to ask what household crap brings you joy?

In the vein of KonMari and inspired by the £200 bin. I feel the need to know what else I'm missing out finding joy from otherwise boring yet necessary household crap

I don't have the iron station yet but think it would make my heart sing compared to tripping over how my ironing board iron and laundry is currently stored

DisappointedOne · 02/04/2016 18:10

I love this thread and i am also in my twenties blush . I have never understood the appeal of lakeland but I shall be making a trip asap it sounds a bit like ikea?

It's about 30 times the price of IKEA but household porn

We have a lay-z-spa. Bought the 8 person massive version to use as a birthing pool.

In a gazebo.

Outside.

In October.

Midlife was very not impressed and forced me to go to hospital instead so now we use it in the summer. It's enormous and I'm kind of glad it didn't get gummed up with birth goop. Blush

Soft close toilet seat has changed my life. I'm not exaggerating.

pearlylum · 02/04/2016 18:21

Not owning an iron brings me joy.

candykane25 · 02/04/2016 18:24

Right pearly what equipment and tactics do I need to go completely iron free?

pearlylum · 02/04/2016 18:25

I feel sorry for you. Do you get out much?

pearlylum · 02/04/2016 18:29

candy- do you iron?

candykane25 · 02/04/2016 18:30

pearly I try not to.

DisappointedOne · 02/04/2016 18:31

I only iron DD's school uniform.

Fabric choice is key, as is giving each item a good shake and hanging it as soon as the washing machine is done.

Misssss · 02/04/2016 18:41

Out of all the gadgets and stuff I have in my house, this bring me the most joy. Look!!! You just screw them into the lemon, or lime and it turns in into a little spray. Best invention ever!

I've now got a squeegee ordered and have Lakeland webpage open on another tab.
Why do I keep my credit card with my phone? This is a bad combo. Grin

FinallyFreeFromItAll · 02/04/2016 18:48

Re going iron free - as soon as wash is finished, throw anything that can be tumbled, into tumble dryer and anything that cant be tumbled shake out each item and hang immediately. When tumble dryer finished shake out and hang (or neatly fold) those things immediately too. If you buy easy iron work/school shirts/blouses then you don't even need to iron them (well sometimes collars need doing).

DisappointedOne · 02/04/2016 18:52

I prefer DD to be in cotton so her school tops do need ironing. And I only tumble dry towels as it shrinks anything else.

Chottie · 02/04/2016 18:57

DH's socks and pants drawers. All MK, I did them without telling him. I found him just looking at them in amazement. :)

My junk drawer in the kitchen. It's now all organised with separate trays for keys, phone cables, lipstick and hand creams, scissors and sellotape.

Cagliostro · 02/04/2016 19:00

I have a major obsession with Really Useful Boxes. Actually lost count of how many we have, in a huge range of sizes. Blush

We have a nerd shelf in our living room which makes me smile whenever I look at it - lots of Lego, figurines etc :)

YesThisIsMe · 02/04/2016 19:03

Muji clothes pegs. Accept no substitutes. Rust-proof, attractive, cheap and indestructible. And because they don't so obviously look like clothes pegs you can use them to clamp packets of frozen peas etc without feeling like a slob.

Oh and I have a special built in shelf in a cupboard that holds my trays. We had a bit of a kitchen reorganisation last year and for three months I had to put the trays on the shelf with the cereal boxes: it nearly broke me.

Binkybix · 02/04/2016 19:14

You can use a window vacuum for shower screens too

Yes! I love doing this!

tupperwareAARGGH · 02/04/2016 19:15

I've just had my old emersion tank removed and I'm converting the cupboard to a pantry/larder thingy but will still have to keep linen in it. I can not wait for the shelves to be put up on Monday and I too will be just going in there and looking around Grin

I have a friend that does not iron her kids look really scruffy in their school uniform!

flightywoman · 02/04/2016 19:16

Storage makes me happy! I LONG for my understairs cupboard to be properly organised [sigh].

I love cupboards and boxes and organising...

I tried plate stacker things, they were too flimsy and a bit pants so I put them on their sides and they now provide nice dividers for baking trays so they don't all fall over.

FantaIsFine · 02/04/2016 19:28

Ha! I have several but these are my favorites: Ikea magnetic jars on Homebase magnetic paint inside cupboard for spices sorted alphabetically, natch. Bin inside a drawer (before it became something more standard) and my custom shoe boxes under the stairs...

Lusting after the cordless Dyson for as long as it's been out though...

BarbaraofSeville · 02/04/2016 19:36

Like the bin Fantals. That's very clever and makes you realise how we've been tricked into all these expensive 'solutions' to problems that didn't always exist in the first place.

Lakeland and Joseph Joseph must be raking it in.

I like the Muji clothes pegs too and am currently making a list of things I want to order from there while I wait for a particular notebook to come back in stock (I want B6 size to fit in my handbag and they're the only place I can find them unless ££££s).

I was looking at the website thinking 'there's probably loads I could get from here' but other than the notebooks, couldn't see anything specific, so if anyone has any other Muji finds, I'm all ears.
