Woo hoo! It's the second Bullet Journal thread! For the benefit of newbies - Bullet Journal is a brilliant way to organise your whole life in a lovely notebook. Perfect for anyone who has tried every app and every scheduling system but just can't seem to get on top of things. Also perfect for lovers of beautiful stationery and especially for people who like lists!

Sooo - get out your fineliners and your washi tape! Stroke your Leuchtturms! And get all that stuff that's whizzing round in your head out onto paper instead!

wheresthat I have always used only one basket. When its full it goes into the washing machine and straight into the dryer minus a few things like knitwear and DH's shirts.

I don't understand all the other systems of separate baskets for various things. Keep it simple is my motto!

Devora · 03/03/2016 21:58

Yes, my BuJo is with me at all times. That's the point, isn't it? For me, to keep it at home being all sacred (and full of beautiful coloured pens) is kind of putting it on a pedestal, making it another thing I have to service, rather than something that is servicing me. The idea of having ANOTHER notebook where I jot down things that then have to be transferred into the BuJo reminds me of that suggestion on Flylady that, in order to keep your sink clean and shiny, you could keep your dirty dishes hidden in a washing up bowl in the cupboard under the sink...

Of course, I always have a big heavy handbag so one more thing doesn't matter. And I will have to kill myself when I inevitably lose it, but there you go.

AtiaoftheJulii · 03/03/2016 21:59

So ... you mix up different sorts of clothes and stuff? ShockHmmShock

Not sure I could do that Grin

Also just had a discussion with my daughters about whether Pilot Sign Pens are for doing really good signatures, or for bold signwriting.

AtiaoftheJulii · 03/03/2016 22:05

Also? Not sure what I meant there!

Dd2 just got home from work and tells me that there's a March promotion (student discount among other things) on at Staples (where she works), and all the signs say from the 1st to 31rd March, lol.

newlark · 03/03/2016 22:31

Can I join you? I heard about Bullet Journalling a while ago and did a 6 week trial from mid-Jan in a notebook I already had and realised it was making a big impact (especially not forgetting things that I kept meaning to do and only remembering when it wasn't possible to do them e.g. remembering a phone call I should have made when it was too late to ring.

So, I ordered a lovely Rhodia dotted notebook and a new Lamy fountain pen and started afresh on Monday. I'm sticking more or less to the original undecorated monochrome idea...

Kewcumber · 03/03/2016 22:45

I cannot wash whites with colours/darks- just can't. My mother would turn in her grave, if she were dead.

Kew

Hahahaha Grin PMSL @ my mother would turn in her grave, if she was dead

That is going straight into my "funny quotes" compilation.
You're hilarious Grin

MissingPanda · 03/03/2016 22:52

Welcome newlark and wheresthat 😊

My washing system is pretty simple. I do mine and the DC do theirs 😁

I'm currently playing around, on my mind, with a new calendar thingy (technical term) for April that I'm hoping will help more with a cleaning rota.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 03/03/2016 22:52

What is with me my phone? This time I loaded the photo, but didn't explain...anyhoo, building work has begun. Yippee!

MissingPanda · 03/03/2016 22:53

Kew 😂😂

MissingPanda · 03/03/2016 22:55

I did wonder if it was some secret message zing 😂

Vistaverde · 03/03/2016 22:56

For those of you asking about washi tape.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 03/03/2016 23:05

Still

Do you know how to access widgets on your phone?
If not, please get someone to show you - I can only explain mine (Samsung something smartphone), if that Blush

Basically you need to install a widget from your widgets options - mine a face with a tiny envelope in the corner, to show it's a text one. (There's a tiny phone option too, I have a widget each to text or call DH too, it speeds things up)
Then you need to add contact details which is your own mobile number in this case, for name I put "my notes".
And that's it.

Next time you want to make a quick note just tap on icon and send yourself a text.
I hope that makes sense, I'mrubbish at explaining stuff when I don't know the correct terminology, sorry!
(Obv useless if no reception - then I have to resort to writing on the back of my hand! Grin)

SoupDragon · 04/03/2016 07:08

I thought Zing was suggesting she was going to bury me under her extension so I could turn in my grave

mercifulTehlu · 04/03/2016 07:15

I'm thinking of changing my daily journal system Shock. Does anyone do a system where they have a tasklist for the week for housework etc and tick those off throughout the week rather than write the tasks into your daily journal entries? If so, how do you lay it out?

I'm a bit fed up with writing 'do washing' so many times! And re-writing housework tasks on subsequent days when I haven't had time to do them!

OP posts:
DoreenLethal · 04/03/2016 07:23

Yes!

For my weeks I do a mini monthly list and below it, a task list.

7 M 8:45 start new job bring weekly plan [ ]

8 T 8:45 @ gardens bring seeds [ ]

9 W 8:45 @ gardens

10 T 8:45 @ gardens

11 F 8 am @ Delivery of X at Y school

12 S

13 S 12 - 1 @ gardens to collect Belfast Sink

Task list
Prep resources for Friday [ ]
Email X [ ]
Post y [ ]
Finish off shed bench [ ]

So anytime tasks are below whilst things that need sorting per day are with the day list. I leave 3 lines between each dated line so that I can add in tasks that need doing on whatever day. But the rest goes in the weekly task list.

SoupDragon · 04/03/2016 07:25

Can you write Household Chores on your daily list and then have a subsequent list of chores in a tracker arrangement so you can see when they were done and what needs doing now?

mercifulTehlu · 04/03/2016 07:59

I was more thinking of having my daily journal entries just for appointments, work-related tasks and non-regular tasks and then having a separate tick-list of weekly housework tasks at the bottom of each week. It might mean having to keep my week to one double page spread though.

OP posts:
BYOSnowman · 04/03/2016 08:05

Depending on how many household chores you have I would do it as a checklist - tasks down and dates across top of you have loads - and just put a cross in the box

If you don't have too many you could do it across one page rather than two by having dates down and chores along the top

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 04/03/2016 08:11

Found this daily tracker example Tehlu

BuJo Wankers 2 - declutter your mind!
mercifulTehlu · 04/03/2016 08:16

Oh, just saw your post, SoupDragon. That makes sense!
Doreen the tasks I'm talking about would maybe be classified as your anytime ones. Basically all the housework tasks that need doing weekly. I know some people don't like to include such basic stuff in their BuJo, but I find it motivating to tick them off and tend to let things slide if I don't keep track.

Putting them on the daily entry is really getting annoying though! I like the idea of a tracker -style list actually. I've finally got on top of my monthly tracker. It was the one thing in my BuJo that hadn't really taken off. I'm finding the trick for me is to track no more than 2 things per month, otherwise I just don't do it. Mine this month are drinking at least 5 large glasses of water and doing meditation every day. I love putting my little coloured dots in the columns to show I've done it!

I still can't believe the difference BuJo is making to my organisation levels, the tidiness of my house and my peace of mind. It's also (as I hoped it would) giving me a bit more spare time to do stuff I want to do. Last night dh was going out, and instead of thinking 'I'd better catch up on the things I was supposed to have got done today/this week ', I sat down and did some knitting Smile.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 04/03/2016 08:19

I do think household tasks work better as a tracker - e.g. you might not have time to clean the kitchen on Tuesday but could do it on Wednesday and have a quick hoover on Tuesday instead. As long as over time they all get done regularly, it doesn't matter when they are done.

I'm a little concerned that the person who did Zing's example needs to be reminded to feed the puppies. :)

SoupDragon · 04/03/2016 08:21

I've had to put mine to one side for a few weeks as I get through the hell of all 3 SmallDragons havng birthdays in the last 4 weeks. Cake, cake and more cake! I didn't have the spare brain capacity to use the BuJo and get it sorted, although I did still use my shopping list page.

mercifulTehlu · 04/03/2016 08:24

BYO I don't think I need dates. It's going to be just a list of weekly tasks in no particular order - e.g. change beds, hoover bedrooms, clean bathroom, dust, do washing (I'll do a tally of loads for this one) etc etc. I don't need to do any of them on a particular day - I just need to make sure I've done everything on the list by the end of the week.

I'm actually hoping that if I have them on one long list like that, I might try and power through them as early in the week as possible and leave myself more free time towards the end. Rather than allocate them to specific days and therefore not think of doing them until their allotted day iyswim. I may be overthinking this Grin.
