to ask what household crap brings you joy?

In the vein of KonMari and inspired by the £200 bin. I feel the need to know what else I'm missing out finding joy from otherwise boring yet necessary household crap

I don't have the iron station yet but think it would make my heart sing compared to tripping over how my ironing board iron and laundry is currently stored

You know what - I want cordless everything. Cords are such a pain in the arse

I want a cordless hairdryer and cordless straighteners and a cordless steam generator

And just everything

Selection of joy-sparking things!

  • kitchen Aid, love love love it. Had it for about 12 years so cost per use must be negligible now ;)
  • Nespresso machine. Love the ease of getting a good coffee
  • straw holder. Stupid little thing that keeps kids happy and stops half open packs of straws spelling over cupboards
  • just bought these cheap storage boxes in Asda - they made me smile! And easy to store

Because of this thread I've just bought the Joseph Joseph washing up bowl! My defence of this extravagance to DH will be because we don't have a dishwasher we spend hours washing up and this will mans it much more pleasant!

WhoKnowsWhereTheT1meGoes · 14/04/2016 12:01

I've just bought a three tier bathroom storage rack which has transformed the bathroom - no more shampoo bottles cluttering the edge of the bath and storage for clean and used flannels (we get through masses of them).

eitak22 · 14/04/2016 12:23

butterflies I had cordless straightners and tbh wasn't impressed, they didn't retain the heat that well (obviously) but was nice to not get myself in knots whilst straightening.

greebstreebling · 14/04/2016 19:32

I made it to the end! Now going back with pen and paper to make copious notes...

curluponthesofa · 14/04/2016 20:57

Straw holder! What a good idea! My DCs can't seem to get one straw out without emptying the whole pack into the drawer for me to find the next day.

WhoKnowsWhereTheT1meGoes · 14/04/2016 21:01

We've always had a strawholder but it took years before the DCs could lift the holder part out gently enough to not eject straws all overcthe floor. It does look nice though.

Woodhill · 16/04/2016 16:52

Used my cleaning caddy today, ok but then it toppled over. Such fun

unlucky83 · 16/04/2016 17:10

I was thinking of getting something to put straws in - they are the bane of my life DP uses them cos he has dodgy teeth so the DCs do too. They live in a packet in the cupboard and they take one and others fall out on the floor and side and I am never sure if they are used or clean etc. And DD1 (has ADHD, used to eat pencils) chews them up sometimes...
They need rinsed before going into the plastic recycling - so hang around next to the sink. I did use to try and get them to reuse them but was never successful ...I really hate plastic waste. If it wasn't for DP I'd never buy them ...
Anyway I was looking at straw dispensers -and saw reusable straws - that come with cleaning brushes (reason I hated those bendy ones in party bags - they use them for milk then they can never be cleaned)...now seriously thinking about getting some of them.
(And found you can get paper straws too ..but they are 'posh' ones so expensive and with them I'd still have to get something to put them in ....)

WhoKnowsWhereTheT1meGoes · 16/04/2016 18:32

The paper ones disintegrate really quickly.

MadauntofA · 16/04/2016 20:25

My reusable straws bring me joy - can't link, but bought them from wait rose in the picnic section - wide enough to clean easily.

unlucky83 · 16/04/2016 20:41

Well ...I've just ordered 4 metal ones from ebay with a brush ...www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stainless-Steel-Metal-Drinking-Straws-Reusable-with-Cleaning-Brush-UK-Seller-/281307487173 at £4.20 it is worth seeing how we we get on with them

Looked at the glass and the silicone ones but with a chewy DC think glass might be dangerous and the silicone ones they describe as 'chew proof' but suspect that is for 3yr olds - not a 15yr old with stronger jaws ... (She is much better but it is something she does without thinking ...still chews holes in her pjs/duvet cover sometimes, nearly chewed through the side of her bunk bed wooden rail - thankfully she doesn't like the taste of pencils any more though so the first bite makes her realise what she is doing ...she used to go through at least 10 a week and I'd find bits of chewed pencil everywhere Sad - never knew whether to be relieved she didn't swallow it or get angry with the mess...)

Rummikub · 17/04/2016 00:07

I've got the dyson cordless. But forget to use it as its hidden from sight in a corner. I'm going to put it in the middle of the living room now inspired by this thread.
Btw did anyone else click on one of the amazon links from this thread and then scroll through what other people had viewed? (Pearl thong anyone Shock)

unlucky83 · 17/04/2016 00:34

Ha that was a thread on MN ..so I guess that's why it came up... I wasn't silly enough to click on that link did a separate search.. And omg agree - why would you want one...But if you haven't seen it and can find the thread it was funny ....

Rummikub · 17/04/2016 00:48

Yes, ouch, surely! Grin and wince.

curluponthesofa · 17/04/2016 13:15

Yes the pearl thong thread is v funny! I have to admit I do look at stuff I wouldn't normally after reading threads on MN, I hate to think what my viewing history looks like!

LemonRedwood · 17/04/2016 14:06

Oops, that pearl thong one was probably me. I started that thread. Blush

ButterfliesinSpring · 17/04/2016 14:19

ButterfliesinSpring · 17/04/2016 14:26

I've just signed up for two years' supply of Brita water filters for my jug and as a free gift they're sending me a fridge dispenser which takes the same insert.

Is it a pig in a poke or does it bring anybody joy??

I'm thinking I can always go back to the trusty jug system...

I've just bought two rubber glove holders from lakeland. You stick your washing up gloves on them to drain. They're ace, although I wanted the hand shaped ones but I can't find them anywhere. I have been loving my heated airer this past month as the heating has been broken. I am also really enjoying my john lewis cleaning sprays, one in bergamot and one in pink grapefruit. Ooh and I've just bought a proper chunky wooden chopping block by good housekeeping. Obviously now I will produce a better quality of cooking...

I chucked my hand shaped ones out as they were such a faff to put gloves on so I never bothered
