SusiS · 07/09/2006 08:00

morning! well, guess i better introduce myself too - we live in berkshire and we've got ds 2.4yrs and dd 10.5 months and the house always looks like a huge playground

i do try so hard to keep it tidy but once i get actually a surface to reappear dp thinks that's a place to put his things - feels like a neverending battle

oh well, i am determined

how did you do it again to make your family fear you?!?!?!?!?

damewashalot · 07/09/2006 08:04

I think it's the strange twitching that I start when he tips stuff in my sink

shazronnieWEARINGSHOES · 07/09/2006 08:05

Susis - everytime a drip lands on your shiny sink, completely over react and wipe immediately! Now my DH either avoids using kitchen sink altogether or wipes it himself.

Similar re surfaces - something along the lines of "Don't even think of putting that down there you untidy oaf" should do the trick if shouted often enough!

Seriously though, as the house gets tidier my DH seems to make less mess - as if he notices now, when he couildn't see his mess before.

Flamesparrow · 07/09/2006 08:17

I twitch lots too...

SusiS · 07/09/2006 08:31

pmsl gosh you lot made me laugh - thanks

hmmm, i think i need a notebook to write down all these priceless tips!!

are you using any 'special' tools for cleaning?!?!? i got loads but i think most of the things i don't even know what they are for

anyways, kids woke at usual 6am. milked and fed them (in front of the tv) while i had a shower and got dressed! yes, that's the new me
ds is in nursery and well, i am reading up on 'useful' tips how to tackle my day today - no time wasting anymore

i even left my shoes (well, slipperes really) on - will i fly away soon?!?!?!?!

mummyhill · 07/09/2006 08:54

Morning all.

Thanks for the cake Tort It was delicious.

Up and dressed beds stripped will make them later, sink shiny, swished and swipped and washing in. AM having to wash up by hand today as no dishwasher tablets will have to buy some when I do the shopping tomorrow.

Tackled the airing cupboard lastnight after I got burried under an avalanche of towels.

Need to find something else to do today as my foil/cling area consists of a caterpack of foil, cling and greaseproof paper sat on the window ledge. lifted them and cleaned the ledge before putting them back where they belong (or does that count?)

Flamesparrow · 07/09/2006 09:26

No sympathy for hand dishes - lack of dishwasher here, so welcome to my life!

DD's bed stripped, doing mine when the washload finishes.

AmandaP · 07/09/2006 09:36

Happy birthday for yesterday Mummyhill. I hope you got some nice presents which are now neatly put where they belong, and all wrapping paper etc in the bin

Have not done a lot today, cycled to school and fell off bike (twice!) due to ds who will insist on stopping so suddenly dd and I career into the back of him. As I have straps on my pedals I couldn't get my foot out fast enough LOL. It must have looked hysterical but actually it did hurt the second time! And I've even got a little graze to show for it! I'm having a medicinal cup of coffee and then I'm going to do my flying. Not sure what today's mission is so I'll look now...

BarefootJasnem · 07/09/2006 09:38

Morning - No sympathy here either. Dishwasher is not top of my list of things to buy, either (My cooker should be in a skip, and my fridge is making funny noises)

Yesterdays washing is still on the line, mess everywhere. I spent 3 hours at Rainbows and Brownies with the dds last night, so got nothing done.

I am going to do baby steps today, and see how I get on by this afternoon.

Hello new FLYers

Hi SusiS and Squatchette and samnbabes!

I have shoes on (velcro, not lace up!) but am in my pyjamas and haven't "fixed" my face and hair!

My special tools for cleaning are several microfibre cloths (am a total convert) and a spray bottle filled with water, white vinegar and tea tree oil. Oh, and the little round brushy attachment for the hoover!

shazronnieWEARINGSHOES · 07/09/2006 09:54

recipe for home made multipurpose cleanser

a squirt of washing up liquid
teaspoon borax
2 tbsp lemon juice
some drops of tea tree oil

put in spray bottle and add water.

cheap and eco friendly!

i love microfibre cloths too - use a damp one to dust (no flylady feather duster for me.)

SKYTVADICT · 07/09/2006 10:00

Good morning all and hello new people

I am at work today and also had my first case of feeling REALLY sick in the morning, too sick for breakfast so am very pleased with myself for leaving the house with the beds made and a shiny sink (just realised I forgot to swish and swipe!)

I will probably be too tired to do 15 mins decluttering in the kitchen tonight but hope to do the mission if I can.

I don't have any flytools really, I do use bathroom wipes to swish and swipe tho which I am sure is cheating and also a window cloth to do mirrors and tv.

Just off to see what the mission is

mummyhill · 07/09/2006 10:02

We were given the dishwasher about 2 years ago and with the hours I work it is a godsend. I am really missing it. My cooker probably should be in a skip too but can't afford to replace it so shall muddle through. Would be practically suicidal if the tumble dryer broke though. When both children are at school I shall pick up overtime durring the day so that I can replace ageing appliances etc. Although moving house will probably have to come before that as we are in a two bed with a dd and a ds. Right off to tidy/clean a kitchen cupboard.

SKYTVADICT · 07/09/2006 10:02

Just checked and am really pleased - no mission for me today as my cling film and stuff is kept in a draw that I decluttered on Tuesday. Hooray!

trinityrhino · 07/09/2006 10:04

morning all, so jealous of you wonderful flying people

Flamesparrow · 07/09/2006 10:07

Hows your sink TR?

SusiS · 07/09/2006 10:34

guess i deserve a cupper now

ds is at nursery and dd is happily playing on her own (did have some cuddletime earlier though)

got (yesterdays ) washing in and folded; put the new washing out. unloaded the dishwasher and put all the leftover dishes back in and shined the sink (i think i got it a bit shinier this time )

don't need to do the mission either; did that a few weeks back 'phewww'

so, what other babystep could i take????

JessaJam · 07/09/2006 10:37

None! Take no more baby steps than the one you were told to today! Get ahead of yourself and you could end up falling behind again! So, more cuppas and cuddles! Hurary!

What day of babysteps are you on?

Flamesparrow · 07/09/2006 10:42

Put the washing away, as well as folding it. It sounds so basic, but it is makingmy life so much better!!

Washing out, my bed still not stripped because DS is sleeping in that room. Drawer o' cr*p sorted (still looks like hell to the untrained eye though). Will do my 15 mins after school run - now sitting back with cuppa and book in my STILL tidy lounge.

I have found I'm reading more than watching tv because my lounge feels all peaceful and the tv disturbs it

mummyhill · 07/09/2006 10:55

Flame - I am finding life easier with the washing folded and put away as well. Amazing how something so simple can make me feels so good about myself and my house. No more piles of clothes hanging around and I can find stuff.

Swish and swipe is a great habit to get into as well as it means my bathroom hasn't turned into a complete disaster zone since I started.

I am loving the shiny sink as it encourages me to keep the rest of the kitchen tidy.

Have started to get the children to put their toys away before we go out or before bed and I am feeling so much calmer cause I walk into/down to a tidy living room every time I go out/every morning.

We still have hotspots and there are thing that need doing in the bedrooms but I am feeling so much beter about myself now that order is being restored to the house.

tortoisesdonotwearshoes · 07/09/2006 11:21

Just a quick hi to all and welcome to any newbies!

Took dd1 to prte-school this morning then popped to shops before coming home.

Just seen its a 5p listing day on Ebay so im going to spend loads of time today putting as much as i can on.

I have about 20 mins before i have to get ready to go back up to pre-school to pick DD1 up.DD2 playing nicely on the floor

SusiS · 07/09/2006 11:23

oh well, didn't do any tidying as ordered - did my (finally arrived) exercise dvd 'phewwwwww'
guess i need another cupper now

what day?? no clue .. well, i started yesterday - is this day 2? so what am i supposed to do today??

and i so agree: once the washing is folded and put away life looks already so much better

and what is swish and swipe??

and what 15 min??

gosh, so much to learn!!! but finally i've been taught how to keep the house clean

JessaJam · 07/09/2006 11:26

SusiS haven't you signed up to the FLY lady website an dgot your 31 babysteps email yet?

mummyhill · 07/09/2006 12:11

Swish and swipe is a daily swish of the toilet and swipe of all the surface in the bathroom.

15 mins is time to do each task for unless otherwise stated then leave it.

Baby steps are all on the flylady website link is at the bottom of this thread.
