Woo hoo! It's the second Bullet Journal thread! For the benefit of newbies - Bullet Journal is a brilliant way to organise your whole life in a lovely notebook. Perfect for anyone who has tried every app and every scheduling system but just can't seem to get on top of things. Also perfect for lovers of beautiful stationery and especially for people who like lists!

Sooo - get out your fineliners and your washi tape! Stroke your Leuchtturms! And get all that stuff that's whizzing round in your head out onto paper instead!

That's dotted, but I assume squared is the same.

mercifulTehlu · 29/04/2016 15:54

How about the lined ones? I can't cope with the idea of dots and squares - I'm a lines person! Bendy - I'm in exactly the same position as you. Not halfway through BuJo no.1 and I'm eyeing up Leuchtturms!

My BuJoing is going to undergo severe testing. I have a temporary full-time teaching job starting on Tuesday for the next 4 weeks. I'm hoping the BuJo will help keep me at least semi-sane!

Wow. What sorcery is this? Love it. Must start. What size journals are you using? Will one do the year? Xx

mercifulTehlu · 29/04/2016 17:56

It is sorcery indeed Grin .

Hard to say how long one will last - it depends on how many purposes you use it for. If you put a lot of 'collections' in it as well as the basic planner, calendar, daily journal pages, then you'll get through it pretty quickly and be able to buy a shiny new one all the sooner .

I caved and bought a Leuchtturm. Ooh it's just lovely! But I've ballsed up twice in the first few pages Angry trying to decide whether to sully my lovely book with tippex or just ignore the mistakes and pretend they don't exist at all!

JemTheAngel · 30/04/2016 18:41

I'd ignore them. Nothing is perfect and I think tippex draws attention to it even more.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 30/04/2016 19:44

Thanks for the leuchtturm dimensions!

I ripped out 3 pages this week ShockShockShock I thought some others might fall out, because that happens sometimes when you rip a page out, but the spine is clinging on to them for me thank god. I am a tippex fan as well!

AGnu · 30/04/2016 21:40

This is why I use a pencil! Wink

TeaAndBisquits · 01/05/2016 17:05

I love my BuJo and thanks to this thread got a fab new shiny one from eBay!!! Even the DH has one now! Next stop, more Washi tape!

JemTheAngel · 01/05/2016 17:07

I love mine. But can honestly say there is zero chance of DH ever having one. DD has one, that's the best I can hope for.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 01/05/2016 22:26

Just reporting back in. I posted a week or so back saying my main problem was keeping it with me (if I take it to work it gets left in my handbag by the front door which is miles away from the kitchen where I spend most of my time etc). So, I have got into a new routine and things are working much better. Bujo comes upstairs with me at night and I update anything I need to, check the next few days/week against my phone calendar (I only work a week or two ahead in the BuJo as all longer term stuff is on my phone). Then I bring it down to the kitchen table with my phone in the morning. If it's a work day both come to work and return to the kitchen table afterwards, if it's a home day BuJo stays on the kitchen table. then upstairs again at bedtime. I have a separate book with tear out pages for all food related stuff, shopping lists etc, that works well too, means I don't have to take Bujo shopping with me (useful stuff like window sizes, random things to be picked up in town are all on my phone).

One thing I am still having trouble with though is fitting everything I need for a weekly plan into one double page of A5. I'm dividing it up like a week to view diary, but by the time I've got events, to do lists, work for DCs (spellings, times tables etc), household jobs, emails to follow up etc, it is jam packed and quite hard to read (I have big handwriting). So I might need to tweak my format and learn to write a bit smaller.

Babieseverywhere · 11/05/2016 23:58

Darn it...should of been in bed hours ago but I decided to do my June weekly layouts and it took ages but it is done :)

DoreenLethal · 19/05/2016 06:52

Morning wankers.

:)

So I was on a course yesterday and a few times, I pulled info out of my BuJo. The course tutor remarked on my little book of magic, with 'all the things' and I told them it was a Bullet Journal.

So I might need to tweak my format and learn to write a bit smaller.

Abbreviate things? I get this but shift planning bigger things to separate pages. So the weekly thing is my 'overview' but when one event or activity needs a list of its own [more than 3 things] it gets it's own page.

Drinksforeveryone · 19/05/2016 06:57

Place marking to read later.

I'm a novice bullet journaller but learning.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 19/05/2016 23:27

Thanks Doreen - I already abbreviate a lot (in fact I an getting worried about the fact that I have to do a 3 hour handwritten exam the week after next and I can't seem to write in full words and sentences any more).

However since that post I have tweaked my format effectively - the diary is now only one page with events and dinner/daily tasks in two columns and the facing page has a weekly to do list instead of writing them in in Mon, carrying forward to Tue etc. Also using different colours to set the page up on a Sunday for the following week.

EmmanuelleMumsnet · 21/05/2016 22:01

I have just read both threads and need to BuJo (can I use it as a verb?).

Just a quick Q. Do any/many of you use it for more personal things, like creative writing, notes and observations etc… or do you use them purely for organisational purposes?

BarbaraManatee · 22/05/2016 16:46

I used to use mine for observations of my DS that I could use to support our case in his ASD diagnostic assessment but I've just bought new notebooks so I've got a different one for observations of each DC's development. I keep post its in my BuJo for making a brief note to remind me to write up a full account so I don't have to carry lots of notebooks around.

Bellatrixurstrange · 23/05/2016 22:06

Just wanted to share a tweak I've found life-changing. I have certain tasks I have to do every week or every month. I tried doing a tracker but I got demotivated and sick of checking it all the time. Boring.

So, I got a load of page flags and wrote the tasks down - shopping, scouts, beds, bins, gym, etc etc and I stuck them on a plastic sheet in my arc planner. I wrote down what they hold underneath and stuck it down with tape so instead of writing, rewriting the same old bloody shit I just move the flags from the page back to the task page when I'm done. Easy. No more ignoring the big task list, no more trying to keep it all in my head and no more time wasted writing out mundane drivel. Boom. Will work easily in notebook too. Don't write and rewrite the same things out unless you enjoy it. I still tick to have the satisfaction of acknowledging I've done something but no more repetitive writing. Same for stuff on the monthly goals list. If you have an ongoing project of lose weight or exercise X a week don't waste time on writing it. Just move the flags and tick the box. Thank-you and goodnight.

Bellatrixurstrange · 23/05/2016 22:12

Forgot to say - also works with meal planning! :-) regular family favourites, anyone? Put them on flags and move them around! Time saving.

AttillaThePun · 24/05/2016 07:14

First job: buy a nice notebook.
Second job: marvel at the concept of an index for all my lists.

Currently I have a bunch of reminder lists and notes on my phone, but while the calendar is handy I much prefer things on paper.

I do have a master shopping list on my phone already (preens).

I also have half a dozen fountain pen ink colours and nothing to do with them, and an irrational love of notebooks (and dislike of regular diaries). So I just read both threads becoming increasingly giddy about taking up BuJoWa. Grin

You're all a bunch of enablers and I like you already.

storybrooke · 24/05/2016 10:51

Argh. I'm in. As a reward for completing konmarie (or nearly) I've ordered these goodies! (Yes I'm aware for normal people that's a bit Hmm) and I can't wait to start! It will be pretty and functional place to doodle and make me into the organised supermum I see on Pinterest probably not but its good to have life goals.

shirkingworking · 26/05/2016 22:42

I'm in too! Need to get a grip... Have a lovely yellow leuchtturm now with an index, future log, few days of May and a nicely crossed to do list for today.

I have three children (including a not-quite-toddler), work 4 days a week, husband is often away and am constantly dropping balls (Shakespeare day, school trip forms, birthday cards for best friends etc etc).

This week I have decided to take start trying to take control. (And got a cleaner to do an extra 2 hours a week Blush - cheating and extravagant but life is too short....)

JemTheAngel · 28/05/2016 17:05

Not posted for a while, but have been religious with my Bujo. I started mid April, so just coming to the end of my first full month. And it really has revolutionised my life. I've kept to a financial budget for the whole month and not gone over it, my house is tidy and clean and I've only forgotten one thing I should have done. I'm about a third of the way through my notebook. I'm probably making less effort to make the spreads pretty, but I'm still loving my fountain pen and the concept really suits me.

Next week, with half term, is going to be a challenge though I think. Had inset day yesterday and got nothing done at all on my list. But have managed to catch up a bit today.

How is everyone else doing?

storybrooke · 28/05/2016 20:44

jem that's good to hear it's working for others Smile I'm hoping it works for me, I have so much to remember with appointments, kids parties, events, when dh is off/in work, the list goes on. And I have a list of lists so I don't miss any Confused

I started last night but think that I'm thinking too much. Here's the sum total of what is in my book. I've not gotten around to filling anything in yet (damn shiny pens distracting me!) but I'm struggling whether to do each month as it comes or do each month now, we have a big Calendar that I check each night anyway so each as it comes I'm thinking may be best.

Does everyone just put a random list in between weeks or at the end or what? I have a housework list, birthday to do list/invite list/ideas list, diy list, meal planner, garden to do list, financial list and tracker list, also contact list for things like dentist, doctors, speech therapist, etc. I think that's everything but there's probably more! I will stop saying lists now
