle. So far it has been ok but agree with zoo about long neck type parts (!) and also we have had one toy that had a little jingly sound from a bell inside which now doesn’t make the sound anymore.

Must get on. Big wing flaps to all.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 10/07/2018 12:33

Also got petrol.

OP posts:
Stilllivinginazoo · 10/07/2018 13:06

Yeh,15min cycle is safest bet if you have it cag(today's stuffed giraffe is renowned for being sturdy enough to handle a 40oc wash, but it's not "fluffy")
That loads dry and ready be put back on lil zoo bed.ted is sit on bed airing as never come out fully dry!
Dd2 load in dryer.noticed lil zoo had no sock,so got load with lots those in on the go..
Swept kitchen floor
Had lunch
Looked at kitchen and tsk at what needs doing(does that count for anything?!)
Fed cats/medicate tabby
Read D's for a bit as he's laying in his bed so as not have negotiate stairs he bit isolated...sleeping lots, but he must be bit lonely by himself(no downstairs lav and he's not heavy but too long to carry he just hangs there and you trip over his dangling limbs!!)

foxessocks · 10/07/2018 13:51

Could it be panic attacks sc? Sorry I can't remember all the symptoms he had so might be a silly suggestion. I remember my dad having terrible panic attacks years ago when he had a very stressful job and it was so bad my mum did call an ambulance at one point. Thankfully he doesn't have them now as far as I know anyway.

foxessocks · 10/07/2018 13:53

I out cuddly toys in the washing machine too but dd has a doll which plays music when you press her tummy. The doll itself is mostly fabric. Can't put it in the washing machine and have tried sponging clean. It is absolutely disgusting! She took it to nursery school a few times and it came back filthy where they'd dragged it round the garden Confused I want to chuck it away but dd obviously won't agree to that!

foxessocks · 10/07/2018 13:55

Ta da
Dishwasher emptied and loaded
Lunch made for me and dd (ds asleep)
Post office
Library
Took glass and plastic to recycling bank

To do
Swish and swish bathrooms
Finish daily routine
15 minutes decluttering kitchen
Cutlery drawer
Calendar for this week and next
Meal plan for next week
Food shop online for next week

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/07/2018 14:06

I really should start meal planning again....

Cagliostro · 10/07/2018 14:38

My mum has given me a meal planner board freebie thing so will stick that on the fridge for now at the new house.

Just about to go get some stuff, woohoo!

foxessocks · 10/07/2018 14:44

I love meal planning it's my "chore" planning meals and doing the online shop Grin partly because I can sit down and do it!

foxessocks · 10/07/2018 14:45

That should say my favourite "chore"...

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 10/07/2018 14:54

I hate meal planning and wish I could love it more. Any tips foxes Smile?

Did manage some study and at least now have an idea of what needs to be done. Didn’t manage enough laundry but at least I got some done. Also unexpectedly got a few second hand bits of school uniform for DD1 which is great as has saved about £10.

Also didn’t prep tea. Had to go in for an appointment though and so have 15 mins before school pick up... wondering if I can get something for tea now but not sure what I can buy that isn’t a ready meal (had one last night) and would also do for tea for DH and me. I’m thinking pizza actually? As we have a few bits to do with homework etc so trying to cool properly might be tricky.

In fact I am off to the shop now! Catch everyone soon.

OP posts:
Stilllivinginazoo · 10/07/2018 14:55

I normally love meal planning but whilst
A) it's too hot to want to cook
B) D's isn't eating
C) lil zoo on restricted elimination diet
It's boresville!!

I need a boot up the bum to get more creative as I've become a sandwich and salad queen of slayterntastic ness!!

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/07/2018 14:56

WAh in dryer
More on
Off to read to D's for a bit whilst do picks up lil zoo

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/07/2018 14:56

I've lost a bit?should've said pick up lil zoo straight from workConfused

WhoKnowsWhereTheW1neGoes · 10/07/2018 15:15

I hate meal planning more than just about any chore. Two fussy DCs, one fussy DH, lots of evening groups and hobbies make it very difficult indeed.

When I wash cuddlies I put them in one of those net bags for delicates and use a short cycle, filling the machine with other stuff to protect them a bit. Dry in the airing cupboard for a couple of days.

Much nicer weather here today, low 20s, fresh breeze, blue skies (yesterday was hot, humid and overcast). Not much on the tada list yet but there's still time Grin.

CassandraLamontaigne · 10/07/2018 15:25

I also hate meal planning. I'll eat any old rubbish but DH is fussy about having good food. So he generally does the meal planning and cooking. It's just so much responsibility to produce a healthy tasty meal that hasn't been already on the table this week. I can't handle it!

HillsBesideTheSea · 10/07/2018 18:07

IME meal planning is easier with a functioning kitchen.

Work survived - check
Accosted by ds who talked himself into trouble rather than out of it. HmmAngry

I have an extensive to do list which I dont want to do. I am in too minds whether to suck it up buttercup or to just go out. I have the grumps

foxessocks · 10/07/2018 18:39

toostressy well I love cooking and trying new recipes, I cook different things every week so it doesn't get boring. I have a list of red meat recipes (which I include anything that isn't chicken basically) that I like, or want to try or have seen somebody mention somewhere and another list for veggie recipes, fish, chicken etc . Then every week I pick two off the red meat list and five off the other list. Even if I know we're going out one night I still plan seven meals as it helps with budgeting. Then if we don't use one I carry it over and adjust the following week iyswim. I write it all down and then do my food shop straight after ordering everything I need for those meals. I don't stick to days I just decide each day what meal I'll cook from the seven meals depending on use by dates, weather , what mood I'm in, how much time I have etc. I usually have a few simpler meals and a few more complicated then I have options if dh late home or the dc being a nightmare!

That's about it really. I just love the whole process! And now I am hopefully going to get more meal deals from the butcher's so I'll also plan around what they are doing and freeze anything I don't use in one week.

I may well be on my own with this though!!

My dc are fairly good eaters which does help I think. Dd will moan a bit sometimes but generally eats most things. I make the same thing for all of us. If it's a spicy meal I just put the chilli in after taking her portion out or throw some yogurt in at the end for her! Oh and also probably helps that my dh gets home in time to eat with us as he starts his day very very early (around 4 or 5 a lot of the time).
