Come on over to Pinterest Scout. I don't lose hours to it but I do find it useful for inspiration for all sorts of things.

Ds has remembered that there is a very nice, traditional sweet shop in a village by the sea close to us. He has also remembered that he has a birthday voucher for the toy shop there (his birthday was last November but I try to hang on to these things for rainy months days.

I suspect he is formulating a plan for which my taxi services and lunch making/buying skills will be required.

Grin

He is also going for a sleepover at my dparents tomorrow night in an attempt to redress the balance of dd getting a whole week away with her other Granny. He is sooooooo excited so a day out might help him get through the day.

My dmum had hoped that dh and I would get a night out while they have him but dh has to work late. Boooo!

Scout19075 · 09/07/2012 22:56

Sorry, I was up at the laundermat then made & ate dinner quickly (around 9-ish) then went off to do the weekly shop. I should really wash the dishes/pans, separate & freeze the meat I don't need right away and hang up the remaining slightly damp clothes. Instead I'm going to treat myself to 15 minutes on the computer then get in my PJs, hang up the clothes and go to bed.

I really should go sign up toe Pintrest, shouldn't I? It's inevitable. I don't know why I haven't done it yet.

I suspect it is inevitable and that you might find it very useful Scout for home ed ideas and craft ideas etc.

I am 5/8ths of the way through a commission that I really want to post but I am sooo tired and beginning to see double so I have to go to bed.

I hope everyone sleeps well.

Zzzzzzz...

Scout19075 · 09/07/2012 23:32

I've sent the request for an invite.

I do love a good craft/recipe/idea.

Scout19075 · 10/07/2012 07:46

If I didn't love Toddler so much I'd ship him back to the cabbage patch from which he came.

carrotsandcelery · 10/07/2012 09:58

Oh no scout. What happened?
If you dont get a reply to your invite request then i can see if i can
help. I am on my phone just now (in the bath but with lots of bubbles so no blushes).
Ds is not so keen on his shopping plan today. I dont know if i should insist or just leave him be.

liveinazoo · 10/07/2012 10:19

whats pinterest

carrotsandcelery · 10/07/2012 11:03

It's hard to explain zoo. It is like an online pinboard of things which are interesting/ you want to try/ you have done/ you like the look of etc.

You browse the ideas and "pin" the ones you like. By "pin" I mean they then appear on your page so you can refer back to them.

I have found a few craft ideas for the dcs through it, some more successful than others, some home decorating ideas and some beading ideas from it, amongst others.

bessie might explain it better but she is at work.

Go and have a look zoo. I think you would love the kids craft ideas.

carrotsandcelery · 10/07/2012 11:04

If you click on bessie's link upthread you will get a taster of what it is like.

liveinazoo · 10/07/2012 12:40

that will be my "treat" for tidying up carrotsSmile

i have reclaimed a substantial chunk of my front room this morning and am now going to force in amarmite sandwich for lunch before trying to put out some hotspots

dd2 has been treatd to a moshi monster sticker book and that has perked her up a bit although she still looks dreadful.shes had a yogurt and a crumpet so far today and sucked a couple of fruit polos, which by her veracious standards is nothingSad
she has agreed to try a sarny and i got a little pot of mixed fruit to tempt her for afterwards...i know food treats are not clever as they teach dcs that food is comforting but i feel so helpless to help her feel betterSad

liveinazoo · 10/07/2012 12:43

also i have upset the school organiser of the friends of the school.....
they are organising a tea and cake session for the helpers of the jubilee celebrations and ive seriously offended her by refusing the invitation-i tried to explain i do it because i want to and not for accolades but she was having none of it so i got a bit annoyed and told her the idea made me very uncomfortable and i would not be attending

she was very stilted with me for a few seconds then hung up

tell me im not being unreaonable?

Scout19075 · 10/07/2012 13:09

Not long home. I'm having a pizzadia. Or is it a pizzadilla. Either way, I've made some and might need to go make more.

Toddler's in bed, hopefully back to sleep (he fell asleep five minutes before pulling up in front of our house). He's been up and full of beans since 5:15 (after not falling asleep until about 9:30 last night).

Toddler Skating LOADS of fun and he skated for nearly 45 minutes (session is on offer for an hour). Then we played in soft play for nearly two hours.

zoo, I don't think you're being unreasonable. But could it be that she just wanted to gather everyone socially not as a thank you? Either that or to butter everyone up for the next school needs volunteers function?

Scout19075 · 10/07/2012 13:40

Still no invite from Pinterest. Hmm

OP posts:
carrotsandcelery · 10/07/2012 18:37

What is a pizzadia or pizzadilla? I have never heard of one.

zoo well done on the tidying up and the eating.

The tea and cakes does not sound like your thing at all Zoo and I can see that you don't do it for praise or recognition. I totally understand that it would be uncomfortable for you to go.

I imagine that, given the fact there are not many in your area who are keen to get involved, they are trying to build a community amongst those who do help out and to "grow" the idea of being involved and an active part of the school etc. The more they get you together and get you to bond then the more you might all do together and the more people might join in and get involved. It is a reasonable idea but it doesn't take into account everyone's social likes and dislikes.

YANBU to say you don't want to go and that you don't do it for recognition. If she chooses to be snippy then it is her problem tbh. Your choices are perfectly justified and I, like you, would want to be involved under my own terms.

Don't over think it zoo. Grin

carrotsandcelery · 10/07/2012 18:38

Scout that sounds like a busy day for you and TS. How are you feeling? I will look into how I can invite you to Pinterest. You may need to pm me your email address. I will let you know if you do. I can do the same for you too Zoo for treat time.

carrotsandcelery · 10/07/2012 18:38

Zoo what did doc say about dd? What did they think was going on?

carrotsandcelery · 10/07/2012 18:46

It seems I can invite people with their email address so if anyone wants to join and is happy to pm me their email address then I can invite them.

liveinazoo · 10/07/2012 19:27

doctor said was probably slap cheek and suspect it has gone viral.....
highly contagious,no school

this means i have had a child at home for last 4 weeks, this week makes 5Sad

little zoo had a minor red face the week before and there was a 10day gap between the girls vomiting..i suspect its a related

ds had gone to bed with a temperature and im praying he doesnt get up tomorrow with scarlet chops!

i am now going to trundle off and watch sometv and have a cinnamon and raisin bagel and some jelly babies that leapt into the basket when i popped to the co op and i couldnt wrestle the little blighters out again!Grin

carrotsandcelery · 10/07/2012 19:36

Poor wee soul zoo and poor you. You have had more than your fair share of it.

I am a bit lost without my children tonight. I have noone to put to bed to signal the start of "my time". (Anyone want a bedtime story, snuggle and a chat to get me into my evening?)

I have tried grooming the dogs as they both look decidedly scruffy. Pup was enjoying it but Twilight made her usual lunges at the brush. My friend who often walks Pup had a go at Twilight when we were away. She is much better but even he (a dog genius) admitted defeat grooming round her head. His words were, "nearly had my face off!" to be precise, so she might just have to live with that dreadlock under her ear Shock

Luckily she is a huge softy as long as you aren't poking at her ears!

zoo as long as you keep eating I will keep trying to stop. Deal? I have no appetite this week anyway so I am off to a good start.

bessie26 · 10/07/2012 19:54

Pinterest is like lots of pin boards you can put things/ideas you like. I have one called "eat" where I "pin" recipes I like the look of, another called "kids" where I stash ideas of (usually crafty) things I can do with the kids.
The cool thing is that you can "follow" other people & see what they are putting on their boards.

Must go pack bags for tomorrow. Back later.

Scout19075 · 10/07/2012 20:41

Shame I didn't see the offer before, carrots, or you could have done Toddler's bedtime for me. I lost count of the number of stories we read and the number of times I read some of them.

Poor zoo and co. I thought you could only get Slapped Cheek once (as in, once you had it you were immune to it)?

I think I might go to bed early, no matter what MrScout says.

OP posts:
carrotsandcelery · 10/07/2012 20:59

I can still recite some of the books the dcs liked when they were little. Dd loved The Gruffalo but ds didn't so it is probably about 8 years since I was reading it several times a day and I can still do it (I think...)

Scout19075 · 10/07/2012 21:23

Toddler can "read" all of his favorites as well. Very well, in fact, with the right words on the right pages. (I do think he can sight-read a few words, as evidenced by the fact that he read a couple of words on a sign he had never seen before and neither MrScout nor I had read to him.) One of his favorite books stays at my PiL and he recites it verbatim to himself/his bunnies/me whenever the mood strikes.

bessie26 · 10/07/2012 21:53

Hairy Maclary & friends are firm favourites here Grin. We have a strict limit of 2 books each at bedtime otherwise we would be there for HOURS!

Scout19075 · 10/07/2012 22:06

Ooooh, I've been invited to join Pinterest. Grin
