Hi, I think I'd like to join in but not sure how to where to start?! My house is fairly decluttered right now as I'm about to have my second baby and have been in full on nesting mode for about a month! I'd really like to keep on top of it now and after I've had the baby (although I know this may be hard!) . Anyway I've read a bit of fly last before and like the concept . So do I just follow the links on here and then post to say what I've managed and hope that it keeps me motivated? I'm going to have a proper look at the links tomorrow (unless I go into labour of course...which I hope I do as I'm 4 days overdue and very ready for this baby!)

PS sorry for all the typos there.

Hi, foxes - welcome aboard. Yes, that's pretty much it. The general idea is to start with the first baby step (shining your sink) and then build up from there. There's some lots of stuff that a lot of us take with a pinch of salt, and don't worry about falling behind, because everything comes round again.

Waves to Carpe - nice to see you.

Re swimming - DS2 has finally moved out of stage 1 after nearly 2 years!! Hoping that he'll make faster progress now... Was getting very frustrating for everyone. I get fed up with the concentration on technique, because I'm not fussed about getting them to competition level or anything like that - I just want them to not drown, and to be able to have fun in the water.

Everyone fully back into termtime routines tomorrow, and need to start seriously planning DS2's birthday party, for the weekend.

Night all!

Toffeewhirl · 04/09/2016 23:51

Sounds like swimming can go on for years then . I think we could all do with a break from the relentless weekly lesson, but I'm worried that DS will simply forget everything he's learned so far and it'll all be wasted.

Thanks for the links, Grey. I will have a look at the 'back to school' link.

Spent the afternoon baking and now have two boxes of biscuits to take into work tomorrow, plus plenty left over for us at home. DS2 enjoyed making his own biscuits alongside me too.

Washing and ironing mostly done. Have left a small pile for DH to do this week.

Dinners cooked. Washing up done.

Off to bed now. Night.

I've done my own version of the bleugh, and 15 mins in the kitchen. It looks noticeably better already :)

We ditched swimming lessons and take the kids ourselves now instead (got a cheap family membership at a local pool). They're resistant to practising actual strokes but enjoy going under water, diving in and playing in the pool, and I figure if they can stay afloat confidently that's enough for now. Saving us a fortune.

Good morning class, good to see everyone is beavering away.

Welcome to foxes - great that you have decluttered your home already, Just need to declutter your womb now?! Wink

Any goodies left over for the naughty corner Toffee?

Blue I think what you said about DCs just having fun and being safe in the water is what is most important. I couldn't care less about DC being taught the merits of butterfly stroke as opposed to front crawl or doggy paddle!

Excellent Biscuit, its all about small steps and gradual progress.

Busy morning for you Still

Its been quiet here this morning and I took advantage of it to
a) watch an episode of GoT
b) do some uni reading

Once DH got up we went into town to

  • take glass and old computer stuff to the tip
  • collected bike from service shop

Today is mostly going to be a reading day for me, catch you all later

Afternoon, Gawd today has run away from me, gone 3 already Shock DH didn't want to do the food shop yesterday so i had to do it myself this morning. We were literally running out of food. He went to work with a very light lunchbox this morning. I did say so...

We take ds swimming ourselves. Normally once a week at least. He loves it. He's just about able to swim doggie paddle by himself without being supported. Rubber bands obviously. He jumps in and out the pool like, like something that jumps in and out a lot (Can't think of a fitting innuendo)

Zoo I've gone since Saturday without putting bleach down them. I'm allowed to use my usual wipes for the outsides like the seats and flush handles but nothing for the bowl. However I am stubborn minx but on the otherhand I do like a clean loo and two weeks is a long time isn't it?! You'll have to give me a supporting hand Zoo. However I notice on your ta das you've bleached your lav today Envy

Ta das

made breakfast
washed dishes
made beds
went sainsburys and done weekly shop
made lunch
emptied kitchen bin
emptied lounge bin
hoovered all floors (thats my bleugh for today) Smile

Need to tidy ds room which I will do whilst he has his tea. He literally pulls all his toys out wrecks the places. It does my swede in. Also got the laundry pile needing sorting but i'll do that whilst watching tv this evening. Looking forward to Eastenders this evening. EE has got good again of late Smile

Well, I had a good start today but have totally messed up by forgetting I've got a meeting to go to tonight. Which is when I was planning to iron all the school uniform for tomorrow (we're out for the afternoon now).

Anyway, I decided that my new term resolution would be all downstairs floors clear every night, as we are prone to shoes and other random clutter getting left out. So this morning, all floors were clear and I ran the vac round/mopped floors first thing. Menu planned, food shopped and put away. Now with the DCs at a trampoline park.

Celeste - I use Ecover squirty stuff in our toilet bowl, Method spray on a bit of loo roll for the outside bits. I hate the smell of bleach and use it as little as possible, a bottle lasts maybe a year. There are some jobs where nothing else will do though.

Ive got a lot done today and am finally managing to get things sorted.
I've still got quite a bit to do before I can manage routines.

I've managed to clear my dining table and would love to have something nice in the centre. Some big candles or autumny thing. Any ideas?

Back at it today as I got dragged down the MH rabbit hole with friend for the weekend. Total mess of disordered thinking and flight response, but then her cat got eaten by a coyote so there was real drama to be dealt with. Today is a bank hol here and dh has agreed to his dining room jobs I have told him that my plan is for the dining room to be beeyootiful by the end of the day.

To do:
Vacuum
Dear Lord, vacuum
Put mirror on wall
Sort pictures for wall/ basement
Put out dining room hotspots (three!)
Ironing
More ironing

Any ideas for a shelf unit or rack that I could put in a shower stall to turn it into a cupboard? (I know that sounds kinda weird. A previous owner installed a shower in our powder room on the main floor - we have three other full bathrooms in the house and in two years no one has ever used it). When we had the main floor renovated I wanted to remove it and incorporate the space into the hall cupboard but it was too expensive. Still regret it). It strikes me that it might solve the hall/ entryway issue, where we have four lots of school bags, dance bags, hobby bags, swimming bags, dh's work bag, and a million pairs of shoes that I am constantly shouting at people to move. So maybe a shoe rack bottom with shelves above? Hmmmm.

Passion, I will let you know what I find for my dining table - I have a couple of autumnal runners somewhere, but a nice glass bowl too. Hmm. Am always a sucker for candles though. Decisions decisions!

Wow everybody has been very productive today!

Dd and Ds1 went back to school today and I have really enjoyed the peace and the house staying tidy for more than 5 minutes. Although I have to admit by lunchtime I was missing them and wondering how they were getting on.

Ta da
Beds made
Dc up, dressed, fed, eldest two taken to school without any drama (long may it last)
Washing up done, dried up.
Laundry folded and put away.
Ds2 taken to playgroup
Parcel collected
Washload dried and put away
Small pile of ironing done
Tired but happy dc collected from school Smile
Living room tidied and dusted
Downstairs hoovered
Bins put out

Ds2 has been asleep since 5pm...I'm not sure if that is him for the night or if we will be up partying in the early hours so I'm off for an early bath just incase.

ponti - er, cat got eaten by a coyote ? Shock Sad

biscuit - that sounds like a great solution (swimming), except that I know that I'd let it slide and then we wouldn't go swimming at all.

Colleagues loved my biscuits today, which was gratifying. Came home to find that DH had done housework Smile.

Whoknows Good plan with your new term resolution. A clear living room before bedtime is one of my daily to do's. A clear kitchen sink is another. My best friend swears by that Ecover loo cleaner. I've read the bottle before whilst sat on her loo and the bottle mentions nothing about killing germs.

Life I usually just put fake flowers in vase as the centre piece when the table is not being used. i'm sure you can find some nice candles at Wilkos.

Pont Where do you live?

Mercury I guess its amazing what you can do when the kids go back to school. Impressive ta das.

Zoo Lucky zoolets coming home from school to shepherd pie Smile

Toffee With these home made choc chip cookies you really are spoiling us.

God, sorry - I just realized I posted the cat thing on a kitty lover thread - I am so sorry!!!!! BlushBlush cover their wee eyes - no kitty should see that!
Celeste - Canadian Rockies - we have bears, cougars, all sorts of elk/ deer stuff, and um the afore mentioned enemy of cats - coyotes. We see a lot pass the end of the garden but there isn't usually quite such interaction. Sorry - it was just a vent about the messy weekend and I didn't mean to be quite so blunt. Blush

Pont the lifeguarding is a really good part-time job for Uni - one of my relatives did well out of it.

DD is back at school and enjoyed her day more than she thought she would and just like she does every flipping year but at least she'll be more relaxed tomorrow.

Welcome to the newbies, lovely to have you with us. I am all fired up about sorting out the house. Having said that, I was looking for something in the loft over the weekend and found a large travel bag full of my shoes that have been missing since we moved in here probably for years Blush Still plenty to work on!

Grin at Pont - s'all right, the kitten can't read!

I have had a very CBA day, enjoying the back-to-school peace at first, but then got the rage after an annoying letter from student loans, followed by guilt. None of which was conducive to housework! Hey ho.

Hi, yes thanks it is making sense! Have done Flylady before, the problem is sticking to it! Got out new calendar (have an organised mum one to start new school year) so feel much more organised now :) . Have done a mini before bed routine but have busy long day tomorrow and can't bring myself to start much later. Did manage to sort a load of paper clutter today though.
