to ask what household crap brings you joy?

In the vein of KonMari and inspired by the £200 bin. I feel the need to know what else I'm missing out finding joy from otherwise boring yet necessary household crap

I don't have the iron station yet but think it would make my heart sing compared to tripping over how my ironing board iron and laundry is currently stored

I don't use any washing up bowl at all due to dishwasher - but it looks lovely

Don't you need a bowl for wiping down all the surfaces in the kitchen & washing pots/pans?

I would love the ironing station, particularly since I just ironed for England (as I watched Grand Designs, naturally). This will definitely feature in our next house.

I love my new Dyson cordless vacuum. It has made pet ownership relatively painless in the housekeeping department.

MintyBojingles · 02/04/2016 10:28

I want a cordless dyson. My mum has one and it's awesome Envy

blankmind · 02/04/2016 10:29

JessieMcJessie Are you sure your cleaner didn't accidentally have your cordless Dyson set to high power? AIUI from a demo on QVC, it will only last 6 or 7 minutes on high then needs recharging, but has a good 20 mins on normal setting.

Mermaid36 · 02/04/2016 10:30

We changed a horrid old downstairs toilet tacked on the end of the kitchen to a cold store/pantry type space, and I love it!
Stainless steel ikea shelves, loads of room for big pans/equipment etc that doesn't fit in cupboards properly, and I can bulk buy stuff (tins/cleaning supplies etc) and store them Grin

2legit2knit · 02/04/2016 10:31

Cordless Dyson, I love it! I'm even a bit jealous when DH gets in there first Shock
I used to avoid hoovering for as long as possible, Henry is the worst.

AppleSetsSail · 02/04/2016 10:36

Jessie the default for the cordless dyson is 'high' which will last for only 4 min. It's the round button on the back handle. Have you tried switching it off?

I very rarely run out of power while doing my normal tidying jobs. I think my cleaner uses the normal corded Dyson for the whole house but I can easily maintain with the cordless.

No Apple - all my pots and pans go in the dishwasher, I got rid of ones which didn't as I never wanted to use them

And I just wet an eco cloth for surfaces and use the sink itself - my kitchen is small so within easy reach of each surface

I had a perfectly fine working fridge and freezer.... I splurge on an American style one just because I wanted a water dispenser Blush (Which is totally unnecessary as I know how to use a tap) Grin

MrsBobDylan · 02/04/2016 10:58

I got this out of a skip and sanded and waxed it. It's perfect shoe storage and I love it so much I'm tempted to sleep next to it. And I'm not even joking.

Brabantia laundry bin. It looks like a little Dalek in the corner.
I love my feather duster. It's not actually made of feathers, but of fluffy stuff. So satisfying! As is my Dust Bunny, which I put on like a tanning mitt / glove puppet & run over everything in the lounge.
Love coming back from IKEA with a bag full of sponges etc... (sad).
The only April's Fool I fell for was a piece about Marie Kondo's apartment, where they showed an all white, mostly empty place. I'd just cleaned my house top to bottom & still felt like I was living in a shack! Thank God it was a joke!

Kidnapped · 02/04/2016 11:15

We have a walk-in larder in our new house. I often just wander in there and sigh contentedly.

bertsdinner · 02/04/2016 11:24

I get excited by cleaning products. I bought a new type of cream cleaner this week and got a frisson of excitement when I woke this morning, knowing I'll be cleaning the bath with it.
I also long for a Lakeland "ironing mate",(or something), you hang your ironed clothes on it,rather than the back of the door, while you're doing the ironing.

I also get a lot of joy from seeds. I like to get them and just look at the packs. My sister calls it my plant porn.

Stop it, please. Envy

Mrs. BobDylan that looks amazing. Your shoe thingy is probably the most successful example of 'upcycling' that I've seen.

Excited101 · 02/04/2016 11:34

It's not an item (due to a very limited in space 1 bed flat) but an empty laundry basket is incredibly satisfying. Especially if the clothes airer is also empty!

Also the hat trick of clean bed sheets, pjs and having had a bath/shower. It's one of my favourite things.

Oh! And my card book. I used to buy cards for people ahead of time but then lose of forget about them. Now I have a special book which organises them by month so I never lose or forget them. And my wrapper paper organiser box which is stored under my ottoman bed. I also have a present box as I like to pick up presents for people when I see them through the year rather than just panicking when I need them. I've already started on Christmas... ducks and runs

Excited101 · 02/04/2016 11:35

I've also photographed all my shoes (about 30 pairs Blush ) and am going to stick the photos in the boxes they're in as well as having a compilation sheet on the inside of my wardrobe door to remind me of what shoes I have that I can choose from...!

Impressive.

This thread is like middle-aged lady catnip.

Excited101 · 02/04/2016 11:36

*on the boxes, not in. That would be pointless!

Excited101 · 02/04/2016 11:37

I'm not even quite 30 Apple... The shame!

Muskey · 02/04/2016 11:37

I have a solar powered rainbow maker which makes my heart sing. Does that make me a bit sad

Excited101 · 02/04/2016 11:37

Ah! I have one of those still at my parent's house Muskey I was just thinking I need to bring it down, they're lovely aren't they!

AppleSetsSail · 02/04/2016 11:39

Oh, Excited - please leave this thread and go clubbing or something. Immediately.

bananafish81 · 02/04/2016 11:40

Lakeland see through front pop open shoe boxes. See all your shoes and stack the boxes so they open at the front and you don't have to take all the boxes on top off to get your shoes out. /happy sigh

AppleSetsSail · 02/04/2016 11:40

God, Lakeland is really dangerous for me.

Excited101 · 02/04/2016 11:42

Haha! Isn't it disturbing.

If it helps, I'm one of the messiest and actually disorganised people I know as agreed by pretty much anyone who's ever met me. It worked in my favour once though when I worked abroad one winter and the two girls I was sharing a flat with offered me the only (double) bedroom (they slept on sofa beds in the living room) as I had been so messy in the hotel we'd been in previously.

I keep meaning to buy that organising book, it's on my wish list!

ButterfliesinSpring · 02/04/2016 11:42

I want to know be Excited IRL

I dream of reaching that level of organisation
