Woo hoo! It's the second Bullet Journal thread! For the benefit of newbies - Bullet Journal is a brilliant way to organise your whole life in a lovely notebook. Perfect for anyone who has tried every app and every scheduling system but just can't seem to get on top of things. Also perfect for lovers of beautiful stationery and especially for people who like lists!

Sooo - get out your fineliners and your washi tape! Stroke your Leuchtturms! And get all that stuff that's whizzing round in your head out onto paper instead!

Jemster

The original future log set up doesn't work for me.
If you look at my posts last night, you'll see how I've done it - I assigned a colour for each month and simply started recording any future events as a list, each entry preceded by a square that is coloured in with that month's colour.

So anytime I look at my future log it's instantly obvious which event is in which month!
I left 4 pages for future log, once it fills in I'll start and index a few more.

This system has 3 massive advantages for me:
1, eliminates the problem I have with too little or too much space left per month as shown in original set up
2, gives me the freedom to list events in a random chronological order
3, the colour coding helps me identify which month each entry belongs instantly, at a glance.

What do you think, would that be also useful for you?

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 28/02/2016 19:11

I meant that advantage number 2 is that I can list events in a random order (contradiction on term? Grin), and not have to worry that they are not in a chronological order.

justkeeponsmiling · 28/02/2016 20:01

I really like your system Zing . Number 2 was something I was also fretting over, I think you've solved it brilliantly. Also really like your way of colour-coding to instantly see which month. I'm going to use that when my Leuchtturm finally arrives (gaaah when? when???)

colour coding anymore than about 4 colours is too many for me! And I'm an accountant, I like things in chronological order.

One of the things I like best about the bujo system is the way you can let it evolve into being what you want...

March has evolved into

  • smaller monthly planner, just showing when I'm out all day or half day (colour coded by client) and any really important appts but not everything.
  • I've moved my habit tracker onto the monthly calendar page - not sure what I'll use the rest of the double page spread for yet.
  • my weekly planner is where it's at. Detailed diary for the week and task list for work and home for the week only moved to a daily list when I have a specific bunch of stuff to do on one day.
  • bit of colour when I'm bored but not much. Seriously considering moving to all pencil. I just like the feel of writing with it. Self sharpening mechanical is looking good...
  • washi tape tab for monthly planner page, washi tape strip along page edge of weekly page (does really make it easier to find the newest weekly and monthly page, plus a tab for weekly shopping list/meal planner.
Kewcumber · 28/02/2016 22:18

New March

Last week (notice mini habit tracker for weekend and miserably failing) - days of the week written on bright pink washi tape don;t show on photo but works down from Mon at top.

Jemster · 28/02/2016 22:56

Thanks Zing in the end I decided to just do the future log up to the end of the year so will see how that goes.

Kewcumber I love that meal planner idea - do you just have the one page & stick new stickies on each week?

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 28/02/2016 23:02

You are having fun Kew Grin

Here's my March Monthly planner so far.
As simple as possible.
I'm mainly using it for recurring events - only one square with a highlighter, don't even need to write! - and other date bound stuff that pops up.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 28/02/2016 23:05

That photo is rubbish. I'll try a smaller section of it.

Jenster the left hand page with the pretty colours is a handful of giant post it notes (about 10 pages, I already had on the fridge and never used hardly) which I write my shopping list on once I've done some basic meal planning, then I tear out the post it note and take it shopping. The meal planner on the right, is a wodge of post it notes (I keep a few spare inside the back cover. I have discovered that I only eat about 10 things (at a push) so just move them around and reuse them

Today was blank because it did have spag bol on it but i was too tired to make it so we got take out noodles instead! I moved things around and will have todays spag bol tomorrow.

I think I'm buying less food as a result.

Kewcumber · 28/02/2016 23:18

But yes just the one page - hence a tag on top right made from same washi tape as down the middle (I discovered I didn;t need to plan lunch).

To be clear we are not eating my mum for dinner on Wednesday but she is cooking for us!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 28/02/2016 23:32

not eating mum phew Grin

Here's a mock up of my 2 page "Birthdays" calendar. I love my colours!
Random names and dates of course.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 28/02/2016 23:34

Ffs!
Try again - Birthdays

Babieseverywhere · 29/02/2016 00:12

I am still enjoying my BuJo.

I have got into the habit of checking my meal planner in the evening and get out any frozen food I need in order to cook tomorrow. My food might only be OK but it is better than standing in the kitchen thinking what are we going to do for tea !

I love having to rewrite out my to do list daily, it means I revalued what I have on my list and if I really need to do it, or if I can schedule it instead.

My only concern is that I am 1/3 of the way through my lovely purple book and onto my second refill for my frixon pen. Guess I need to add buy more pens and new book to my to do list ;)

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 29/02/2016 02:43

Babies
I guess you'd better order supplies asap! Grin

I just realised (last night) that I had lost DD's Peppa Pig Scooter. Her beloved 'kooter", which we gave her for Christmas. Sad She has no idea yet, eek!
I must have left it in the charity shop on Thursday - I reckon it's been sold.

I've spent the last 3 hours unable to sleep, trying to take my mind off this by getting stuff done, writing out crochet project planner & tracker etc in my BuJo, but I'm still so upset about it and cross with myself. FX it will still be there tomorrow.
I managed to cross off every single task I had planned for the last 2 days. Maybe that's something.
and I had to buy pink, green and blue metallic markers to cheer me up, mild result

Babieseverywhere · 29/02/2016 05:00

Hope the charity shop noticed and kept the scooter to one side for you. If not maybe eBay might have one local to you ?

Sounds like you got loads done tonight and new pens...fab :)

Jemster · 29/02/2016 07:25

Thanks Kew I'll give this a try. I've always struggled with meal planning for some reason so need to find something simple that works for me.

Kewcumber · 29/02/2016 09:23

I really don't meal plan in any great detail (as you can see!) - just spag bol/chicken with noodles/tuna pasta bake (courtesy of DS) etc. Easy days when I'm working might be salmon fishcakes from ALdi (divine), burgers (specially selected angus burgers also form Aldi also divine) so easy if you just put them in a hot oven for 20-30 mins (they're very thick) then stick the lovely aldi brioche buns in for the last 5 mins, with some salad for me and sweetcorn for DS - nice easy tea.

Now I'm hungry.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 29/02/2016 10:06

Kew I'm drooling, gimme a burger now!

Found scooter!!!
Charity shop guy realised it was left by accident and saved it. Bless him. Zinglette will be so happy! Smile
