Grey, you are a genius! Why didn't I think of using 15 minute chunks for schoolwork as well as cleaning?! I know once I get back in it will be fine. I'm just dealing with a short outbreak of imposter syndrome!!
Will post lists later - ending up having overwrought evening trying to support drunk, emotional and mentally distressed friend, so am chillaxing with tea this morning for a bit to decompress. Wasn't helped that my 'no alarm morning' after late grim night was interrupted by an intermittent car alarm. Grr.
Kitties kitties everywhere! I came back and the thread is full of mad cat ladies!! How wonderful! And the sun is shining here. Yay!

celeste83 · 03/09/2016 20:05

Yes Celeste means heavingly. Not sure i can go by shining star however. I'm certainly not a saint but thanks for the suggestion Smile

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 04/09/2016 09:39

Hi all, can I join in please? Have used Flylady fairly successfully in the days before children when I had oceans of free time. Now with a 3 and a 5 year old I need a more organised house and life and feel I need to try again. September always a good month to start new things!

Toffeewhirl · 04/09/2016 09:54

Still - several of my colleagues are vegans (I'm baking for work).

CarpeJugulum · 04/09/2016 09:58

Hello all! Back again, and hopefully going to stick with it this time.

I'll read the thread properly later, but wanted to mark my place to ensure I start doing things!

Having moved and had a year off, I started working again last week - with a huge back story, but at least employed until December! I will need FlyLady again to properly organise my house - although I suspect I'll need to Kondo stuff too (if that's not a rude word here!)

Back in a bit!

Toffeewhirl · 04/09/2016 12:22

Congrats at being back at work, Carpe.

Just back from DS2's swimming lesson. Am wondering how much longer we need to stick with it. None of us enjoys it, including DS2, but it has taught him how to swim and to go underwater quite happily. He still hasn't mastered all the strokes and can't dive yet, though. When did you all stop forking out on the weekly lessons?

Just grabbing some lunch and a quick MN moment then starting the big bake off. DS2 has offered to help. Uh oh.

celeste83 · 04/09/2016 12:41

Someone started a mn thread the other day about how great cats are with lots of photos www.mumsnet.com/Talk/the_litter_tray/2723664-I-really-fucking-love-cats?pg=1 I reckon they pinched the idea from this thread Hmm

Toffeewhirl · 04/09/2016 12:58

Thanks, celeste. I have taken the opportunity to share a couple of pics.

celeste83 · 04/09/2016 13:11

I was quite amused when i saw the thread title seeing as we've been talking about them on here. I think you'll be right at home on that thread Toffee

Ta da

fed ds
washed dishes
stripped beds
put bedding in the wash
fresh bedding on beds
taken bedding out of washing machine and put on the line to dry
put another washing load on

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 04/09/2016 13:20

Toffee - swimming lesson angst here too. I stopped last year with DS1 when his funding for 1:1 under a SNs scheme was withdrawn, he can manage all the strokes after a fashion and manage quite a few lengths of front crawl/backstroke. DH has taught him to dive.

Having angst with DD now, she is blowing hot and cold on her lessons, sometimes super keen, sometimes not, so I decided to change her to a different swimming school and enrolled her with her agreement to start next week. Now she's kicking off and wants to stay with her old ones which she was moaning about before the holidays. She's ASA level 6/7 and I'd be happy for her to stop in terms of competence, but she doesn't do much other exercise and I can see a big dropoff in fitness if she stops.

pontificationcentral · 04/09/2016 16:41

i have mixed feelings about swimming - dd1(16) has gone all the way through and lifeguards at the pool - she was TERRIBlE to start with and only really started to get it at 7/8 after four years of beginner lessons. Four years. Once she got it, she flew - and so for the last two years we have encouraged her to get her life guarding and first aid, as it is MUCH better paid than retail/ waitressing as a part time job. She is half way through her instructor training so she can teach as well.
Ds1(14) just finished his Bronze Cross/ Medallion, so we just need to get him standard first aid, and once he turns 15 he can apply to be a slide attendant at the pool as well.
Dd2(12). . Bless her sweet heart, it's something of a trial to be honest. In the last couple of years we have seen movement towards swimming, and she can probably do 10 metres. We have had her in group lessons, private lessons, tried ourselves... I have just signed her up for another batch of private lessons starting in October. Wish us luck that she actually cracks it this time. I just want her to swim well enough to be safe. She's never going to be a lifeguard, never going to compete, but I want her to be safe.
Who knows, how did your get your funding?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 04/09/2016 18:10

It's a scheme run by our county council which encompasses short breaks/respite, buddy schemes for certain activities, SN specific activities etc. Of course funding has been slashed in recent years, you can still get the swimming but the eligibility is tighter now (must be unable to swim 50m) and DS could so he had to stop.

Greymalkin · 04/09/2016 18:13

Good afternoon all, apologies for my tardiness, nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with litres of wine consumed last night our internet connection is extremely intermittent at the moment....

For the sake of the newbies, here are the link for today, kind of pointless now I know, sorry.

Chocolate Cake Biscuit Chocolate Cake Biscuit

Links for Sunday 4th September:

Baby step number four is a ridiculous one about putting up post it notes around your house to remind you to do stuff I don't think there is a single Fledgling who does this step! Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the general opinion is that they clutter the place up and make it look messy.

If you do zone work on the weekends, this is the last day in Zone 1: The entrance, front porch and dining room Spend 15 minutes decluttering here. If you have finished decluttering here is the detailed cleaning list

There are no missions on the weekends.

Our habit of the month is establishing a Before Bed Routine This is actually a really good habit to develop, as many of us can vouch for.

The focus for Sundays is to Renew your spirit Take some time to do something restorative, that you really enjoy for yourself - watch a favourite film, read a book, soak in the bath, go for a walk etc.

And a little bonus feature for this month: FlyLady's back to school tips

I will be back shortly with the links for tomorrow...

Greymalkin · 04/09/2016 18:36

Welcome back Carpe, great to see you. This is obviously a silly question, but I'm guessing you are a TP fan? I have been decluttering in preparation for moving house and I found a Discworld arty poster that TP signed for me at a DW convention I went to about 20 years ago. He was a lovely man to meet and chat to.

Welcome also to TooStressy - as you will have noticed, whoever is leading the thread each month posts daily links and pointers to guide you through. Its a great system and we are a welcoming chatty lot, jump right in.

Toffee and WhoKnows sorry swimming stuff is giving you grief. We have taken DS to splash park type places, but have never tried any kind of formal lessons and he is almost 4. I'm going to have to bite the bullet soon, but I'm dreading it.

Pont thats awesome about your older DCs having those kinds of jobs, all kinds of opportunities with those skills.

Celeste are you looking for a star/astronomy themed name change? I'm sure we could look for inspiration in the constellations....

LiveLife - how is that jet lag sorting itself out? And where did you go to get it?!

Still - very sensible doing the journey practice, your DD must be feeling quite grown up.

< Wing flaps to SC Blue Mercury Einstein Dogs Honu Feetheart Ellie Cotswold Cag > and others I'm sorry I've forgotten.

We had a lovely afternoon and evening yesterday with family and friends all coming here for a wine tasting evening run by an independent company. We put on a buffet afterwards and my BIL and his wife stayed over which was lovely.

TaDas:
Dishwasher load and unload x2
Hand washed up all glasses and baking trays
Wiped down dining table and all kitchen surfaces
Hoovered dining room and landing
Hoovered dining room chairs
Made beds x3
One load of laundry done and hung up to dry
Second laundry load on

Decluttering
Removed the innards of an old laptop so it can safely go to the tip tomorrow
Brought down my old PC hard drive from the loft so I can disembowel it tonight so it too can go to the tip

celeste83 · 04/09/2016 18:57

Haha i'm certainly not looking for a astronomy influenced MN name in particular. Looking for something witty or something that sums me up Hmm

DontStopMovinToTheSClubBeat · 04/09/2016 19:21

Hi please can I join you, I've followed fly lady on and off for about 5 years, but have let it slide while on maternity leave. I've just started back at work (initially part time) so I feel like I need to get organised so I can enjoy the weekends fully with DH and DS Smile

Greymalkin · 04/09/2016 20:52
