to ask what household crap brings you joy?

In the vein of KonMari and inspired by the £200 bin. I feel the need to know what else I'm missing out finding joy from otherwise boring yet necessary household crap

I don't have the iron station yet but think it would make my heart sing compared to tripping over how my ironing board iron and laundry is currently stored

Lol mrshathaway
A couple of years ago my bank called me to discuss suspicious spending on my account...
It was me splurging!

fruitlovingmonkey · 08/04/2016 17:35

I was about to buy a dymo label machine when DH told me that he has one in his office. I'm torn between being happy that I have it to play with already and being disappointed that I won't own one for myself!
I have just had button style hooks put on my bedroom wall, so I can hang up my outfit while I get ready. Stole that idea from a nice hotel. Just need some stylish hangers to go with them now.

LemonRedwood · 08/04/2016 17:48

Haha, Mrs Hathaway! Busted!

Love this thread! Just what I need after a day of refereeing squabbling children. Things I love:

Karcher window vacuum, it's brilliant for getting the condensation off my old sash windows.

I love my Brabantia fall front bread bin. For years I had been using an annoying curved roll top bread bin when it suddenly occurred to me what a stupid shape it was as you to to squish the bread in! Now I can fit two whole loaves and more in the Brabantia, plus it opens in front so I use the flat top to store things like the butter dish. I got it for Christmas, DH knows me well...

My Nespresso milk frother.

curluponthesofa · 08/04/2016 18:17

I am really tempted by the Vileda spray mop. I have realised one of the things I hate about cleaning is lugging stuff around. Upstairs is all carpet except for the bathroom, so I end up lugging the bucket and mop all the way upstairs, slopping water on the carpet, just to mop the bathroom floor. Am now wondering about getting the spray mop and keeping it upstairs in the cupboard with the ironing board.

Also really tempted by the cordless vacuum! I hate vacuuming the stairs because it's really tricky with my Miele vacuum.

This thread has also got me thinking about re-organising my under sink cupboard!

pearlylum · 08/04/2016 18:57

curlup- I just use disposable floor wipes- Cif or equivalent. Small rooms, and I can whizz around and clean the whole floor and skirting board in 3 minutes flat. Much quicker than faffing about with a mop and bucket.

MrsHathaway · 08/04/2016 19:11

curlup I have a similar problem, which I solved by buying floor wipes from Wilko.

Do you have a link to the step chair Cats? That sounds like just what I need!

Butterflies I just had a look and john lewis don't seem to have them anymore but it is very much like this one: www.aplaceforeverything.co.uk/home-storage/kitchen-chair-and-stepping-stool

FastWindow · 08/04/2016 20:20

Im a sucker for the 'power aisle' in Tesco when all the cleaning products are on special. I buy limescale spray, bleach spray, this spray, multispray, spray starch (i dont iron)
Then i get home and happily put it all away under the kitchen sink. With all the other sprays i havent used yet

ButterfliesinSpring · 08/04/2016 21:01

Thanks Cats! Smile

Ok I'm just going to say it, out poo step has changed toileting forever! It's like the squatty potty but we just use a white bathroom step from IKEA. (Runs off and hides).

fruitlovingmonkey Button style hooks? Tell me more!

fruitlovingmonkey · 08/04/2016 22:14

They are from Muuto and they come in lots of different sizes.

Bananasandchocolatecustard · 08/04/2016 23:46

I've just looked st the muuto site, the hooks are lovely, but cost £79 !!

barkingfly · 09/04/2016 04:28

The steamer that KatherineRosalie posted can also be used for upholstery, curtains and just about any fabric.

puglife15 · 09/04/2016 06:41

Uh oh... There's a new cordless Dyson model WITH DOUBLE THE BATTERY LIFE AND MORE SUCKAGE!!

NEED!

fruitlovingmonkey · 09/04/2016 07:20

Ooh I guess the old Dysons will be reduced now. I'm very tempted but I HATE my dyson animal upright. It just seems to blow dust around on hard floors and scratches them Angry. Is the handheld a lot better?
Bananas the hooks were a gift from my DSis after I showed her a pic of the hotel ones. She wouldn't have spent that much so they must be an imitation but they look just the same.

And my sellotape dispenser.
Doesn't seem to be available in UK at the moment though I maybe didn't Google well enough :)

My final offering - my bird feeder. To my shame I don't put any food in it any more as I got a pair of bird-murdering cats - but I like looking at it still.

I bloody love this thread. I am unsupervised this weekend so feel like the credit card might be getting a hammering... Grin

I have a request though - does anyone have any recommendations for a nice worktop food waste caddy? We have the horrible council-supplied brown plastic one and I'd just like something a bit more picturesque, BUT it obviously needs to fit the standard compostable binbags. Maybe a sort of nice mini-dustbin shaped thing? Ideally in white or silver.

I have faith in you, MN hive mind! Show me the bin porn!

unlucky83 · 09/04/2016 12:41

The Dyson still doesn't seem to stand up on its own though?
That's what really put me off - having to prop it up or put it on the floor to move a chair etc with more than one hand. Is it not a pain because of that?
I also looked at the Gtech AirRam (like I said I have a cheap Gtech powered carpet sweeper upstairs and I like it) but I didn't like that you didn't have something to get into the edges, dust the skirting boards.

My cordless vacuum is this type - www.amazon.co.uk/Morphy-Richards-732000-Cordless-Cleaner/dp/B00IVOMXW0/ref=pd_sim_sbs_79_1?ie=UTF8&dpID=31KevDzLkpL&dpSrc=sims&preST=AC_UL160_SR160%2C160&refRID=0CQ7F69AXK666RD715SQ
Mine is actually a Hoover model but they don't seem to do it any more. And I don't know what the motor size is - not very powerful but for hard floors it is good enough - and at the time I got mine none (even the Dyson) were good enough to replace a corded one altogether - they were more quick run round things and it works well for that (and most importantly for me stands up on its own!)
