to ask what household crap brings you joy?

In the vein of KonMari and inspired by the £200 bin. I feel the need to know what else I'm missing out finding joy from otherwise boring yet necessary household crap

I don't have the iron station yet but think it would make my heart sing compared to tripping over how my ironing board iron and laundry is currently stored

Use lemon oil instead. Small bottle essential oil.

Catastrophica · 02/04/2016 14:30

My husband has a cordless dyson and he clearly loves it. He vacuums the stairs every single weekend (as opposed to never) but that's usually it, he always misses under the sofa and tv.

Roussette · 02/04/2016 14:38

This baby. Honestly it's transformed my life! I have black granite and I was sick to death of cleaning the inevitable residue of limescale from the draining ridges in it from using an ordinary sink drainer. This beauty goes on top of the granite and water just drips off into the sink. Voila!

Talking of limescale.... my proper water softener is a delight. No more cleaning basically! I live in a very hard water area and was honestly cleaning kettles, taps and shower heads weekly. Now I have proper soft water and do it about once every two years!

Londonrach please can you post a link to the sink thing?

DisposableName · 02/04/2016 14:45

cosytoast took me a minute to realise what you meant...but leaving the bin liner attached to the roll, with the roll sitting underneath in the bin bucket thingy is GENIUS! It would just roll out a new one immediately! I think I love you.

And candykane WHY haven't I pinned photos of all of my clothes before?! Brilliant idea.

Personally I love newly decorated rooms...we've recently moved house so doing a lot of decorating. Sometimes I go and hang out in the spare bedroom for a bit just to look at the beautifully painted wooden window frames Blush

Also have a disproportionate level of lust for my magic corner kitchen cupboard that has a wire rack thing that opens up as you pull the door - means everything gets pulled effortlessly to the doorway and you don't have to be a yoga master to reach the cake tins at the back.

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/04/2016 15:03

You can use a window vacuum for shower screens too.

blueteapot · 02/04/2016 15:11

Loving this thread! Definitely middle aged lady catnip - and Im also off for a look round the lakeland website as I had forgotten about it so I blame you all any money spent!

cosytoaster · 02/04/2016 15:20

Disposable Just make sure you tie the used bin bag up before taking it out as it cam be a little tricky detaching it from the next one.

JessieMcJessie · 02/04/2016 15:21

Thanks Apple about the Dyson cordless charge. We do think that was what the cleaner was doing and have explained not to (as it lasts plenty when I use it). However I am afraid that the blunt "please replace this" about a brand new 350 quid Hoover really got up my nose.

We have the Absolute as I have a bad dust mite allergy and it has an extra filter to avoid allergens being recirculated.

BarbaraofSeville · 02/04/2016 15:29

Lol at middle aged lady catnip. It reminds me of the episode of Modern Family where Claire was stuck at an airport and between managing her family and working, she kept clicking on a 'porn' tab on her laptop, which linked to loads of beautiful storage solutions Grin.

I'll throw in my kitchen island and wall of tall cupboards, which means that there are no wall units above any of the worktops.

Clarabumps · 02/04/2016 15:57

I'd like to know more about the inflatable hot tub too.

notagiraffe · 02/04/2016 16:01

The very un-eco way to get limescale off a shower screen is to spray it all over with Limelite (bright green bottle) foam. Leave for five mins then very gently scrub with one of those net scrunchy body rub things. Rinse and then dry with a tea towel. Sparkles with almost no effort.

I now have covet pangs for all sorts of things on this thread especially Rousette's drainer (also dark granite in hard water area and sick of big white unshift able limescale stains.)

notagiraffe · 02/04/2016 16:01

Oh and inflatable hot tub? Where from??? I want one!!!!

2rebecca · 02/04/2016 16:13

shoe storers. Have 6 of them under beds. The handles are flimsy so you have to watch when you pull them out but they're cheap and functional and my shoes were in a jumble under the bed before.
Also love my Panasonic breadmaker but that definitely isn't household "crap"

Roussette · 02/04/2016 16:14

notagiraffe it's Joseph Joseph and sold by Lakeland and John Lewis. I love it! And I put it in the dishwasher too. No more scrubbing of limescale! If you are a stacker of plates (I'm not) you can put another dish drainer on it that will take plates which is what my friend does

Roussette talk to me about your water softener please. I live in a state of constant limescale marks and it drives me mad.
I have a love for glass jars in my kitchen cupboard. It looks so much neater than an array of packets.

Youremywifenow · 02/04/2016 16:47

I very much enjoy sorting my washing into this and emptying it again:

www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-water-hyacinth-double-laundry-hamper/p1467234

although I have 6 categories of regular wash so I may need to buy another one and 2 singles to optimise the laundry sorting experience.
My new house has a utility room so I now have room for a tumble dryer. It brings me great joy. I even enjoy emptying the fluff catching tray

I have a 15 cm sliding cupboard on each side of the cooker, one for storing baking trays and pan lids upright and the other for chopping boards.

Rumble of course! Essentials for travel go in a small handbag- one you'll use when you're on holiday- things such as wallet, earphones, phone, passport and tickets. Then you have a medium sized bag (think beach bag) that you put other things in that you'll want on the flight so iPad, books, magazines, snacks etc. Then you have your small wheeled suitcase (cabin sized) with emergency hand luggage in such as chargers, 1 set of underwear, bikini etc (in case big luggage gets lost). Then. While checking in and shopping wear your handbag and have beach bag in little wheeled bag. This makes in easy to drop stuff straight into the case when you buy it- duty free, bottles of water etc. When you get to the gate rearrange so everything you'll want for the flight is in the beachbag and as soon as you get to your seat grab your beach bag out and put on chair and sling your case in the overhead storage. Then generally there's no need to have to get to your case mid flight! It's more efficient than it sounds...!

I love my brightly coloured tubs in the garden. I also love my ikea picture ledges, I can add and remove pictures so easily. I am in my twenties (just) and I love this thread.

I have sadly realised that not much else I my house brings me joy. Confused

this is my inflatable hot tub - it have fairy lights all round it and colour changing ducks in it Grin it's stored in the shed in winter

I love it

littleblackdress26 · 02/04/2016 17:26

I love this thread and i am also in my twenties Blush . I have never understood the appeal of lakeland but I shall be making a trip asap it sounds a bit like ikea?

AppleSetsSail · 02/04/2016 17:44

OK all you 20-somethings; it's Saturday night. Put on your disco clothes and go out.

AppleSetsSail · 02/04/2016 17:44

I am really curious about the 3 bag airtravel system as well.

madcapcat · 02/04/2016 17:48

This! No more melted bags in the compost caddy, or pools of cold tea in the bin. Made by Susan Frankel of Caractacus pots on Etsy and I bloody love it.

I still miss the walk-in cupboard in my last flat _ I fitted it out with metal shelves from IKEA and kept all my baking trays / too large saucepans / supplies of marmalade and chutney etc in there
