Hello everyone,
Welcome to the Flylady thread for April, where we follow (sort of) the Flylady system with baby steps, missions, daily focuses (foci?!) and decluttering. But more than that, we are a supportive bunch where we share the trials and tribulations of everyday life. We post our to do and ta da lists and chat a whole lot.
Newbies, lurkers and returners always welcome!
Back tonight with links for tomorrow!

I'm obsessed with storage at the moment bower but I have a feeling dh thinks it's all a bit pointlessGrin maybe he is right who knows. It's making me feel more organised though!

foxessocks · 13/04/2018 12:38

Ta da
Daily routine
Decluttered car

To do
Declutter bag and purse
15 minutes kitchen
Under the sink
Quick hoover downstairs

Dinner going to be beef stir fry quick and easy as I've got work to do later and not sure when dh due home.

Hope everyone is enjoying last few days of Easter hols (if you're all still on Easter hols at the moment) . It's quiet on here atm so hopefully that means you all are!

Afreshcuppateaplease · 13/04/2018 13:31

I am trying to sort dds crap hole of a room out. It is awful. I keep going in for ten and then need half an hour to recover

Cagliostro · 13/04/2018 14:19

I have the house to myself! 😱 The others have all gone for a walk. Cagletini just had another feed and has been mostly awake all day so should be fine. They are dropping the old medicines at the pharmacy. I am going to do my postnatal workout (I know, I know, I can hardly excuse that now since it’s been nearly 6 months!) as I haven’t for a ridiculously long time. There is loads of stuff I could be doing after but I’m going to lie in bed and laze I think, as the first time I was alone I ended up reading DSD’s essay and had no time to myself at all. So this time I am making the most of it! We got a fair bit done this morning anyway and I’ll do the other stuff later hopefully

I am tired

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 13/04/2018 17:17

Happy birthday to your DD2 zoo SmileFlowersCake. Sorry to hear of stressful swimming expedition.

I didn’t come on the thread yesterday as was in the naughty corner and achieved very little (although was productive at work). Am resolved yet again to not faff about on the internet in the evenings and waste time.

I did manage to have a look in our storage cupboard area and annoyingly trofast will not fit very well. It would fit if I put it sideways on rather than straight in front ifswim or something very similar to kallax would fit if I did it straight on. Any ideas anyone? Kallax that fits well or trofast (which I think would be the most useful for what I want to store - toys, craft stuff, stationary and general shit) which fits not so well. Or a combination of the two?

Ta da:-
Had lovely meet up with friends
Quick trip to park although shoes got very muddy and we now have a big pile of muddy shoes needing cleaning Hmm.
Early tea for DDs eaten and in dishwasher - will need snack later
At swimming
Sewed on two swimming badges in record time Star
Laundry on

To do:-
Showers after swimming
Maybe get DD1 to do some of her homework but this will be very mood dependent!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 13/04/2018 17:17

shopping expedition not swimming expedition!

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/04/2018 17:40

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/04/2018 17:41

So lil zoo gets shop bought too.gah!

Callmecordelia · 13/04/2018 18:23

Toostressy I'd go for Kallax that fits well. Annoying small sections of cupboard will get really irritating or maybe that's just me.

I can't do links from the app anymore, but have a search for Kallax drawer inserts which might give you the functionality you need.

We have algot inside our wardrobe and I really rate it. Would that fit? The drawers are great.

Afreshcuppateaplease · 13/04/2018 18:24

Wr have some kallax drawers. They are good and easy to fit. They also do shelves and a hangy basket thing

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 13/04/2018 18:36

Thanks Callme and Afresh. Should have been more specific. What actually fits is exet which is similar but not quite as good as Kallax. Kallax was a bit too wide. Will check out the inserts etc for that. Not looked at algot so will check that out.

Yes, the bits of cupboard will annoy I think if trofast fits badly.

I’m thinking of going into ikea one day again childfree and seeing what the store staff say / if they can advise something to fit as it is an awkward space.

Afreshcuppateaplease · 13/04/2018 18:41

stressy do you have a link to exet?

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 13/04/2018 19:05

Oops sorry, it’s eket. here. It’s the floor storage stuff I was looking at.

Cagliostro · 13/04/2018 19:05

Cagletini got all the way across the room today. On her back 😂 she does this weird backwards caterpillar thing

I agree about small fiddly bits of cupboard. I want something really simple. Trying to think about how to make things as easy as possible once we have moved, to really really think about exactly what we need to store

Bower nope pain and stress is not related. Stress is from a house full of an inch of plaster dust fucking everywhere that no matter how much you clean is still bloody there an hour later.... Kitchen has been cleaned down twice a day since Tuesday. Fed up of it. Oh and I forgot a significant birthday and needed to get sorted with a less than 12hr turnabout
Pain was because I cba to cook and ate something that triggers it because just too tired to care. Still in pain from it today so had ice cream for tea

ta da
3 loads of washing
1 load of hand washing
pick up prescriptions and get meds
pick up some socks to fit the apparently grown more since i last saw him ds
Spoke to ex about ds' return arrangements
Speak to the Birthday Girl
Pick up birthday present
mop dining room floor 3 times
clean down everything that was still under inches of dust on the floor
set up some temporary tables to aid with the clean down of the kitchen
Sort out the sugar soap for the final clean down now we have probably about 90% of the dust out of the air now
Sort out all the bits for the tip
Put now clean and dry wool jumpers into zip locks and into the freezer for 3 weeks
Get mother out for a drive in the hills next time I drive!

to do
clean the benches off
make up sugar soap
clean kitchen from ceiling and down
empty 3 cupboards
clean down the cupboards
put clean dishes from dishwasher away in the clean cupboards
Put the contents from cupboards into the dw
Couple more loads of washing.
Hand wash some wool socks
clean out the slow cooker
Mop the kitchen floor 3 times
hoover out the cooker hob
clean down the cooker hob
clean down the cooker

And then at that point i am going to have a hot shower and do some knitting. But in the meantime I had better get moving....

Callmecordelia · 13/04/2018 19:18

Toostressy I'm itching to say post us a diagram with measurements. I love an ikea problem.

Looking at the eket slim dimensions made me wonder if Billy and Tjena boxes would be an option?

I am distracting myself from the lack of flying. DS is ill with a bad cold and temp. Not much has been done recently.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 13/04/2018 19:24

Oooh other options Grin. Ok...

Not good enough with tech for a diagram but basically cupboard dimensions are roughly:

0.7m wide
2m high at highest but 1m high for most of it at shortest (as it slopes down)
1.25m deep

So it’s quite deep but not very high. Also then there is a weird bit at the front which isn’t much taller (normal cupboard bit. So basically you walk in then it slopes down and you have to duck as it is sort of an under stairs cupboard.

Not sure if that makes sense, don’t want to post pic as possibly outing!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 13/04/2018 19:25

I was thinking of the eket 70cm across (as cupboard is actually more like 74cm wide) and either 2 or 3 levels (‘boxes’) of that.

Callmecordelia · 13/04/2018 20:41

Toostressy, thanks for the diversion. I've mostly been sitting in with DS this evening. I enjoyed this.

Tricky space! My favourite solution would be two Alex units (36x48 116 high). They have lots of drawers. www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/storage-furniture/drawer-units-storage-cabinets/alex-drawer-unit-with-9-drawers-white-art-50192822/

It is expensive though (£95 each). However, the Alex units should be sturdy - we had them in an office I once worked in - and they use most of the space.

Cheaper options -

  1. Kullen 40x70 112cm high. Chest of five drawers. £45.
    www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/storage-furniture/chest-of-drawers/kullen-chest-of-5-drawers-white-art-20393662/ Boxes on top?

  2. 2x Omar units placed short end on. www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/kitchen-products/kitchen-shelves/omar-shelving-unit-galvanised-art-00069768/
    £25 each

Other thoughts - is there a lip at the door frame? If not have you thought about wheeled storage? You could have three of these in there -
www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/storage-furniture/storage-systems/algot-frame-4-boxes-top-shelf-white-spr-29276178/

Alternatively you could have storage at the back and then a raskog craft cart like this - www.funwithmama.com/organize-kids-art-supplies-with-an-art-cart/

I think I understood your measurements - let me know if I didn't. I'll be here all night. Grin

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 13/04/2018 20:47

So sorry I think I explained the measurements wrong Blush. The height is 1metre for the majority of the cupboard (he ceiling is pretty straight then slants at the end) so the first two options won’t fit. Will have a look at the other options as soon as I have gone to fish and chip shop Grin as kids finally asleep and DH is back.

Really appreciate all advice Smile

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 13/04/2018 20:54

Couldn’t resist a quick look Smile. No lip so I like the idea of those algot units and actually they could be wheeled out then for playing with things. Might even be able to sneak some storage in behind them at the back of the space.

Callmecordelia · 13/04/2018 21:03

The Alex was ridiculously expensive anyway. I think I didn't quite get how short it was, even though you said it was mostly a metre high, sorry. I'd definitely do wheeled storage in that case if you can, you'll be on your hands and knees all the time.

Here's another option though. Smile

www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/storage-furniture/shelving-units-systems/biträde-shelving-unit-white-art-10270421/ 72x39, 72cm high

Callmecordelia · 13/04/2018 21:06

X post! We love our Algot drawers - we have the metre high frame with mesh baskets. The mesh is very fine and the runners are excellent. One of the best things we've got in ikea, it's excellent value for what it is.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 13/04/2018 21:25

Awesome back wriggling by Cagletini today and a very impressive ta da list Hills!
