Humungous thanks to Greymalkin for leading us so professionally and capably through March! Thanks

And thank you in advance to Einstein for covering the first four days of this thread (while I sidle off)!

If you are struggling with C.H.A.O.S. (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (Something That Undermines Family Fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own unique, relaxed style) with lots of support and chat along the way.

Flylady link here.

Don't let the somewhat sickly and barftastic language of the site put you off: the underlying system is sound!

This little-and-often system is designed so that you can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in zones of the house which are designated weekly; defining and minimising housework; which in theory should leave you with loads more time to do something more interesting instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling when you are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once. No problem if you miss a day or two; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again!

It's up to you, but we advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be swamped with masses of bumph. All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 minutes a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

** And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.

There are three key points to keep in mind throughout:

  • No perfectionism allowed - this is harder than you would imagine and many of us on this thread struggle with this one.
  • You are never behind - just start where you are and anything you do is progress.
  • It didn't get into a mess overnight - it won't get tidy over night - accept it will take time to get on top of things.

If you are new; then trying to spend 15mins decluttering daily and doing the babysteps is a good way to start. Some of us (mentioning no names!) can have scary looking ‘ta-da’ lists but don't let that worry you. Do what you can, anything is better than nothing, and don't judge yourself against others.

If all else fails, a brew + the power of three technique + a bit of support on here can work wonders!

Here's the launch pad for more experienced fledglings

Oh and don’t let it put you off if we appear a bit cliquey, we really aren’t! . Some of us have been on here for years and some of us natter rather a lot – but all lurkers, intermittent returnees, oldies and newcomers are very, very welcome!

I have the joys of that tomo Blue I have been knitting cotton baby bibs. Lovely easy quick knit. Will go from nothing to huge pile in 1 day and will send out on Monday with my pile of parcels that I am accumulating.

Ds has had a much deserved PJ day. I haven't seen him except to admire the latest version of his lego gun/assult rifle thingy. There has been NO flying. This will change as we are tackling ds' room and the lego. lego sorting Oh tomo is going to require something strong by the end of it.

Also the entire house has to be finished decluttering by the beginning of June a whole two months and double the amount of work originally scheduled. Oh got to love guests and building work combinations. I would love to say that there will be lovely clean tidy by the end of it. But building dust. Plaster dust. Tiling dust. Yeah. orders for posh whisky may be placed as a reward Actually who am I kidding it will just be an order for crafting material, making all the things people. All the things

I have also not really flown today. Dd had a friend over today so I took them out for a two hour bike ride (I pushed the buggy, they rode) Later my dad came over and then this evening I snuggled with the baby and fell asleep for 3 hours - I think it was all the walking Blush

Dp on the other hand had a rather productive day - he did the food shop, hoovered, mopped all the floors and dried all the washing - at least one of us did some flying Grin

Good morning fledglings! Hope everyone ok!

Sorry not to get to the links last night. Posting now!

**

Baby-step no 9, for today, Sat 9 April is: here explains the five min room rescue decluttering technique and reminds us that it takes 28 days to establish a new habit.

It's our last day in Zone 2 : Kitchen, Back Porch, Laundry Room, Pantry (April 04 – 09) . Spend 15 mins decluttering this zone (if you choose to do zone work at the w/e that is!)

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 2 is here.

No mission today because it is the weekend!

The daily focus for Sat is family fun.

The monthly habit for April is //www.flylady.net/d/habits-of-the-month/april/ making your bed!

For a summary of the above, see the flight plan : //www.flylady.net/c/fp.php?tzm=-120 which should update itself daily.

Mercury your dh sounds great! (Hope you are not over-doing it pushing buggy though! Take it steady today!)

Einstein I also have an end of June decluttering deadline so will be with you in spirit!

Blue sorry about your frustrating day yesterday; juggling work with the dc must be v diff in the holidays (more Wine for later!)

Cotswold hope you have a restful w/e and a good night out tonight!

Knitting v Envy of your St Ives booking - all that wonderful light - and those wonderful artists. Don't forget the gouache! Hope the Paris trip went well!

I was never allowed to "splatter" anything as a child but agree it is so essential to learning! And any sort of waste was regarded as the biggest sin (war time generation parents).

We are meant to be entertaining today for which we baked cakes yesterday. However we were all up in the night coughing and spluttering. Praying dd does not have temp.

Also feeling rather down in the dumps, as without giving too much away, plans for future life here/house renovation which were looking v positive of late etc have been delivered yet another blow.

Heigh ho!

Hope everyone enjoys the last few days of the holidays (if that is the case for you and your dc!) and big waves to one and all!

Sorry, doing my dipping in and out. A few areas have been making me feel edgy lately so I ousted dh and dd to theme park we have annual passes for and have today:
Cleared a shelf in the kitchen full of out of date vouchers
Attacked the two junk toy tubs in the living room - now down to one and bits thrown away.
Tidied toys from living room into dd bedroom apart from a handful
Sorted a toys into loft for toy amnesty (to charity shop if not missed)
Located all parts to pram and photographed and posted on websites for sale
Ditto vaude baby carrier
Sorted book pile in my bedroom which was horrendously dusty and had vouchers/receipts near the bottom from 2014!! Either put in bag for charity shop or put in bookcase
Hoovered said corner.
Phew. I'm knackered!!

Hope everyone else is going well today. :)

Evening all!

Thanks Ratbagcatbag (I have more than an inkling re new nn but not 100% certain!! Apologies, it's been a long day Smile)

All is not quite lost yet on renovation front... we'll see ... but not looking good!
Congrats on your long list of things achieved!

In the end thought it best to inform this afternoon's guests in advance that we were all a bit spluttery and had colds but that we were going ahead and most (understandably) made decision not to attend. So we had easier day than intended and lots of left-over food!

Therefore spent almost entire day watching Aintree coverage and eating Cake Blush

Baby-step no 10 for tomorrow, Sun 10th April is: here. Continue previous baby-steps + learn about the power of 15 mins! A good 'un!

I personally don't do zone work at the weekend, but tomorrow will be our first day in Zone 3 (April 10-16) : [[http://www.flylady.net/d/zones/zone-3/ The bathroom and one extra room]].

Newcomers: the extra room can be a second, or third bathroom, a guest bedroom, a child’s bedroom, the office, or the laundry room. Just pick one extra room and focus on it this week.

Spend 15 mins decluttering in Zone 3 (if you choose to do zone work at the w/e that is!)

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 3 is here.

No mission for Sun because it is the weekend!

The daily focus for Sunday is renewing your spirit ie do something just for for you that is re-energising!

SC hope the renovations plans don't fall through completely. How long will it be before you know?

Hi, minimal flying today - only a couple more days before DD is back at school so apart from one day next week, I'll be doing a big spring clean and sorting stuff out!

We have a bit more work to do in the bedroom furniture-wise, but it's a good chance to go through everything in there. Apart from two days I should be at home for most of next week which should give me a good chance to make an impression on it all. The upstairs of the house is just littered with boxes and clothes at the moment!

DD wants to go to the cinema tomorrow, but will get some work done either side of that outing.

Have a good one!

Morning all. Haven't been online much the last few days (I know. Weird.)

Have done no Flying, and am fighting a cold/wheeziness, though it's not nearly as bad as it could be so that's a positive!

House is in as sorry a state as ever. Well, I suppose it is slightly better really, since a lot of it has been decluttered, but I mean the general mess is back with a vengeance.

Sorry about the bad news SC I really hope it gets sorted Thanks

not much to contribute. I am lying in bed, having retreated upstairs so as not to spoil dtwins "waffles with whipped cream and strawberries breakfast"...they at last seem to be team players, went to shops by themselves for ingredients, decided to do the breakfast, are chatting together. It is a MIRACLE (for two children who really haven't got on over the last four years)

Dh has gone to a business fair, I am feeling a bit jittery at thought that something might have to be done by the time he returns..kitchen a mess, chicken not in the oven, and I'm still wearing a old blanket.

Garden still looking lovely (well to my eyes, very messy to other people no doubt) with the orange tulips and new leaves. I could sit forever and just feel sunshine.

SC my life plans never seem to get lift off either. It is most frustrating, and always to do with small day to day difficulties which are of course reasonable and insurmountable. Like money and school Sad If only one could be oneself in 30 years time and just swat all these difficulties out of the way with one's hindsight flywhisk, but not of course possible when living in the here and now.

Paris was a bit of a torment for dh, there he was sitting in the Cafe de Deux Magots thinking what was I thinking, the children have never even heard of Jean Paul Sartre...beseiged by pick pockets outside the Gare Du Nord, and generally said Paris was lookingi a bit grimy. All a bit tiring really getting up at 5am and then back by nightfall. He appreciated home though and ds2 said he liked coming home that evening, TWO lots of Eurostar in one day.

I read the Lady bird Tale of Two Cities with ds2 today, and he concentrated for once.

Thanks Caglio - calpol and cuddles have worked and she's much improved. (Pj day was much needed though). Play in bath soon and early night (for all of us after the horror of last night).

Not much done today. Two carrier bags have left the house though as used to take part in a hobby which we no longer do. Rather than bin associated bits that could help others getting into the sport we've dropped off them off with someone local who is going to pass them on.
Back on it tomorrow evening.

This is when I when I absolutely love home schooling. No school for ds2, and dd has Inset tomorrow, so have only the "fear" with ds1. He has now pinched the alarm clock saying he needs to get up at 6am to get ready tomorrow???? Is this homework he has not completed, or some very strange desire to look presentable for first day at school..not sure...

dh cooked supper, I have taken the twins swimming, all is sweetness and light round here for once. Except that ds2 is watching golf rather obsessively and telling me it is interesting how the wind affects play.

Very little flying today as I've been out for most of it.

Two weeks ago ds started going to hockey training & decided he would be a goalie.

So today he was thrown right in at the deep end as due to the girls goalie being unavailable & the boys goalie had an emergency op hecwas asked to play.

But travelling to a hockey club an hour away located in the middle if the Manchester marathon route was stressful!

Finally got home after 6pm , dd & dd had done Sunday dinner for us.

However it's back to school tomorrow so I have some To Do's namely

Set dishwasher off & clean sink
Packed lunch for tomorrow
Check ds has his uniform ready & schoolbag packed
Lay out my own work clothes

Would have liked to do some hot spotting but it's not happening!

Evening all!

Good luck to those of you (and your dc) for whom school and work re-starts tomorrow!

And for those of you with a few days of holiday left - hope you enjoy them!

Caglio hope you can fight off the chest infection - there's a lot of it about atm! And good luck with the start of "term" tomorrow morning.

Lovely to see you OneDayIWillBeOrganised and you never have to worry about dropping in and out of this thread! We all do it! Real life has a tendency of "getting in the way" sometimes!

Many apologies re: nn Ratbag! Good to have you with us! And glad to hear your dd is feeling a bit better today. Well done re: the decluttering too!

Sympathies Einstein no shouting here today because we did that yesterday and because dd knows that it probably wasn't the best of ideas to leave reading an entire book in French and two maths hwk exercises until the very last day of a fortnight's holiday ... but doom very much impending ... .

Holidays have been far too busy and far too full of obligatory entertaining for my liking but at the same time such a relief from the usual school and work routine (which sounds rather pathetic I know from someone who no longer attends school and only does approx 12 hrs work a week).

Still, today was blissful as I have done sod all but walk dog with dh and sit on terrace in the sun reading and chuck leftovers at dh and dd and try not to think about tomorrow. All of our colds are a bit better (dh is still suffering though) and dd has a cough but not bad enough to prevent her from going to school tomorrow.

Thanks Caglio and Cotwold and Knitting the house situation seems better when I face the garden Grin! The herbs and spring bulbs and flowers look lovely if you can ignore the rusting balustrades and crumbling walls. I'm calling it Italianate Wink

Cotswold good luck with 'project upstairs' next week!

Knitting I am sure you can make a blanket look incredibly stylish! Smile I don't like to think of you feeling even a little bit jittery on a Sunday afternoon though... .

As for life plans ... yes ... oh dear ... I've never been good at them. Or rather, I'm good at making them, but hopeless at putting them in to practice. Neither am I good at the "here and now" for that matter.

And your dh should be cheered by the fact that the dc have certainly heard of JPS now! Smile

Anyway, speaking of not knowing what we want and yet being responsible for what we are ...

... I need to go and lay out clothes for tomorrow and turn the alarm clocks back to 5.50 am [groan]

Existentialist waves to all!

Back in a mo with links!

I remember only too well the meltdowns that happened before a new term (and every day week TBH, but ones after holidays were much worse), I am very glad we are out of that now.

I just have The Guilt as I feel like we've done fuck all work lately! Blush DD actually has homework for writing club and Brownies that we've totally ignored too so I guess that will be the focus of the next few days.
